    Cacio e Pepe

This is the loudest restaurant we have eaten at in years. We were very much looking forward to meeting our nephew in the city and having a leisurely beautiful Italian dinner with family conversation and could not hear each other talk. Is this a nightclub or a restaurant? The waiter came over of course no one could hear him. He couldn't hear us. Couldn't really engage or hear the specials because the music was so incredibly loud. What is up with restaurants not realizing that people want to have a conversation during dinner? What a complete bummer. We scarfed our food down as fast as we possibly could to get the hell out of there.

I came here on a Friday afternoon for a late lunch early dinner. I walked into the restaurant but the host never checked me in until hours later while I was waiting for the check. I opted for the summer restaurant week menu. I started off with a glass of Gavi, which was refreshing and paired well with my orders of Truffle Croquettes, Fennel Salad, Branzino and Budino. Dinner was not served until after 5pm so I started off with their bar menu which included the fennel salad. The salad was refreshing and filling at the same time. The branzino was fileted and generous. I ate half and took the rest home with half of the truffle croquettes. The budino was a great end to my dining experience.

Overall 10 out of 10 would return to Ambar. We went for a restaurant week and I was a little disappointed with the steak fruits when they brought out such a tiny slice of it. I was like oh OK. Me and my friend literally started laughing. But we ordered a couple more and they were more regular sized. The salmon was a little bit dry, but definitely enjoyed the Bronzino. Also, the lamb medallions are very juicy almost melting in your mouth would definitely get those.

Food was amazing.I came for dinner and we had almost everything on the menu we started off with the burrata which came with prosciutto, insalata pienontese, carpaccio di zucchinie. Which were all light and refreshing. Perfect start for appetizers. Then we got the branzino, pollo al mattone, veal chop Milanese. All were cooked to perfection and the branzino was deboned. Make sure to get the lobster pasta it hits the service was on point servers are very attentive and knowledgeable. The ambiance it what you think of when going to the west village cute cozy and inviting. The perfect neighborhood Italian restaurant. I highly recommend and will be coming back. Our server defiantly left a good impression we will be back for him ask for Francesko and Daniele

LOUD- If you're expecting a dinner where you can have a conversation where you can hear the other person, think again. Food- tricolor salad was very bland. I make better salad dressing at home. We had to ask the waiter to bring more salad dressing, and even with the dressing it still tasted bland. For $22, the salad was not worth it. The grilled octopus and chicken were good but nothing I would cry home about. The aperol spritz was great. Our waiter always came in a timely fashion, but overall I won't be returning. $97(including 15% tip) for 2 aperol spritz, half of the salad I shared, and the grilled octopus. No thank you, not worth it. If I were to return, it would be at the bar to get a drink. Other than that, a hard no from me.

Ambra is outstandingly hospitable and delectable! Manager Anthony and his entire staff are incredible. Attention to detail and timing off the of the food was on point. We were there for Father's Day celebration and every bite was delicious. We started with a prosciutto platter (perfectly aged), insalata di mare (so fresh), tartufata pizza (truffle not over powering and the crust was nice and crispy) and shared a spaghetti cacio pepe (perfect with the homemade pasta). What a incredible way to start the meal. Entrees: Parppadelle al ragu -- we love fresh homemade pasta. My son devoured this, we were just lucky enough to grab a taste before it was all gone. Linguine vongole - linguine was perfectly al dente. The flavors were so tasty. Taglatelle al pesto - pesto was so delicious. My daughter's favorite is pesto, but icing on this dish was the crispy prosciutto. Bistecce - my husband loved his steak. Period. We barely managed to get to dessert but we had to try the Olive Oil cake and their zabaione foam with strawberry... WOW!!! 2 weeks later we came back with friends for cocktails and app. Thank you for a wonderful meal!!!

Ambra deserves every single one of these 10 stars! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, elegant, and inviting. Giovanni went above and beyond--he guided us through the special, that was amazing and delicious. his recommendation was absolutely incredible. The flavors were out of this world, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. The drinks were fantastic, and I especially loved the mocktail--refreshing, creative, and just as special as my husbands crafted cocktail. It really showed how much thought and care the team puts into every detail. Between the outstanding food, flawless service, and Giovannis genuine hospitality, this was easily one of the best dining experiences I've ever had in NYC. I cannot wait to come back and bring friends to experience Ambra for themselves. A true gem!

Such a great meal! Came here on a Thursday night at 8pm and it was packed. There's outdoor dining as well but we sat inside and it was pretty noisy but we were still able to chat. Their wine bottle prices are very reasonable and we had the Domenico which was delicious. We started with the homemade focaccia with three dips which was more like a pita but was absolutely delicious with each dip and the vegan kale salad which was refreshing and crunchy. For our mains we split the margherita pizza and pappardelle which were both incredible and the perfect portion size. We ended with the chocolate mousse which was decadent and had a lovely crunch. Definitely recommend for a date night or small group of friends!

WoW... very nice surprise, I just thought it was gonna be a regular dinner on a Tuesday night, and it turned out to be a culinary experience. Little did I know this is managed by renown chef. Service though amicable it is Sloooow, it took the a good 60 minutes to bring our food but then... it was worth it.

I was invited back to Ambra and we went for dinner. Their dinner menu is great- spaghetti pomodoro was particularly delicious as was the burrata salad. The best burrata salad I've had probably- tomatoes were sweet (how?) and the hummus focaccia bread platter was great too. Their menu is high quality and the prices reflect that. Their ginger beer cocktail is really special as well. Service was good, the hostess was kind. It's a really cute restaurant, Saturday night you can definitely get a table but it's crowded enough to feel like you're "out". Depends on if you like that sort of thing! Still recommended as a good spot to stop for drinks as well.

Very good Italian cuisine in the west village. Walked by here a few times and they always seemed busy so I gave it a try. Had the burrata for the appetizer and it was so good. The cheese really does melt in your mouth. It went very well with the arugula salad. The pasta dishes were good as well. I liked my pasta dish with lobster. All of the food came out pretty quickly. It is very dimly lit inside if you like that ambiance.

Particularly the penne funghi is to die for. Tried the linguine vongole clam pasta for the first time and was pretty good as well! Just wish there was more sauce and the clams were the tiniest size I've seen which was disappointing and to make matters worse, a good 1/3 of them were empty. Besides that, the meal was delightful and still great value as it was delicious with huge portions! Love! However, service at this particular branch is nowhere near as good as other branches. I understand it's busy and it's always incredibly crowded with people and cramped seating and loud music/voices but this was like no other. When I arrived party of 2, they had nearly 5 tables empty and yet we couldn't sit at any of them because the had to wait for reservations to see if they arrived and we had to wait 15 min but they said they'd let us know. We were forced to sit at the bar which the giant metal can of alcohol bottles took up 1/2 my seating/dining area and no one bothered to move it or ask if that was okay because obviously it wasn't but the didn't care. We waited awhile for the food to come and during that time we asked if there really wasn't any table availability since tables clearly open and the denied again even though reservations never came. Literally 3 tables remains consistently empty throughout our entire dining experience confined to the cramped bar area. They even closed the door, separating the outdoor diners which was weird and it became insufferably hot inside, even on a cold windy day. Bathroom situation here is also terrible as it is downstairs with steep narrow stairs and me and other customers almost bumped into each other and staff carrying multitude of food dishes and dirty dishes up and down the stairs. Never have I ever had such an undelightful experience going to bathroom at a restaurant. Additionally, sink water pressure either had no water coming out or a giant spray of water making it impossible to wash hands without getting a whole shower. This location really needs work. Only reason why I'm not giving it five stars is because I love Fumo as a whole. Just skip this location.

Overall, we highly recommend L'Artusi for a special night out!

L'Artusi has been on my radar for a while, ever since I heard it was a hot spot and saw reviews of…read moreit being one of the best Italian restaurants in NYC. Being Italian American, I'm hypercritical of spots like these - but nevertheless the positive reviews were overwhelming so I wanted to check it out for myself. One of my friends and I were looking to catch up, so I booked a table and off we went. While it can be tricky to get a reservation during prime dinner time, it's relatively easy to get a lunch reservation - or an early/late dinner. I managed to get a reservation for dinner at 9:15pm which was the earliest I could find. The restaurant is pretty unassuming on the outside - it looks like a converted brownstone and once inside we were greeted by a large space with a sceney vibe. The space is split between two levels with a large bar up front and a semi-open kitchen in the back. The decor was modern - with lots of greys and neutral tones which was a little unexpected. The main star of the menu is pasta, but they also have a few non-pasta mains as well as some crudo selections, apps, and sides. We decided to get a few apps, two pastas, and one side. To start, we went with the octopus, roasted mushrooms, burrata crostone, and focaccia. These were all really good, but my favorite was the mushrooms. I'm usually not a fan of mushrooms but these were prepared with red pepper and fried egg and were delicious; it cut through the earthiness and changed the texture to something I really enjoyed. The focaccia was also a standout - it's house made and was paired with a peppery oil that complemented the bread well. For mains we split two pastas - the caccio e pepe and the rigatoni. Both of these were very good, though I felt the rigatoni was the stronger dish. It was prepared with sausage ragu, soppressata, broccoli rabe pesto, and pecorino. The flavors worked really well together and the pasta was cooked al dente. The caccio e pepe was perfectly fine, I just feel it's been overplayed and didn't feel there was anything that stood out amongst the others I've tried. We also got a broccoli rabe as a side which was great. We couldn't leave without dessert and decided to get their olive oil cake and quattro formaggio cheesecake. The restaurant is known for the former - it was perfectly fine but I've had olive oil cakes elsewhere of the same or better quality. The cheesecake was the stronger dessert IMO - the combination of cheeses gave it an interesting, almost savory flavor. The brûlée top and mascerated strawberries were great texture and flavor complements. Service was great - the place was packed but service was consistently on point and everyone was friendly. Overall, I had a good experience at L'Artusi. While everything was very good, I'm struggling to find the exact reason why this place became such a hot spot compared to other Italian spots in the city. Nevertheless, you'll have a good meal here and I would definitely return if given the opportunity.

The first thing I noticed was there were 7 people in my party and 4 arrived early and did not have to wait for my arrival to be seated. Second the waiter who took our order was polite and on point with specials and knowledge of the menu. He (just never caught his name) suggested the Rigatoni which chicken and sausage.
