I had a great time here. The omakase was great, and the presentation was really beautiful. The frozen cup the beer came in was awesome. I've never seen that before. The staff and service were amazing, and I'm so happy we were able to get a reservation here.

What an amazing Omakase restaurant! They are fairly new but are definitely on top of their game with great food and service! They are located on the ground floor inbetween Barnes and Noble and Macy's. We were seated by Katie, our hostess, who is super friendly and whom we had a conversation with the whole time we were there. The pictures of the food is not enough to express how good it was. The fish was fresh, the chefs personal creations were yummy, and both the chef abd hostess were great to talk to! You really feel like you are part of a family. The flavors were delicious. The restaurant is clean. And the prices are good compared to many other locations. You won't be disappointed if you go. They were also super sweet and gave me a scoop of their homemade yuzu ice cream for my birthday! Definitely a place to check out if you're looking for an omakase place.

An experience at Amaterasu Sushi, one of the newer omakase spots located in Ala Moana Center right next to Barnes & Noble. The ambience is very quiet and intimate with only a limited number of seats available at the sushi counter, though I opted to sit at a table instead. The setting felt calm and relaxed, which made the dining experience really enjoyable. The fish was as fresh as it gets and each piece was neatly and beautifully presented. You can tell care went into both the quality of the ingredients and the presentation of the omakase and the dishes were so cute and unique. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience and definitely a spot I'd come back to when craving a solid omakase in town.

Mehikari (deep sea greeneye fish) with Ginkgo nuts

Exceptional Omakese & Unmatched Hospitality Visited just 2 weeks ago for lunch and returned again for lunch. Will continue to repeat for sure! My wife and I came in for a lunch date, and Amaterasu blew us away once again. I had just dined here two weeks ago with a friend and couldn't wait to bring my wife back as it had been far too long since our last sushi date! The ambience is stunning. Every detail from the modern, chic glassware to the artisanal dishes feels deeply intentional, clean, and elegant. What truly sets Amaterasu apart, though, is the world-class service. Katrina, Koji, and our sushi chef, Noah (Hide-San was on a business trip) provided a seamless experience. Their extreme attention to detail is remarkable; it's almost like they read your mind. You never have to ask for a thing whether it's a tea or water refill or another look at the menu, they're already one step ahead. As for the food, every single course was executed flawlessly: Mehikari & Ginkgo Nuts: We started with the deep-fried mehikari, which was crisp perfection. The fish was meaty, rich with just the right amount of natural oils, perfectly salted, and complemented beautifully by the ginkgo nuts. A fantastic opening act. The Sushi: The shari (sushi rice) had wonderful texture and temperature. The star of the day was the tuna from Nagasaki Prefecture. It was absolutely phenomenal. Noah's incredible knife skills really highlighted the tenderness and nuanced flavor of every piece. The Uni: Always amazingly consistent. From Hokkaido and they're creamy, sweet, and fresh. The Essentials: From the silky chawanmushi to the comforting miso soup at the finish, there wasn't a single weak link in the meal. Amaterasu delivers high-level craftsmanship paired with warm, attentive hospitality. We're already planning to make this a monthly tradition! Thank you Amaterasu team!

Always walked passed Amaterasu when we go Ala Moana and today was the day we were finally able to go! The inside is a nice lux interior, but makes you feel cozy at the same time. My boyfriend and I opted for the standard omakase (dinner) and it was $150 for 15 courses! Honestly, 100% worth it. Everything tasted so refined and delicious. My favorites were any of the smoked/torched sushi. It gave the sushi another layer of taste and texture. I also wanted to mention that out of all omakase places I've been to, over here has the best minced chutoro handroll. I almost wanted to eat another one, but my stomach would have exploded LOL. Overall, I would totally come back. The owner and staff are super sweet. Also reservations are easy to make on opentable!!

Came here for a birthday dinner and each bite was phenomenal! Especially liked the engawa with shiso and katsuo nigiri. We were, however, perplexed by the automatic 20% service charge because the receipt says auto-applied to parties of 6 but we were only a party of two. Service was good though so we didn't ask about it. Would come again for a special occasion.

Came here for the lunch omakase, which included an appetizer, chawanmushi, 10 pieces of nigiri, and miso soup. Everything tasted fresh. Standouts bites for me were the Hokkaido uni, scallop, king salmon, and the chef's signature Kaua'i shrimp topped with uni garlic butter. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5: a few of the nigiri pieces had too much wasabi, which overpowered the fish, and the appetizer felt a bit forgettable. Service was friendly but there were some awkward moments when our server tried to clear plates before we were finished. Still, a great option if you're looking for edomae-style sushi.

Amazing sushi by sushi chef Hide! Everything from beginning to end was perfection. Hard to pick a favorite one since they were all so good. We came here to celebrate my mom's birthday and they made the experience so special! We did the omakase which includes 15 courses (10 nigiri). It's a $150 per person which is not bad. The sushi just melts in your mouth. I really enjoyed the salmon, chutoro, Kaua'i shrimp nigiri topped with uni garlic butter and the chawanmushi. I was content with the amount of food we got but definitely could have eaten a few more lol. The atmosphere is elegant and intimate but you can also dress casual if you want. What's great is that it's located in Ala Moana (former Arby's) so you don't have to worry about parking. One of the best sushi I've had in a long time!

We had a totally mind-blowing Omakase meal that was right up there with the big boys in Tokyo. The Sake dispenser was like something out of a sci-fi movie - totally mesmerizing. Every piece was crafted with ninja-like precision.

My boyfriend surprised me with this lovely Omakase spot. We had a reservation for 5pm and came about 10 minutes earlier. The spot was near the Barnes and Nobles in parking garage area of the mall. We were sat at the sushi bar and was offered some delicious tea. We had the 15 course omakase meal and it was a delightful experience! The sushi chef and the server were very nice and we were explained what we were eating throughout the entire meal. Keep in mind, they do change courses while keeping some others. Everything tasted super fresh! The blue fin tuna and the uni was personally my favorite. It melted in my mouth. My boyfriend loved the egg! It was full of so much flavor. A great experience to try was the uni garlic butter shrimp! I've never heard of such a thing but it was really good! Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for an omakase spot around the area!

Amazing! I took a risk by coming to this restaurant to try the Omakase with my friends. My best friend was visiting from Atlanta and wanted to try Omakase because she had never gone to one. I've been to a couple on the island, but this has moved up to my top 3! It's located at Ala Moana, right next to Barnes and Nobles so parking is easy. We had the first dinner service at 5PM (FYI they do book up fast so make sure you keep an eye out on open table). The service was absolutely impeccable. It all started before we even got through the door. We were waiting outside for the last person in our party to show up when the hostess came out and asked if we had reservations. We said yes and she told us to wait inside while we wait for the rest of our party. The restaurant is small and intimate. We were sat at the counter where it can host seven guests. There is a table behind the counter that can host a party of about eight people. It was comfortable and not too tight. The hostess helps the chef serve so she came to take our drinks. We got hot tea and suntory beer. We had the 15 course omakase for $150 and it was prepared right in front of us. It was great watching him prepare all the food. It was so fresh and I'm so glad you explained each one. The selections differ based on what's available. The winners were the Otoro - it melted like butter in your mouth. Then the Uni Gunkan and Kauai Shrimp with Uni Garlic Butter. Oh my good the Uni was perfectly salty and sweet and melted in your mouth. And the Uni Garlic Butter that is torched onto the Kauai shrimp was absolute heaven. I would go back specifically to get that. I say this because I love Uni and I was just blown away with how the sweet Uni stood out and wasn't over powered by the Garlic or salt from the shrimp or butter. The hostess was amazing with making sure our drinks were never empty and always checked in on us. At the end, the hostess will ask if you want to order anything that was served during the omakase so you can enjoy it one last time. And of course we did! The biggest downside was the temperature. It was set at 80 degrees so it was a bit warm. Overall, I really enjoyed it and would go back again. I would love to try the 13 course Lunch menu for $98. The difference is that you may not get speciality seafood, but I still feel it'd be a great experience.

This is my favorite Omakase restaurant in Honolulu. I know the lower level of the Ala Moana doesn't sound appealing but trust me it is nice inside and has a beautiful Japanese style sushi bar. It's always fun sitting down for an omakase experience just because you have no idea what will be served. I enjoyed everything I had and I cannot wait to go back. Price wasn't bad either for the quality. I think including tip I paid around $120. Made a friend next to me at the bar so I will be meeting him there again soon.

There were kids when we were there.

Is it BYOB?

Not anymore. The restaurant has started their curated alcohol beverage menu in February. You may still bring your own bottle but there will be a corkage fee.

How many courses in the omakase lunch?

Open for lunch?

Yes. You can check availability on opentable. :)

Where can I park?

The building its self has a very few and limited visitor parking stalls on the ground floor. Tip: if all the appropriate spots are taken, park in another stall and ask inside what you should do while telling them where you are parked!

I want to make a res and ask about the omakase sushi?

You can book via Opentable!

It just so happens it fell during the weekend of the Maguro Fair. Upon ordering our toro sushi, I noticed from the first bite that the fish was extremely stringy and rubbery tasting... My friend also wanted to celebrate my Birthday here but there was no acknowledgment at all, when she had a whole group of people singing for her when we celebrated her here previously. I have already told everyone around me about my terrible experience and will not want to celebrate any occasion here in the future. I didn't even want to tip but felt bad and left it as a severance pay that I will never be dining here again... Hate to say that this also cancels my experience at their actual premium omakase location in Kapahulu. There are many other sushi places to go to and I will not be returning.

The staff was friendly, and the prices were about what you'd expect for higher-end sushi in Hawaii. The atmosphere was a little disappointing, though. I was expecting a more relaxed, intimate setting, but the restaurant felt a bit cramped and overly bright. It had more of a casual, busy sushi restaurant vibe than what I had envisioned. We also had a frustrating experience with valet parking. When we paid our bill, our server took our valet ticket to get it validated but never brought it back. When we asked about it, the initial reaction was almost as if we had misplaced it ourselves. They eventually found it, but the whole situation could've been handled better. And honestly, I'm still not sure what the point of validation was when we had to pay $10 anyway. Overall, the sushi was definitely the highlight, and I enjoyed the meal. I just wish the atmosphere and service details were a little more polished to match the quality of the food.

Uncompromising Freshness in an Unassuming Setting: Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar…read moreDiscreetly tucked away in Honolulu's industrial airport neighborhood, Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar is the ultimate "if you know, you know" culinary haven. What it lacks in flashy fanfare, it more than compensates for with world-class seafood sourced directly from top-tier fisheries across the globe. Paired with an inviting BYOB policy, Mitch's delivers an intimate, product-focused dining experience that rivals the finest omakase counters in Hawaii. Sashimi & Cold Starters Otoro & Amaebi (Sweet Shrimp) The sashimi presentation is a stunner. Thick, opulently marbled slabs of Otoro (Fatty Tuna) served over crushed ice offer an irresistible melt-in-your-mouth richness. Alongside, the sweet, translucent Amaebi delivers a delicate, natural sweetness and pristine snapping texture. Fresh Live Abalone Sashimi Arranged beautifully back inside its iridescent shell, the thinly sliced live abalone provides an incredible textural contrast--crisp, firm, and mineral-rich with a clean taste of the sea. Hot Specialties & Grilled Small Plates Grilled Scallops in Shell (Hotate Kaiyaki) Plump, jumbo Japanese scallops grilled right in their massive shell. Swimming in a warm, savory-dill butter bath with deeply caramelized juices, every spoonful is pure comfort and ocean umami. Grilled Ika Geso (Squid Legs) Tender, lightly charred squid tentacles served with a kick of fresh grated ginger--a classic Japanese izakaya-style bite that pairs seamlessly with any chilled sake or craft beer you bring along. Seared Aburi Nigiri Delicately torched nigiri crowned with finely chopped scallions and citrusy momiji oroshi. The gentle heat renders the fish's natural oils, infusing each bite with a subtle smokiness and velvety finish. Nigiri, Gunkan & Rolls Uni (Sea Urchin) Gunkan Bright, golden mounds of Uni overflowing from crisp nori collars. Extremely fresh, sweet, and ocean-rich without a trace of astringency. Shima Aji & Saba Nigiri Delicate cuts of silver-skinned fish garnished with freshly grated ginger and scallions. The vinegar cure on the mackerel (Saba) is balanced perfectly against the fatty richness of the fish. Classic Specialty Rolls Generously packed crab rolls wrapped in seasoned sushi rice and toasted sesame seeds. Clean, satisfying, and executed with exact precision. Final Verdict Mitch's Fish Market & Sushi Bar remains one of Oahu's absolute finest destinations for serious seafood purists. Between the unrivaled quality of the raw offerings, the comforting depth of their grilled dishes, and the relaxed BYOB atmosphere, every visit feels like discovering a secret masterpiece. Lastly, I understand that the tempura brownie is popular but after tasting the "tempura" on the tofu I'm sure the brownie is just the star that shines through. The "tempura" on the tofu was gummy and not the authentic Japanese tempura we are used to (my husband, who is part Japanese, said to me "What is this?! Cornstarch?"). This is probably a great restaurant for drinks and hanging out with some adult friends but the rolls and appetizers were just not to our tastes. We were also sat outside when the restaurant was near empty inside and out (we went around 4PM) and it was a hot day (though the AC wasn't particularly cool enough for my preference inside either).

There were standouts and overall we loved the meal. A local id gets the 10% service fee removed which was nice. I would recommend the $150 lunch omakase - I don't think the $50 abalone dish was worth the upgrade.

Every piece of sushi was beautifully presented not overwhelming. You can really tell the chefs put a lot of thought into the balance of flavors and textures. One of my favorite bites was a sashimi piece topped with something that looked like finely grated cheese (not sure what it actually was), but it melted perfectly with the fish and added a really unique savory flavor. The chefs and staff also had a good sense of humor. At one point they served kinki fish and jokingly explained that the English translation sometimes gets called "idiot fish," which got everyone laughing at the counter. The omakase is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality, presentation, and overall experience made it very satisfying. If you're looking for a refined sushi experience with great service and beautifully crafted bites, this place is worth the splurge.
