Man, what an unexpected surprise. It's been a couple of years since I have been here and I was blown away! I recall going here when it was different names going back to the lobster pot. One of the best clam sauce I ever had was when Steve Mazzella was the chef. I took out my daughter and her friends from Charleston SC. They were all food and beverage peeps and two of them managed an Asian BBQ fusion Bon Appetite mentioned eatery in Charleston. They too were blown away by the service to the quality and presentation of the food. Salads are fresh and plentiful. I had a favorite of mine Chicken Scarpa, a dish I often try and usually disappointed because I can make it better.I now bow down to the chef who made this dish. I would have preferred chicken with the bone and my dish showed no signs of Italian sausage but after the first bite, I didn't have it in me to send it back. It had the right tang of lemon and cherry peppers that the dish is known for. The artichokes were delicious, so good I wanted to pick up the plate and lick it. I also tasted the fried calamari which again came out hot was not chewy and fried to perfection. My wife ordered the carbonara, a dish we often make and is difficult to serve at the optimum temperature. This had a smoked duck pancetta far from a pig's cheek but the combo worked and was delicious. The portion was generous and the leftovers called to me at 2 am to be devoured. The wine prices were in line with other restaurants and the prices of meals too reflect the new world as we know it after the latest inflation tax. That being said in my opinion, Amano offers great value while dining on the North Fork. Oh yeah I'll be back

My husband and I went to AMano's with another couple because I wanted to check out another one of Tom Schaudel's restaurants. This restaurant is so quaint, and you feel at home as soon as you walk in. This was our first time here, and we went with another couple. Since I have been wanting to try this place, after reading Tom's book, I was excited to have us all try it. The entrees were excellent, and I had the spaghetti squash with shrimp and spinach, which was cooked perfectly. I can't get the consistency right when I try to make it at home, so I was happy to taste what it should taste like! We all had appetizers, which were really good, except unfortunately my friends octopus was not cooked the way it was described on the menu. I personally do not know how people eat that anyway...the look of it freaks me out :-) Anyway, they did fix this, and we went on to enjoy an excellent meal. The desserts were also awesome, and so were the after dinner drinks. I also got to discover an excellent cognac there that night. They were out of my usual Courvoisier, so they gave me Martell, which was the best cognac I ever had! Thanks for the substitution Adam...that was really awesome of you :-) One more thing about this restaurant. We went on a Saturday night and it was packed. We did have reservations so that wasn't a problem, but it was just too loud to talk. I would like to go another time when it is a little less crowded so I can really enjoy the atmosphere. We will be back to do just that!

Make reservations. We went on a Tuesday about 530 and there were only a few tables open. There is outside seating also off the main dining room and a bar area with a few high tops. HH 4-7pm. Parking lot is behind the restaurant. Good portion sizes, hot and delicious. The pork chop was a little on the dry side. The ravioli could have been cooked another minute as the edges were too hard. My short rib was excellent, not salty dry or fatty. The sea bass was light. I checked in on Yelp and you get a small free pizza! We wouldn't have ordered it and were so glad we had it. It was delicious. It flops, but the dough is excellent as is the sauce and cheese and the fresh basil makes it. Service was pleasant and efficient. I'd pass on the cannoli. All the desserts are homemade so that's great but get something else. The shell is fried and the cream is very light not sweet but when you're looking for a traditional cannoli and you get this, you may not be happy.

While in the area for the weekend (Riverhead) I made my husband come meet me so we could come here for our anniversary. I've been wanting to come here forever but yeah driving over an hour for dinner just isn't something we can do :P though my husband got to do that technically lol. Anyway dinner was amazing and what a cute place. We were both very happy with our food and was perfect for our anniversary.

Huge disappointment. Mostly my fault. I keep letting Shaudel suck me in like Lucy with that football. Food was OK. For a pizza joint. Not for a place that gets the hype this place does. The bread is great. Eat a lot of it. I had octopus (chewy) and Sunday Sauce. I wish they called it "gravy" because my family doesn't eat "gravy" and I would have stayed away on principle My wife is a vegetarian. She had the beet salad, which is described on the menu as containing Farro. There appeared to be none in the bowl so we flagged down a server to assist in the Farro hunt. "I think I see one!" is not the answer we were hoping for. Hungry and hopeful, we ordered a pizza "to go". It's going....in the garage. (See pic below. We each took a slice. The Ice Cream Man, he gets the rest..) The upside is the confirmation we got that Grana is the only legit upscale Italian place in the area. You won't get me again T.S.

Went to aMano for the first time in October. If you check-in with Yelp you get a free pizza that is a great portion. For an appetizer we also had the fried calamari which was so tender and delicious! Ended up sharing the carbonara pasta which was out of this world! Whenever I'm out East I will always return!

I had the steak so I had to bump them up a star. The place also has a great vibe so you can just stop in for an app & a glass of wine, either way you're good.

Did I think I was getting just another American-German influenced restaurant with only brats and potato pancakes? Did I expect polka? The experience was actually slow and refined, without the white tablecloths. Alpina has German, Swiss, and slightly Northern Italian influenced cuisine, along with a selection of alcohols I was completely unfamiliar with... which made the experience feel full of new things. The most memorable food was actually one of the simplest. The chef prepared incredibly creamy, caramelized onions with a slight sauerkraut tang that was amazeballs. I told our waiter that I'd write him a love letter over it, and here I am! The pappardelle had shredded duck, cheese, and big, fun, chewy noodles that were satisfying to slurp. It just needed a dash of pepper to elevate it. The meat and cheese board included a few things I'd never tried before, and it was so good I was searching for a meat shop in Manhattan so we could buy them again. Portion sizes aren't huge for the price, but it was worth it to us. Don't be afraid of the dark entrance, the ligonberry on the menu, and ask the bartender about the connection between the giant copper gnome and penguin shaker gone rouge.

We read a recent review where someone proclaimed the owner to be nasty & unfriendly (sure, I am paraphrasing). Those types of reviews are generally emotionally charged and written by plebs I find. More on that toward the end. Pulling up to a rather unassuming east end Long Island small shopping plaza drenched in rain; opening the door, you are taken back to a semi rustic and dim interior. Perfectly elegant in its bucolic charm- with nice lounge music playing. It is a sit where one likes atmosphere. This is meant with the utmost of respect and candour. We were greeted kindly by the proprietoress (Jacqueline), and handed pleasantly robust binders with the wine list and food. Deciding to treat this in the more European café type, we had glasses and charcuterie. I, the Sagrantino, and her the Kerner. Jacqueline was vocally pleased with our interesting choices. The night drew on, more wine ensued, more food, multiple conversations, and I completed reading through each page and wine choice...finding much to be recognised and appreciated (Kirwan, Moric, Georg Breuer to name but a few) At the end of the night, I asked Jacqueline to pick an appropriate nightcap. She not only delivered, but gave us a wonderful story including the provenance and her experiences - ultimately, the word genius came up more than once. To wit, there was nothing here but an exceptional experience with a like-minded wine enthusiast. I felt welcomed and in the frith of old kin. Nasty, belligerent, dullard atmosphere- indeed not.
