This is by far my husband's and my favorite restaurant in Salem. (Seriously, we probably come here twice a month.) When we are on keto, it's our go to date night place. Even Sweetsmiths, the connected bakery, has a keto dessert option. On keto, we tend to go for the grilled brussels sprouts appetizer & keto shrimp and bacon "risotto" (made with Miracle Rice- really rich and flavorful!) They have also had a keto stroganoff in the past, and of course there's steak with keto side options and delicious salads. They also have a couple of Paleo menu options like Korean beef with kimchi. When we are not on keto, there are so many good things about this place, I just can't even describe at all. Zucchini fries and street corn dip are some of my faves. This is the restaurant that made me first start to like hummus. (Theirs is the best, and it's complimentary.) My favorite drink to order there is the buffalo trace sour, shaken with egg whites. Nice atmosphere with a nod to the historic past of downtown Salem. Straightforward menu with a good amount of happy hour options. Regular menu is priced at the higher end for Salem, and for our group, the food didn't hold up. Mac and cheese was the table favorite, but came out like molten lava, and took a good long time to cool to an edible temperature. Service was pretty good, but be prepared to wait for food. We ordered bread as an afterthought when our food came out, and when we were getting ready to leave and pay the check, it showed up. For a better experience in this price range, try Bentley's or Rudy's. read more

Amadeus is a must in downtown Salem. I love that the mother and daughter owners put their heart and soul into this place. I'd highly recommend the dolmas, medi plate, and stuffed sweet potato. We've ordered the same dishes on multiple occasions because they were so good. The wine list is also a great value compared to other restaurants mark-ups. Enjoy! read more

it's just SO outstanding. I've eaten there three times, and each times it's been wonderful. Food is great, service is attentive, and the cocktails are really delicious. If you go, consider skipping dessert inside Amadeus and instead walk through to the Sweetsmith bakery in back -- I think they own both as it's the same building. Fantastic pastries and cakes, I had something called the "Irish Car Bomb" which was like a trifle with chocolate. I can still taste it, it was so good. read more

This is defiantly the new "Best" restaurant in Salem; the atmosphere is very open and comfortable, completely remodeled and updated from the grunge coffee house that haunted this location for the past several years. There is now a very cozy full bar just to the left as you enter with a creative cocktail selection. The original wood floors have been brought back to life and there are hints of old Salem history all around for the curious or observant. They have only been open for about a month but we could not wait to see the new location. We had the special last night Brazed Short Ribs with White Cheddar Spoon Bread and Balsamic Onion Demi-Glace; in a word...... Outstanding!! They don't display the amazing desserts that they are so well known for from their last location; but make sure that you have something. We had the Irish Car Bomb cake; it was a very moist chocolate cake with Guinness and Jamison that just somehow works really well together. We will be back very soon! read more

While I appreciate what Amadeus Cafe is trying to accomplish with their motto of "fork to mouth," they fail on multiple fronts. We walked in for an early dinner and after we were seated it took 25 minutes for someone to take our order. We ordered the meddi plate for an appetizer. The food was tasty and simple, but a bit pricey for the food you get. I ordered the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and veggies. My partner ordered a cocktail and the saucy chicken (chicken Madeira). Both dishes were well presented but they were insanely salty and any additional flavor was masked by the salt. Altogether the meal was $55 and not worth it. Service was slow throughout and the food was overpriced and overseasoned. Don't bother and dine somewhere else. read more

Its just not the same as it was out south. The Ciopinno was over horribly over cooked, wasnt fresh and tasted low grade. The dry aged steak was just a normal steak that was actually very chewy. read more

It's hard to rate this place because the food and the atmosphere is excellent! I ordered the Dolmades and they were delicious. They seemed short staffed which made the server impersonal and the food took well over 25 minutes for a burger and Mac and Cheese. Maybe I just came on the wrong day. I went last night with friends and thought it was excellent! We went for happy hour (the second happy hour starts at 8pm!) and really enjoyed it. Our server was awesome -I think he was also the bartender. The Hot Buttered Rum was fantastic! I ordered the half order of brisket with polenta (didn't care for the balsamic glaze on it - order it on the side), the chicken skewers (awesome) and the hushpuppies (dry and sweet - not spicy - but good). My friends also ordered the pork wings (???), some beef dish that was amazing, and Mac n cheese - I thought it tastes fabulous, he thought it was grainy (may have been the cheese, like real Parmesan). Desserts were good too. Their menu is extensive and they have vegetarian and Paleo options (what! A Salem restaurant that has a Paleo menu section?!) we will definitely be going back!! read more

Great place for a nice dinner. Showed up one evening with some friends who had just gotten married 20 minutes earlier (pseudo elopement). The service is absolutely horrible, me and my family which was a party of 8. Spent 3 hours here on Christmas Eve. During the tree hours we got asked two times for refills, which we drank fast. She took our glasses and would take 20-30 minutes to refil. Besides the drinks when we ordered our food it took a good two hours for it to arrive at our table. I ordered a surf n turf rare. When it showed up she said "rare" I raised my hand and when I dug into the steak it was medium well, not what I asked. The prawns that came with the dish we barley warm almost cold. Only thing that's keeping them open is the cake shop behind the restaurant. Overall the service was terrible and would not go there again. If you do go here to eat, hope you have a couple of hours free. read more

Great food, happy hour, and wine selection. Dependably poor service. You can pretty much bet that you will not get your drinks and appetizers in a timely or even comprehensible fashion. Last time we went, the server said "I'll bring you water, if I can." (...?!) He never did come back. My advice is to order drinks as soon as you are seated. It is your best, sometimes only, chance of getting your drink before your meal, especially if you sit outside (where you should prepare to be forgotten each step of the way). We tried to have dinner tonight. We didn't make a reservation and we're totally fine with the 45 min wait. There were two seats at the bar- the hostess asked people to scoot down so we could sit together. The people said NO! How rude. Six p.m. on a busy Friday night. We had reservations, so we were seated promptly. The service was impeccable. We ordered the Medi - plate, it was perfect for the three of us, plus, the server brought extra hummus. All of us enjoyed our entrees, they arrived hot, and prepared well. There was very little talking going on while we ate, a sure sign of appreciation. I ordered the vegan salmon, although I'm not at all vegan. If you appreciate salmon, this is your dish. We brought dessert home, they, too, were excellent. The servers, all of them, were relaxed, attentive, and brought our food out in a timely manner. This is a new favorite in Salem for us. read more

Uh the food was okay but the service was super weird. The waitress gave us dirty looks when she wiped the table and spoke to us in a weird condescending way. Amadeus has gone downhill. The wait staff is excellent but the food? I had the Vegan Torta which is a potato cake with vegetables and hummus. My dish arrived absolutely swimming in grease and salt. The potato "cake" was a fried and burnt to a crisp in a couple spots hashbrown. The veggies, which consisted mostly of red peppers and onions, a couple mushrooms and a couple zucchini, were also swimming in grease. It was like greasy fajita vegetables atop a hashbrown with some hummus and avocado. Yuck! I stirred it up and it was a bit better. However, all that grease and salt was disgusting. I assumed a potato cake was going to be a mashed potato cake with lightly sauteed veggies. Nope, it was like eating at a greasy spoon diner. I wanted to love them forever but just can't. read more

Well, our string of wonderful Oregon foodie experiences came to a screeching halt in Salem tonight. I deviated from my research and instincts and took the rec of a winery girl today. To be fair, I have only had one experience and chef has got to have something going on based on previous reviews and creativity of the menu. I hope tonight was an anamoly. When I walked in to the overly bright ambience my wife I and both looked at each other and said "it smells like a barn". Btw The waitress was nice and attentive. The review is getting two stars only because the starter was so good and very on point...smoked brisket over polenta. I'm going to start making this dish myself I enjoyed it so much. The entrees were simply inedible, and we were starving. In short, they were leftovers that had been sitting in a warmer too long. The fried chicken was cold and hard, and the short ribs had just been braised and kept warm so long that that it developed a burnt crust. I suspect the earlier reservations were fine, so just beware of the 8:00 dining window. And for Pete's sake, dim the lights man, it's not a surgery center. read more

Delicious and original! The meddi plate is a fantastic shared appetizer--best pita chips and hummus ever. If you're there at happy hour, the fig tarts and the tomato tarts are beyond tasty. Fantastic risotto, fish and beef dishes. This is fast becoming our go-to place for celebratory occasions. Four stars instead of five because, while I get that restaurants serving fresh and local ingredients may sometimes run out of certain dishes, that should be announced somewhere before you order your food and have to reorder--twice in the same night, in my case. That was an unfortunate glitch. Despite that, we will be back for their phenomenal and very original meals. I have yet to taste something I don't like! Servers are friendly as well. read more

Let me start by saying, that the food here is always fantastic. We had the Korean Shortribs, the Painted Hills Brisket, which is fantastic, and the Ninkasi Burger. The kitchen definitely deserves 5-stars, however the service was awful. We walked in on a Tuesday, which is when they have Happy Hour all night, and they had a large party in the back, so I can understand the delay in service at the front because my girlfriend and I did wait a while until the bartender came out from behind the bar to tell us someone would be right with us. Then Crystal, who happened to be our server sat us. After Crystal sat us she walked away and took atleast 10 minutes to get our waters, and when she dropped them off we tried to order but she sat them on the table and walked away. Then I ordered a drink, and tried to order appetizers and she walked away again. After another 10 minutes she brought my drink and I finally ordered the ribs, and was trying to order the other entrees but she scurried off again. The appetizers were delicious, then after we finished Crystal comes up and asks if we were "done or do we want more?" So we ordered and everything was fine. But as my date and I were listening she was treating the other tables much nicer than she was treating us. She told all the other tables about specials, and had recommendations for them, they got their orders in before ours even though we had been sat first, and their waters were being filled and their drinks refilled. After our meal was finished, I was trying to get a refill, and we tried to get her attention numerous times and she walked by us but she didn't seem to hear. And by the time I actually did get her attention I was so annoyed that I just wanted to get the hell out of there so I asked for our check. My date and I assumed that we were treated worse than her other customers due to the fact that we were in our 20's, and many servers just assume that if they're young they're poor tippers. When in reality, we habitually tip 20% and appreciate good service. If someone can afford to come eat in your restaurant they should be treated the same. I've had good service from the other servers there but I definitely won't be going back. read more

The food was excellent. We had the zucchini fries, Caesar salad (which was had the best Caesar dressing I've ever had!), the Painted Hills brisket, and the shrimp and bacon risotto. The zucchini fries came piping hot, and there were plenty of them. The sauce was delicious and spicy, too. Both entrees were yummy, thought the risotto was a little too al dente for my taste. The service was a bit slow (though polite), but the food was hot and plentiful, and we got a lot for the price we paid. We had gone to DaVinci the night before and spent almost the exact same amount of money, and Amadeus won the comparison, HANDS DOWN for quality and value. Such a great place! Went for dinner with my girlfriends at 6pm on a Thursday. It was very busy but we got our food and drinks in a timely manner. I had the Greek Burger. So delicious!!! Really, would give this 4 1/2 stars if that was an option. Service was good, and exceptionally professional. Everyone loved their food, my shrimp and bacon risotto was fabulous. The ambiance is great, just funky enough. You can tell they care about their quality of ingredients. Only quibbles, while the rosemary garlic fries were fab, both parties who ordered wanted more of them. Also the tomato cut on the burgers was so large it overwhelmed the ability to taste everything and the ability to take a bite without a struggle. My husband had the lamb special which he enjoyed, another had bacon shrimp risotto, which she thought was ok, but like cream of wheat. I had the chicken, mushroom risotto, which I enjoyed. Really, the food was good with great presentation, the ambiance was perfect, but the server..... No introduction was made. He seems short when asked questions. I've been here two different times and both were for special occasions. I was here once for a bridal shower luncheon and another time for 30th birthday party. I think my fun times at those two events kind of swayed my view of the restaurant. The food is okay. Both times it was neither bad nor good but overall it was pretty unimpressive. The restaurant itself is really cute and the service is always decent but I don't think that this would be somewhere I would choose to go without there being a special event. read more
