I am always greeted very warmly and professionally and the work/tailoring always exceeds my expectations. You may think that all of these places are the same, but I can assure you they are not. If you've ever had your hem start to unravel, you know what I mean. That never happens here as they take enormous pride in what they do and they always get it right the first time and that is why I keep going back. So glad they are in my neighborhood and very highly recommend.

I can't speak for other customers' experiences, but I had no issues the few times I have been here…read more I came here a few times for pants alterations, which were $8/pants, and a zipper fix for my winter coat and the work by the employees was excellent. The shop is extremely small and tight, but the ladies here do a good job. At times, their vibe could be interpreted as unfriendly, especially if you've never interacted with them, but don't take their curtness for rudeness. In no way does it look like their intention to be unfriendly, but it's just the way they operate - quick and to the point. In addition, they don't speak fluent English, so sometimes things can get lost in translation. If you DO need any type of alterations or clothing fixes, all you have to do is walk in, present to them what you need done and they'll take a look at it on the spot and let you know if it can or cannot be done. If whatever you need can be done, they'll fill out a receipt for you with the date you came in, what the work is and how much it might cost. When your clothing is ready, they'll give you a call and you can come in to pick it up. It's that easy or at least those were the experiences I had and each time was a replica of the previous. In addition, the pricing for their work was very reasonable as I called up a few tailoring shops for a quote and Sanita's always came out as the lowest or equivalent.

Sandra promptly answered that she is just focusing on bridal at the moment but gave a great recommendation for another tailor. I used the rec, and it turned out great! I met her at her immaculate studio in Fort Green and fell in love with her immediately. She was super sweet, very supportive, but most importantly, very very calm. It was my first time being a bridesmaid in a VERY important wedding (I'm talking million dollar Great Gatsby type wedding, 1,000 guests being held at a private museum in California). I was going to be surrounded by a bunch of people from high school that I hadn't seen in ages, so in a way it was like the high school reunion I never wanted. It was important that I made a good impression. But, not surprisingly, the bridesmaids dress was hideous and fit me awkwardly. I looked like a seal dressed in a pear costume. I needed this fixed, pronto. The problem was I had to alter the dress without it looking like it had been altered. The bride(zilla) had specifically said that she didn't want anyone to change or alter the dress. When I told Sandra this, she was very understanding and dealt with my neurosis very well. What I liked her her also, was that she was very confident. She told me exactly what needed to be done to make the dress fit my body type and complement my curves and height. She assured me she would be stealthy about the alterations and clean everything up seamlessly so no one would ever know I had changed it. Less than two weeks later I went to go pick up the dress. I slipped the dress on almost in slow motion because I was apprehensive about how the dress would look. The wedding was a week away, so if it didnt work out, I wouldnt have much time to fix it. But ALAS, the dress FIT LIKE A GLOVE and I stood there staring at myself in the mirror, amazed that it was the same dress! I couldn't believe it! Somehow she made it so the dress actually looked flattering! I kept asking her over and over how she did it, and she said she changed the waist line, took in some of the weird puffiness out on the sides etc etc. I was totally flabbergasted and so, so grateful. Now I could go to this wedding confident, not having to feel self conscious in a dress that made me look ridiculous. I just came back from the wedding this weekend. It was a beautiful but ridiculous affair (people spraying 200$ bottles of champaign all over the dance floor, fighter jets flying over the ceremony, opera singers, lots of taxidermy). As I hoped, no one expected a thing. I even got compliments on how cute the dress looked on me, which we all know is rare for a bridesmaid dress. So, point is, go to Sandra with you most delicate, prized wedding designs and dresses. This girl is professional and patient. I loved working with her. If I ever decide to get married, I'm going back to her.

On the most important day she helped make us look and feel confident and amazing. I have lived in nyc for 7+ years and have gone to multiple places for tailoring/alterations and no one compares. She gave feedback and answered all our questions and helped make the right decisions about how to alter each piece. Above and beyond her amazing personality and professionalism she COMES TO YOUR APT. Worth every penny. Would give 10 stars if yelp allowed.

Katie is an outstanding tailor, and also an outstanding businessperson…read more I first contacted Katie in the fall, seeking someone to alter a few pairs of pants. She arrived at my home on time, and I was immediately struck by how friendly, upbeat and body-positive she is. What began as a simple pinning/tailoring appointment ended up being a whole-wardrobe consultancy, and Katie was patient, attentive and took her time to talk to me about clothes, fitting and dressing to feel good. The bottom line - Katie wants people to feel good in their clothes. I'm a plus sized girl who wears menswear, I carry all my weight around my waist and it's difficult to find clothes that fit all over my body as the proportions are frequently too big in some spots and too tight in others. Katie made me feel completely comfortable to talk about these issues, ask questions, and discuss challenges related to shopping off the rack. She was emphatic that there are no wrong bodies, only clothes that don't fit, and her mission is to help people find confidence through clothes that look and feel great. She gave me tips for shopping off the rack, and talked a lot about how tailoring, even in the smallest ways, can help to completely restyle a garment and look, and she was right. The pants I got back from her fit better than any pair I've ever owned, and immediately made me a convert to tailoring clothes. Katie has tailored a few things for me since then, including the suit I wore at my recent wedding. Even on occasional short notice, she's sweet, enthusiastic about doing business with me, prompt to appointments and prompt returning my garments, and does excellent work with fine attention to detail. If you're a plus sized person looking to find a better fit for suiting or menswear, if you're a woman who has trouble fitting men's clothes to your body, or just a person who has always felt not quite at home in the clothes you wear, Katie is the perfect tailor for you. That's in addition to anyone who just needs a tailor for standard jobs. 5 of 5 stars for Mend Tailoring and Katie!

If it's your first time getting anything tailored, I can give perspective that prices are definitely reasonable for the work, and hand work isn't (and shouldn't be!) cheap.
