Mike confirmed we needed a new pump and quoted the same price our inspector estimated. This shows his pricing was reasonable and upcharge was minimal. Mike also said we needed a new pool sweep (which we desperately did) and told me the least expensive place to get it. I purchased that and he installed it at no charge. Being a first time pool-owner I had many questions and Mike always responded to my texts and calls. He also helped find us a great company to install solar panels for our pool! A few weeks after we moved in we purchased a spa and are having Matthews Pool Service service that as well. One day our pool turned cloudy and I called Mike. He had someone come out that day and take a look. A few hours later all was fixed! I would highly recommend Matthews Pool Service and supporting a local company. Whoever my current pool tech is, has been doing a great job. The other big thing is that Ash picks up the phone immediately when you call. There is no back and forth.

At this point he said he had "zero interest" in my job. I told him that I would be paying him directly and I would deal with my warranty company to get reimbursed, I just needed an estimate from him. He still said no and then his next issue was our heater was too old, probably going to be "too much of a headache". Uh, gee of course it's older, that's probably why it broke down and needs repair. I would imagine new heaters generally don't need repair, but I guess logic and Mike the Poolman don't mix. I found another Company that came out the same day and determined it was unrepairable as the part needed wasn't available anymore. So, guess what? My warranty company authorized a brand new installation of a replacement as the old one is unrepairable. Mike just walked away from a new heater installation job that was no issue or problem for me to get approved. I'll be getting a brand new Jandy heater installed. I was a client of Bishop Pool Service for about five years. I inherited them from the previous…read moreowner, so they're well aware of my pool being a saltwater pool. That said, it was always a challenge to get them to use salt instead of chlorine when they would adjust chemicals and clean my pool. No matter how many times I asked, they would forget and continue to use chlorine, which unfortunately was too harsh on my toddler's skin. I made multiple calls about this and reminded the technicians multiple times about this, but I would still get a new technician every six to nine months, and I had to start all over again. The two straws that broke the camel's back were: 1. A 30% increase in monthly pricing 2. A new technician explaining that the reason they can't add salt is because it slows down his route I switched over to Ralphie's Pool Service and am already much, much happier. Ralphie's pricing is significantly less expensive, they bring their own pool salt, and they don't even charge you for the salt. Bishop also charges $300 to clean pool filters compared to $100 with Ralphies. Joel (my technician for the past year at Bishop) was awesome btw.

He dialed in the automatic chlorine feeder and replumbed the system, removing the old waterfall and integrating it with the new variable-speed one I already had. He even spray-painted the pipes to match, which was a really nice finishing touch. He also took the time to integrate all of my new add-ons into my Pentair panel and set everything up with specific schedules so everything works together properly. He made sure I understood how everything was connected and how the different components work. The setup came out clean, professional, and exactly how I wanted it. A few hiccups, but they were always dealt with in a respectful way and timely manner. We recently ended service with them only because we are trying to sell our home and we are trying to cut costs. We figured we could maintain the pool ourselves through the rest of the year. We called and were able to cancel our monthly service with them pretty easily. They were kind and helpful, but no information was given about the way they would leave the pool on their final service. Their departure, unfortunately, was disappointing and ended up costing us almost $400 to fix their mistake which actually defeated the entire purpose of trying to do this on our own to save money. I'm not sure if it's standard practice to leave everything with the pool completely OFF, but some notice and communication would have been nice. Everything was turned off. There was no power going into our pool. The filter, vacuum, pump, everything was turned off and in August heat this was a disaster for algae to grow. We didn't notice it until it was too late. I guess it grows quick in the heat because 2 separate trips to the pool store and $400 later we were able to get the pool back, but what a disappointment. I thought we had a week from the time Nevergreen serviced our pool until we needed to worry about it, but that was being under the impression that the filter, pump, vacuum etc was still running and keeping things clean. I do want to note that I really enjoyed our pool guy - I wish I remembered his name! Austin? He was super nice and helpful and when he learned we were cancelling he even took some time to show me a few things about the pool and equipment. Super helpful. I don't blame him. I don't imagine it would be his responsibility to communicate with me those details and he doesn't see me every week regardless. I am more upset with the back office and the lack of communication (no call or email explaining what to expect) when closing out an account and not going over the way things will end. Unless this is not common practice -- if everything should have been left on as it was, then I'm sorry to whoever services our pool lol I don't want to get him specifically in trouble, but this was a very costly mistake for us in an already difficult financial time.
