Normally love this place but tonight my husband ordered one of his favorites, Sea Bass which is a relatively new menu item. For $22.95, we did not expect to get a herb buttered and pan fried piece of talapia. Once it was laid before him, we both recalled this happening before when he ordered the sea bass. At that time he questioned the waitress about the fish's identity and was told "that's our Sea Bass". Hence, do not order the menu item labeled Sea Bass unless you like talapia and are good with paying $22.95 for it. read more

If I could put no stars, I would. I took my mom here for Mother's Day and called ahead and was told it was in the banquet room. Since we're four, they forced us to eat in a restaurant, which is not what I was told. Extremely disappointed. I would have been better off taking my mother and family to a Dennys than this. 1 star for customer service. My husband and his mom had lunch here. I was working and they ordered a chicken finger sub (hot, not tomato, with onion and oil) for me to go. Unwrapped my sub to see it was lathered in mayo. Called the restaurant and they asked if we could come back and exchange the sub, we leave in Orchard Park so it isn't around the corner. We were so excited that patio's have opened back up! We decided to go to Alton's because it was close to home and starting to get chilly. So we wanted to be in and out. Once arriving, (you have to wear your mask entering the building) we were seated right away outside. There was two other tables seated 6ft apart. The staff were very organized and professional about maintaining social distancing guidelines. Our waitress also wore a mask while serving us. She was very sweet and attentive. My boyfriend ordered the buffalo chicken melt, and I of course got the Friday fish fry. The fish fry was excellent. Meaty, hot, crispy. The fish also came with a side of coleslaw, pasta salad and a boat load of French fries. (Haha) the only part I didn't love was the pasta salad. It just wasn't for me. My boyfriend also said he enjoyed his sandwich. He did mention it could have been a little more spicy, but overall would order it again! This place was way more than I could have imagined. Maybe I'm biased since my wedding reception is here next year, but I'm pretty sure this is the best souvlaki I've ever had. My fiancé and I made a last minute decision to stop here for dinner the other day. We wanted to try the food since Alton's will be feeding our almost 200 guests in just a few short months! We were nothing short of amazed. I got the open beef souvlaki served medium, and my fiancé got the chicken. He wasn't even that hungry when we came in, but we both pretty much licked our plates clean. Next time I want souvlaki, I absolutely will make the drive to get it here. This is the perfect breakfast or lunch spot! Alton's gives you that cozy diner feel and the food never disappoints. The waitstaff is always friendly and attentive as well. To start, I had French Onion soup and as for my lunch, I decided to be adventurous and ordered the Patty Melt (with some substitutions) everything was cooked to perfection, and the amount of cheese was spectacular. Altons! This place doesn't need my review because they are always rocking it already, but here we go! Altons is your typical style cozy diner with a touch of romantic lighting and decor. The menu has what one might expect from a diner type joint and it delivers exactly that. We came here for a late dinner and of course I ordered breakfast! I got the open beef souvlaki breakfast with rye toast and hash browns. The meat was marinated well and cooked to perfection. I ordered it medium-well and the hashbrowns were cubed. The rye toast unfortunately came out soaked in butter and soggy and my one gripe about the meat itself was the salt level. A bit much for me. My date got a turkey melt with fries. It looked good. I tasted her fries and I gotta say, I don't eat them often but they tasted a LOT like McDonalds fries! Take that how you may, but she liked em and I did too. Overall I feel like the prices were on the high side for what is served, but I think location and convenience dictate cost here. Stopped in for a late breakfast today after a long ride home. Was seated and served quickly even though they were kind of busy. Ordered the corned beef hash with eggs over easy. The food took a while and when it finally arrived it was lukewarm at best, I didn't complain because I didn't want to wait all over again. Unfortunately as soon as the food came, so did the flies and I was constantly swishing them away from my food. Upon checking out I was asked if everything was ok and I replied "the food was ok but could have tasted a little fresher, it was almost cold and you need to do something about all these flies". Love that they have big tables in the back as there were 9 of us. We were seated promptly at a large round table. Our server was very good and took our order quickly. No problem getting separate checks either. The menu has lots of choices and we all found something we like. Overall food was good but my husband got the beef souvlakia breakfast and asked for the beef medium rare but it was well done. We told our waitress and she went and got him some more. Unfortunately that beef was well done too. We did not bother to tell the waitress this time as we didn't want to wait again and she was very busy. Excellent food, excellent service, Sheila did a phenomenal job. This place was packed on a Sunday morning with a11$ breakfast buffet and somehow our food with at a table of 8 comes out within 15 minutes. One of the things the tourism folks don't showcase about Western New York is our abundance of the greek diner. It is the one brand of restaurant where everybody, no matter how finicky the taste bud, can find something to eat. If they can't, it's not the restaurant's fault. One of the best practitioner's of this fine art is Alton's. Sometimes you don't want a surprise, you just want your food prepared well, with some taste and care and you don't want your wallet to have a bad experience either. Two recent visits have me thinking they are the kings of the greek diner circuit. Chicken Souvlaki Breakfast, one of my go tos, was a choice on one visit, and it was everything you are looking for in such an entree. Well prepped chicken, a lovely mountain of home frees, eggs spot on, I felt like I might just survive the day looking at the plate. Other visit at the Walden Ave location featured a chicken supreme sandwich. Tasty well prepped grilled chicken, crispy bacon (Bacon never ruins anything unless the donut shops get their hands on it) and again, a great value. Both my stomach and my wallet liked the results. It's comfy, kitchy, good eating that you can show up and enjoy without pretention. Sometimes it's a relief to just ask for "Coffee" and get it made right. read more

I've been there multiple times, and was never impressed with anything...In fact most of the food I have gotten is plain, and low end.....The mash potatoes are microwave mash potatoes...I also have a feeling some of the food comes to the restaurant pre-made...Like one time I got some lobster ravioli, and was totally unimpressed...It had like no flavor to it.....They would get one star but I have yet to try their breakfast, and they restaurant is newly remodeled and clean.... Went in for lunch. We were seated promptly. Our server Kim came right over and took our order. As the restaurant was packed, we expected a longer wait for food to come out. When our food was served,we noticed it was not hot,only tepid. Kim came right back and made sure it was warmed to our liking. We had the liver and onions with potatoes and a vegetable. Both came out very good, had take out and food was not ready when we walked in but was soon after. The hostess was great. This used to be our favorite restaurant, prior to new management. There are menu substitutions that are not communicated before it's served and they changed the recipe for the tzatziki. It used to make the open chicken souvlaki. Now it's not creamy but tasteless and grainy. The spices are bland with big chunks of leaves in it. They are definitely cutting corners. The ultimate example of poor management was when a couple asked what happened to their favorite server, the manager told them he had to be let go due to calling in too often. Wow!! Half the restaurant couldn't help but hear that. A professional would have said he moved on without broadcasting he had been let go. This is not the Alton's we all knew and loved. read more

My friend and I went there yesterday. The place was packed. I gave the greeter my name and we took a seat in the waiting area. My friend preferred to sit outside but we specified we would take any table. Two couples came in and was seated before us. I approached the greeter and politely asked why they were taken first. She glanced down at her list and muttered you're next. And then she started walking away. No apologies. Needless to say we left. Yes they were busy, but being rude to customers is no excuse. This is a decent place for a casual lunch or dinner. Decent soups, salads and sandwiches. Entrees are available as well as wine/beer though I can't comment on either. Our lunch party of 7 enjoyed the club sandwich, the grilled burger stuffed with blue cheese, the BLT, French toast, Greek lemon soup and awesome lobster bisque. Did I mention that the Lobstah Bisque is awesome? Sandwiches come with fries or a cuppa soup. I upgraded my soup to the Lobster Bisque - did I indicate it's awesomeness? It's a nice sized serving of rich, creamy shellfish soup topped with chunks of lobster meat. All in all, it's a satisfactory simple eatery with decent sandwiches at reasonable prices. We frequent this place very often. Breakfast are great. I love the French toast and sausage links or just get the Alton Special. The open chicken souvlaki is large, fresh, and the marinated chicken is flavorful and tender. However the reason for this review is they are now serving the best strawberry shortcake I've ever eaten. The warmed shortcake is made in house which tastes like a combination of vanilla cake mix and corn bread. It's a large portion with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. Delicious! read more

My family and I have always loved Alton's but after tonight we've decided to take our business elsewhere. We placed a takeout order over the phone and of the order was a "hot roast beef sandwich". When we got home (20 mins away) we noticed there were no fries and just a few slices of roast beef, not even fully covering the store bought plain white bread. We were beyond disappointed to say the least and soon became disgusted when we noticed the beef was shimmering green. We obviously did not want to eat it so we called the restaurant and told them we'd bring it back, although extremely out of the way, but didn't want another just wanted our money back. When we arrived back with the sandwich they took it in the back they said we could either get a refund or a gift certificate. We appreciated the gift certificate, even though it just meant going back and only profiting them, but we wanted our money back for the meal we couldn't eat. They refused so we settled for the gift certificate. Severely disappointed with the quality and owner's judgement on how certain situations should be handled, especially from regular customers and rotten food. My 4 stars is almost exclusively for the turkey club sandwich. So fresh! Real carved turkey, not some limp salty cold cuts. Soft bread. Overall delicious. But I didn't order that. My Mom did. With a cup of beef vegetable soup on the side. The soup broth was tasty but there was SO MUCH celery in the cup and like 2 teeny pieces of beef. I loathe celery so even the sight of this cup made me shudder, though I did taste the broth. I ordered the chicken souvlaki platter, mostly because I wanted Greek potatoes on the side. The portion of chicken and salad was large but lacked a good amount of feta, which I love. The potatoes came in just a little side on a plate. They tasted good but it was a small portion and didn't taste very lemony, which is what I love about Greek potatoes. The pita was okay, not amazing. It was overall okay, maybe like a 3.5 stars. It's "the spot" on Sundays so expect a wait while the church crowds move in and out, but it's a fast turn around so you won't wait long. What a satisfying place for a pre mall lunch. Our waitress was so thoughtful. When we split a milkshake, we each got individual mini shakes topped with whipped cream. The extra effort was awesome. My fiance and I were on our way out to East Aurora and due to my inability to understand directions we ended up passing by this place and I was like "Oh, I think this place is good?" We were hungry travelers and decided to grab some breakfast before figuring out how to get to EA. The interior of this place must have been remodeled very recently and it looks really nice. We were seating quickly and our waitress seemed very experienced. Their menu is pretty standard for breakfast. I got the "Alton's special" with eggs, ham and pancakes. My fiance was going to get the 2 eggs with hashbrowns and inquired with the waitress how much an extra egg would be and she said "You'd be better off just buying a dozen from the store. It's $1.95 extra." And then he ended up getting an omelet, which is made with 3 eggs anyways. The food came out really quickly but was just meh. Canadian bacon instead of real tasty breakfast ham (I'm thinking of you Family Tree) and the pancakes were okay but nothing special. The "Meh. Overall, the food is good, service is acceptable. BUT...the only reason for the 2 stars is they they serve their salads on a warm-to-hot plate. I do enjoy their salads but by the time your done eating the lettuce is cooked, wilted and slimy. I have spoken to management and servers before but they just say "oh well, that's what we do". My boyfriend and I come here every time we're in town! The home-made spanakopita is to die for (and my family is Greek) and the chicken souvlaki breakfast is deeelish. We also love the open gyro and home fries. We actually split the seafood pasta here last time (mussels, scallops and shrimp in a tomato-based sauce) and it was wonderful. The seafood tasted fresh and all the flavors blended together to create a simply blissful dish. Another favorite of mine are the sea scallops- they give you a ton of 'em for a decent price and they come in a delicious butter-garlic sauce. Yummm. This is probably the WORST dining experience I have ever had. They refuse to make substitutions with items on the menu to accommodate to dietary restrictions.
