They have several locations- including Riverside, Tustin, and Carlsbad. For more information about Alternative Retail sales, you can sign up for their newsletter. Many sales require you to sign up in advance for a particular date and time, otherwise you are on standby to get in. These sales offer great reduction on items, so if you area fan of these brands or like in kind check out their website. The Olukai sale that I recently went to, offered predominately shoes. Most people were on the hunt for sandals, as their shoes tend to be over 100 dollars. The offerings were in big boxes by size where you had to hunt and peck for shoes. The offerings did not only include sandals, but also included slippers and tennis shoes. The men shoes had a lot more variety. Beyond the Olukai brand, there were couple of other brands being offered that provided yoga wear, snow wear, and sunglasses. The experience was good as fellow customers were not agressive. The event was pretty tame. If you have interested in a brand, and you don't mind searching through boxes, then this is a good opportunity to snag a deal. While the supply of items may be hit or miss every weekend, this Alternative Retail offers great warehouse clearance sales. Different brands have their sales here for a specific amount of time. This location focuses a lot on nearby activities, so anything for surfing, swimming, exercising, snowboarding/skiing, etc. They also just have sales for other brands that you may not expect, like rent the runway, Tillys, beach riot, beis, olukai, aloha, etc. It's almost endless with the amount of brands they work with. You do now have to reserve free tickets to go inside the warehouse to shop. Again it is free but you do have to book a specific time slot online. It's best to just follow alternative retail on Instagram as they post the brand sale drops for the weekend and they have the link to reserve your tickets. Plenty of parking as they took over a portion of the old sears at the mall so the parking is like endless. While I don't find things to get every-time I go, they always have a massive selection of brands and stock, no matter what day you go! read more

Depending on what brands are for sale, you can score some great deals. Initially, we would sign up online for a pre-selected time but found that just showing up at the door generally works and they just let you in, except when the brand was Vuori, lines were long when it came to that. Generally, there will be a mix of designer brands for sale, either with fixed prices or 60-70% off regular price. For example, I purchased Roxy waterproof hiking boots for around $20 and tshirts of brands like O'Neill, Obey, or Salty Crew are around $10-$12. Fun shopping experience, I would return. read more

If you're into surfing, camping, overlanding, and working out this is the spot to get all of your gear. The "cheap" deals aren't that good at all but the outdoor gear is the best bang for your buck. A taste of Black Friday in April. Alternative Retail is a warehouse clearance store that has popped up in Carlsbad, Tustin, and Riverside. AR partners with a ton of different major retailers, including fan-favorites like Vuori, Billabong, Beis, and even Herschel. One of my besties dragged me to their Carlsbad location for the Tilly's x Oakley sale and now I'm addicted. This location is attached to a mall, in a Sears-esque type space, with plenty of parking. Prior to arriving you have to reserve (free) tickets via Eventbrite to the event. These tickets will assign you to a specific time segment to make sure the store doesn't get too crowded. They also have a line for walk-ins, but your entry will be up to chance. For more popular brand takeovers (like Vuori), they also limit the number of items each person can purchase. The warehouse is filled with thousands of discounted items from their partnered retailer of the week. I ended up taking home a few tops, yoga pants, and a pair of sunglasses - originally $130, but I got them for $24! I also loved the amount of ski/snowboard gear offered at this location. They had bibs, jackets, gloves, and goggles for a steep discount. The perfect spot for your next gear upgrade! I had so much fun here today. Went for the Rent the Runway sale. Got free tickets in advance for an 11am entry (my husband graciously came to help me carry stuff) with no issue. Zero parking issues (it's at a mall) and we were let in when we got there- about 10 minutes before our allotted time. The front of the store is other brands. They had ski gear, winter coats, some clothes for men- my husband found a pair of Reef shorts, Sol Angeles (I got 2 sweatshirts for $25 a pop), boxes of swimsuits by size, racks and racks of kid clothes, and toward the back/ side of the store were the Rent the Runway racks. All organized by size and type of clothes. This was almost all dresses (short and long). Some pants. Not many tops to speak of and no jackets or sweaters. It was busy, but everyone was very calm and it wasn't a grab fest. Realize that these clothes are at their end of rental life. Think faded from washings, small stains, pulls, loose buttons, etc etc... I am very handy with a needle and a sewing machine, so I knew I could fix almost any issue I saw. I got an Altuzarra dress (loose buttons), a Ted Baker dress (sleeves cut shorter but you'd never know and pulls on the hemline), a Splendid dress (small stains but came out with pretreatment and a run through the wash when I got home), a Dress the Population dress (no issues that I could find) and some Ashley Park pants (no issues). Everything was 90% off retail. An hour is plenty of time to shop. I wore exercise leggings and a thin shirt so I could try things on and that worked really well. Hubby took photos if he wasn't sure about the way it looked since there are no mirrors so I could see what I looked like. I am SO grateful that this type of shopping exists! It's such an awesome way to keep clothes out of landfills and give people a chance to wear these items. read more

Even when it's a specific brand drop, they still have products from a lot of other companies. You'll find a lot of items people didn't want, but you'll also find some good quality items too! Great selection and pricing but no dressing rooms. Today I had to have the transaction checked multiple times. First they said it would be $83 and was quickly like no thank you before doing the math and realizing they were charging me wrong. I went and took pictures of the signs and showed my kids 3T items they were trying to ring up as womens. The woman apologized and said she thought it was a women's dress. Like really? It's for toddlers. Point is check your bill and pay attention to the signs because they will over charge you and say they don't know what the item is. Go early. My wife and I discovered the store at the Carlsbad mall and we were very pleasantly surprised. We both have been telling other people about it so it's safe to say that it's worth a visit. I just want to keep buying their socks hahaha. Essentially you can find tons of namebrand clothes for really big markdowns and they're all in great shape. These clothes and accessories are brand that we would usually not buy so freely but at Alternative Retail we can splurge! I want to thank one of the managers Chris he was extremely helpful and we really enjoyed having his knowledge and his patience. Because of him, we like the store even more! I was skeptical about this place, because I saw it on a Instagram ad for a Lulus warehouse sale. I came out of curiosity, and I had no idea that a retail store like this existed in San Diego. It was not just Lulu's, but it was also Nixon and a couple other surf brands and small brands. They even had surf and skateboards at very low prices! They did have good deals and the larger selection than I was expecting. They are not open seven days a week, and I think only on specific days they have certain brands. They alternate, so make sure you keep an eye out on their Instagram for what's coming here next! read more

I didn't know that a discounted retail warehouse existed at The Shoppes at Carlsbad. It is located at the first floor and it is a really wide space. I went to purchase some Beís handbags which were priced as photo attached. The reason why I give this a 3 stars instead of 4 is because of the impression that you have to sign up for a time slot to get into the store. On the Instagram page "alternativeretail_sd" they have free "tickets" to go to different warehouse sales at this location BUT when it was my time slot to go, the security didn't even check my event code. Does anyone else experience this? Do we need to sign up for these types of sales? The security (which he was the only security person there) let people in and it was hectic to get to the bins. Most items are not in its original plastic packaging so just be aware. Also be aware of items being charged the price you are expecting when you are the check-out. read more
