My parents have been coming here for years and Lynn has always done a great job. I bought my wedding dress off rack so I needed some alterations and had a vision of what I wanted it to look like. There were 4 layers of tulle and I had her remove 2. I also had her make the silky inner layer form fitting so it would accentuate my body and be less poofy. BEWARE: Horrible workmanship. This is my swimsuit that needed the straps shortened and it was returned to me with 1.5 inch segments just dangling in the back. How do you wear something like this? This has been a "go to" place for us to get alterations done when we've been in a bind/last minute or just an easy hem job (as I'm short). We haven't done anything that required seamstress type work like bringing in a dress or fixing the shoulders of a blazer. Ours have been hemming that are too long and fixing sleeves that are too long. Whenever we've had a job needing to be like this last one over the years which was coming in Tuesday and she fixed the blazer sleeves Wednesday so we were ready for Thursday event was a save for us! My best guess on the bad reviews maybe that she's not the most personable person, but she's gotten the jobs done for us over the years. We were in a tight timeline and she did it for us. When I say over the years, it maybe the past 10 years. So I am grateful I can go to her and get the job done and not stress. read more

I brought my wedding dress here to get altered based off a recommendation from an employee at Mens Warehouse in the same mall. There was only one woman working there when i went in which was no problem, seeing that she was busy i was sure to politely tell her to take her time and no rush i wasnt in a hurry. Finally it was my turn to try my dress on for a consultation, they woman started tugging and shifting my dress with a very frustrated look on her face. She was deep sighing and saying "this dress makes you look so shapeless..You shouldve bought a different dress..where did you even get this dress.. You have a good shape you should've bought a different dress" lol WHAT?!! I was so taken back and discouraged, i LOVED my dress and now suddenly had doubts. On top of that she kept disagreeing with me on modifications (she kept insisting on a button for the train and kept saying the lace i wanted to add to the straps would look bad, among other things). Then after we finally agreed on the alterations it was time for her to make the markings- she kept mumbling instructions and i wasnt able to hear or understand her every direction which seemed to really annoy her. I left my dress with her and left the store feeling embarassed, confused, upset, and extremely unsure if my dress was the right choice. The only reason i gave 2 stars was because she was friendly when i returned a few weeks later to pick up my dress, also the quality of the alterations looked great. I absolutely would not return here nor would i recommend this business for anyone else. The disrespect and poor customer relations make the good alterations slip through the cracks. read more

The reason I started writing reviews on Yelp was to help others and to honor great business. I feel scammed and so angry at how things were done here! Please do NOT get your alterations/measurements done here. If you want to give service to a professional store, I would recommend Nordstrom. I am a bridesmaid wanting to get measurements of my bust waist and hips. I ask her if she does that. "Yes, for both of you?" (My sister was also with me at the time.) "Yes." Lynn, the owner says, "Okay." She proceeds to immediately measure us...in front of everyone in the lobby of the store. Three measurements are recorded on old receipt paper for each of us. She doesn't say a word to us as she has this disgusted look on her face like she was judging us. After our 4 minutes of service, we thank her. I'm hoping it's complimentary since anyone can do these kinds of measurements. She goes, "We charge. $10." I give her my credit card, and after my transaction see that I was charged $20. What?!!?! How do you say "10 dollars" and charge a different price?! This is ridiculous business. So I spent $20 in 4 minutes....I do better on a black jack table!! I told her to please be more clear the next time so that we know exactly what we are being charged. She rolled her eyes at me and says, "We very busy, we have customer. We charge everything." At this kind of customer service, I was livid and told her that I am never coming back. Save yourself of hassle and stress and do NOT come here for anything. :) read more

The owner of this store Lynn charged me $128 to re-alter two dresses. Prior to that, she already charged me a few hundred dollars to alter these same two dresses. And she suggested to me that these two dressed needed to be altered again since I had lost weight over the months. So I paid her the $128. A month later, I asked if it was done and she said no. Then a couple of months after that, I checked again and it was still not finished. As I didn't need those two dresses immediately, I actually ended up completely forgetting about these two dresses. Now it's been a couple of years then I suddenly remembered that I needed my dresses back. I asked her if the alterations have been done, and again she told me not yet. Disgusted, I finally told her I didn't need the work done now and I would like a refund since she didn't perform the service. When I told her that, she then tries to claim that I never paid. In this store, you have to pay before the service. Now she denied that I had paid and is not willing to refund. In addition, these are expensive dresses and she didn't even put them away carefully. When I went to her store to get my dresses back, they were buried underneath a pile of clothes and one of them were badly ripped apart. This store is a scam and the owner Lynn is a very dishonest person. I would avoid using them at all costs. read more

I came in looking to get measured for a dress to be custom fit to my body. The owner, Lynn, pulled out a piece of paper and started taking my measurements. She then informed me it was $10. I felt that she should have informed me about the cost BEFORE she started the job. What it comes down to is the lack of communication for how much a measurement will cost; rather than doing the job and then asking for a payment. I feel stupid as to why I drove here to get measurements that could've been done at home without having my day ruined. I wish I could give her 0 stars... Came here to get some of my Indian clothes altered and the lady helping me told me she was happy I wasn't "dark Indian" because they tend to smell. She continued to ask me questions of why I would work when I am getting married and was just very unprofessional and racist. I tried to overlook this since I need to get these pieces altered ASAP and when it was time to pay she said it would be $100 for 2 pieces! All she had to do was take in a half inch on each side of the tops and I have gotten many pieces altered in the past and never paid this much. I grabbed my items and left. Terrible service. I came in there to get a pair of jeans hemmed. The lady marks them, then says, "Ok," and then immediately leaves the room. Meanwhile, I'm thinking, "It seems a bit short." Well, I went outside the fitting room to look for the seamstress to possibly remeasure, and she was gone. Won't be back for 30 minutes. WTF? How are you going to measure me, and then immediately leave, without letting me tell you what I think?? Wow. Go to Nordstrom and use them instead. Purchased a dress on line for a wedding. Perfect dress that needed to be taken in. Paid $30 which was half of the price of the dress to have the sides taken in so that the dress look more fitted. Paid it out if desperation because wedding was in a couple of days. Got a receipt showing paid and came back when she told me to. Couldn't make it back to pick up the dress because of work so I sent my husband. Big mistake! Husband came home with "altered" dress and after trying it on, the dress looked the same. Wtf! No alterations were done, dress still looked boxy vs fitted, no visible threading like she sewed anything. What did I pay $30 for? At the point, screw it. I wore the dress to the wedding and had a wonderful time but will never ever go back to this place again. Come here at your own risk. This Alterations shop has been here for years. It's in a prime location. I'm sure she gets hundreds of naive walk-in customers, like myself....just ripping us off one by one and literally making a ton of money. Must be nice. My fiance, and now wife, had selected this place based off the more affordable pricing for wedding dress alterations. This alteration required hemming, and a cup adjustment. All said to be minor alterations. We provided the dress 6-months prior to the wedding date, yet the alterations were not ready until 1-day before the wedding. This was due to multiple last minute appointment cancellations by the tailor, Lynn. Although appointments could be made, there were five occasions in which my wife showed up and Lynn was still not done with the agreed alterations. Despite the apologies and verbal promises to right these issues, such as cleaning stains made by the tailor without charge, no such activities were done. We were incredibly disappointed, and the added stress was definitely not worth the slightly cheaper pricing. We would not recommend this tailor for future brides. read more

It's hard for me to trust a stranger with a new dress or another piece of clothing but not here. The ladies and Alterations Unlimited are fast and friendly. The detail they put into a dress of mine was wonderful. I had bought a dress of eBay for an event that weekend. The dress needed to be taken in a bit but it was Friday! I called around and no one could have it done by the next morning. I finally called this place in the mall and they could help. I brought my dress in, had the size taken in and suggested an better zipper. In an hour the dress was ready. It fit great and their suggestion on the the new invisible zipper really improved the look of the dress. The best part was i got it all done for under 50 bucks. These people are great! read more

HORRIBLE service. Will NEVER step foot in there again! Bought a suit at Macy's, and the sales associate recommended Alterations Unlimited. The owner was rude, and the cost of the alterations (pay in advance!) was almost half the cost of the suit itself (for alterations to the pants and coat sleeves, plus hemming the pant legs). A week later, when I arrived to pick up the suit, I discovered that not only were the alterations not finished, but they hadn't even been started! To make matters worse, the suit wasn't even tagged, which explains why it took the clerk more than 10 minutes of finger-searching through every garment on the rack just to find my suit! I demanded my money back, and the clerk literally threw the pen onto the table for me to sign my refund receipt. Shared this terrible experience with the Manager of the Men's Dept. at Macy's, with my hearty recommendation that they NEVER refer their customers back to this business. And, from the looks of the other reviews posted here, I am NOT alone in my dissatisfaction! (Fortunately, Macy's is picking up the slack where Alterations Unlimited miserably failed) read more

I have used this tailor shop before, with excellent results. Even though I moved away from Pleasanton, I brought two valuable items that I didn't want to trust to my local dry cleaners. The alterations were performed well, but in the process both items were damaged. The Theory silk skirt needed to be shortened by about 4 inches. She charged me $50, paid in advance, to hem it. When I picked it up, it had a large water spot, as if from a steam iron. The owner says it must have been there before, because she "only ironed the bottom near the hem and not the whole skirt." My dry cleaner was not able to remove the spot. The Akris jacket needed shortened sleeves. She charged me $60 to do it from the shoulder rather than the end to save the decorative cuffs. It now has a slice through the fabric on the bodice, as if it were snagged on scissors or a pin. Again, she claimed that the damage was there before. I know that sometimes accidents happen, and they had never happened to happen before, and they might never happen again. However, when I pointed out these damages, she claimed that they were damaged before, and did not offer to refund the price I paid for the alterations. I have not even asked for the considerable value of the items, just the cost of the service she performed. Of course they can't be returned due to the alterations, and it would be unfair to hold the merchants responsible for damage that took place after I bought it anyway. I will not risk it again--not because the accidents happened, but because of the failure to own up afterward. read more

I will never return to this place for alterations! Took 2 dresses in to get hemmed and the sleeves shortened on one of them. Lynn measured and pinned both dresses and the sleeves. Then writes up the invoice, $75 total!!! I paid because I needed one of the dresses for a wedding a week away. Came back 7 days later and as soon as I walked in, she blurts out "oh I forgot to charge you for the sleeves"! Really?!?! She Tells me it's another $15! Ugh. Should have read the reviews before coming here. I had a faux fur coat that I needed to have altered because it was too long. I was at the mall and decided to stop at Alterations Unlimited. First, when I walked in there was no one there. I stood there for five minutes before finally ringing the bell (I could hear someone so I just assumed they'd hear me, too) and a woman came out. She was skeptical about shortening the jacket and then told me she could do it for $60. I said no because the jacket only cost me $30, so she said she'd do it for $50 and add pockets. So, I said yes and she told me it would be ready on Monday. Big mistake. I came in on Tuesday and, guess what...not ready! They had my cell phone but didn't bother to tell me it wouldn't be ready. I was angry because I had made a special trip to pick up the coat. In any case, my husband picked it up that night and, guess what....jacket was still too long and no pockets. Definitely save your money (that they make you pay upfront should have been a warning), time and patience and find another alteration business. read more

She can handle delicate beadwork and expensive stoning. She has often completed rush hems and alterations. I am always completely satisfied. This place is absolutely awful! I came in last Friday (1/17) to get some true religion jeans a friend had given me, altered. The lady took one glance at the pants when I had them on and I guess decided she had taken a good enough look. They told me come back the following Saturday and then charged me $80 upfront! Claiming that one part was $50 and the other was $30. This all should have been a warning for me but I was stupid and just paid them. I came back yesterday for them (1/25) and the lady said "oh they aren't ready come back in a couple hours or tomorrow". Awful business already, they have my cell and they couldn't bother to text or call me that my jeans were not ready saying "oh the jeans are very hard to work on". Anyways I returned today (1/26) and a different lady was therre and gave me the jeans and let me try them on. These jeans fit me how they did before I even took them to this place! First off, when I hear "I'll call you right away to let you know when the suit is ready", I don't expect I will have to call back 4 days later and several times to find out when it will be ready. The work on my suit was incomplete and I had to bring it back again. I heard the same response, "as soon as I find out when it will be here I'll let you know". She told us our custom pillow case would be ready in exactly a week and I called in a week to see if it was ready and she said it was not ready. Kept calling every day for about 3 days to see if it was ready and she was just making up excuses(that she wasn't at the store, she would call me the next day to see if it was ready). The owner called on the 4th day after the expected day and said it was ready but she asked what color we wanted our custom name to be in(and she said it was ready?! The only thing we wanted was a name on a pillow case...) definitely NOT ready, so she had not even STARTED on our order after 4 days of when she said it would be ready. She said she would call us when it was ready, and got no phone call. So I had to call myself and she said it was ready. Went to the store and tried getting our money back but only got about 20% back. However, as for the quality of the work itself, it was a lot better than I expected. But, after talking to her we realized she doesn't do the work herself, she outsources it to another business. My ONE star is for the good quality of the work but she had terrible customer service. read more

I've been coming here since they opened in the mall, probably around 11 years. I have never had an issue with time frames, communication or professionalism and the completed product has always been of excellent quality. They have done simple tasks such as sewing on a button to completely reconfiguring my daughter's My Little Pony costumes, 2 different costumes, 2 years in a row. I should also add, the alterations were not only to the costumes themselves, but also to accessories associated with the costumes. (My daughter is very tall for her age and does not fit into little girl costumes, so we need to get teenage sized costumes.) Everyone is friendly, my daughter is very quiet and Lynn always makes it a point to talk to her when we come in. Lynn is one of the few people my daughter speaks to freely. She's a very kind person. I came in the middle of November to drop of my wedding...I just needed the length altered and the shoulders taken in she told me to come back January 6th to pick it up. When I got there that day I said I was there to pick up my wedding dress and she looked like she had no clue what I was talking about...after about 20 seconds she remembered and then told me that it was not ready and I needed to come back the next day after 5. When I came back the next day all she had done was cut open the sleeves and sewed them to wear she had thought they were supposed to go. She had not cut off any of the length because she said she needed me there to do that. She then told me that I could pick it a week later. I came back a week later she had it finished but it had black thread all over my WHITE dress! And the dress was wrinkled. I had planned on taking it home that day but she insisted that she keep it a whole other week to clean off the thread and steam it...when I came back the next week the black thread was still all over it and all over my garment bag! It also was still super wrinkled! I got the dress home and the shoulders are still loose even though I told her to take it in more! Now it is a week before the wedding and I have to figure out how I'm going to make it work! read more
