Golden Thread Alterations

Golden Thread Alterations is operated by a Korean lady and her son. The business is located in the…read morequiet area of Livermore. Parking is off the street or in their shared parking lot. Their alteration work is very good for what I needed. The price is reasonable and fair to my budget. Her son did all of the communication and measurements and helped me to make the best decisions regarding my suit (shirt, coat & pants). The final product was very clean and I received a lot of compliments during and after my daughter's wedding. I highly recommend Golden Thread Alterations to anyone who needs alteration work (for weddings, senior ball, celebrations, etc.).

We used them several years ago to alter a wedding vest and it ended up being too tight, but we…read moredidn't make a fuss. Whatever. I went back yesterday to have a dress hemmed. My mistake. 1. The front desk man/receptionist was polite, helpful, and charming. 2. There were several women, presumably seamstresses, who I smiled at who simply looked through me as if I didn't exist. 3. The price for hemming a semi full-skirted dress was $60 which is more than the dress cost. 4. When I balked at $60, one of these women spoke in a foreign language (Vietnamese?) and the man relayed to me they could do it for $50. I shook my head, smiled, and said, No, thank you. 5. The man then said that $45 was the lowest they could go. I had NO interest in bartering for the best price. I said no again, and prepared to leave. The woman, who never glanced at me once, shrugged and walked away. Her body language made it clear she couldn't care less. 6. Which is, of course, fine. They have no need of my business. After looking at their website, they obviously are high end alterations aimed at an Asian audience. Which is fine. Just be aware that if you aren't Asian and don't have a high-end job for them, you will be treated dismissively by the seamstresses. Their website claims they are a third generation business, yet only the man speaks English, supposedly. To top off my review, I would like to add that I do NOT want to be told one price, then have that price lowered twice when I am ready to walk away. Set a FAIR price and stick to it. I will either pay it or walk away, no harm, no foul. Instead, I am left feeling like I would have been a fool if I had accepted the first price they quoted. This is not a market stall in a country where bartering is the norm. I will not return to this business and I will not recommend it to friends. ‍

From the very beginning, he was super upfront, honest, and transparent about everything, which I really appreciated. Wedding planning can already feel overwhelming, so having someone I could fully trust made such a difference. You can tell right away that he's incredibly skilled and truly knows what he's doing -- the fit turned out absolutely perfect. One thing I especially loved was how helpful he was with my bustle. I had no idea what direction to go in, and he took the time to walk me through different options and explain what would work best. His recommendation ended up being exactly what I needed -- both practical and beautiful. Beyond the actual work, his support throughout the whole process honestly took a huge weight off my shoulders. I always felt taken care of and knew I was in good hands. So so grateful I found him -- thank you again, Mo!

From the very first fitting, it was clear how meticulous and detail-oriented he is. Whether it was a simple hem or more complex work, he treated every piece with incredible care. What truly amazed me was the alterations he did on my wedding reception dress. After I lost some weight, the entire dress needed to be restructured. Mo carefully took it apart and put it back together so it would fit my new measurements perfectly. The result was flawless! It looked and felt like the dress had been custom-made for me. Mo is patient, attentive, and great at addressing all of your concerns. He takes the time to listen, explain what he's doing, and make sure you feel comfortable with the plan. He truly cares about his craft and takes pride in delivering beautiful results. If you're looking for someone you can trust with your most important pieces, especially something as meaningful as a wedding dress, Mo is your person. I highly recommend him for all alterations!

Gosh! I wish I had read the previous reviews before trusting my dry cleaning with them…read more When I dropped off my cashmere sweaters, I was quoted $5.50 each. I asked for a receipt and was told I'd receive a text. The only text I got was a generic thank-you message, not an itemized receipt. When I went to pick them up, the sweaters weren't even cleaned properly -- there were still crumbs on the sleeves. On top of that, I was charged $8 each for two sweaters and $7 for one. The manager called the staff member who had originally quoted me the price and proceeded to "train" her over the phone in front of me, instead of addressing my issue professionally. The manager's customer service was appalling, and she refused to honor the original price I was given. I'm definitely not going back here again.

I've been coming here for four years, and this used to be my favorite dry cleaner. Unfortunately,…read moreover the past two months, they've lost every single item I've brought in. They don't answer the phone, the staff is rude, they can't quote prices accurately, and worst of all--they keep denying responsibility. I've now been waiting six weeks for them to locate a very expensive sweater. I've stopped by seven times, and all I get are empty promises. This came right after another six-week ordeal just to get back my comforter, duvet, quilt, and blankets--only for them to blame me for not labeling them. Once I recover my sweater (if ever), I won't be coming back. I'd rather drive to San Francisco where I know things will be done right. Sadly, this is the second dry cleaner in the East Bay that has completely let me down.
