The Drinks are strong which is always a plus. The haunted waters is VERY coconut tasting so make sure you like coconut. The Ember rose was very sour. The Venom apple cocktail was more balanced. Service was excellent! The marinara with the calamari is spicy but cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Food & drinks are slow to come out on a Monday when not busy just fyi if you come when busier. My husband and I are honestly shocked that this place is rated a 4.7. Not only was the food mediocre, but the menu contains misleading claims, and when we brought this up, there was absolutely no accountability or acknowledgment from management. Let's start with the food: * The ceviche was overwhelmingly acidic--so much so that it drowned out any potential spice or flavor. * The mussels tasted off, almost as if they weren't fresh. * The branzino tacos, which came highly recommended, were a disappointment. The fish was overcooked, and the tacos were smothered in a slaw that lacked any seasoning or balance. We travel often, dine globally, and cook at a high level ourselves--so we're not new to flavor. And unfortunately, there just wasn't any excitement or finesse in what we were served. But the real issue was with the drinks. The menu advertises cocktails made with fresh lime juice, grapefruit juice, lemon juice, etc. That's simply not true. When we asked, we were told the bar uses concentrated juice. Why not just say "lime juice" or "lemon juice" on the menu? Why intentionally mislead customers by labeling it fresh? When we raised our concern with the manager, they didn't seem to understand why this was an issue and said that due to the volume of guests, they couldn't possibly use fresh juice. If that's the case, it should be accurately reflected on the menu--because right now, it's misleading. Overall, the experience lacked integrity, both in flavor and in honesty. My waiter soon arrived and poured me some water,returned shortly and took my order.I was impressed. There may have only been one other waiter. However he was still doing things in a timely mannor. Bryan was on top of his game.I settled on beef empanadas and went with the $3 upgrade to have potatoes bravas. The empanadas had a nice flakey crust. The meat was seasoned to perfection. The potatoes were roasted perfectly. They came with a dipping sauce that was good to also dip the empanadas in as well. The dipping sauce that came with the empanadas was just OK. They do offer the convenience of paying your bill at the table. However they charge a 99 cent fee for that convenience. I opted to just let my waiter process the payment. My boyfriend had discovered this place during a search of where he wanted to celebrate his birthday dinner. Yesterday being his birthday, we came in for our 7:45 reservation. Our Uber drive on the way over was filled with heavy traffic so as our arrival time was being pushed further and further out, my boyfriend called the restaurant to inform them and ask if we were still okay? They assured him we would be good. I believe we ended up arriving about 15 minutes late, but as promised, we were immediately seated. The restaurant still had plenty of tables available which was surprising for a Friday night. However they started filling up a bit while still remaining comfortable. Soon, we were greeted by our lovely server Cameron. He was very welcoming, kind, and an incredible server! Cameron knew the menu up and down, asked us questions, made recommendations, and went above and beyond. He and the entire staff were sensitive to and accommodating of any allergies. My boyfriend doesn't eat meat, and even when the runners dropped off certain items, they told us as they set the plates down (for example, "seafood paella without chorizo"). We felt confident and safe to dine here, and well-taken care of by everybody. For drinks: I had the Avocado Margarita, my boyfriend's mother had the Patasola, and my boyfriend had the Amor Latino. We each enjoyed our drinks! I tried a sip of everybody's and I'd say mine was my favorite, followed my my boyfriend's mother's selection, and then my boyfriend's. For food: we shared several delicious dishes! Our group favorite was the fried manchego. For something so simple, it's so tasty! The pomegranate sauce for dipping was the perfect combo. Another favorite of mine was the toro guacamole. The crispy corn tortillas had a nice saltiness and crunch to them which paired well with the creamy smooth avocado. We also enjoyed the octopus duo. The sauce is great and the octopus had perfect texture. Don't forget to order your paella early because as with every restaurant, it takes time to make. We ordered and enjoyed the seafood paella (minus chorizo). It was filling and delicious! One dish I always get when I see it on the menu is patatas bravas, so of course we got an order of those as well. The sauce on this was enjoyable, but they're not my favorite patatas bravas I've had. I would've liked the potatoes to be crispier. Still, they were really tasty! We also got an order of tostones, which tasted standard to me. There wasn't really much about it that set it apart from anywhere else, but they were good! Least memorable to me for some reason was the Peruvian ceviche. This is not to say that it was bad... it was pretty good--just not great. As a note, it did not taste like the Peruvian ceviche I've had other places. This one is a lot milder. For dessert, we shared the coconut cinco leches cake. It provided a sweet ending for our meal! Finally, the ambiance is enjoyable as well. This restaurant is beautifully decorated with art adorning the walls, an eye-catching big tree in the middle of the restaurant, various decorative vases and such... it's trendy with an upscale feel. This modern Latin restaurant in Midtown is really cute and decorated well. The roll-up garage doors around the bar area, and the greeney on the patio definitely gave me South Beach vibes. The high energy from the employees and the Latin music in the background set the tone for Sunday Brunch. The large steel tree in the middle of the dining area looks like it could withstand a nuclear blast. I think they call it " the tree of life" very cool artwork. A coworker and I shared the paella but honestly 3 people could have shared it comfortably. My bestie was in town and we needed a place to grab dinner. I sent her 3 places that I have never been but want to check out. She picked Alta Toro. Her exact words were, "the food looks amazing! " We arrived at the restaurant around 6:30pm. Note: there is a garage next door to the restaurant. Take your ticket with you for 2 hours of validated parking. When we walked in we were greeted by several staff standing at the host stand. We were asked if we had reservation. I advised that we did not. The host took my phone number and name. A different staff walked us to our table. The ambiance of this restaurant is stellar. It is giving Miami vibes. There is a tree in the center of the restaurant that makes the atmosphere. They also have vibrant artwork throughout the restaurant. Our server was Jennifer and she rocked! I love that she was honest with her opinions on the food. She helped us determine what we should order. We opted for the scallops, octopus, veggie tacos (made with cactus), and the lamb chops. My bestie did order an alcoholic beverage. It was called the EL CODIGO. It was smoked table side . I did taste it, and enjoyed it. The food- the scallops were my favorite. The sauce they were topped on was fantastic. My least favorite- the tacos. The tortilla was so thin that it could not hold all the ingredients making it difficult to eat. The octopus was not the best I have had. I enjoyed the items served with the octopus more than the actual octopus. The lamb chops were decent. The waitress suggested we order them medium rare, but we went with medium. The win for this restaurant is the service is top notch! Everyone provided recommendable service. This is a perfect place for a dinner party of 10 or less. A dinner for 2 or a quick place for a drink and app for 1. The vibes at night are perfect and you can appreciate the art more. So this is a really good vibe kind of situation in midtown. It's on the corner so you really can miss it in this in an area where you can actually bar hop if you wanted to. I actually came to drink so I tried a couple of the margaritas. The avocado margarita was the first on the list. If you're looking at the menu, it's going to be a lot of tequila and vodka and gin, even though they do have a few other things, but it's predominantly tequila for the most part. The next drink they had was smoked, they came and smoked at the table so I'm always a fan of that! It was a smokey mess cow drink, usually I do my smoked old fashions but this was actually a pleasant surprise. If you come at the right time you'll actually get some entertainment too. So just keep that in mind, you may be eating and then they may be doing some type of dance right in front of your table. Which is actually pretty dope. You could get somebody dancing, you can get some music, you can get a fire welder, you can get a whole lot! Again, I only came for drinks really, but people I was with ordered some other stuff so I tried a few things. Out of the brussel sprouts, really good. Had a sleep finish to him. Had a lot of char but not too much to where it's overpowering the sweet flavor. Ordered guacamole, but didn't read the menu. Guacamole here is fried balls of baccamole, not the guacamole dip. You would expect a Latin spot to have chips and salsa come but I guess that's not really the case. So it was interesting but it was still surprise to come out like that lol. I'm not a fan of guacamole but it was actually decent. This spot's in a good area, right on the corner, decent parking if you get there at the right time, I would suggest it. I went to this restaurant this afternoon (Saturday) for their brunch. It did not disappoint. I had the Chilaquiles. I substituted the salsa verde (green and mild) for the salsa borracha sauce (red and spicier) and I was glad I did. It was delicious! I ended up taking half of it home as I have a small stomach. However, it is a good portion. The black beans are served on the side. My husband had the Toro Breakfast Burrito and loved it as well. We sat on the covered patio and it was perfect. Delightful and fun spot for a casual dinner, especially for large groups or chill birthday celebrations! AltaToro serves an array of Latin American tapas, primarily centered around seafood. My favorite had to be their pulpo zaradeado -- the octopus was perfectly tender and springy, and the butternut squash mole and heirloom tomatoes gave the dish a great freshness while still feeling satisfying. I was also a huge fan of their gambas al ajillo, a lovely, flavor-packed shrimp served in a light but well-seasoned lobster stock and with crispy grilled bread. To start, our drinks were very good. For apps, we had the ceviche and the empanadas. Both tasty. The ceviche is non traditional Peruvian inspired ceviche. Wasn't the best we have had, but I would still order it again. For my main, I had the sea bass and it was so flavorful. Would order again. Couldn't turn down the coconut tres leches for dessert. Came in after a long walking tour of Midtown. Already had a meal so I was looking for a drink and a small plate to finish out my evening. I ordered the croquettes which were a much smaller portion size than I would have liked for the cost. The drink I settled on was Amor Latino. The croquettes were small and were not anything like what I expected for taste. The drink looked better than it tasted and was nothing special. To top it off, when the bill came the gratuity was already added (Your Welcome!) I travel and eat out often and I have NEVER had a place charge auto gratuity for one person sitting at a bar. I tip 20% so the bartenders would have got their tip and this encountered would not have left a bad taste in my mouth. Chose this place because of the entertainment. They have live music and a dancer performing on the weekends from 6pm-10pm I believe. Check the website to verify. New restaurant in Midtown that's been open for almost three weeks. Service was a bit slow, quality was okay, and the ambiance was good. We ordered grilled octopus, fried yuca, and seafood paella for two (which takes about 25 minutes). About 15 minutes later, we got our grilled octopus and the fried yuca. The octopus was tasty with a nice presentation. The fried yuca was nice and warm, and the sauce had a nice kick to it. Ten minutes later, a server brought out our seafood paella.
