I was worried this was not going to live up to the hype, but it 100% did. The service was great, took less time than I thought it would, and was just a cool spot to hang out with friends while we ate. We got a whole bird to split between four people, along with a side of chips and esquites. I made tacos out of my quarter thigh/leg, and added rice, beans, pico, and the various salsas on each bite. There was also a steady flow of customers picking up orders inside and at the drive up window. The restaurant itself is clean, and the staff is efficient. We ordered the Whole Bird Combo to go. Finally a Peruvian spot in Atlanta with good vibes and a very simple menu. First off, the rice and beans were very flavorful and the portion size of the meal especially the chicken was generous! While the chicken was somewhat juicy, I expected it to have a bit more flavor (salt) so it was a lil bland and did require salsa or some type of topping. It's decorated really cute inside and you walk right up to place your order. Theres indoor and patio seating as well. The service was good when I went, which was only once. Now the food...cooked to perfection! I mean cooked perfectly it looked absolutely amazing but the flavor was missing for me. This chicken quarter was cooked so beautifully that I ate it jist because of that, but was disappointed that there just wasn't any flavor. I felt tricked. The sides of beans and rice were just ok. I usually never say this about any place but it just wasn't hitting! If that chicken had more seasoning then they would've hit the mark, but unfortunately it didn't do it for me. Pleasantly surprised that we found a parking spot in their small lot, but there's a bit of room and we got lucky! We visited on a Tuesday during dinner hours (around 6:30pm) and it was fairly busy, the line was moving and people were churning in and out, but keep this in mind as it's a pretty popular spot it seems! Inside there are only a few booths, with more seating outside, just prepare as it may be hot in the sun! There are ceilings fans for part of the patio, and some shade umbrellas, but it is hot in the Georgia sun. For drinks, we had the horchata and the agua fresca, both were very good! As a side we ordered chips with guacamole to share, the portion of chips and guacamole was extremely generous and they tasted great and home made. For meals, we both ordered 1/4 dark meals, they come with rice, beans, two tortillas, two sauces, and a pico de gallo. The chicken was delicious--juicy and well seasoned, the sauces both had great flavor and added some heat to the meal, the pico was fresh and bright, the beans perfectly seasoned, rice cooked to perfection and balanced the meal perfectly, and the hand made tortillas are to die for. One guy was manning the online orders and didn't even acknowledge me. There were tons of orders just sitting on their platform and no one calling out the names on the tickets. One guy was just there dancing with his cellphone instead of working. A guy walked in behind me and was immediately attended to, which I thought was odd, but very telling. The girl at the drive through then starts telling me my order will be a few minutes more. I point behind her to the order sitting on the platform with my name on it. She didn't even check for it. We got steak at this chicken restaurant! They're usually closed on Mondays, but they were open on this April Monday with a steak plate special. We waited in line and then for our food for about an hour total, but it was worth it! They were making fresh palomas in the parking lot, which helped with the long line. The food was amazing. I loved the steak (tender and cooked to perfection), the guacamole was to die for, and the rice was soft and a nice compliment. Great quality and taste. Pollo primo is one of my favorite meals to get in Atlanta. Casual, cali-inspired pollo asado chicken shop, most ideal for takeout, this eatery is an absolute must for me whenever I am in town. Located off of Moreland Ave, between Ormewood Park and East Atlanta, the shop is extremely casual, laid back Cali vibes. There is a little indoor seating and more, covered patio seating outside. Note: the AC doesn't work that great inside and while there are fans outside, it's not enough. On a hot day, I'd just purely do takeout here. You order at the counter and their menu is relatively simple: white or dark meat roasted pollo asado chicken in various sizes, saucy pinto beans, rice, chips, salsa, homemade tortillas. The chicken is very good - cooked perfectly with great spices for flavor, but not heat. However, where this restaurant shines most is their sides: soft, made-to-order flour tortillas that you can top with nectar-of-the-gods, drippy, stewed pinto beans. Don't know what makes those beans so incredible (it's probably lard) but they are holy, they are so delicious. The rice is nice, light, jasmine rice lightly dressed with herbs, and the chips are made in house, excellently crunchy and salty. The guacamole and salsas are incredibly fresh tasting. Only the guac is extra - all of the other sides come with a standard meal. It's a significant amount of food for even the half bird meal, so I recommend sharing with friends or planning to save for leftovers (and this reheats so well, an ideal lazy dinner choice!) My perfect order here is to get a half chicken platter, an extra pint of beans, rice, and extra fresh tortillas, some guac and do a little make-your-own taco bar with friends. It's roughly $35-40 and will easily feed 3-4. It's rare to find prices like these with food this good anymore and I love to see it. There are some drink options - with the house made margarita and the frescas being the highlights, featuring just really fresh ingredients and made-in-house instead of from a mix. There's margarita in particular is awesome - limey, fruit forward, not overly sweet, boozy, excellent. There's a dedicated parking lot but it can fill up rather quickly on a busy day. There is easy street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. Easy to order online and just drive up to pick up (they text you when your order is ready & we've never had to wait long.) The ladies who were working in the front of the house were so professional and kind, but the guy in the front was a total jerk last night. He was nice before, but maybe he was having a bad day. When I received my food, I asked if I could order a side of the salsas. He said it was $1, so I handed him my debit card. He then proceeded to hand me a red and green salsa and then a container of pico de gallo (which I don't like). I told him that I only wanted to salas', and he said, "I'm already giving this to you at a discount." I sincerely appreciate the thoughtfulness, but if I'm not going to eat it, I didn't want to accept it. I didn't mention anything about the charge...He then was extremely annoyed and it made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I walked up to a quaint place that reminded me of going into the trailer classroom in elementary school. It was very clean and organized inside and out. Came here after a day at Zoo Atlanta with our toddler. Saw this place and always respect the "only one thing on the menu" confidence, so I was sold. Grabbed it to go for the car (which, in hindsight, probably was a mistake). We ordered two half bird meals, the guac, and some extra salsas. Typically when going for a half chicken, you can likely expect either the leg quarter to be perfect and the breast to be dry, or the breast is perfect but you might call the leg slightly undercooked. Knowing what I was getting into, I asked if I could get two dark portions. The lady at the counter said they don't really do that - I could have gotten creative with the menu and ordered a 1/4 dark plate and an extra quarter, but I just took it for what it was. Reasonably priced for a mountain of food, and out in under 5 minutes. When I opened by box my eyes grew huge - the chicken smelled like my last trip to Mexico City. It was a mountain of beans, rice, extremely well seasoned chicken and some awesome looking flour tortillas. I tore off the leg quarter, and one bite in I knew this was a great decision. The rice was extra fluffy and had a slightly herby, mild, chicken brothy flavor to it. The beans were out of this world - probably some lard, but they were amazing - creamy, slightly peppery and stood out completely on their own. The chicken, deliciously peppery, charred with hints of a salsa macha like rub - was tender and juicy in all the right places. The skin was crispy in some places and shot me straight to Fat Matt's (hey, I know it's not "real" BBQ but when the chicken is charred just right it's out of bounds). Delicious. However after a few bites, I *just ever so slightly* was craving little extra salt. It was almost there, but just shy. However a bite of those heavenly homemade tortilla chips, perfectly salted, quickly remedied this. After I downed the dark portions of the bird, I used my fingers to pull away at the breast, which confirmed my suspicion - it was dry. The juices dripping from the rub and the skin saved the bite, but it was dry and the missing salt was more obvious on a non-crusty bite. However, now I went in for the true play - some torn breast with an even distribution of skin, some guac, some salsa verde and salsa macha - rolled it up in a flour tortilla and took a bite -- totally out of bounds. I smirked, the verde was pleasant and floral and acidic and the macha was straight beautiful heat. The guac is awesome here, with the right balance of acid. The homemade tortillas were some of the best utilitarian flour tortillas (necessary for this kind of meal) I've ever had - with the perfect amount of supportable chew, Bite of rice, bite of beans, shove the roll in my mouth, repeat. Pure bliss. My wife, in the back seat of our Tesla Y with our toddler, hunched over hers constantly questioning the eat in the car decision. Yes, this was a messy affair. So why not 5 stars? I debated this one back and forth in my head, but honestly with just one thing on your menu, it's gotta be a knock out of the park. Half of the chicken was just too dry, and I dare say just slightly under seasoned without that delicious skin to save it - something soaking the chicken in a salt brine could quickly fix. Hot, quick, and delicious food! I loved the well seasoned and crispy chicken skin that shelled their very juicy chicken. Rice was cooked through with texture still and beans were seasoned well also. Came on a Tuesday and it felt like a Friday rush, the crowd speaks for the place. The tortillas were less fluffy as I imagined and more of a naan-like texture. Still yummy, so no complaints. The green sauce had a kick and the brown was reminiscent of a chili adobo sauce; both were really good and accompanied the meal. Even the moody bathroom was cute and on theme with the Mexican flair (the CLAY sink was so cute). Only draw back was that it was hot and humid in there. I woke in the back of the house/kitchen so I get it, but it's nice to enjoy a meal on my day off and not feel like I'm at work. Overall, great experience and I can't wait to revisit. read more
