On a recent family trip to Lisbon,Portugal-I found myself looking for a late night dinner spot after a fun filled day of being a tourist in one of the most beautiful underrated European cities. We jumped on social media, took a look at Yelp and was able to snag a reservation at this truly hidden gem of a restaurant located in the charming Alfama district of the city.
When we arrived for our 930p reservation, there was a line of people at the door, which honestly made me feel pretty good about our restaurant choice, especially for a random Wednesday night.Upon checking in we were told there would be a small wait, which ended up being about 30 minutes past our reservation, but considering how small the restaurant was and how busy it was inside, was totally understandable.
Walking in,you can instantly tell someone really put some thought into the decor,it was definitely not traditional but was super cute, one would be hard pressed to find another restaurant with decor like this.I don't want to spoil it with too many details, but just trust me,it's pretty cool in there.
I found in Lisbon,a lot of the restaurants had limited menus, especially late night spots and this place was no different, but we did end up going with an appetizer a dish called Bread in the Wood Oven(€15) and Pork Cheeks over Mashed Potatoes (€16) and House wine(€5).Both dishes were pretty incredible and I wouldn't hesitate to order either one again, but the true star was that appetizer. It was a sourdough bread bowl filled with Chorizo and cheese and some sort of wine sauce and it was cooked in the on-site pizza oven-it was served to the table piping hot and when spread on the sourdough bread pieces,it was delicious-truly one of the best bites I had in Portugal.
In closing,if u find yourself in Lisbon and looking for a truly unique dining experience with new takes on Portuguese flavors-Don't hesitate to try and snag a table at this restaurant-you won't regret it.
PS...If going to this restaurant be sure to either grab an Uber or a taxi as this location is pretty much located at the highest point in the city-a very tough walk. read more
