The service was extremely friendly and fast! It was cold and windy for dinner so they offered us blankets. We were also given muscatel after our meal on the house which was amazing. We ordered Mediterranean eggs, mushrooms, tuna samosas, cod cakes, and bread. Everything was very good, my favorite was the mushrooms. The Not Even a Crumb cocktail was so good, it has cookie crumbs and a cheesecake-like foam on top. The Porto tonico was really refreshing and good too.

While taking a stroll, I happened to come across Can the Can and decided to sit outside for lunch. It's not my top choice for Portuguese cuisine, but it was a decent experience. I started with the canned sardines in brine, which were flavorful, though the bread served underneath didn't quite hit the mark. The grilled calamari, unfortunately, was a bit chewy. For the main course, I had spaghetti with sardines, which was enjoyable, and paired it with a side of grilled vegetables. Overall, it was an average meal--not something I'd recommend or revisit.

One of the best meals in Lisbon Will try again when we are back there.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Oven baked octopus.

Excellent seafood. I had the oven baked octopus and my wife the tiger prawn Caesar salad. Both were excellent. Our waiters were great - attentive without crowding you. They also had a sense of humour, which I appreciate. Good seafood with a modern, cutting edge. Disappointed to have only discovered it on our last night or else we would be back.

This was our first dinner in Lisboa. We were just walking around then got caught in the rain, so we decided to get something to eat. I love tapas, so we decided on this place because I have shellfish allergy. We got the hummus, but I didn't like the seeded bread they served with it. It was dense and tough, not like any pita I've had before. We got the marinated tuna which was tasty and melted in my mouth. We also got the cod fritters. They were tasty but nothing special. Last but not least we had the guacamole. It was very creamy and delicious, but they served it with what I think were lentil chips that were very fragile. We tried the white and the read sangria and I like the red better.

I'm in Lisbon for the first time. Walking around touring and wanted to eat and have some beer. The server was wonderful! She helped me choose a sampler with different local options to try. The view overlooking the water and the bridge was excellent. I recommend Can the Can for a great Meal with a great view.

We decided on eating here because it was one of the few places that offered traditional canned fish on the menu. Honestly, the food was so delicious at lunch we came back a second time for dinner. Service (Elsa) was also top notch and the music and ambience was first rate. Can't recommend can the can enough. Please try it. Oh and the cocktails were heavenly. I drank way more than I usually do. Simply delicious.

I must say, this place blew me away! Every single dish we tried was absolutely divine! The octopus was cooked perfectly, you could cut it with your fork. I am NOT, absolutely NOT a sardine person, but the bruschetta with sardines was so tasty, I would definitely eat it again! (Yeah, i said it). The location is great, which is located in Rossio square and it's next to the ocean front. Why wouldn't you stop by and try it! I definitely recommend giving this place a shot!

We went here for a few drinks and something light to eat before dinner. We arrived at around 6.30pm in a Saturday evening. The server helped us choose a seat by a heater, which was appreciated. We had some olives, the cod cakes, sardines, and the cheese and meat platter. The food was quite tasty, all in all, especially the sardines. It wasn't busy or loud and it was just what we were looking for. It's a nice place to visit for a light snack and a drink

A tad pricey but the food is delicious! We got 2 main dishes, the octopus and the cod, both of which were super yummy. They were both served with potatoes- the cod had some spinach and caramelized onions which were so flavorful in addition to the fish. We had been craving octopus and it was cooked beautifully. It's located right on Praça do Comércio which makes sense why it's a bit pricier than some other local restaurants. We sat outside and enjoyed the view! Would recommend this place if you're in the area and just want to grab a yummy meal!

    My wonderful Avacado toast.

We had a great breakfast and even better service for our first meal in Lisbon, Portugal. Top notch view of the ocean for this breakfast. I will come back to this establishment simply because of the service I received. Let me leave no doubt that the food was superb too. The Avacado toast with fried eggs was on point.

Wow! The best octopus we had in Lisboa. The food was amazing. But even better then the food was sitting outside while the sun started to set people watching with yummy wine and food. Definitely recommended.

We were so glad we went, it was an outstanding meal. The restaurant is not large and mainly has seating for 2. Other reviews complained about waits, but it would be worth it. We ate early and were lucky to arrive when another couple was leaving. Service was quick and very friendly--and like many places here they spoke good English. They do not have a wide drink list, but we had a bottle of the house wine that was really good and complemented food perfectly. For appetizers, we had bread basket, miss cheese, and the caprese. Get the bread basket if you get either. I had not heard of that cheese but it was great, semi-soft with a nice flavor. The caprese salad was nice also, fresh tomato's and mint as opposed to basil. For the main course, I had the seafood paella that was served in a hot pan right from the stove. This was excellent with rich saffron flavor and a nice mix is seafood--the calamari and mussels were particularly good. I loved it. With the said, my wife's sea bass might have been better. The whole fish was served, nice and fresh. It was cooked and flavored absolutely perfectly. The skin was crisp while the fish was moist and just melted in your mouth. Completely wonderful. It came with potatoes and some steamed vegetables, a superb dish. Definitely worth a visit!

Once admitted we were seated immediately as the restaurant was only about half full. The menu was quite simple with just half a dozen appetizers and their main dish, seafood rice served for 1 or 2 people. The rice took about half an hour to prepare. It was delivered still bubbling a bit. The red tomato based soup was full of rice, mussels (some in the half shell), whole shrimp and not quite half a crab. The restaurant provided a shell cracker but the tiny forks for removing the crab meat from the leg would've been quite helpful. The rich tomato soup was the best seafood rice from our trip. We were also given a bottle of piri piri sauce and used about 4-5 drops at a time to add a little bit of heat and flavors to the seafood rice.

(FYI: lots of tourists) They only have 1 main which is their signature dish, the seafood rice. The rice is cooked in a seafood broth with a good mixture of shellfish like mussels, crab and shrimp. You can add lobster at an extra charge. This dish reminds me of paella, but with more soup? We didn't really get any appetizers but they do have a small selection if you want to add more to your meal. We had 3 people and ordered one main for the table. My husband is not the biggest seafood person so it was enough but if you have big eaters, then consider getting apps. The place is kinda small and cozy but not overly crammed together. The staff was efficient and warned me ahead of time how long it would take to make the dish.

We visited Lisbon August 2025 and I have been meaning to catch up on reviews and wanted to shine a…read morevery positive light on this place for sure. We wanted Portugese food at a "nice, semi-formal sit down place". Gambrinus looked to tick all the marks - we walked there and found the place quickly - very charming storefront. You walk in past the bar room which is very quaint and semi-supperclub formal. We got to the maî·tre and were seated in the very charming formal dining room. There is a reserved elegance of this place that makes it feel as if it's been there for 50 or 100 years - wonderful classic decor. The staff are all in formal attire - striking all the vibes of a late 1950's American SupperClub in Portugal. And to our glee - this is indeed what this place is! We were served our starter drinks while we reviewed the menu options; our "formal, main waiter" who is in the most formal attire walked us patiently through the options (we are new to Portugese food) and he made a number of excellent suggestions. Our starter course arrived, shrimp flambe, which was made table side and served - hinted at what was to come. We were amazed at the showmanship of the staff - very formal but friendly and in a way comical. As we awaited the mains, a table near us ordered something also flambe'd crêpes. But it was the SHOW that was special. They brought out the cooking stuff, and the waiter arrived and put on a literal magic show - acting like he had the fire in his hands - he would release the flames into the crêpes and then capture them back in his hand and the flames were gone. The table that ordered them were delighed, and we also enjoyed the show. Our main order did not disappont and hit all the marks. We had an after dinner desert and drinks, then a coffee. The price is not inexpensive; the food and entertainment makes this place five stars. If you are in Lisbon and want to have a "formal" feeling dinner that is classic and entertaining - go here for sure. It's delightful, fun, and worth every penny!

The entrance is inconspicuous, red door no flashy menus posted outside or a person trying to get you to come inside like all the other places on the street - that feels like South beach Miami. The price was more than we have usually been paying around town, almost double but I was kinda expecting that when we walked in. If you want a nice quiet classy sit down place with great service away from the chaos happening outside then this is the place.
