When I first found the Alt Eats Instagram, I was so excited - a vegan cafe here in the suburbs sounded like a godsend! And everything looked so fabulous! But sadly, after giving the cafe several opportunities to prove themselves, I have been consistently disappointed. The owner has clearly mistaken kitsch for quality - the food isn't bad, per se, but it's kind of ho-hum and flavorless, and why would I pay $10 for some mashed avocado on toast that I could literally make for pennies at home?? Just so I can eat off a cute plate? No, thanks. They seem to like to put an arugula "salad" with most of their dishes, but it's actually just arugula and olive oil - slimy and flavorless, and further proof that they are NOT worth the astronomical prices - everything is very showy and flashy but the actual quality is pathetic. I know a previous review mentioned that vegetarian food is typically expensive, and I do understand the upcharge for the vegan options, but the base prices for the non-vegan options are so obscene that paying for the vegan alternatives is absurd. Their branding is also completely misleading! They tout themselves as "fresh" and "botanical" and heavily imply that they are a healthy option, but their dishes aren't exceptionally good for you, and their ingredients aren't of any exceptional quality. In fact, despite the hydrogenated oils found in Skippy peanut butter, that's what they use in all of their PB+J items - when I first tried the shop, they had a giant jar on the shelf that they'd placed a sticker on to "hide" the label, but there's no mistaking Skippy's aquamarine lid. How can they call themselves innovative and "botanical" when they can't be bothered to research truly healthy alternatives to their most-used ingredients? Bottom line: the prices are downright laughable for the quality of the product you're getting. It's all flash and no substance. read more

I can't say enough good things about this new cafe! I've stopped here for breakfast two times already, and the staff was courteous and incredibly friendly. It's a pretty new place, and I was impressed by their wonderful service for a small cafe in it's infancy. They were knowledgeable on the menu which is key for me because of some dietary restrictions. The first time I went I had one of the shiitake oatmeal breakfast braid and it was phenomenal. I recently tried the oatmeal breakfast combo and it was fantastic. I can't wait to stop in next for lunch soon and try some of their sandwiches, salads or avocado toast. Overall, fantastic & welcomed new addition to the community. read more

Went here today and it's super aesthetic! I had an avocado toast that felt like it took forever to make but when it came out it was more avocado than I was expecting! I also had a gluten free cookie which was so delicious I wanted more! I'll definitely be back! I wanted to love this place but left severely underwhelmed. Came for an anniversary lunch date. The ambiance and decor is cute, but that's where the good stuff stopped. I got the all American avo toast, fiancé had the Stromboli and we shared buffalo Mac and cheese. Avo toast was fine, but severly needed seasoning. Everything looked as if i could have made it myself in 5 mins and I'm not the best cook. No love in the food. The Stromboli was SO SMALL a quarter piece of a real Stromboli, and it was taken from a covered plate by the register and looked like it was 3 days old. The buffalo Mac and cheese looked like 99 cent pasta with ZERO CHEESE?!?! And massive chunks of buffalo flavored tofu with buffalo sauce sloppily put on top. There was literally no cheese on it. So confusing. To top it off this place isn't cheap either. Trust me, save your money and support a place that actually cares about their food and puts love into it, this place isn't it. read more

Love love love! Been here a few times and have never been disappointed. My favorites are the mint lemonade and tuna salad on a toasted pretzel roll. They also serve vegan cupcakes which are better than any cupcake i have eaten, super moist and delicious! Preface for review: I love well done vegan food. My favorite restaurant in the whole world is a vegan restaurant. It was unclear that the food was all vegan. Also when I ordered a frittata I didn't think it would be a 1.25 in diameter mini frittata. Also said frittata was not made with eggs...because you know vegans. Cozy, chic space. Tulum Tostada was great and exactly what I expected from the description. If I had to make a suggestion- a little salt + pepper would have been great but they had shakers on the table so easy enough to season to taste. The arugula salad was an added bonus that I didn't expect as it wasn't mentioned on the menu. Service was friendly but a little on the slower side so wouldn't go here if you're in a rush but was great for a leisurely lunch and love that they have tables outside. Great addition to the area. Let me start off by saying that this place is really trendy and cute! Unfortunately, trendy and cute don't = great food. I came across alt eats on Instagram and since my daughter who is 4 is vegan and I'm transitioning I was happy when I heard a place not to far from me was opening and was vegan / vegetarian. I kept checking the menu hoping to be enticed but I wasn't. All I saw was extremely over priced food for what they were serving. Pb and j for about $9? What ? Anyways , I finally decided to stop by. I ordered the tuna sandwich which was actually pretty decent. I wasn't crazy about the salads on the side and neither was my daughter and that's pretty much all she chooses to eat. It's tossed in olive oil it seems but really doesn't have flavor. They should toss it in a vinaigrette or at least offer a dressing . My daughter had the tostadas on blue corn chips. It was literally a plate with the big bland salad in the middle , about 6 small tostadas topped with avocado and these delicious mini peppers. Aside from the peppers there was no taste. No salt , pepper even some lime. Nothing. Why am I paying almost $10 for avocado slabbed on baby corn chips? We also then ordered the zucchini pinwheel. I saw this on their instagram and was hoping to try the shiitake but they were out. Save your self the $9 and get something else. There was no flavor at all and of course it had that same bland salad on the side. I had a turmeric milk which was also bland. Needed cinnamon and some ginger. Before we left we ordered a cupcake and that was actually very good. For a vegan cupcake it was super moist and yummy! I'm not really sure where the owner or chef gets there inspiration from but it can't possibly be what they say on their website. When you travel to the places they mention you experience FLAVOR! this place just didn't do it for us. They're very creative in the names and design but it fell flat. What also is crazy to me is that they market as a vegan/ vegetarian place but have yogurts and coffees ect ect . They are all made with regular cows milk which is fine but I think instead of up charging for the plant based milks I think it should be the other way around. All food comes with plant based foods and if you feel inclined to have dairy pay the up charge. With the prices it's not like they can't do that as is. I probably wouldnt return until they tweak a few things first and add more flavor . All this place needs is FLAVOR. when your asking for $10 a plate for small bland portions it's asking for people not to return. read more
