The front counter service was extremely disappointing. I stopped in for lunch today for the first time because I wanted to give this place a try. After walking in, I stood at the counter for more than five minutes without being acknowledged. The employee working the register looked in my direction multiple times but never greeted me or even said, "I'll be with you in a moment." Instead, she continued having a personal conversation with a couple who had already placed their order. After waiting several minutes with no acknowledgment whatsoever, I decided to leave and spend my money elsewhere. Ironically, as I was walking out the door, she finally said, "Oh, I'll be with you in a minute." At that point, it was too late. A simple greeting or acknowledgment would have gone a long way. Kind of disappointing... Me and a friend decided to eat here just at random. The day we came in may have just been a bad day for them because tables were dirty, they didn't have chicken, they said the sodas didn't need to be changed but they tasted awful. We walked in and was uncertain if the restaurant was closed because there were not many customers we were told to sit anywhere we wanted we chose a window view seat. The space was small. Super disappointed my husband and I placed an order tonight at 8:26pm through DoorDash and at 10:18pm had to call a quits after our DoorDash order was preparing on the app though the restaurant worker Gabrielle said they didn't see and she had stepped out the restaurant at the time and the order would be placed immediately and then their in house delivery drivers (who also deliver for DoorDash?) had multiple orders ahead of me and that's why another lengthy amount of time went by .. I give a call cause no update on DoorDash app... another 30 minutes went by and nothing. She is 88 having surgery on a hip and having need to have some thing to take things of her mind, Janet, and Daniel were wonderful my mother was so happy and Daniel delivered to my mom and took a pic of her because I a 1000 miles away and sent it to me. She loved their food and I will order 1000 miles away anytime again for my mom from them. She has recovered from her surgery 88 years old and will live by herself once again. I've come to this location multiple times, they are good for to-gos but bad for regular service. Every time I come in they are empty. I came in to order dough to go and grab a beer and bite to eat while I waited. When I sat down it took about 7 minutes for the host to acknowledge me. Then another 5 for a sever/bartender to come by. I ordered the Antipasto salad and the Sam Adams Winter Lager. Both were very good. Sadly the service here was sub par. The hostess was on her phone taking selfies ignoring customers. Chain pizza at its finest. I ordered my meal to go since this is Pandemic times. The ordering process was actually pretty great and easy. All online, and then a timers told me when it pick it up. I ordered the Pesto Cheese Bread and the Greek pizza. My pesto cheese bread was something I could have made at home. The bread itself was deflated and so crunchy it was ripping my mouth. The whole thing tasted like it had been sitting around for a while. The pizza itself was so boring. There were like, 5 kalamata olives on it (one for each slice) and the crust tastes like the pizza crust from my first grade cafeteria. It's very average pizza. Al's Pizza does seem to be slipping as other reviewers have noted but Grub Hub is mostly the culprit. Our food was delivered earlier than the estimate, but the hot foods were stone cold. This is probably because GrubHub does not have enough delivery people and they're holding orders too long before they pile them all in a car and have their short staffed delivery people dash all over town. We reheated the whole pizza and it was delicious. The zucchini fingers not so much because this dish was not well prepared in the first place. The sticks should be much thicker and the cost of this dish is outrageous for the paltry proportion you get. The bruschetta was lukewarm because it was in the same bag for too long with the hot stuff. The bruschetta is not good at all. The tomato is swimming in liquid and is typically packaged in a dish that's too big for it and slogs around during the delivery process. The tomatoes need to be salted and completely drained for at least an hour after they are diced, but before the other ingredients are added. It's obviously not happening but the recipe itself also isn't good and the bread that comes with it has too much butter on it and is not crisp enough. This dish is also too expensive for the quality and quantity. Al's should take it off the menu. Al's is trying to do too much with its menu now, the dishes are too expensive and their delivery provider is failing. Their head chef needs to look at the whole menu and improve or eliminate some of the menu items. The on line ordering system is awesome! read more

I've had takeout from Al's many times but this was the first occasion that I've dined inside. The place is clean and the workers are friendly. The salads here are always generous and fresh. I always forget to take a picture, but they're good. This particular time, my friend ordered a slice of cheese pizza with added veggies along with a side salad. The slice was large and quite generous with the cheese and veggies. I had the Florentine (spinach) Stuffed Shells. They were very good, nice mix of ricotta and mozzarella. Lunch portion was just the right size along with the side salad. It's located on the corner of Oak and Margaret Streets in 5 Points/Riverside. During busy times, there will be a parking lot guard sitting behind the restaurant's strip. Not sure what he does other than glare at people. One oddity - not their fault - some handicapped spots are behind the restaurant, but if you knock loud on the back door, they will answer and let you in that way. Al's Veggie Submarine is the BOMB. My boy really enjoys their pizza and meatball sub. The flatbread is a nice choice as well - particularly the Buffalo chicken one. Very, very tasty. Definitely do the blue cheese to dip. I love that they have outside seating and a pretty good happy hour on Thursdays. Al's is a pretty solid place for good food and I'm sure anyone can find something on the menu to satisfy their craving. It was so good I ate it too fast..LOL. Since I had to spend $10 for delivery I also ordered a Homemade Garlic & Parm Cheese Pretzel.
