Service with a smile- sat in dining room instead of the bar area. The ambiance is good for both intimate dining, and casual dining. The dining room is so quainte, clea, decorated beautifully, and has a large seating capacity. The restrooms are modern, and beautiful. Delish dishes!!!!! Flavor umami Complimentary bread...I recommend adding the olive oil at the table to your bread. . Mua! Chefs kiss indeed! The cherry bombs stuffed w prosciutto and mozzarella have heat, but the ingredients make you goibg back for more. And more. My mouth is burning but im so happy w the flavor combination. Highly recommend!!!!! Food... i did ask for extra garlic bit didnt notice any in my dish. I am a garlic-holic. Only neg was asking for more water and finding that our waitress was sitting down chatting w a young couple in the booth along w2 other waitresses. I wanted tiramisu for desert but our bill arrived and as I went to ask about one to go [815pm] it was being carried to the kitchen. [I cry] Those were the only negatives. Other than that, Mario has a gorgeous, well run establishment. I live 40min away so I will visit the next time im over this way so my spouse can tey your amazing homemade lemoncello.

The first time I've come here for an actual meal (rather than just a seat at the bar with maybe a snack) and I enjoyed it! We came for a birthday dinner. I had the very simple rigatoni bolognese. Pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente and the sauce was really good. It was a little on the sweet side for me, but tasted pretty fresh! They also brought us out an "on the house" mushroom appetizer that was delicious. If you like mushrooms, get it! I also sampled the lobster ravioli (on special) and enjoyed it. I am not a huge lobster anything fan, but even I thought it was pretty good! I also had a glass of the house red wine blend they have and that was one of the best house wines I've had in a long time! Super smooth. Teeniest bit sweet. No aftertaste at all. The service was wonderful. Our waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable and just generally great. I had only sat in the bar area previously and thought it could get a little loud but I felt less so about the restaurant itself. The tables are nicely spaced from each other so you have your privacy. My only complaint (and not really a complaint a just a warning so no one is surprised if it comes up... ) is that they charge a $30 cake fee if you bring your own cake. It's just a little bit of a bummer, but I totally understand why. They were super polite about it when I called. Anyhow... food and service was great. Would go again!

We went here for Valentine's Day! Aside from being BEAUTIFUL inside, the food is definitely top tier! The fact that they have FRESH handmade pasta easily makes this one of the best italian restaurants in Jax/St. John's! The hostess and server were both so sweet and really made the night feel special. We enjoyed their stuffed shells and seafood pasta very much! I can't wait to go back and try new dishes! Perfect for a date night!

Food was great and service was exceptional as always! My girlfriend's and I had a wonderful experience last night celebrating my birthday. The ambiance sets the mood for great conversation over delicious drinks, crunchy bread with house made butter that tastes like heaven & the main course did not disappoint. I highly recommend it if you're craving authentic Italian food!

We decided to go here for our anniversary dinner. We usually are out of town so I chose to come here since it's been on my radar. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The ambiance here did not give anniversary dinner. We had to sit next to the window so the view is the shopping plaza. The food was pretty good, but the pistachio martini was the star of the night. This is the best martini I've had. I'm not sure I would go back since it's a drive for me, but I was happy at the end of the evening.

We really enjoyed our visit. The ambiance was great and the restaurant was very clean. Our server, one of the owners' children, was so friendly and made the experience feel welcoming. The bread wasn't my personal favorite since I usually prefer warm bread with oil and vinegar, and this was served room‑temperature with butter. My entrée (Chicken Alla Toscana - pictured) was delicious, though I did add a little salt and crushed red pepper to suit my taste. Dessert was very good as well; the Italian cream cake was yummy, though the almond extract flavor was a bit strong for me. Overall, a lovely experience and I would happily return.

We visited Trattoria a few days after they just opened. Inside was massive! Lots of tables and private area. I like the interior designs too! However, I was a bit disappointed, there was no complementary bread, portions were small, slow service, etc. But it did not deter me to come back and try them again as I know those things are part of opening a new restaurant and they probably got feedbacks from other customers as well, because a lot has changed when we had dinner here last Friday! We were greeted warmly and seated right away. It was still happy hour so I ordered an espresso martini, it was good! I like the contrast of the strong coffee and the creaminess of the drink. And yes, they now serve complementary bread made fresh in-house! I loved it! It's like a baguette but more dense on the inside. Sadly, my husband can do without it lol, but more for me! For this visit, I ordered the Bolognese, I substituted the rigatoni to tagliatelle pasta for an extra $2, and it was tasty! My husband got the Spaghetti Pomodoro with an additional meatballs. I liked it even better than my order, although they served it with a thinner spaghetti, it seems like an angel hair pasta. Nevertheless, we both prefer the pomodoro sauce, it was delicious! We ended the night with a satisfying cappuccino. Overall, we had a great time and will definitely be back!!

YUMMMMMYYY I'm not the biggest fan of italian cuisine but i must say this place has changed my mind. It's family ran and owned ! Beautifully authentic. The decor is really nice and they have italian covers of songs you will know. My girlfriend and I made plans to come for lunch as soon as the restaurant was opened. Laura (the woman in charge!) did us the honor of coming over to our table and chatting with us! The ingredients are amazing. They source their flour from Italy! It's the real deal! It's used in everything from their pasta to their bread and the crust of the pizza ! Fresh bread is brought to the table with a herby butter. I asked for a side of the blue cheese vinaigrette to dip in as well... tehe. I'm also the biggest fan of the pizza!!! Perfect combination of sweet and savory cheesy. Green onion was such an unexpected addition to top it off. The pasta is the best! Cooked perfectly! No soggy pasta here! I'm so happy to call this our local Italian place. We're already got our hearts set on what to order next time we dine in !

Stopped in for appetizers and a glass of wine during happy hour and was greeted by smiling faces of Service staff, delicious food and a great ambiance for a nice happy hour. Bummed we weren't staying for dinner because their food is incredible! Definitely recommend if you haven't been by for authentic Italian food locally.

So so so yummy!! Amazing quality, fresh food! Everything here is homemade and you can tell! The bread is a great texture, pasta is perfectly cooked! The vodka sauce is delicious and the homemade sausage in there was too! They used big, succulent shrimp! Loved the pizza so so much! It is such a great combo of flavors and the crust is perfect!! Drinks here are fantastic, the espresso martini was a favorite! The service was great! Our server was attentive and quick! We went at a slow time and one of the owners, Laura came by and chatted with us for a few minutes which was very nice! It is a gorgeous restaurant with a very classy ambiance!! Perfect for a date night! I will definitely be back to try more menu options; there is so much I want to try!

Greeted promptly, was seated with a reservation for 5 at 6:45pm. Immediately asked what we wanted to drink and a warm bread basket was immediately brought out with oil and vinegar dipping. The bread is delicious! The service was prompt and always were there to serve us. We tried a smaller sample of the Cheese Pasta bowl to share with our table. It looked really rich to eat as an entree but it was a delicious side appetizer dish. Very fresh noodles in that melted creamy cheese. Delicious! And also 2 side dishes of the fried Potato Croquette's. Comes with marinara dipping sauce. Delicious! I tried the Ultimate Chicken Vodka Parm with spicy Penne noodles. The fried chicken was cooked perfectly but I wasn't a great fan of the Vodka sauce on the Parm, but I wanted to try something different. It was still good just not my favorite. We also got a picture of Red Sangria. I also wasn't a fan of Sangria a little less sweet than I'm used to. It was okay. Overall we had a great time and the food was very fresh and I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone to try. Just not in our neighborhood to come back on a regular basis since we live near the Jacksonville Airport.

There are certain moments during a meal when you taste something and immediately have to stop and…read moreask, "What did the chef do differently here?" That happened to us at Al Dente's in St. Johns when we tasted the sauce accompanying their short ribs. We have eaten at Al Dente's many times, so we weren't discovering the restaurant for the first time. It has already earned a place among our favorite local restaurants. But on this visit, we came in for a full Culinary Duo review, and the kitchen prepared a tasting that went well beyond what we expected. And somehow, a restaurant we already knew managed to surprise us all over again. We started with the calamari, which is noticeably different from the traditional calamari plate. Al Dente's uses the prime rings without the tentacles, then sautés them with sliced peppers. The result is tender, flavorful calamari with a cleaner and more consistent bite from beginning to end. We were told that when the calamari is featured during happy hour, it can sell out. After tasting it, we understand why. The quality of the calamari and the simplicity of the preparation allow the seafood to remain the focus of the dish. It impressed us enough to earn one of our Culinary Duo Best of the Best Dish Awards. The gnocchi is another longtime favorite and Best of the Best winner. Al Dente's sautés it and finishes it with a white wine bath, creating the texture that has kept us coming back for it over the years. It is a great example of how a little extra technique can make a familiar Italian dish memorable. Then came the dish that may have surprised us the most, the short ribs. We will admit that short ribs are not normally something we get particularly excited about. Too often, the meat is served with too little sauce, leaving you wishing there was something more to bring the entire plate together. Al Dente's completely changed that for us. The beef was exceptionally tender and practically fell apart. But it was the sauce that immediately caught our attention. It had a wonderful subtle sweetness that was different enough that we had to ask what the kitchen was doing. The answer was port. Using port gives the mushroom sauce a slightly sweeter, richer character that works beautifully with the beef. Add decadent mashed potatoes loaded with butter, garlic, and herbs, and you have the kind of comfort food that makes you want to slow down and enjoy every bite. Sautéed zucchini and yellow squash added freshness and helped balance the richness of the plate. The short ribs became our third Best of the Best selection from Al Dente's. Next came the salmon with lobster ravioli, and this was another example of the kitchen going beyond what was necessary. The salmon was a substantial, thick cut, beautifully cooked, moist, and wonderfully tender. It was paired with lobster ravioli and a wine sauce, which would have made a very good dish by itself. But they didn't stop there. They added actual chunks of lobster claw meat over the salmon and ravioli. We love that. If you are going to serve lobster ravioli, there is something special about seeing and tasting real pieces of lobster on the plate as well. It reinforces the featured ingredient and turns what could have been a familiar seafood pasta combination into something much more memorable. The beef tenderloin medallions followed, accompanied by seasonal vegetables and a white truffle mushroom risotto that deserves almost as much attention as the beef. The risotto combined mushrooms, cream, Parmesan, truffles, and white truffle oil, creating a rich, earthy flavor that complemented the tenderloin beautifully. Risotto can easily become an obligatory side dish, but this one was clearly treated as an important part of the plate. Creamy, savory, and full of truffle character, it was an excellent partner for the medallions. One thing we particularly enjoy about Al Dente's is that the tenderloin is offered as a nightly special and the preparation can change. Guests may encounter different interpretations, including Gorgonzola, Marsala, or au poivre. For regular diners like us, that flexibility makes returning a little more interesting because there can always be something different coming out of the kitchen. By this point, we thought the meal was finished. Then the chef surprised us with a Dubai chocolate pistachio tart. It arrived beautifully plated with chocolate drizzle and whipped cream. This is definitely a dessert for anyone who loves rich flavors. A few bites were enough for us because it was incredibly decadent, but the combination of pistachio and dark chocolate was fantastic. It was a fitting ending to an impressive tasting. What stayed with us most about this visit was not simply one great plate. It was the consistency across the entire meal. The calamari showed how ingredient selection can change a familiar appetizer. The gnocchi demonstrated technique. The short ribs showed how one thoughtful change to a sauce can comp

This was our second time at House Italian and the first thing we noticed we that they've expanded to double the size the from our last visit. We started with the Meatball Appetizer this time and liked it a lot. We like their sauce and the fact that it wasn't buried in too much cheese. We both got to pick starters with our meals as well. I went with the Lemon Chicken Soup which I had last time. I'm not a big lemon fan but it's not overpowering in this soup, it's more like a hint which is why I had it again. My wife loved the dressing on their house salad last time, so she went with that again too. You get garlic bread with your meal and yes, it tastes every bit as good as it looks in the photo I took. I picked the Seafood Over Linguini for my entree. Again, the lemon aspect of the butter sauce wasn't overpowering which is great. There was a LOT of seafood, just like the seafood risotto I had last time and the noodles were cooked perfectly. In short, I'm going to have a hard time moving away from their seafood offerings. My wife had their Chicken Francese last time and absolutely loved it. She wanted to try something else this time she so went with Chicken Scampi. It was as good as she hoped. She didn't give me specifics but she did say "oh that's the stuff" a lot from the first bite on lol. A couple of other things are worth note: first, we got there at 5:30 and even with the expansion, they were PACKED. We felt pretty fortunate to get the literal last available booth. I rarely recommend this but if you're going to go try them, I'd strongly recommend reservations for your first time. Just to make sure you don't show up at the wrong time and end up with a long wait because their word of mouth is so strong. Last but not least, shout out to Waldi, our server. He greeted us at the counter with a smile,, sat us, then became our server too. He was taking care of us, other tables, handling carry out orders and probably other stuff I didn't see. And the dude was smiling the whole time to top it off!

It was hard to explain what I meant to my husband until he tried it and he ended up liking my lasagna more than the calzone he ordered! You can tell they make everything from scratch. We also got spaghetti and meatballs to go, and the sauce tasted so fresh. The cannoli was incredible. I used to make cannoli at a bakery years ago, and theirs had the smoothest, creamiest filling I've ever had. The staff was wonderful, and the owner treated us like an old friend. It's a modest size restaurant with good seating but limited parking, and it's always busy for a good reason. We'll definitely be back!

Valentina's served the best and largest arancini I've enjoyed since I left Sicily 30 years ago! (You can rarely find good arancini in the States and, when you can find them, they're often the size of ping pong balls. Imposters!) The lasagna bolognese was creamy and scrumptious. The chicken piccata was swimming with pungent, juicy capers in a white wine cream sauce. Valentina's was strongly recommended to us by family that live in the area. We were delighted with our meal. (And our leftovers!)

It definitely lived up to our expectations! The beef was juicy, the portions were huge, and the bread was soft! It was delicious! We also tried the DDD aka Derita Deli Deluxe which is one of their Chicken Cutlet Sandwiches. It includes eggplant, prosciutto de Parma, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, broccoli rabe, long hot peppers, and balsamic glaze. Phew! Tons of ingredients, I liked it but it lacks seasoning, mainly salt, lol. Overall, we enjoyed both sandwiches and we can't wait to go back and try the other items on their menu.

I just happened to be in the area, decided to stop in, and I'm so glad I did. My order was ready exactly when promised, and from the first bite, it exceeded every expectation. The combination of the crispy chicken cutlet, perfectly cooked eggplant, fresh mozzarella, and broccoli rabe came together in the ultimate flavor combination. Every bite was packed with incredible taste, and all the ingredients worked together perfectly. If you're looking for an authentic, unforgettable sandwich, this is it. I'll definitely be making the drive back for another one.
