Alpenrose is a fun German restaurant in Vail with a cozy, alpine-inspired atmosphere. The outdoor patio is especially cute, and the inside continues the charming German theme. It's a popular spot, so I definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu isn't huge, but it offers a nice selection of traditional German favorites like bratwurst, schnitzel, fondue, and desserts. The food was enjoyable, and it was a fun dining experience, especially if you're looking to try classic German cuisine.
For reference my 5 star experience was in the gondola. Highly recommend doing this though while in Vail! Definitely felt like I was back in a Switzerland ski town! The gondola is cool because we had our own speak to play whatever we pleased! It felt very private and intimate which I really enjoyed. I loved the decor throughout the restaurant and our gondola had cute little touches as well. For example they had a coo coo clock that when off every hour. For drinks I tried their feuerzangenbowle and the muled wine. My husband got a Hugo spritz and jagertee. I loved my drinks the feuerzangenbowle uses flambé which was so cool!, it's pretty similar to the muled wine. Muled wine is always a favorite of mine when the weather gets cold! Our server was awesome and super attentive. He answered any questions we had and was very friendly. The gondolas have a set menu we ended up ordering more that was on the set menu since I wanted fondue and my husband wanted the raclette. We added on a fondue, ordered the raclette that came on our fixed menu and added on steak, along with the pretzel that comes as an appetizer. The food was really good, I think it is also just so cozy and suiting for the cold weather! Fondue and raclette are also just such a fun way to dine! Highly recommend and definitely will be back just to try the standard experience too without the gondola.
This was possibly my favorite restaurant during our recent visit to Vail and Breckenridge! I think I tried to go here last time I was in Vail, but they were booked. Anyway, they specialized in German foods...with this cute, cozy German decor to match. We shared 3 items...Chili Con Carne, this delicious chili soup, which came with 2 pieces of bread; 2 pieces of Rosti, something close to small, meat & veggie-filled pancakes; and their signature item, this Schnitzel "Rockies & Roses", which came with Spatzle. Well, I loved all of it...but guess my favorite was the Schnitzel! Their Pork Schnitzel was much thinner than most...which was awesome. Not only delish, but everything was beautifully presented. Everything---from ambiance to service and food---was stellar. Again, my favorite from all the restaurants we visited. Hope to revisit again!
Seems like we look for these types of places in our ski trips, and this joint looked the part. Promptly seated at a nice table in the quaint and authentically decorated chalet dining room and opted for a German imported brew, which I liked and had several others too! Pretzel was a bit dough-ey for my liking but the cheese & mustard were nice compliments. Schnitzel was large with a crusty coating that held up to the condiments. Couldn't choose from all the desert options so we went with a couple... there was a berry torte that was a bit dry and lacked sweetness. The strudel was nice and came with a vanilla creme sauce that complimented it well. Ambiance was hunting chalet chic, prices are in line with the locale, and service was friendly, prompt, and helpful!
Pretty authentic German experience overall. From the restaurant environment to the servers' outfits, everything really gives you that traditional German feel. We ordered the Munich platter to share, along with a few sausages, soups, and of course, sauerkraut. The food was good overall, and my family really enjoyed the meal, especially getting to try a variety of different dishes together. Personally, I thought it was just okay, but I think that's more because German food isn't really my cup of tea rather than anything being wrong with the food itself. Service was nice, and the atmosphere definitely added to the experience. Overall, a fun place to try if you enjoy German food or want something that feels a little more authentic.
I love a cute experience, and alpenrose vail delivered! Our server was so adorable and accommodating. We did the cheese fondue option and added steak. The meat was super fresh and tender. Nothing comes preseasoned so we did ask for salt and pepper to doctor it up as much as possible. But overall we enjoyed. A round of birthday shots and cake was brought out at the end as a cute cherry on top. I definitely recommend checking them out if in Vail.
I always make sure to order pretzel whenever a restaurant offers it. So far, NBC restaurant in Universal City Walk is one of top 3 that makes good pretzel. Alpenrose isn't too bad. It is a pity that they charge $4 each for dipping sauce. I would've not minded if it was $2 but $4? The place has ample seating and fairly spacious. Didn't order Winter Curry, I had a bit of it from friend's - it was unique taste. If you are looking for a fun shopping experience where a Germany restaurant is nearby in Colorado, give Alpenrose a try.
We have been visiting Vail for the past five years. Every time we are in town, we come to Alpenrose at least 3 times! It's a must when visiting. Smara is the best waitress and she is so attentive! The espresso martini is the best I've ever had.
Adore Alpenrose!! It's like grandma chic to the max with great food and really attentive and friendly service. Also, the food is pretty epic. It's seriously putting the German food to shame where I live (and I thought we had some pretty good options!) We had the: *TRÜFFEL BRATWURST (Pair of delicious Truffle Bratwurst with red cabbage, mashed potatoes and mustard) - Delicious! Great flavor but not overpowering (like how truffle oil can sometimes be!) I really enjoyed their version of red cabbage too. *OKTOBERFEST HAX'N (Crispy Pork shank with fresh baked German pretzel, mustard and Obazda cheese) - this was SO good. So flavorful and juicy. It also came with a FULL SIZE german pretzel, it was awesome. *APFELSTRUDEL (Traditional German apple strudel served with vanilla sauce) - Oh jeez, best apfelstrudel I've had in my life! To note, I haven't been to Germany but my husband's German family makes some pretty solid versions but this was pretty perfect.
The German flair is prevalent throughout Vail but it especially rules at the Alpenrose. Being German, I am very particular about all things Bavarian. I decided on the Gulasch with Spaetzle for dinner. Aside from the expense of the meal, the experience did not disappoint. The food was good, the Radler delish, and service, supreme. Our waiter, Hannes, hailed from Austria so he was able to converse with us and to help my aunt feel comfortable. He was so much fun! Our meals arrived quickly too! Indoor seating is slim pickings but their patio works perfect for this time of year. Restrooms are in the basement and may present a slight challenge for those with mobility issues. Also, since the Alpenrose is located on the Fussgängerzone (pedestrian alley) so there is no parking close by.
Very alive space with German/Austrian feel without being hokey. The staff wear traditional German attire which adds to the overall atmosphere. The large menu gives you a chance to try "the usuals" but also presents some items that may not be as familiar. There is a small selection of German beers on tap as well as some glasses/bottles of various wines. We enjoyed the Schnitzel as well as the Octoberfest Hax'n, which was a gigantic Pork Shank. We added Potatoes Rosti, Red Cabbage and Sauerkraut as sides. Both portions were delicious as well as humongous - either one being enough for 2 people. We were too full to try their delicious looking desserts. Great place to try for an authentic German meal.
Alpenrose is a must while in Vail. Highly recommend making a reservation, especially on the weekends. The ambiance, food, and presentation are so fun! Plenty of choices when it comes to food so they have something for everyone. The prices are very reasonable, and the service is always super friendly and accommodating.
We absolutely loved this quaint little restaurant. It felt like we were in a fairytale sitting outside. Lights and flowers are streamed everywhere, oil burning lamps at the table, and hand net pillows sitting on the back of the benches. This is definitely a place where you wanna sit back and relax and enjoy your food and drink with friends and family. We actually just went for the apple strudel, which was amazing, but I can't wait to go back and try something on their dinner menu

Husband and I made a reservation for Valentines Day in the late afternoon and, as you can imagine, it was extremely crowded. Packed with skiers and tourists alike, yet still had a warm and charming vibe. We were sat in the front dining patio area with heaters all around and an extra large booth just for us two! Loved our experience here and late lunch! I had a delicious hot chocolate. I could not have an alcoholic beverage since I would be driving back to Aspen. My husband indulged in a warm cider. All the food and drinks we ordered or exceptional and perfect. I was pleasantly impressed. Would definitely recommend! read more

The three of us traveled for work extensively in Germany and Switzerland for work. We couldn't wait to relive the hearty food from those days! Alpenrose delivered. We started with the Cheese fondue, adding the apples and plums. Very good! Our waiter, Samuel U, cautioned us when we ordered the pretzel as well that it was the same cheese dip. As cheese lovers, we went ahead. We also shared the Rosti balls, loving the creamy dip as well as the jam. After all that, we shared the Schnitzel entree and an appetizer size of Bratwurst bites. Reviews of the tomato sauce the brat bites were served in were mixed. The schnitzel and lingonberry jam was just as I remember from abroad, so perfectly cooked. After drooling over the dessert case when we entered, dessert was NOT optional. We took a piece of Black Forest cake and mandarin cheesecake home for later. We appreciated the little details, the cute straws, the cow straw toppers, the line come stick topper and the serving cups. We had to buy a mug for each of us as a reminder of our fun and heartwarming meal. read more

Food was spot on, service was attentive and it was a warm and comfortable lunch. We got a variety of foods, and drinks. There is also a "gondola experience" you can book. There are several gondolas outback that you can eat in, but is my understanding that you have to book well in advance. read more

The ambiance is very cozy especially during Ski season. Price is on the higher end since it is in Vail village. Pretzel is the best and other dishes are okay. Overall not a bad choice in Vail. Need to make reservations. read more

How have I not been here before?! Ambiance is perfect, staff are wonderful. Couldn't believe how fast our service was. Yves was a fantastic server and he's from Switzerland! The food was very authentic and extremely delicious. Loved the fondue and schnitzel. Unique plating for several dishes around us that everyone else seemed to be thoroughly enjoying. Can't wait to come back, I'll stop on my drives between denver and other mountain towns just to eat here!!! read more

The food here was good, not great. This is subjective however, as mine and my husbands pallets are not accustomed to German fare, which is more mild in flavor. Being Mexican & Italian, robust flavor is what we're drawn to. We didn't mind not having an outstanding meal, however. Vacationing in a luxury town puts so much pressure on each meal to be spectacular, and at some point it's exhausting (and expensive) trying to make every meal memorable. What DOES make this place special is the attention to detail in the decor, and staff. It's really beautiful, and we just felt good being there. The service was great as well! I would still recommend this restaurant if you've never had German food. The novelty itself is worth the visit! I tend to look at places like this and feel grateful that someone is sharing their culture with the masses. We all benefit from opening our minds, and sometimes our mouths, so that we can better understand one another. read more

We came here for my bachelorette party in December 2022. I was so excited to check it out, and the experience did not disappoint! We were sat quickly even though we were early to our reservation. They asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and in December we opted for inside but didn't realize the outdoor dining area was heated and somewhat enclosed, so I'd opt for that in the future. The restaurant was so quaint and exactly what you'd expect to find at a Bavarian themed restaurant, while not in Bavaria! As you walk in, the dessert case greets you with views of German Apple strudel, Austrian dumplings with poppy seeds, and many other German and Austrian themed cakes and pastries. Drinks were fantastic, I got a simple mulled wine that hugged me with warmth, a friend got the feuerzangenbowle which is a traditional German rum soaked sugarloaf that they light on fire and drips into spicy hot wine. Such a cool thing to see! We got the mini beer flight, which wasn't a beer at all but a shot of a butterscotch flavored spirit, also one of my favorite things there! Of course the food was hearty and warm, I opted for a soup to stay warm and cozy. We got the fondue as well, the only tip I'd have for that is get the veggies on the side! It was pretty heavy with just the cheese and bread. Overall, a wonderful experience and I can't wait to go back! read more
Didn't really love anything we got here, which included the gnocchi, some meat dish that came with a pretzel, the fondue (this one was the best of them all but still not great), and the apple dessert. Wouldn't recommend. read more

Just went here for drinks and an afternoon snack. The venue has a great vibe and the owners have done an amazing job decorating the venue and building out a quality menu and service. The only food we enjoyed was the pretzel served with cheese fondue and mustard which was excellent and quite yummy. The cocktail list was well crafted and very interesting. The drinks were definitely light on the pour, but tasty. read more

We ran across this restaurant our first day in Vail and were fortunate to be able to snag a reservation before we left town. It is such a cute little German restaurant, with snugly packed tables and an authentic menu. We enjoyed the pretzel, Caesar salad with chicken (very disappointed they were out of the beet salad), sauerkraut, and potato balls. All of our food was great, service was very good, and our food was served more quickly than we could ever have expected. It's a bit noisy but only because they have maximized every square inch of the place for seating. Would love to return and enjoy the gondola experience with our kids! read more

The food is great, tho I feel a little wasteful. We advised our party reduced from 4 to 2 with no one else doing the gondola experience at our time frame so clearly able to take a moment to reconfigure accordingly. They did not and so very wasteful with their servings. The experience with ambiance is great, quaint and enjoyable! The service is alright (maybe could be a bit more attentive),, especially with only 2 of us in 1 of 5 gondolas (none of the others are occupied). The server is very kind and personable. I do love the idea of providing each gondola with their own blue tooth speaker. It's a fun spot if you are visiting the Vail area! read more

This is probably my favorite place to eat in Vail Village. It is nice and warm in the cold winters, and it has a nice patio in the summer. Always a great experience and everyone is so nice. Inside is full of wood with the feel of a chalet - the smell of mulled wine is in the air. You can try almost any of the specialties, but I am always partial to a schnitzel. It is delicious, served with lingonberries and spaetzle. The pretzel and the rösti balls are not to be missed either. It can get busy, so get there early or plan ahead. read more

Cutest little place. All the wooden seats were lined with fur coverings and the table settings were to die for. I felt like I was in a little cabin restaurant in the Alps. Nice change to the typical Asian or Italian cuisine I would normally choose. We ordered the fondue as an appetizer. You can just tell that they put a lot of thought into the presentation of each dish. The only thing with the fondue was that it had a very strong wine taste to it. My daughter turned her nose at it immediately after tasting it, and even though she was right, my husband and I kept enjoying it. I love sauerkraut, so I ordered the schnitzel and noodles with sauerkraut. It was amazing! My daughter got the bolognese, but would not stop eating my dish. My husband ordered the brats and they did not disappoint either. The brats were so flavorful and tender. One minute they were there, and the next minute, my husband's plate was empty. Even though our tummies were full, we wanted to try everything, so we ordered the apple strudel dessert. When she asked what kind of ice cream we wanted with it, we assumed it came on top, but it came separately and then we realized it was a separate dish and we had been charged for both. That was a little annoying, but we did enjoy the ice cream as well, so I didn't want to make it an issue. All in all, I would go back again and again when visiting the Vail village. This place was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. I actually can't wait until the gondolas open so I can enjoy the fondue in the pretty snowfall scenery. This time hold the extra wine though. read more

I really enjoyed our dining experience at the alpenrose. Loved the Swiss village themed dining and the food was also so tasty. We had the cheese fondue, goulash with spaetzel and the summer veggies curry. I lived for a short while in Germany a few years back and the spaetzel was just as what I remembered. Overall I would definitely recommend and would come back again read more

A slice of Germany tucked away in vail A very cool vibe for a restaurant! Great selection of German beers and very fresh! You can even ask for little tasters if you wanna try it first. You can't help but take notice that the staff everywhere In vail this year is struggling to keep up with the amounts of people heading out being short staffed, last year we tried almresi and it was spectacular, this year we decided to try Alpenrose and it seemed the host was overwhelmed, reservations are a must, our server was prompt and kind, our food came out exceptionally quick and was wonderful. Highly recommend this adorable spot! Delicious German/Austrian food, cute ambiance and decor, very fitting for a mountain town! We were a party of 6 and got the fondue, their salad with the lingonberry ranch was delicious, and their Oktoberfest Hax'n was so tender and flavorful. Also their Their desserts were tasty but we were a bit full by the time it got to dessert. Definitely go! read more
My husband and I visited Vail for our anniversary, and I was dreaming about the cheese fondue at Alpenrose the entire time. We ended up taking a lengthy hike one of the days, so our afternoon reward was fondue. I highly recommend a reservation - even in the afternoon - if you want a street view of Vail Village, especially if it's busy (Oktoberfest was happening). We were seated in the back of the restaurant, where it was quaint and quiet. There were several dogs on the patio, which warmed my heart. Our waitress was incredible and ensured we had everything we needed. I'm horribly gluten intolerant, so their accommodation with GF crackers helped a lot. We will absolutely return on our next visit to Vail. read more

EXCELLENT Authentic German Cuisine! Centrally located and a very short walk to midtown. Indoor seating or outdoor overlooking pedestrian walkway in front or the Biergarten out back, all covered with huge Umbrellas. The decor and food takes you back to Bavaria with wide variety of traditional dishes cooked to perfection with the finest ingredients. If you want sandwiches, soups, stews or a fine dinner they have it all and don't forget to go inside a peruse the assortment of desert selections to enjoy after your meal or to-go. We've been to Bavaria and this quaint restaurant in Vail is as close to being in Germany as you will find. See Photos! Highly Recommended read more

We were shopping and needed a place to fill our bellies and decided to stop in. The interior feels cozy and log cabin-y. Super cute! We ordered hot chocolate , which needed a lit if sugar added. We also ordered the potato balls and spicy beef soup, both were so hearty and delicious. We finished off with a cherry streusel that also needed a lot of sugar( in my sweet tooth opinion) Overall such a great place, but the sweet stuff could be doused in a ton of American sugar! read more
