We came here for my bachelorette party in December 2022. I was so excited to check it out, and the experience did not disappoint! We were sat quickly even though we were early to our reservation. They asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, and in December we opted for inside but didn't realize the outdoor dining area was heated and somewhat enclosed, so I'd opt for that in the future. The restaurant was so quaint and exactly what you'd expect to find at a Bavarian themed restaurant, while not in Bavaria! As you walk in, the dessert case greets you with views of German Apple strudel, Austrian dumplings with poppy seeds, and many other German and Austrian themed cakes and pastries. Drinks were fantastic, I got a simple mulled wine that hugged me with warmth, a friend got the feuerzangenbowle which is a traditional German rum soaked sugarloaf that they light on fire and drips into spicy hot wine. Such a cool thing to see! We got the mini beer flight, which wasn't a beer at all but a shot of a butterscotch flavored spirit, also one of my favorite things there! Of course the food was hearty and warm, I opted for a soup to stay warm and cozy. We got the fondue as well, the only tip I'd have for that is get the veggies on the side! We ran across this restaurant our first day in Vail and were fortunate to be able to snag a reservation before we left town. It is such a cute little German restaurant, with snugly packed tables and an authentic menu. We enjoyed the pretzel, Caesar salad with chicken (very disappointed they were out of the beet salad), sauerkraut, and potato balls. All of our food was great, service was very good, and our food was served more quickly than we could ever have expected. It's a bit noisy but only because they have maximized every square inch of the place for seating. Would love to return and enjoy the gondola experience with our kids! read more

We advised our party reduced from 4 to 2 with no one else doing the gondola experience at our time frame so clearly able to take a moment to reconfigure accordingly. They did not and so very wasteful with their servings. The experience with ambiance is great, quaint and enjoyable! The service is alright (maybe could be a bit more attentive),, especially with only 2 of us in 1 of 5 gondolas (none of the others are occupied). The server is very kind and personable. This is probably my favorite place to eat in Vail Village. It is nice and warm in the cold winters, and it has a nice patio in the summer. Always a great experience and everyone is so nice. Inside is full of wood with the feel of a chalet - the smell of mulled wine is in the air. You can try almost any of the specialties, but I am always partial to a schnitzel. It is delicious, served with lingonberries and spaetzle. The pretzel and the rösti balls are not to be missed either. It can get busy, so get there early or plan ahead. read more

The food was very good. I had the schnitzel with a Paulaner weizen. I also wrapped it up with the apfel strudel. Everything was great. That said, this restaurant was so crowded and the wait was long, so I had to sit at the bar, which wasn't ideal. I went early (5-5:30) since I didn't have a reservation and the place was full of people who just dropped in off the slopes. What a fun experience! We reserved an outdoor gondola and it was like eating in a snow globe. I thought the price was very fair- especially for vail. The food plenty and delicious. And staff warm and welcoming. We dressed warm and we were actually too hot in ours- opting to open the doors for a little air. We ended up taking a lengthy hike one of the days, so our afternoon reward was fondue. I highly recommend a reservation - even in the afternoon - if you want a street view of Vail Village, especially if it's busy (Oktoberfest was happening). We were seated in the back of the restaurant, where it was quaint and quiet. There were several dogs on the patio, which warmed my heart. Our waitress was incredible and ensured we had everything we needed. I'm horribly gluten intolerant, so their accommodation with GF crackers helped a lot. Why a fun evening in the gondola!! Make sure to make a reservation if you want to dine in one. It's fondue only and then you can order any drinks. Sadly no cheese fondue- just fondue for meat and veggies. They do offer cheese slices though so we made some great potatoes. We stumbled into Alpenrose after we were denied a seat at La Nonna right next door (deserved for not making a reservation on a weekend). I really loved the quaint decor and homey feel of the place - you really feel like you're eating in someone's lodge in the Alps. The food was pretty good but not what I entirely expected. The Kalbsgulash was quite creamy and mushroomy (almost like a cream of mushroom soup), lacking the kick of paprika I had become accustomed to when I studied abroad in Austria and frequently ordered Goulash (because it was relatively cheap for a poor student). The red cabbage sauerkraut was also on the sweeter side, I would've liked it better with a bit more tartness. My gf and friend ordered a pork shank dish that was bone dry and could've used more sauce. Overall, I'd come back for the beer, pretzel and atmosphere. read more

Booked reservations for a Friday night and so glad we did! We sat inside. The ambience is warm, rustic and charming. I ordered the truffle bratwurst and my friend ordered the schnitzel and we shared. Both plates were fantastic! The brats came with a sauerkraut that was a highlight for me. Don't think of that stuff you get on a hot dog. This was warm and perfectly soft and a bit sweet. Yum! The schnitzel was very thin with a tasty breading and sweet/tart ligonberry compote on the side. Read the menu to see what else comes on the plates. Everything was done to perfection. We also ordered the potato balls and spicy beef soup, both were so hearty and delicious. We went not once but twice in our week trip to vail. This is easily one of the best restaurants in the area. Delicious German food and fantastic cocktails, there's really no wrong here. The cheese fondue, the schnitzel, the rosti balls, the pork shank, literally everything is amazing. The location is beautifully decorated and kept warm during the winter months. I would rather have some other side options. This is their lunch price too, which is pretty insane. Decided to order a pretzel for $14 with beer cheese (a $4 charge). The pretzel was alright, no better than anything you'll get a movie theater or pretzel stand. It's a good thing I ordered the beer cheese because the mustard wasn't very good. Hot apple cider was nice. Nothing too special. Service was attentive. The restaurant itself is cozy and a nice cabin vibe. Fits the area. We visited Vail during Thanksgiving and this was one of the few places open. We didn't have a reservation but luckily we didn't have to wait to be seated. The place felt really cozy and the staff was super friendly. All of the food we ordered was delicious and the portions were one the larger side. The Germüse Curry was a stand out dish for us, really hearty and tasty, perfect to warm up on a cold day! Our only complaints were that we asked for appetizers to be delivered first and the entrees afterwards but everything arrived at the same time and no one in our party enjoyed the cheese dip for the pretzel or the Herzhaftes Käsefondue. These were not deal breakers for us at all, and to be fair we really did not know what to expect with regards to our food since we don't often have German food.
