Alpenrose is a fun German restaurant in Vail with a cozy, alpine-inspired atmosphere. The outdoor patio is especially cute, and the inside continues the charming German theme. It's a popular spot, so I definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu isn't huge, but it offers a nice selection of traditional German favorites like bratwurst, schnitzel, fondue, and desserts. The food was enjoyable, and it was a fun dining experience, especially if you're looking to try classic German cuisine.
For reference my 5 star experience was in the gondola. Highly recommend doing this though while in Vail! Definitely felt like I was back in a Switzerland ski town! The gondola is cool because we had our own speak to play whatever we pleased! It felt very private and intimate which I really enjoyed. I loved the decor throughout the restaurant and our gondola had cute little touches as well. For example they had a coo coo clock that when off every hour. For drinks I tried their feuerzangenbowle and the muled wine. My husband got a Hugo spritz and jagertee. I loved my drinks the feuerzangenbowle uses flambé which was so cool!, it's pretty similar to the muled wine. Muled wine is always a favorite of mine when the weather gets cold! Our server was awesome and super attentive. He answered any questions we had and was very friendly. The gondolas have a set menu we ended up ordering more that was on the set menu since I wanted fondue and my husband wanted the raclette. We added on a fondue, ordered the raclette that came on our fixed menu and added on steak, along with the pretzel that comes as an appetizer. The food was really good, I think it is also just so cozy and suiting for the cold weather! Fondue and raclette are also just such a fun way to dine! Highly recommend and definitely will be back just to try the standard experience too without the gondola.
This was possibly my favorite restaurant during our recent visit to Vail and Breckenridge! I think I tried to go here last time I was in Vail, but they were booked. Anyway, they specialized in German foods...with this cute, cozy German decor to match. We shared 3 items...Chili Con Carne, this delicious chili soup, which came with 2 pieces of bread; 2 pieces of Rosti, something close to small, meat & veggie-filled pancakes; and their signature item, this Schnitzel "Rockies & Roses", which came with Spatzle. Well, I loved all of it...but guess my favorite was the Schnitzel! Their Pork Schnitzel was much thinner than most...which was awesome. Not only delish, but everything was beautifully presented. Everything---from ambiance to service and food---was stellar. Again, my favorite from all the restaurants we visited. Hope to revisit again!
Seems like we look for these types of places in our ski trips, and this joint looked the part. Promptly seated at a nice table in the quaint and authentically decorated chalet dining room and opted for a German imported brew, which I liked and had several others too! Pretzel was a bit dough-ey for my liking but the cheese & mustard were nice compliments. Schnitzel was large with a crusty coating that held up to the condiments. Couldn't choose from all the desert options so we went with a couple... there was a berry torte that was a bit dry and lacked sweetness. The strudel was nice and came with a vanilla creme sauce that complimented it well. Ambiance was hunting chalet chic, prices are in line with the locale, and service was friendly, prompt, and helpful!
Pretty authentic German experience overall. From the restaurant environment to the servers' outfits, everything really gives you that traditional German feel. We ordered the Munich platter to share, along with a few sausages, soups, and of course, sauerkraut. The food was good overall, and my family really enjoyed the meal, especially getting to try a variety of different dishes together. Personally, I thought it was just okay, but I think that's more because German food isn't really my cup of tea rather than anything being wrong with the food itself. Service was nice, and the atmosphere definitely added to the experience. Overall, a fun place to try if you enjoy German food or want something that feels a little more authentic.
I love a cute experience, and alpenrose vail delivered! Our server was so adorable and accommodating. We did the cheese fondue option and added steak. The meat was super fresh and tender. Nothing comes preseasoned so we did ask for salt and pepper to doctor it up as much as possible. But overall we enjoyed. A round of birthday shots and cake was brought out at the end as a cute cherry on top. I definitely recommend checking them out if in Vail.
I always make sure to order pretzel whenever a restaurant offers it. So far, NBC restaurant in Universal City Walk is one of top 3 that makes good pretzel. Alpenrose isn't too bad. It is a pity that they charge $4 each for dipping sauce. I would've not minded if it was $2 but $4? The place has ample seating and fairly spacious. Didn't order Winter Curry, I had a bit of it from friend's - it was unique taste. If you are looking for a fun shopping experience where a Germany restaurant is nearby in Colorado, give Alpenrose a try.
We have been visiting Vail for the past five years. Every time we are in town, we come to Alpenrose at least 3 times! It's a must when visiting. Smara is the best waitress and she is so attentive! The espresso martini is the best I've ever had.
Adore Alpenrose!! It's like grandma chic to the max with great food and really attentive and friendly service. Also, the food is pretty epic. It's seriously putting the German food to shame where I live (and I thought we had some pretty good options!) We had the: *TRÜFFEL BRATWURST (Pair of delicious Truffle Bratwurst with red cabbage, mashed potatoes and mustard) - Delicious! Great flavor but not overpowering (like how truffle oil can sometimes be!) I really enjoyed their version of red cabbage too. *OKTOBERFEST HAX'N (Crispy Pork shank with fresh baked German pretzel, mustard and Obazda cheese) - this was SO good. So flavorful and juicy. It also came with a FULL SIZE german pretzel, it was awesome. *APFELSTRUDEL (Traditional German apple strudel served with vanilla sauce) - Oh jeez, best apfelstrudel I've had in my life! To note, I haven't been to Germany but my husband's German family makes some pretty solid versions but this was pretty perfect.
The German flair is prevalent throughout Vail but it especially rules at the Alpenrose. Being German, I am very particular about all things Bavarian. I decided on the Gulasch with Spaetzle for dinner. Aside from the expense of the meal, the experience did not disappoint. The food was good, the Radler delish, and service, supreme. Our waiter, Hannes, hailed from Austria so he was able to converse with us and to help my aunt feel comfortable. He was so much fun! Our meals arrived quickly too! Indoor seating is slim pickings but their patio works perfect for this time of year. Restrooms are in the basement and may present a slight challenge for those with mobility issues. Also, since the Alpenrose is located on the Fussgängerzone (pedestrian alley) so there is no parking close by.
Very alive space with German/Austrian feel without being hokey. The staff wear traditional German attire which adds to the overall atmosphere. The large menu gives you a chance to try "the usuals" but also presents some items that may not be as familiar. There is a small selection of German beers on tap as well as some glasses/bottles of various wines. We enjoyed the Schnitzel as well as the Octoberfest Hax'n, which was a gigantic Pork Shank. We added Potatoes Rosti, Red Cabbage and Sauerkraut as sides. Both portions were delicious as well as humongous - either one being enough for 2 people. We were too full to try their delicious looking desserts. Great place to try for an authentic German meal.
Alpenrose is a must while in Vail. Highly recommend making a reservation, especially on the weekends. The ambiance, food, and presentation are so fun! Plenty of choices when it comes to food so they have something for everyone. The prices are very reasonable, and the service is always super friendly and accommodating.
We absolutely loved this quaint little restaurant. It felt like we were in a fairytale sitting outside. Lights and flowers are streamed everywhere, oil burning lamps at the table, and hand net pillows sitting on the back of the benches. This is definitely a place where you wanna sit back and relax and enjoy your food and drink with friends and family. We actually just went for the apple strudel, which was amazing, but I can't wait to go back and try something on their dinner menu

Alpenrose is a really nice little place to grab lunch or dinner while in Vail. The decor is very charming, with ski lift chairs and little hearts cutout into the wood all over. It's cozy and warm - the perfect place to come in from the cold for some hearty food. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and love the German / Swiss influence of the menu. One thing that immediately caught my eye was the Rösti balls. I had Rösti in Switzerland and loved it so this was a nice little treat; a different spin on an old classic. They were crunchy, gooey, and packed with good flavor. The bratwurst were very also good, super juicy, and a good portion size. I really enjoyed the huge pretzel and the mustard and cheese sauce were both incredibly good. Our table also had the fondue although I didn't try it myself. They liked it. The food came out crazy quick and we were in and out under an hour. Vail prices are high in general so ordering just a few bites came with a big price tag, but the quality was up there so it's less of a hard pill to swallow. Wow, this place is fantastic. A true gem for vacationing. We sat outdoor, on this beautifully decorated patio. No problem bringing my toddler, they had a high chair and cute children's menu. Started with the potato soap- delicious. Then we shared the Caesar salad- very good, the Rockies and Roses Schnitzel and the Pork Shank. All were so beautifully platted, extremely fast and delicious. The Pork Shank was outstanding. This would be a great place for a first or any date, for an anniversary, for family, friends- anyone. The service was very friendly, and the views were outstanding. Would definitely return if in the area! They also took our reservation on the phone about a half hour before we came in (5pm on a Saturday). Thank you for a memorable meal! read more
We loved the Alpenrose! Everything from start to finish. We sat outside on the front patio which is lovely with surrounding flowers and a great spot for people watching as they saunter down Meadow St. Not a better seat in the house! Food: We selected the Cheese Fondue w/dried Apples and Plums. It was beautifully presented and very tasty. The only slight improvement would have been to have a warming dish for the cheese as it goes cold pretty quick. For our entrees we had the Schnitzel with the lingonberry sauce and spaetzle with gravy. It was all so flavorful! The second entree was the Veal Stew with Spaetzle. It was equally tasty. You can't go wrong with either of these two selections. The presentations are all thoughtfully done, right down to the straws in the iced tea with their floral print and the cow spear for the accompanying lemon slice. The service delivered by our excellent Austrian server was solicitous and spot on. She was great at checking in and providing drink refills. Our only regret was that we didn't have enough room to order one of the desserts. They all looked delectable! Highly recommend Alpenrose. A slice of Germany nestled in Vail Colorado. read more
Food was great, portion size was very large! My husband and I split the Oktoberfest pork shank and pretzel, the meat was fall off the bone tender and the pretzel was great! We also shared a mountain climber soup- which is a hearty beef stew and got a side of rosti. We left very full and had a great experience! Recommend booking reservations far in advance, I happened to find an opening at decent time by chance when it even was booked out a month in advance! read more
Our first time in Vail, Colorado. I was so curious about this German/European themed restaurant so I have to check it out. The decoration is definitely on point. It has this cute and yet rustic mountain cabin/old world feeling. The food is not bad at all. They look good and are tasty too. I love the crispy skin pork shank and the crispy potato cakes from the smoked salmon fish. Wait! Did I just love everything crispy?! LOL! The meat from the pork shall is tender and juicy. The meat juice/sauce that comes with adds a lot of flavors to it, making it finger licking! They definitely like to use heavy wood trays/ plates which matches the theme of the restaurant. The waiter and waitress are wearing European country attires, which makes the dining experienceeven more fun. Overall, it's a fun visit. read more

This place was so cozy and delicious! Right in the Vail village, we went with a group of nine and shared a bunch of apps, including the beet salad, pretzel, dipping cheese then all got our own entrees. It was freezing so I opted for the veggie curry and it was fantastic, warmed me up immediately and was served with yummy potato pancakes on the side. We had a great experience at this cozy little Alpine restaurant in the heart of Vail! The service was impeccable and fast. We ordered the pretzel, a salad and the schnitzel and all were delicious. The Weißbier was perfect for a warm summer day and the Lavender Tonic was strong but also delicious. Highly recommend for a fun European atmosphere with unique food! read more
Alpenrose is a must-go to, lively and fun environment. Everything from the food to the decor and the staff make Alpenrose an enjoyable experience. For food I got the "SCHNITZEL 'ROCKIES AND ROSES'" and it was very good. I definitely would recommend ordering it if you are not sure what to get. In terms of decoration, the alpine decor is well done and does a great job of creating the German-Austrian feel that the restaurant is going for. Whether you sit inside or outside you will be able to enjoy the nicely themed restaurant. The staff were also dressed to match the theme of the restaurant and every single person that I interacted with was friendly and personable. Overall, I think Alpenrose is a can't miss spot for anyone to check out and enjoy a meal at. read more

Many times I visit a restaurant and the next day I could not tell you what I had. Sometimes the decor is very forgettable. It's like I was sleep walking through the experience. This place is different, months later I find myself thinking about it. Thinking about the cozy decor. Thinking about the unique menu, the fascinating drinks, the interesting presentation hell I was very impressed by the uniforms that the staff wore. I will return to this place to explore more of the menu. I will also take way more pictures since it is such a unique environment. I whole heartedly recommend that if you are in the area that you visit this place! Call to ensure they are open since they are seasonal. read more

I think my body just tried to grow another stomach. The food here is indescribable. The first mistake I think we made was the pretzel. It was amazing and we ate too much of it. Honestly I don't think you need appetizers here lol. Their main dishes...you will want all the room in your stomach that you can get. I loved the schnitzel and the spatzel and hubby cleaned his plate. Dessert was ok. The ambiance and service are top notch though. Make reservations!!! Worth it!!! read more

A must visit every time I'm in vail! Great patio to sit on when it's warm outside, beautifully decorated both inside and outside. The service is great too! And it's cute because the staff is also dressed to theme. My boyfriend said his bratwurst was some of the best he's ever had. read more
Always 5/5 stars every time we visit! The food is authentic and the waiters are always super attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. I love the cozy feel in here, especially around Christmas time. I highly recommend setting a reminder to snag a reservation here about a month out, otherwise it's not likely you'll get a table. What a unique and memorable dining experience! We dined in our own cozy gondola with a beautiful interior that made the evening feel so special and intimate. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was perfect from start to finish. The pea soup was fabulous--rich and comforting--and the meat fondue was incredibly yummy and flavorful. Where to begin...the only downside to this place is with no AC it can get warm inside as it was last night. Everything else? Fantastic. The staff is great and attentive. The table behind us was being a PITA and the wait staff handled it amazingly well. What about the food? This is some of the best food in the region. The Schnitzel is very good, the gravy is excellent. The truffled brats are excellent full stop. A fantastic dish. The drinks? Best we've had in vail. I've changed my mind skip this place all together. Food regret is real. Not sure why we came back for a second time except for that they were the only place that had available reservations and we were tired & hungry. This time around we got the pretzel and sausage plate and added pickles. The food is a little below mid and expensive. The sausage tasted like steamed low sodium bologna links, the sauerkraut was missing. We also got another weird salad. This time with peanuts and Parmesan, and ranch...why?? We also got the fondue which was ok too boozy but again way overpriced for what we got which was cubed stale bread and a side of 4 corniches and 3 pearl onions for $25. The pretzel and drinks were good. The dessert looks good but we couldn't handle another regretful dish so we passed. The service was good. The back patio is a bummer, it's hot in the summer with no breeze and bad decor. If they sit you here just go somewhere else because you're paying for the vibes. The front patio is the only place to sit at in the summer, period. The inside is cute when it's cool out (no ac in the summer). The extra kick in the nuts was the $55 parking from the public garage down the street for 2 hours. read more

So perfect! Picturesque, authentic, and tremendous service! We were wandering and the curb appeal alone pulled us right in. Once inside the full staff was genuinely grateful to host you and interested to ensure you enjoyed the experience. Sat on deck for a beautiful Vail afternoon. Had Cheeze Fondue, Bratwurst Bites, Aperol Spritz, and German beer. All were fantastic. With a Cherry Almond tart for dessert. Great presentation and the staff took it up a level!
