Stopped here for lunch on our way home from Austin. It's got a ton of seating, friendly staff and seems to be a favorite among the community. I had the chicken noodle soup and chicken salad sandwich. I liked the soup - it reminded me of my mom's. Hubby had the cream of broccoli soup with the open faced hot beef mash. He said the soup was pretty good and the beef was very good. My chicken salad was just ok for me. I'd say since neither of us tried their breakfast which seemed to be what most people talked about, we probably didn't have their "specialties". I love this place. I eat here more than I care to admit. The staff is so friendly and just a great mom and pop shop. Now on to the good stuff, I have probably tried every soup they make, almost all of them are delish. I'm partial to the vegetable soup (heavy on cabbage in all the right ways) and the rice and chicken soup. The pancakes are like the size of your head and filled with yumminess, the steak in eggs is everything you can imagine. Oh and the side salad is ALWAYS so fresh and delish, it's something small but so amazing to have it always be great. I love coming here and will be a patron for a very long time. We had our first proper meal in our new hometown here at Allen Cafe. We came around a 2 PM on a rainy Tuesday, and there were a small number of parties having a late lunch like we did. The restaurant definitely has an American country home-like atmosphere which we liked. The menu mainly consists of your usual breakfast items, burgers, and sandwiches. My fiance ordered the burger with fries from the lunch special menu and I got the chicken caesar wrap from the main menu. I was a little surprised that my fiance ordered *just a burger* since the rest of the menu looked good, but the burger ended up being surprisingly really good! They use a good and soft bun, and the burger was cooked perfectly: juicy and savory. The fries served along with the burger was delicious too; I believe it was beer battered. My chicken caesar wrap was delicious too! I got it with a side of the delicious french fries. Overall, we had a pretty good meal here and I would definitely come back again to try more items. The restaurant is smaller in the inside than it looks from the outside. They can get pretty busy and the wait can be a little long. It's a nice local restaurant with a lot of heart and history. You can feel that walking in and that it's really become a major part of allen. Food is homey and very much comfort food. Our hashbrowns were a little stale though which was disappointing. Eggs weren't hot when they came out and chicken fried steak was a little dry. But flavor was good and present. Came in during their least busy time and was served pretty quick. Ordered the Texas breakfast with a side of hash browns and was disappointed in the quality of the sausage. They looked like hockey pucks but we're at least edible, just not great to look at. Bacon was over cooked although it could be a preference difference depending on who you ask. I don't like it so crunchy that it feels like it's burnt. Hash browns, eggs, and pancakes were alright. Hard to mess those up but doesn't feel like there was any heart put into the cooking. Butter and syrup is both the artificial cheap stuff too. I was starving when I came in so I ate just about anything but it's not a place I'd come back to for food. The speed at which I got my food was brought to me was super fast and the server I had was an absolute sweetheart. The ambiance wasn't much to look at. Felt like an old cafe and I imagine this place has been here a while but overall just a mid experience. If you're in a pinch and need to eat something and don't care about the quality and are on a budget this place will be a nice fit for ya. The owner checked on me several times while I waited - very pleasant. The waitstaff are all exceptionally efficient and nice. The food was quickly prepared and delicious. I had the spinach and feta omelette and a side of French toast. Also had coffee and my cup never got to the bottom before someone refilled. If you want a local, no-frills breakfast with friendly service and a hometown atmosphere, Allen Cafe is your place. The crowds arrive by 10am on weekends, so if you want to skip the wait, get here early. Parking is also tight on Sundays because of the Baptist church next door. Great OG diner. Not yuppie, not hipster, not organic, not dolphin safe. My sunny side eggs were crispy on the bottom and runny on top. My Wife's over easy were soft and runny too. Hash browns were crispy and not greasy. Pancakes are fluffy and awesome. Canned corned beef hash but fried up crispy and not overly salty like other places. Coffee was diner quality and frequently refilled. The wait staff is very attentive and courteous. Also the price is great and not overinflated like everything in Plano and Frisco. Had family with us for the Texas-OU game and wanted to get breakfast for a party of 9 on a late, late (cuz my Aunt took forever getting ready) Sunday morning. Normally my mom hates going out with such a large group. The risk of getting poor service is too high with a party of 8 or more and it reflects poorly on her. So my mom usually has one Go-To Restaurant and it's almost always Italian Villa in Allen, where she knows the owners. Allen Cafe is also owned by those same people. So we walk in, got seated right away even though there are only booths and a few fully -occupied tables for eight. Services was great. You could see the owners working hard to meet every last diner's needs. The food was good was too. I had the Greek Omelet with hash browns and biscuits & gravy. Next time I go I'll try the Gyro Omelet. Breakfast was pretty much perfect, everyone was fed on time and I'm sure my mom could let out a sweet sigh of relief. read more

Hands-down the best eggs in town! I like my eggs over hard. Other places have been hit-or-miss at best, apparently clueless at worst. At Allen Cafe, I was handed a plate prepared by a master chef. Beside my perfectly cooked eggs were a pair of super yummy pancakes and a pair of bacon strips that were just the right balance of crispy and pliable. My server wasn't simply friendly. She treated me like a friend! Service was personable and fast. The time from ordering to receiving my plate was very short.
