Shrimp and grits- best bite!
Becca L.

Enjoyable night out in a really cute restaurant. It's currently decorated for St. Patricks day and is full of Irish Pub charm. We went on a Sunday night and had a delightful waitress, but ultimately we waited an hour after ordering to get our main course dishes. One person with me ordered soup that arrived after his main course, which is just not the order you want to eat it in! We ordered cocktails right away and those also took a long time to arrive. The best bites among our group were the pork belly sliders and the shrimp and grits. The pork belly slider had an Asian flair with a sweet and spicy sticky chili sauce. The shrimp and grits were amazing, the grits are so creamy and buttery with a smoky seasoned shrimp- I would order this as my main meal next time! The short rib was too fatty for me, my husband doesn't mind the fat and enjoyed it but there was a lot of eating around fat for me, so that's up to your personal taste!

Wow! what an absolutely delicious meal and absolutely love the fact that it is farm to table. The menu is well thought out and has such a variety for all different tastes. The whistling past the graveyard burger was one of the best burgers I've had in such a long time. The rich barbecue sauce with the peppered bacon and jam was absolutely phenomenal. They also had a really decent selection of different drinks on tap for beers and multiple specialty cocktails so definitely a place that you could come just to grab a drink but for sure try the food. This has been one of the more exciting restaurants for me to want to return to.

Limited view of the place because I was a table for one and sat at the rail. Super cute and cozy vibe. My drink was fantastic and I had the sea scallops. Yummy! Orion was my server and she was great! Service was good for how busy they were. Highly recommend!

Omg!!! The name is just as fitting as the food!!! If you don't pay attention while walking down the sidewalk in the beautiful downtown Naperville, you will miss this hotspot. My husband and I decided to try something new and Allegory is now a date night favorite. The service was fantastic! We have not gone in without feeling like family from each server. As you can see from the photos, our server persuaded us to try something new amazing dishes! The drinks are delicious and the food was mouth watering. The salad was top tier! Some people may prefer frozen lettuce, I don't. The lettuce was just the right temperature. I can't explain it, but when you know, you know! You can see in the photo where they take their old menus and use them as coasters or place mats. It gives the place a cottage feel and I love it!! Go try Allegory and let me know what you think! I'm a fan and I'll be back again!

Ambiance good and drinks all 5 stars!! Great time and great experience :) I got the mushroom risotto with scallops and iron steak on the side. Service was excellent! Very attentive without being over bearing. This is a farm to table place . Fresh food good vibes.

This was such a unique restaurant. The Dining space was sandwiched between two buildings. There was a covered roof top with windows lined with stringed lights. The design was super simple, cozy with natural elements with clean lines and modern feel. There definite was a sophisticated rustic vibe. The ingredients were fresh and plated well. The presentation was thoughtful and looked carefully curated. I ordered the Phill E and it was top notch. It was hard to eat neatly, but I enjoyed every bite and joined the "clean plate club". The meat was tender, the bread was perfectly toasted, the cheese was melty-- it dripped with goodness. The entire table was eating contently in a chorus of how flavorful and tasty the food was!

Come Fridays for the fish and chips. It's insanely flakey, almost hard to pick up with the fork. The coleslaw is very flavorful and stood out to me. Service was great and a nice lively environment.

If you're looking for shrimp & grits, this is the place. Allegory's "Kiss my grits", which is blackened shrimp with cheesy white corn grits and browned butter, is absolutely delicious. It is a "small" dish, but I found the portion size to be perfect. Highly highly recommend!

I've been here twice - looking forward to my next visit! First time I sat at the bar, had food and drinks, it was a great place to people watch and chat with the bartender. Second time I had a lovely little date with me, myself, and I. My waitress was so lovely, we chatted throughout my time there. The food was absolutely wonderful - I highly recommend the soup and quiche!

Stopped in while visiting a store nearby. The restaurant is full of live plants hanging from the ceilings, potted around the front window & draped along the brick walls. I came in the day after St Patrick's so I had the pleasure of seeing all their decor. Adam served me at the bar and was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I love the window frames along the walls and all the rustic touches that complement one another. This is a family owned farm to table restaurant with table, window and bar seating. They have a full bar with beer, wine, craft spirits & a huge bourbon list. I got the quiche & it was drool worthy. It came with salad, potatoes and sausage. I also got the lavender lemon pistachio cake for dessert. Dishes were super filling & great price. Will return again :)

The atmosphere is very nice has nice decor friendly service we had ordered. I have got a skirt steak and my husband got scallops. We ordered a piece of chocolate cake to take with us. It was all very good. Would eat here again.

We have been here twice. First time was fantastic. We had the mussels, chicken and waffles and a sandwich which i can't recall the actual name of. But what I do remember of this visit was that it took quite awhile for the food, and the fries were cold. However, the chicken and waffles, drinks and ambiance were enough to bring us back again. This time the place was pretty empty. We again had the mussels but we also had the rueben sandwich and the burger. Again, the fries were cold for both our meals. The burger, while large - was incredibly bland with a burnt bun. And the Rueben was, as the kids say, "mid". At $20 for the burger, I really expected to be blown away with flavor - so it was disappointing. I am not sure if we would return. If we did, I'd definitely stick to the mussels and chicken and waffles.

Had a wonderful date night here, we didn't make a reservation but were able to sit at the bar, which offers the full menu. The food was really tasty, started with the charcuterie board, which is enough for two people to share, and everything on there was wonderful. The cocktails were also very tasty and made strong which is perfect for a date night ;) We also split the steak and the mashed potatoes were delicious! Would definitely recommend. My only complaint would be that it is very noisy in there, and it was cold when they had the door open. You could feel the draft from outside at the bar. Service was great but with so many people in there it was hard to tell the bartender when we wanted to order, needed more water etc. Check it out!

Been here several times. Great food, lively atmosphere, and so on…read more Today was our first carry-out. We were worried but not after we got home with our food. It was just as good as in the restaurant. We ordered for 4 people. The food was spot on. Tomahawk, 2 Vodka pastas, and the wagyu beef stroganoff. With two brussels sprouts sides, the cheese cake and banana pie. The deserts are to die for! I am amazed this carry-out was just as good as in the restaurant. Well packaged. Still fresh when we got home and as always here, tasty. Well done!

So I thought we were all set. Our reservation was for 6:00, and we arrived at 5:54. We were told to wait until six, which was perfectly fine. Six o'clock rolls around and we're told they're still cleaning the table. Okay, we wait. Then we wait. And wait. Thirty minutes later, we find out the people who had the table STILL hadn't even left. Baby...what exactly were we reserving three weeks ago, a future dream? They offered us a complimentary appetizer, which I appreciate in theory, but when you've got a party of eight waiting 40 minutes past their reservation time, I'm not really looking for the cheapest appetizer on the menu. I'm looking for the table I reserved. Eventually, we were seated, and thank GOD for our server Alexis B, because they completely turned the experience around. Funny, knowledgeable, incredibly kind, and genuinely one of the best servers I've ever had. If I could give them five stars separately, I would. They made us feel welcome and somehow kept the whole table laughing after that rocky start. The food had some hits and misses. The crab cake was a little too spicy for my taste, although the rest of the table enjoyed it. The mini sliders, however? DELICIOUS. That buttery, well seasoned bun was doing exactly what it needed to do. Then came my Entourage burger, and baby...THAT burger understood the assignment. It was absolutely packed with flavor. So good that I practically inhaled it. My server even asked if I wanted another one because apparently I ate it fast enough to qualify for a second round. Unfortunately, the management situation left a lot to be desired. After the issues getting our table, the managers seemed to keep watching our group throughout the night. If you're going to stare, baby, at least commit to the performance! It made an already awkward situation feel even more uncomfortable. Honestly, my server Alexis B, was the ONLY reason this experience ended on a positive note. They were so charming and personable that by the end, they felt more like a friend than a server. I'm genuinely going to miss them. The food was good, and that burger was fantastic, but a three-week reservation should not turn into a 40 minute wait with a party of eight standing around wondering when they're going to eat. So unfortunately, I'm leaving with two stars. The food gave me reasons to come back, but the reservation experience and management gave me reasons to stay home. And to my server: you were the star of the night. Protect this person at all costs.

We started with the Egg Roll Sampler, Calamari, and Fried Mac & Cheese Balls. Any one of those could have gone horribly wrong, but no! The egg rolls were all very flavorful, the calamari was perfectly cooked and tender - not rubbery at all, and the mac & cheese balls were wonderfully creamy inside. For our entrees, we had the Seared Tuna Tataki Salad, a Caesar Salad, and the Spicy Rigatoni Vodka. Now, admittedly we didn't eat very much of any of them because DID YOU SEE ALL THOSE APPETIZERS and we didn't want to pass up the cheesecake, but they were all so yummy that we had them packed up to take with us. Cheesecake definitely did NOT disappoint! Adam's Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple, Hershey's Chocolate Bar, and Tiramisu. All were fantastic, and we had the leftovers wrapped to take home too. Seriously, there aren't many chain restaurants that hit it out of the park, but this one was aces. But I wasn't able to find it on the menu. I should have known better. When you see a wide variety of dishes on the menu, including ethnic ones, (And this is certainly not an ethnic restaurant), The red flags are hoist high, the antennae are up, And suspicion is the order of the day. Of course, that didn't stop me from ordering ethnic shit for dinner. My dumb ass. I saw crab rangoon in the appetizer list. I happen to love crab rangoon. I've had crab rangoon in Chinese shitholes, and still found them edible. Crab Rangoon, as offered by Cheesecake Factory are actually open‑faced (kind of). I really didn't taste any crab in the paltry schmear of cheese contained therein. They were hard to eat, needing one to snap off all of the "wings", then try to dip them in the small amount of sauce provided. The whole thing was a lesson in frustration, as the portion of sauce was about three millimeters deep. To be fair, they really weren't that bad, and they tasted like many things, none of which were crab rangoon. My dinner of bad judgment proceeded with something called Jamaican shrimp. They were billed as being hot and spicy. They weren't. The shrimp themselves were actually fresh, but the gloppy sauce they were served in didn't do them any justice. On the plate there were some fried plantains, not too bad. Some rice and black beans, both timidly seasoned, and some sort of cold pineapple salad, which had a savory tinge to it. I et the shrimp, plantains, and about half of the pineapple. The remainder of the plate went back to the kitchen. Wife swung with the scampi over spaghettini. Again, the shrimp were pretty fresh, The sauce looked pretty but tasted dull. As we ploughed through our entrees, we gazed longingly at our grandson's burger, but that didn't look like a bargain either. I HAD to order a piece of cheesecake because...Cheesecake Factory. There are two pages of cheesecakes in the menu, with every combination of toppings you can think of. The tiramisu cheesecake stood out for me. I should have stood out from ordering it. You might think that tiramisu and cheesecake is a match made in heaven. It's not. Then again, there was no hint of "Tiramisu" flavor in the dish. I got the cheesecake "to go", and it came with a big glob of whipped cream, which held its exact shape all through the ride home, even with jostling of the container. It was the best thing I ate all day. The whipped cream, that is. If it was whipped cream at all. In summation, it was a thoroughly disappointing feed. I'm throwing two stars because the shrimp were fresh, and the service was pretty good. Eat somewhere else...

Altavida's concepts for the three levels are Publico, Rumba, and Altura. Publico (1st Flr)- A South American fusion of food and drinks that will be rotating. The cocktails will be more tequila and mezcal based and food will be subtly rotated based on trends happening in South America. The food menu currently offers tapas, empanadas, ceviche, guacamoles, larger format meat/seafood entrees, and more. They will have a front of our bar as well as a back bar that will specialize in more coffees/coffee cocktails. Rumba (2nd Flr)- The entertainment floor! There is a separate bar on this floor that will specialize in more Rum based cocktails. Additionally, they will have a wine bar area with wines in tap. Lastly, they will have an open area for live music as well as dancing. Their hope is to have a mix of jazz, club music, salsa dancing options available. Altura (3rd Flr)- This floor is still under construction but will have a rooftop patio. The hope is that this space will be an event space both for public and private events. Back to my experience! My partner and I stopped in for a cocktail and to see what Altavida was about. Our first bartender was very nice but was still getting used to the drink recipes and was leaning on their cheat sheets. While we waited, another bartender kindly told us all about the restaurant and its focus on hospitality. Unfortunately, each bartender had a slightly different explanation of the restaurant's goal concepts which was confusing. We ended up ordering the El Toro and Vaquero (both mezcal drinks). Both were VERY spirit forward to the point that it may have needed better balance. Both drinks had a nice presentation with garnishes, color, and a skull feature at the bottom of the glass. Lastly, we saw many people walk up and look confused as there was no formal host stand. They didn't know if they should seat themselves or wait for someone. Overall, there still seems to be some kinks needing to be worked out as well as some conceptual editing. I feel they are trying to achieve too much and it ends up being confusing for staff and guests. I hope with time, Altavida is extremely successful in the Naperville area and I hope to circle back after some time passes.

They are spicy and have a nice kick. The portion is pretty big and shareable. Last, we had chicken en mole. Omg, so good! They knocked it out of the park with this one. The presentation is very pleasing and the flavor is 10/10! I'm a hot sauce girly and even carry it in my bag just in case. The sauce they had in the dish was so good that I didn't even think about adding hot sauce! The rice and chicken along with the sauce is chef's kiss. I also tried the Brussels sprouts but they were my least favorite of everything. They should go back to the drawing board on that one. The drinks we had were solid. My husband had an espresso martini and dragonfruit margarita, while I had a mango margarita. All were good. Needless to say, I had an amazing evening at Altavida!
