Sadly, a 5 month young tile shower (shower finalized 12/2025) has developed grout cracks, followed by pink mold because the area is not properly graded and water is not draining; furthermore I reached out on April 14th to Ori (expert sales representative) and to-date there hasn't been any type of date, time, and fix for what is a serious mold problem in the shower. I am appalled by the severity level of neglect to resolve this situation. P.S. the wall light mount was crewed on so tightly that it was cracked and left that way, and on 5/29/26 the entire fixture broke apart. Thought this company was professional, would perform due diligence, and it seems quite the opposite. If this continues, legal action will ensue. Hopefully, they will fix the situation. No stars given the quality of their work is lacking. read more

Michael Hovel is very unprofessional and has bad communication. The painters were arrested day 1 so the project was delayed. What should have taken a few days took almost a month. Made no notes about what we wanted and then the guys came out and didn't even know what to do and he told us we needed to tell them everything. That's your job sir. Not my fault you hire staff you can't communicate with. Not with it. Paid way more, said we would get a discount and help them with a promo video but after everything he didn't go through with it because of how messy everything was. Do NOT recommend Michael Hovel. This is a joke of a company. Called me to solicit work, so I allowed them to visit my house to provide a quote for an ADU. They came and wasted an hour and a half of my time. A few days later their office called again (not remembering that they had already visited), asking to come to see my home. Crooks. Promised us the moon, showed us their ass. Told us we could get a longer window installed without measuring outside. Only way to get the longer window would have been to take off the garage roof. Said we had "black mold," would take $13k to remediate. It wasn't the toxic black mold, and remediation consisted of pulling down the drywall tape that wasn't supposed to be used in the bathroom. There was no mold in the walls, at all. All talk, no actual ability to follow through. They have multiple names that they use for setting up appointments, so watch out. I had three different sets of guys come out, all from what where supposed to be different companies. Utter incompetence combined with pure greed and blatant attempt at scamming us. Note that this is All Stars Builders, and not the much more reputable All Star Builders (no "s"). Even the name is a blatant attempt to trick you into thinking they are a much better company. read more

Clown contractors. 2 twirps showed up to my house and gave me a 37K bid for a 5x8 bathroom remodel without even discussing finishes they just told me "there would be an allowance for that". Then they suggested getting mold tested by their friends company which cost me 300 dollars. Dude used a Q tip in the corner of the tub for 2 seconds then split. A couple days later they called and said I had dangerous mold in the bathroom and it's probably spreading.....what a joke. When I told them there would be no deal they said "good luck with the mold problem because it only gets worse". Fast forward a month and we removed the drywall surround for the tub and there's not a single spec of mold. My opinion, this contractor is just looking for gullable people to rip off! read more

Another plus is that you have a team that is tasked to help you through the various stages of your project. One sales rep, project manager, a runner, and a finance specialist if you are financing. They setup a group chat and any issues that come up are addressed either quickly with a phone call or response in the group chat, which is a huge plus. Because our homeowners claim was denied, having permits and fixing the repairs to city code was extremely important to us so that we would not be denied again if all the proper inspections and paperwork was in order. Lastly, they provided proof of their insurance policy (worker's compensation and general liability insurance) in case there were any accidents or damages while the work is being done. This protects all parties involved and gives me peace of mind. There is a con and it's pricing. Less stress comes with a bigger price tag. So going with a builder can cost your budget more upfront, but long term it makes sense to get the job right. In my particular experience I have to remodel our fixer upper home that previously had repairs done to it by the previous owner who made a lot of short cuts to "save" money. They saved money and you can imagine how much more it cost me versus if it was done right to begin with. Here's what I learned through this process about pricing. A bid means a quote, which the builder will come out to give you. If you like the price, you sign the paperwork to get started. If you don't like the price then you can shop around to find something within your budget. I would strongly suggest to plan to budget an additional amount to your project budget because things come up and you don't want to stress over coming up with more money. With that said, would I go through a builder again. Absolutely. The pros outweigh the cons. Especially for the nightmare repairs I had to make because of the previous owner made cheap repairs that turned into a roof that had 5 layers of shingles, 17 solar panels, and a 500 lb air conditioning unit. We desperately needed to fix a leak in our ceiling from the roof. Lastly, we needed to remodel the bathroom to make it more ADA friendly. So I don't blame the insurance company for denying our claim or the builder for charging me more to fix it because it's more work. You are probably wondering how this house is still intact especially after all the crazy weather. The answer is this house is built of redwood. That's when the house project went from Johnny raincloud to little miss sunshine. But quickly went back to Johnny raincloud when black mold was found from the roof leak. So there were a lot of emotions and a lot of processing of information quickly. Then came the added costs and our team from all stars builder really came through for us. Our roof looks incredible. Our solar panels were setup for optimal functionality. No more black mold. But the best part is the bathroom is remodeled exactly how I designed it. Simple, easy to maintain, and clean. The first time they came they sent the wrong person I asked to do patio tile and they sent the person that does pergolas so that was a waste of my time and my husband's time taking off of work to meet with them.
