We recently worked with OC Builders Group, (particularly Sade, Mike, and Casandra) to build a ~323 sq. ft. attached ADU, and we couldn't be happier with the results. From the initial planning phases to the final inspection, the entire team was professional, transparent, and incredibly skilled. Maximizing a smaller footprint (around 320+ sq. ft.) requires smart design, and they nailed it. The craftsmanship is excellent, though the project was delayed (primarily because of additional nuanced city requirements), their communication throughout the construction process kept us at ease. Though not everything went smoothly, they appropriately addressed and rectified any issues that popped up during the construction process. We are currently at about 90% completion on a major home expansion, and I wanted to share how impressed I've been with the process. Being in the engineering field, I'm admittedly not the easiest client--I pay a lot of attention to the technical details and have very high standards, but OC Builders Group has been incredibly accommodating and professional throughout. The conceptual design phase with Moe was great. He helped us navigate a functional design that included adding to the front of the house, extending the back to significantly increase our kitchen space, and adding a bathroom to one of the rooms to create a master bath. After meeting with several contractors, we selected OC Builders since they offered the complete package, provided a thorough outline of what was going to be done, and seemed quite capable handling our scope of work. In short, we had a good overall experience working with them and are happy with the end product. We would definitely work with OC Builders again as well as recommend them to our friends and family. Our Scope of Work (Whole house renovation): Remodel kitchen, bathrooms, added a powder room, took down a couple of walls, replaced all hot/cold water lines, new gas line for the kitchen, replace AC ducts, remove asbestos popcorn ceiling, added storage area to garage, new insulation in the ceiling, upgraded the electrical panel, installed new high efficiency windows, replaced all doors, replaced sliding doors to French doors, new LVF and tile flooring, remodeled the staircase, new landscaping (pavers and privacy wall) in backyard and around the property, new rain drainage, new drip irrigation lines, and complete interior/exterior paint. Working with the team: Sade, our main point of contact, initiated the process and stayed with us throughout the whole project (even when he was on vacation). He was easy to work with, responsive, and offered helpful suggestions for areas that needed troubleshooting. Due to the age of the house and lapse in maintenance there were a few change orders that were required but at each step Sade provided options and explanations, but never gave a hard sell. The work crew led by Robert and Eric did a good job getting all the work done. Both were easy to work, took the time to explained what was going to be done and answered any questions. Both were also quick to return any texts and kept the work moving forward. Quality of Work: We are pleased with the quality of work and final product. When a mistake happened or when something wasn't done correctly, didn't look right, or did not turn out how we wanted the team would repair or replace the item with no fuss. They cared about making sure things were done correctly and to the satisfaction of the customer. The weekly walkthroughs really helped address any problems/concerns early before they became larger problems. What we would've liked done better: Schedule Communication/Coordination was lacking at times. At a couple of stages in the project there was a lack of clear communication on timing of when certain tasks would begin so that various materials would be on order. We had to chase down answers when the schedule indicated one thing but speaking with the crew gave a different answer. We brought up our concerns with Sade who passed it along to the rest of the team and the issue was resolved. Then as the renovation neared completion there was an outstanding item that needed to be addressed and special parts needed to be ordered however we weren't informed of the delay so our initial expectation of when we would be able to start moving in had to be adjusted. A heads up would've been appreciated and allowed us to better accommodate our own schedule. Closing: From initial meeting to final signoff the total project took almost exactly one year. This is quite reasonable considering the scope, approving the drawing plans, meeting with designer/suppliers, pulling permits, demolition, asbestos removal, and actual renovation work (including all city inspections). The interior and exterior of the house look great. The backyard and landscaping look brand new and greatly improved. The home essentially feels like it had a refresh back to day 1 except more modern, efficient, and welcoming. We look forward to enjoying it for many years. We remodeled our kitchen/downstairs, and knocked down two load barring walls, so it was a large project to take on. I couldn't recommend OC Builders enough. They were 10/10 amazing! If you want a one stop shop design and build company- they are the people you want to work with. Dor was our project manager from the beginning to end, and was honest, organized, attentive, RESPONSIVE (that's a big one). Jordy was our designer who made the whole project come to life before it even begun! She had the best insight, and was beyond helpful. They had the most amazing team, that was communicative and organized with their schedule. Full bathroom remodel including demo of old flooring, tub, shower, vanities/counters, lighting and toilet. O.C. Builders installed all new flooring tile, wall tile, tub, shower(frameless glass enclosure installed by recommended (Glass Guys,Inc) installed , vanities/counters, lighting, toilet, wall paper and paint. The scope of work and contractual agreements process went smoothly - as can be expected for this level of complexity, we had several iterations to the definition of what was to be accomplished. The project manager, engineer and administrative team (Dor Pery, Rob Shaw and Maria) had several meetings with us both in person and online before we committed to the contact. O.C. Builders handled the drafting of the drawings, administrative aspects of permitting and having the necessary inspections performed. We bought into the 3D Design portion of the offering and the final construction ended up looking very much like the rending that we were given based on our input. We did not receive much feedback from an "interior decorating " perspective. The contractors employed by O.C. Builders were excellent - Julio and his workers were meticulous and their workmanship was fantastic. The other skilled contractors who also did an excellent job included Tyler , the wallpaper installer; Freddy the stone fabricator (extra charge for special edging); Eric, the cabinet maker who assembled our "Ready to Build" vanities; Alejandro, from Glass Guys. All contractors worked with were reliable and punctual - there was never a day when they did not show up on time. I thought long and hard how to write this review. In the end it's how companies respond and react to you and your project and address any and all issues. These guys did that. In construction there are always bumps along the way. What you need to know is how will your contractor respond to the issues. After starting my add on project I had no idea the depth of the demolition, framing and each piece that needs to be done and organized. It's a LOT and these guys had the experience and workers to get it done. While there were issues along the way they addressed it every time and made me happy. At the end of the day you need a company that has the resources and experience to get it done and they did. I was quite unhappy at times with permitting and quality of work but every time they made good. They finished and cleaned, handled my punchlist asap and got it done. I would have liked them to give me more information on when contractors were coming day to day - they can improve on communication and overall week to week progress. Overall I don't think anyone else would have done better. Jason our day to day guy - awesome! The rest of the workers were really good. read more

I was so pleased with the quality of work that OC Builders offered me and my family. We renovated our home by adding a 15'x15' extension to the living room, remodeling the laundry room, and remodeling the bathroom. We also poured a new back patio and had numerous upgrades like a new electrical box, new tankless water heater, new lighting, and some new plumbing. Everything that OC Builders touched turned to gold. We contacted and researched about 4 firms before going with OC Builders. I really liked that they are a design-build firm, which means they vertically align their contracts and services into one workflow. You'll get one project manager through the entire process for all points of contact and concern, which is amazing to those of us who value efficiency and personalized support. Our project manager was Dor, and he was with us from the very first in-home visit to a year after the project's completion to ensure everything was taken care of. Dor's approachability, concern, expertise, and level-headedness were constant and the centerpiece of our experience. He effortlessly coordinated and communicated, always ensuring that we were up to date, taken care of, and connected to the team. Their team was amazing, whether it was their assistants in the office, Lia in billing, Alma for her interior design, Robert for specialized work, and more. Even the CEO Evan personally reached out when our project was delayed by a few days to iron out the miscommunication. Talk about quality and teamwork. We worked with Sergio and his super-qualified, friendly team for all of the construction. This team was amazing - they were clean, detail-oriented, and friendly. We had just had a baby and were worried about the dust, noise, etc. Whatever the team had control over, they ensured it impacted us minimally. They left the site construction-clean at the end of each day, sealed off areas of the house that were impacted, and were polite, courteous, and friendly with the family and our kids. My son's favorite pretend-play game for many months after the construction was to walk around the new living room with a PlaySkool hammer asking us to address him as 'Sergio.' Sergio and his top-notch team had that big of a positive impact on us. I think that personality, integrity, and communication are so critical for a big job like a renovation. That's why I'm highlighting the quality of the team and their unparalleled service to us. They really lived up to the one-year guarantee and have come out at no expense to fix two or three minor issues. They really could have fought us to ignore those minor issues, but their commitment to the long-term quality of their construction is obviously central to their business model. In terms of the construction quality, we are very impressed, as are the scrupulous members of our family who expect only the best for us and the little ones. They warned us about their own horror stories with contracts not completing work, lengthy permit processes, and more. They were so surprised when we enthusiastically reported that OC Builders shepherded us through the multi-month renovation effortlessly and without any trace of the horror that they had experienced with other firms. In short, we can't imagine life without our renovation and upgrades. I hope the attached pictures show you the before and after as well as the quality of the completed product. There is not much I can detail about the construction that would convince you of its quality except that we passed every single inspection on time and with impressed remarks from the inspectors. We have the in-laws' stamp of approval, and we've been able to enjoy increased quality of life because of OC Builder's painless, integrity-filled, streamlined, personal, and truly remarkable services. I only got through the bidding / estimate portion of the job with OC Builders. They estimated the job before having plans approved and then 6 months later, after getting plans approved, the estimate went up 35% - even though the ADU plans were actually smaller than they had previously estimated. They also retracted what they sold us on during the pre-plan approval estimate - that one of the best parts of working with them was that we'd only have 1 project manager for the entire project (ADU and pool/backyard remodel). Six months later they said they don't do pools, that they used to sub contract them out!! A complete 180 from what they said previously. Very concerning. Beware. read more

Overall, we would not recommend or use OC Builders again. We did a full kitchen and bathroom remodel, with no fixture relocation on either area. So basically just a tear down and facelift. We signed the contract in Feb of 2022. Permits got approved in the beginning of June and demo/work began 3rd week of June. At first everything seemed to go well, but shortly into the project, it became a big headache. Some of the problems we encountered: - Multiple failed inspections with the city, due to lack of basic communication and incompetence. This is very frustrating as it delayed our project multiple times. The lack of communication stemmed from as simple as weatherproofing windows, electrical panels, stucco, each resulting in a separate failure. - When we first interviewed OC Builder, they said they work with crews that have worked with them for a long time so we can trust the quality of the work. However, the crew that was assigned to us have only worked with OC Builders for a short time. That same crew did not know how to do waterproofing of our shower so they had to be let go and a different crew came on board. This caused delays bc that new crew had to demo everything the old crew did. - The lack of cleanliness on the worksite post work day was a big complaint. We had to constantly remind the crew to clean up. After a while we would expect that OC Builders would take the lead and continue to remind the crew. Attempts were made but lackluster at best. There was also some damage done to our floors and dinner table, an annoyance no doubt, to which OC builders did reimburse us for the damages. - We specifically told the tile guy to use a certain grout color and brand and when he did our grout, he decided to use a cheaper grout and had the nerve to tell us that the grout he chose was better. Again, we the client told him what we wanted and he did not do that. - Lack of attention to detail and careless work. Quality seems like a handy man did the work. If looking at completed project, everything looks good. However, close up shows paint job not done nicely, sloppy patchwork, cheap materials (cabinets) were used. Also, our toilet overflowed during construction. When we called a plumber, they showed pictures of bathroom tile from demo in toilet pipe (lack of care when demo). Overall craftsmanship was not up to a certain par with the amount of money that was paid. We feel that the quality would have been the same had we sourced our work to a handy man, doing so we would have saved a lot of money. Now we did address our problems with OC builders during the time of construction and yes, they worked with us and tried to remedy the problems, but overall we were not satisfied with the work that was provided. We believe this project took too long based on how simple it should have been. Understandably things happen during construction that delays projects, but we feel that many of the delays were avoidable and certainly it happened more than once. Bottom line is that we do like our new kitchen and bathroom, but the length it took to get to this level of quality is/was not worth the loss of summer for me and my family. read more

This is an outstanding contractor. We needed to renew our 20 year old balcony and they did an outstanding job. All of the trades they brought in (carpentry, electrical, paint, urethane flooring, glass) were 100% professional efficient and respectful. They all cleaned up our worksite nicely when they had completed each days work. I would especially point out that Sade and Scott who were my project managers were great to work with. First and foremost, if OC Builders said they were going to do something, I slept well at night knowing they would. I cannot overstate how nice it was to never worry if things would get done. We never worried about crews showing up or work being done. People always showed up when they were scheduled to and we were always kept up to date on any scheduling changes. From start to finish, OC Builders Group's communication with us was excellent. There was a daily text sharing the work done that day, the plan for the next day, and the crew's expected arrival time. Any questions or concerns we had were promptly responded to within the group text. Almost without fail, when we sent a text with a question or request, Brianda or Evan would respond within a few hours. It was impressive and an extremely nice experience. Rob and Brian worked with communicating what needed to be done with the crews and were both always willing to answer our questions and brainstorm solutions to the hiccups that come with doing construction. Haim, our project manager, was a DREAM to work with. He always listened to our concerns and made sure they were addressed. It often felt like we didn't even need to fully explain our thoughts because he was so in-tune and just "got it" before we even said anything. Whenever we needed something, Haim made it happen. We would work with Haim again in a heartbeat. When things went wrong, OC Builders was quick to remedy the issue. They were proactive in finding solutions and ultimately always made sure we were comfortable with the resolution. When we wanted things done differently or fixed, OC Builders fixed them without ever pushing back or complaining--no matter how major or minor the issue was. When a delay beyond their control happened, they re-worked the construction schedule and timeline to minimize the impact of the delay and keep things moving. When the paint in the corner of our dining room didn't turn out the way we wanted, they came back to fix it. After purchasing our new home in Rancho Santa Margarita we knew we needed a major remodel before moving in. We've had both good and bad experiences with contractors over the years, and this time we wanted to ensure we found a reputable and high quality contractor. I highly recommend the OC Builders Group! We did a complete home remodel and we began the process back in August 2021. After interviewing 6 different home renovation companies, we went with @ocbuilders - best choice we could have ever made. Everyone on their team are so professional, courteous, knowledgable, and talented with what they do. Not once did we have to ask the questions, "Where is my contractor?", "Where are the workers today?" or "What is being worked on?" because they would text us daily updates, pictures, and plans of what they would be working on the next day. And if we ever did have any questions or concerns, they would respond in a timely manner. We genuinely feel that they cared about our project and about having everything not only up to code, but also beautifully done. Our home was built in 1899 and so it needed a lot of love. It consisted of months of planning, design meetings, and then waiting for permits and once everything was approved, it was only 4 months of construction (because @ocbuilders are AMAZING and have an incredible team) and we finished construction last month. I'd like to add that I was pregnant and later had the baby during this entire process and because of OC builders Group, I was not stressed at all because I knew they had everything covered and our best interests at heart. We could not be more stoked with the results and feel that the process was so easy with the OC Builders Group. Moe was our head contractor and he was incredibly communicative, hands-on, and so wonderful to work with. Our granny flat was completely falling apart, so we opted for a complete rebuild of the 1000 sq. ft. space. After speaking with Haim at OCB, we knew this company was right for us. When choosing a contractor to complete the renovation work to our new home, I diligently examined reviews, bids and any other available materials before making my final selection. I believe I met/spoke/received bids from about 7-9 contractors. While not the lowest bid nor the highest, I ultimately decided to go with OC Builders because of my initial meeting and secondary follow up meeting with Moe. I found that Moe was consistent and detailed. When undertaking such a large project I felt comfortable with his accessibility and responsiveness. What started as a more simple renovation took a life of its own. We started with 2 bathroom renovations and kitchen rehaul. Ultimately we ended up expanding the scope of work to a complete upgrade of electrical, plumbing, new doors, new windows, complete interior paint and floor base molding. Not surprising, there were delays but I recognize our responsibility share for the increased scope of work change. I will start off by saying that we had gotten our job done over a year ago. I didn't post about this because I for some reason couldn't find any kind of poor review and so I thought that I was over reacting and that this was normal. When I finally saw some reviews come out that had similar experiences as us, I realized that I should put a review, not to get anything in return, but in hopes to help people make a better decision. My wife and I hired OC builders group to do an expansion (master bed and bath) and a complete kitchen makeover. At the beginning, they were great. They sent out Moe the salesman and he did his job and sold us. He likes to call himself the project manager, but he didn't manage anything. I wont get into all the details because there is too much to point out but a few problems we encountered were: - Raised prices even when we had asked beforehand if the price wouldn't go up because of certain things happening with building materials - Promises broken even though we had asked multiple times if what they were promising was actually possible which led to even more money Just like the other poor reviews, we had multiple failed inspections due to lack of basic communication. The crew they had hired who they said were the team they worked with the most left an awful mess, damaged our fireplace, dining room chairs, dishwasher and floors. And after all that, I had luckily caught that they had done the measurements of our expansion incorrectly. Moe had assured me that I was wrong and that everything was fine. But of course it was incorrect. To their credit, they did reimburse us for some damages. They fired the crew who they said they had always worked with and was a great team, and brought in another team. When they told us of this change they said that this was their A team. So what was the other team? I will say that this second crew was amazing and they did an amazing job. Unfortunately they were only hired to do the framing of the expansion and didn't do any of the finishing. (cabinets, flooring, patio door, etc.) More problems arose. Grout was selected and we were given the wrong color. They said they would come out to fix and they never did. New glass doors were installed incorrectly and they had to cut my floor to try and salvage the work which left my new floors damaged. Cabinets are still crooked, touch ups that were promised were never done throughout the house. These are just some of the problems. I hope that this helps people to stay away from them as it was a horrible experience. The amount we spent and the time it took to get what we got is not worth it. read more

OC Builders Group quite literally saved my home from collapse! The main structural beam running across my garage cracked length ways across. It was not easy finding a contractor; let alone one I felt would be competent. From the moment I met Moe, when he came to my home, my mind was put at ease. Coming to my home and treating me & my project as worthy was a big plus! The contract was done the day we met, collaboratively we specified terms and time frame on Docusign. Since my project was a safety concern Moe moved it to the front of the queue. I now know OC Builders can do any project; I wish I had known that and went to them immediately. I had hired my own engineer, but using OCBG would've been easier and I could've avoided such a wide beam with a divot to allow my furnace vent space. All the workers were pleasant, knowledgeable/experienced, and I felt safe with them. After the project my bathroom door now closes once again (it is directly over the garage) I am dreaming of remodeling my master bathroom and when I do, I want Moe to design it. He has an amazing eye, is an architect, and really knows construction. This company is very good with communication and follow through. Their goal is to have a happy customer. In addition , it was super easy to pay OCBG, I think we did it electronically on Quickbooks (???), but of course you can pay how you like. Garage conversion with total of 388 sq ft. Tal was involved in the whole process and explained every step of the way. Planning, architect, blue prints, revisions, 3D rendering, city permit, revisions and finally construction. Then handed over to Evan and Daniel overseeing the construction along with construction foreman Nick. On site almost daily and knows his stuff. Definitively a challenging project with only 388 sq ft to fit a bedroom, bath, kitchen and living room. The end result is spacious, open and welcoming home. Plumbing was another big item since it had to be connected to the main house's street and not the garage street. They figured it out and made it work. Appliances and side gates pictured not included in the scope. They did a great job and so glad we chose OC Builders. Highly recommended! OC Builders remodeled our master and guest bathrooms and they turned out great! Our project involved moving a wall and almost completely redoing the plumbing and electrical in the two rooms. That work was done quickly and to code. Their tile work is also excellent and the cabinets and fixtures are beautiful. Friends have commented that their work is so good that the home looks like it was built with the bathrooms in this layout. Our project manager, Haim, was attentive to our needs and on top of everything during construction. He is very easy to work with, as was the construction crew. When we decided to do an extensive home remodel, we met with about a dozen general contractors to find one that could handle our project and also stay within our budget. After meeting with Moe, OC Builders immediately jumped to the top of our list and they have met our expectations every step of the way. Moe has been doing this a long time and has a lot of examples and ideas that helped in the planning phase; He's continued to help along the way with anything that comes up and is very easy to talk to. Our project was a complete house remodel with two areas of additions. This included a new and enlarged kitchen, completely renovated bathrooms, expanded new living room with gas fireplace and a defined foyer with a new front door. For many years we heard horror stories about contractors that would inflate costs after construction started, not show up to work when expected -causing long delays, or do work that was low quality and not what was promised. OC Builders gives daily updates and is great at communicating what was worked on and what is coming up. One of the initial things we liked was their team is able to create a 3D design before construction begins to show you exactly what everything will look like when it's done. This was a tremendous help to allow us to see what works and what needed to be changed before making final decisions. OC Builders is arguably the premiere one-stop concierge design, development and construction Group in OC. We used them to completely gut and remodel our 1970s era kitchen. A well-oiled machine, they have a process that has been refined over many years to approach each new project in a highly organized workflow. They sub-contract with all the various trades needed for a major home remodel - design/architecture, granite, carpentry/cabinetry, plumbing, electrical etc, so you only have one point person to work with who communicates and coordinates all activities. We never had to worry about anything - it was simply taken care of; any questions or concerns we had were immediately addressed. We lived in our home while our kitchen was being remodeled - start to finish it was a full year, but time flies and they made the process as comfortable and pain-free as they humanly could. Before we moved in, they sent Adriana in to clean our new kitchen to a shiny sparkle, so all we had to do was unbox and move back in. This started out to be a difficult job. Plumbing, electrical, drywall, garage door and motor install, with county inspections all went so smoothly, it was unbelievable. A tenant installed an illegal hair salon in a third car garage during covid19. So there was tension and irritation vibes constantly, but no problem for Sade and OC Builders. They kept the pressure on, just the right amount, to push and get the job done. They were professional, on time, did what they said they were going to do and within the time frame promised. You always hear about what a nightmare working with a contractor can be. Delays, overcharging, bad communication...the list goes on and on! I went with O.C. Builders primarily because they gave me a list of approximately 20 references to past recent jobs. I talked to 3 random references, and they all had glowing reviews about the company, particularly about the communication with the team. One of the references even invited us over to look at their remodel because they were so happy with the results! O.C. Builders quote was right in the middle of all of the quotes that I had received (roughly $100K for labor...I supplied all material at around $50K). I was not only surprised, I was astonished how smoothly my renovation went with O.C. Builders!! From the very beginning of the quotation phase, to the final touch up at the end of the project, I was totally impressed by the team at O.C. Builders. I am a Real Estate Investor with multiple houses. I have my own fully captured contractor and management company to rehab my houses. I only wish that O.C. Builders was in Indiana where all of my houses are. Haim, Robert, Eric, Lia, Brianda and Evan were my contact points throughout the process and they never left me hanging. I went the self design route, because I know I just would have driven the staff crazy, because I am very particular, especially in my own house. The only delays in the project were because of long lead items, that I ordered, that took longer than expected due to supply chain issues. O.C. Builders quoted a 2 month timeframe and the job would have been done in 6 weeks if all of my tile and furniture arrived on schedule. As it was, the job took a little under 3 months. They worked with my delays without breaking stride, accommodating every delay I threw at them. Their were a couple of change orders, which are inevitable with any renovation job, but they were handled effectively and reasonably priced. I retiled the bottom floor of my 2800 square foot house, refinished the wood floor on the top floor, remodeled the Kitchen and Powder Room, completely remodeled a downstairs Bathroom, replaced carpet on my stairway with wood stairs and had multiple light fixture changed out and added. I would like to comment on the couple of negative reviews for O.C. Builders on Yelp. As I was not on the job site for these projects, I can only comment on my past experience with contractors. There is always a core group of workers that are part of the company, and there are subcontractors that are used to fill in. Some are excellent and some are not. The only way to vet these contractors is to check references and give them a shot. When O.C. Builders found out that the contractors were not doing a good job, they fired them and worked with the homeowners to correct the issues. Shit happens!! I would think that these homeowners were not as involved as they should have been during the project, especially not communicating their displeasure effectively or as soon as possible. It seems that all of the problems that occurred stemmed from the subcontractors. This is always a potential issue. The homeowner needs to be involved at all facets of the job. I personally stayed at the house during construction, overseeing every part of the job. Was I a pain in the ass... definitely!!! But that is what needs to happen to have the job run smoothly. There were a couple of missteps along the way, but they were handled quickly and effectively. If you see something, SAY SOMETHING!! Just my opinion. In conclusion, I would highly recommend O.C. Builders to anyone who is doing the type of renovation that we did. From what I saw, I have no doubt that they are excellent at larger jobs as well. We did look at one of their whole house renovations in progress before we signed the contract. Robert, their in house construction Guru walked us through it. We hired OC Builders for our major home remodel. When I say major, I mean MAJOR. Only one wall of the house remained un touched. Everything else was either shortened, knocked down, expanded or modified. While taking on a major remodel in the middle of a pandemic and supply shortage wasn't ideal, OC Builders certainly did all they could to help get us to the finish line and went above and beyond to make sure that we were taken care of when things went sideways or were outside of anyone's control. OC Builders remodeled my 1964 upstairs bathroom about 1 month ago. Tal and his group did a great job from start to finish. The demo was kept to the bathroom and managed to keep the hallway clean.
