We decided to visit for our friday pizza night. It was a perfect choice. The location is wonderful over looking the water. The service was wonderful. We chatted with the manager who was very kind and gracious. There were 4 of us including our toddler. Who liked being outside more than at our table . Making it simple we had a plain cheese pizza for our daughter who said it was "the best pizza ever" (we need to take her to ). The adults had a sausage pizza, and we shared the arancini and a caesar salad. I wished they had the calamari on the menu. The pizza and arancini were delicious, but I would not order the arancini again. For the price point the salad was disappointing. I think that when the prices are higher so should be the standard on all things, so fresh black pepper and fresh grated cheese, that you can see, anchovies, eggs, with at least fresh caesar dressing as the inventor intended . It had no umami so it was a disappointment. I also had a white sangria that was delicious. Yes yes yes yes yes! There were so many good things about our experience at All Purpose! We arrived at about 6 pm on a Saturday, with two sporting events at the same time. So I should have been prepared for the crowds and long wait times. We decided to bypass the waits by going straight to the bar area. The seating is limited but it's a great option if the wait is long. The service is quick even at the bar. We ordered two pizzas, the brussel sprouts, and Caesar salad. Everything was pretty spot on. The pizzas are pretty pricey, about $20 a pop..... The food is tasty but the price will sneak up on you. Additionally we got the devil margarita and the purple slushy drink. WOOWWW get slushy please! We walked in last night after the Nats game and grabbed seats at the bar. Allen made an effort to chat and get us drinks while happy hour was still going on, even suggesting the happy hour pizza to my husband. I got a gluten free Salsiccia on Allen's suggestion and it didn't disappoint. (Also, didn't get sick from the pizza. I really appreciate the care All Purpose puts into caring about food allergies and restrictions.) Great flavor. Sausage and peppers complimented each other well. Wow! This pizza place was great for my first date after graduation. My brand new girlfriend, Gwali, loved the coffee cake and nearly spilt it over traditional Senegalese wear. Her IBS acted up and so we cut short first instagram photos together (almost Facebook official!). However there was one issue. An obnoxious guy next to us (Dan? Bran? Sam?) kept bragging about how cool McLean is and giving our server a hard time. He took forever to choose if he wanted a grapefruit mimosa or a regular mimosa. He called himself a mini-baller and said it was "totally a thing" and then acted out parts from the movie, The Wolf of Wall Street. He repeatedly confused confused Matt Damon and Leonardo Dicaprio while his friends stupidly nodded along. Gwali demanded that I fight for her because Matthew McConaughey is her favorite actor. It was then when I pushed up my glasses and pulled up my suspenders and almost confronted the McLean guy. However my Enzo pizza came along and I couldn't help but stuff my face. We decided to have a quick, impromptu lunch here before a baseball game. We had ninety minutes, which was plenty of time for pizza and a drink. There was a quick, ten-minute wait for a table, so we assumed that the service would be as efficient, but unfortunately, it wasn't so--we were given a table and four glasses of water, and that was it. We waited fifteen minutes as the servers waited on tables around us, exchanging friendly banter with customers who had already eaten. As the clock ticked, we decided not to gamble on putting in an order and ate at the ballpark instead. Bottom line? After a long Nats games, a sign that reads "pizza and beer" will without a doubt lure you along straight to All Purpose Riverfront. Heck, even before a Nats game or on a random Monday, it will attract you. After All Purpose's successful debut in Mt Vernon Square a few years ago, the owners decided to capitalize off of Navy Yard's development (new condos, Audi Field, splash parks, Washington Gas' new building) and open a river front restaurant. If you frequent Yards Park, their location may seem a bit odd. It's in a condo building right across the street from the Nats Stadium. If you walk to Salt Line, you'll probably overlook it since it's right around the corner. Just follow the "pizza and beer" sign. The space itself is beautiful. It maintains a DC vibe while adding in some riverfront decor. There's plenty of indoor seating and a bar inside that opens at 5pm for dinner. If you get there at 4pm, don't worry. The outdoor patio is open and is already serving one of the best happy hours in SE DC. Draft cider and beers are $5 and panzerottis are only $5. If you go for dinner, pizza is what they are known for. They whip up some of the best pies in all of DC. If pizza is not your jam, don't worry. They have many other dishes to choice from including some great pastas. Rumor has it that soon their rooftop bar will open overlooking the Anacostia River. Maybe Navy Yard IS worthy of their recent "one of the coolest neighborhoods in the world" title. read more

I rarely write about a restaurant more than once but last was my anniversary of dating my wife for the past 15 years. Of all the restaurants in the city we wanted to visit one of our favorites pizza places All-Purpose. This was our first time to this location. We've ordered for pickup tons of times over the past year but thanks to this location we were able to sit outside under the tent, heat lamps included right next to the water. Such a treat! If you're a dog lover I think all the dogs in the city live in the attached buildings because it's a perfect dog/people watching location. So for food...of course we had our fave Buono pizza. What I love is the consistency across both locations. Gooey cheese, honey, perfectly cooked crust and the thick pepperoni makes this pizza a hit! One gem we found during our covid take out breaks were the wings. I feel like I'm a wing connoisseur and they were soooo good! They're fried to perfection with the Calabrian honey drizzled on them along with Parmesan and lemon. What a combo! And to top it off a feta ranch dipping sauce yummmmmm! Lastly, we enjoyed the fried brussel sprouts. They are always apart of our order. Mixed with onion, red peppers atop whipped goat cheese and bread crumbs...don't cheat yourself treat yourself! Thanks to our server and hostess that made it a point to make our evening special and congratulate us in our years together. Our orders came up a little on the late side, but its fine. They have tons of pizza options and it can be either hit or miss. Ask your waitress for clarification as some pizzas are seasonal and change from time to time. I came here with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. The staff here are friendly. However, their pizzas are okay. Nothing too special. Definitely order pizza with tomato sauce as their white pizzas are missing that zesty tomato sauce kick. I highly recommend their garlic knows. Its pretty good as the portions are good for sharing. However, their pricing is a bit high, but thats expected in the busy DC area. Having been to the Shaw location, I was super excited to see All Purpose expanding and opening a location in Navy Yard. The location is top notch! It is right around the corner from The Salt Line and has a lovely outdoor space overlooking the river. The inside is slightly cramped but chic and modern nonetheless. We made reservations on Resy for 7:30pm and were able to be seated 15 minutes early upon arrival. The patio, of course, is first come-first served, and I can anticipate it being super hard to get into come the summer months. Wes was our server and he was efficient and friendly. We were one of his first table and then shortly after we ordered, he was sat with three new tables, including a large party, practically at once so we didn't see too much of him after we ordered. We were, however, easily able to obtain crushed red pepper and parm from a nearby server/food runner. Some of the menu items made the transition to Navy Yard, but much of the menu is brand-spanking new! We chose to split two pizzas-the Sedgewick and the Apollo. I love the Buona but since I've had that at AP in Shaw, I figured it's time to branch out. The pizzas came out pretty quickly and looked fabulous. The Sedgewick had whipped ricotta, mozz, tallegio, parm, truffle honey, and chives. This was a good white pie, but I'll be honest, I missed having meat! I did love the creamy ricotta and the sweetness of the honey which also infiltrated the crust, which also had a sweeter taste. The Apollo had tomato, caciocavallo, porchetta, broccolini, cherry peppers, and toasted sesame. I loved the peppers and the porchetta was a nice twist. It had good flavor and spice but had heavy onions, which was not listed in the description, and I did not see any broccolini (maybe they subbed the onions....?). We came by to visit this place as we are waiting to see Lady Gaga in her chromatica ball Concert when she was visiting DC. We ordered the Buona pizza which was really great. They have other great selections for pizzas and cocktails. It's very difficult to park around the area given the limited parking spaces. The service staff were very quick and had us seated. The restrooms were very clean. Even if we arrived 15 minutes before their closing time, they still accommodated us very well. I didn't notice when I purchased, but after looking at my receipt I was charged 3 dollars to NOT put bacon on the pizza. Very strange. I strongly dislike establishments engaging in shady pricing. Sedgewick pizza was delicious!! The mixture of cheese-saltiness and honey-sweetness actually worked really well. And the whole wheat crust was perfection, very thin and soft but also crispy. It felt "healthy" without losing any of the rich, indulgent flavors. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the pizza itself, but the prices, well, definitely a bit overpriced... Hence, docking 1 star. $20 for a 12-inch pizza (and thin crust at that) is pretty steep... $15 would've been more reasonable. Luckily, it was a beautiful evening so the wait wasn't too bad. After an hour wait, we were finally seated. Ambiance (5/5): Their outdoor patio was nicely decorated and overlooked the waterfront. In addition, it was very spacious-- tables were more than 6ft apart from other guest. Overall, a casual ambiance! Service (5/5): Upon arrival the hostess was very kind and accommodating. Every single staff member was wearing gloves and masks. There were no paper menus available-- we had to use our phones to launch the menu. Overall, I was very impressed with how they operated during Covid-19. Every single one of us were comfortable with our dining experience. Our waitress was attentive and answered any questions we had. She has also made my friends birthday special, by bring out a dessert with a lit candle. Food (4/5): My boyfriend and I ordered the Riverdale and Sonoma pizzas paired with the Mario frozen cocktail and an Aperol Spritz. The drinks were super tasty and refreshing. I personally liked the Sonoma pizza more than the Riverdale. The garlic spinach and artichoke gave it a unique bite. I loved the crust, it was crispy yet doughy at the same time. The only reason why I am knocking off a star is due to the pricing. I personally think the pizzas were small considering they cost $20 per. You are definitely paying more for the ambiance. For two cocktails and two pizzas our price came to $85 (including tax and gratuity). Overall, All Purpose did not disappoint. My gluten free friends: you're in for a treat! Let me start of by saying how hard it is to come across gluten free options, especially at restaurants; let alone ones that serve pizza. This was such a delicious meal from start to finish! Their gf (chickpea) crust was delicious, soft yet crispy, and a perfect compliment to my pizza. The ingredients here are so fresh and flavorful. I found a new love for beets and Brussels sprouts thanks to a leap of faith! We arrived on a beautiful Saturday evening excited to try their pizzas and food. We were seated promptly and our waiter took our drink orders. Just FYI the wine pours are not generous. The waiter stated that they give 5 oz. pours. It was maybe a 3 oz. pour. Arancini: The flavor was decadent and pleasing to the palette especially once you submerge it into the marinara sauce. Marinara sauce is an extra 3$. It didn't come out quickly and had to be asked for twice. The eggplant parmesan came out cheesy and rich. It was a bit overwhelming for some of our party due to the heavy dose of cheese, but it was edible nonetheless and a great appetizer choice. It can be shared by 2 people. The pizza was the main attraction (allegedly). We enjoyed the zesty tomato sauce, but felt like the cheese was lacking. We did ask for extra cheese when we first ordered, but of course it did not come out with extra cheese. Odd that they loaded the eggplant with cheese, but not the pizza. The pizza was definitely overpriced and overhyped. The ambiance was nice by the water, and the crowd was well behaved. The bill did come with a 20% gratuity already added on. So please keep this in mind if you are dining here. We felt like 15% was an adequate tip for the service considering they forgot our extra cheese and the marinara sauce had to be asked for twice. I as the customer decide how much tip you deserve, you have no right to impose any tip on me. Anytime you dine by a waterfront destination keep in mind the price you pay for what you get isn't going to be fair. It was overpriced for the quality you got. For the price we paid we could of got 8 pizzas from Pizza Hut, fully loaded with toppings, wings, breadsticks and let's not forget the Cinnabon delights. Ordered the fried mozzarella, server asked if we wanted an extra piece because it comes with three pieces and there were 4 of us... said for a small charge ($4 extra for one piece). Average food let down by poor service that seems to have become the norm at Navy Yard. Hostess was clearly saving most of the outdoor tables for invisible people or all of the reservations canceled. Appetizers were embarrassingly bad, especially the "crudo" which was salmon paste and not as described. Other apps were overpriced and poorly presented. As for the mains, $20 for noodles with bland red sauce is a joke. The pizzas were at least decent. We used to love the Shaw location but this was the worst $200+ meal I can remember. Avoid. read more
