Of course my car decided to die on the freeway during one of the worst storms we have seen in a very long time. Fortunately I was able to get to the side of the road safely. Ok, breathe. What now? Call AAA. Yes, great. Just one thing...my wallet is in the trunk and I am on the side of a very busy freeway. I am sure all the passers-by got a good laugh at me crawling over to the passenger seat so I could exit safely. In fact, once I got to work one of my co-workers asked if the was me on the side of the road. Not embarrassing at all. Ok, now the big question; where do I have my car towed to? I remembered one of my co-workers telling me his has a fantastic mechanic. I got the information to the shop. The owner, Tarek didn't even hesitate when he said have her towed here. I felt so relieved. I knew whatever happened was bad. My car has never failed me but she has 200k miles on her and she just flat out died. Tarek informed me he may not get to take a look at her that day. Totally understandable. To my surprise I got a call in the afternoon and it wasn't sounding good, just as I had suspected. My timing belt was shredded and it may have caused a lot of damage. We decided to move forward to fix it by putting in a new belt and seeing the results. The car was up and running in a couple days and has now been running smoothly for over 6 months. I'm so happy that a car I love so much is now back on the road and continuing to make me smile. This is a non-standard install, something many shops won't do. But Tarek wasn't phased. He worked with me to position the pedal to my liking, then got to work. He kept me posted during the install via text, letting me know when I could expect him to finish. He completed in just a few hours (I was prepared to leave my car overnight). Once Terry even drove me back to work after I dropped off my car and gave me the guarantee that he would get my car fixed that day, or otherwise drive me back to my house after work. In addition to being dependable, Terry is honest and always willing to walk through his service with you so you know exactly what he did (great for those of us that know little about cars). I high recommend All Automotive. Terry is extremely nice, the work is done really quickly, and the prices are reasonable. He explains what he wants to do and why, and if you need several things done and are short of cash, he'll prioritize with you what needs to be done now and what can wait for a bit. Usually when I call, Terry tells me to come straight down. He's close to Google, LinkedIn, American Century, CPP, etc, so if you work at any of those it's literally a 5 minute journey. The longest I've had to wait to get my car back is overnight, and that's been when I've taken it in in the late afternoon. If I drop it off any time before about 11, I get it back the same day. Just called to ask if they worked on exhaust leaks. He proceeded to tell me it is due to broken engine mounts and the exhaust manifold was cracked, without getting any more information or even looking at the vehicle! I told him I already know where the leak is (flange between front pipe and manifold). I've had it diagnosed by a mechanic friend previously who hasn't had time to help me fix the problem. 10-6-09 There was a nagging slow leak in one of my tires that I avoided having repaired for over a month. Finally I called Terry at All Automotive. To my surprise, he repaired the tire while I waited! I was in and out within 15 minutes. I can't believe I waited this long to call him. Note: From the street, the front of the shop looks like an office complex. The shop is actually in the rear of the building. 10-8-09 Update: The same tire flat again this morning. Back to same old routine of starting my morning with a visit to the filling station to put air back in my tire. Note to self, never ever allow tires to be repaired using the old T-handle & string plug method. It NEVER works. It should always be patched from the inside. read more

A few weeks ago, I came back to my car and found that the battery had completely died from being parked outside for over a month. I searched for car repair shops nearby and called All Automotive. Terry generously offered to drive over with a portable battery charger to help me out. After finding me and jumping my car, I followed him back to the shop so he could inspect the battery. He verified that the battery was picking up charge and helped it charge back up for 10-15 minutes by holding the accelerator down in place in neutral. He gave me clear instructions on how to get it back to normal (drive around for ~1 hour, keep the A/C and radio off). All in all, Terry is honest and provides great service. A friend recommended Terry to me. So when my check engine light turned on, I took my car to him, and I was really impressed. He started working on it right away, and spent a couple hours on it. Turns out my EGR passageway was plugged up with carbon deposits. He explained the problem to me, walked me through the options and explained what it would take to clean it. He priced the total cost at $300 less than what my Dad had to pay for the same repair on his car. My car is old, and although the cost was reasonable, it was still more than 1/2 my car's value. I explained the situation to him, he understood, and didn't charge me for the labor he'd already done! Even after I offered to pay twice. I've never had a mechanic do that for me! I have gone to Terry Bayegan for my 3 cars over the last 13 years. I have found him to be totally honest, frugal, and friendly. He has done both major and minor work on my cars, and I have always found his work durable, and totally trustworthy. He's charged me for parts at cost or close to it, and even done minor repairs for free "because it's not a big repair, really". Somewhat of a throwback, he believes that cars can be for life if cared for properly, and has always advised me accordingly. He often advises against doing costly fixes unless necessary, and is a strong advocate for prevention. To the extent possible, he gets work done the same day, so I can drop off the car, walk over to work, and in the evening walk back and pick it up -- or he gives me a ride if I'm busy. He treats people like family, and loves cars. Highly recommended. read more

He never does work the car does not need, he always uses genuine branded parts, he always has a loaner available if I call ahead, and, yes, he will prioritize work if you need that help. He has a special routine that he performs on all the cars that enter his shop; I dropped by to have my new plates installed and he insisted on doing his ritual: check the fluid levels, check the brakes, check the tire pressure--I'm sure there's more. No charge, of course. He is just the best--he has even been known to give refunds for work that did not resolve the problem.
