But if u are looking for a mechanic you could trust, Chad is the guy for you. I am referred here from a friend in a car meet. My suv is shaking during braking and I brought it to Chad. After I left the shop about one hour, chad texted me that he replicate the issue, found the reason, and give me a quote for the fix. My Q3 got a check engine light right after warranty and when I checked with the diagnostic device that the code was for intake manifold. The dealer cost was high as expected and I was looking into some one reliable, Looking at Yelp I found Chad with stellar reviews (this was 2018 or 19). I reached out to him, and he was patient and polite, gave me the quote which was around half of dealership. Audi recommended to try something else before replacing the manifold (I remember Chad recommending changing the manifold directly). On my insistence we changed the other part and the problem resurfaced in a couple of days, after which we changed the manifold. This was done around 3+ years back and the car is working fine since. At some point in 2020, Audi sent me a letter that they will cover the manifold failure for 10 years and will reimburse me the cost if already repaired. I reached out to Chad asking for detailed receipt as required by Audi, and he was prompt and courteous (even though he was not getting anything out of it). It has been few years now; the car is working fine and Audi did sent me the check for the work done. I am writing this review to add my great experience with Chad. Chad's shop is the first non dealer shop I went and I'm 100% satisfied, quick and fair price. I left my car there for maintenance at noon and picked it up at 4. Last year, my bmw's free warranty expired and I went to a local dealership and was shocked by the maintenance cost there. I had 3 broken lamps and the mechanics there charged me 250 for each ($6 for fixing the lamp and 250 for labor), if it is $250 for labor I'd be like not too bad, but they charge 250 labor for fixing each lamp. Chad is fast, reliable, and dependable. I had bought lowering springs from Tirerack for my A4, and it took less than half a day to install and align by this 1-man show. With installation and alignments, Chad's estimate still came in 20% cheaper than Wheelworks who offered only installation. Finding this place will probably be your most difficult experience with Performance European. This garage is located in a long building that houses probably four to five other auto shops. All were poorly labeled. The only way that I found Chad was the Beamers and Audis lined up directly in front. Also, his place is poorly lit, so someone get him a 100W lamp. I'm not here to judge the aesthetics of Chad or his shop. I used to work a lot on cars, and I trust his judgement. This guy gets the job done at an affordable price. read more

Well I've known Chad at Performance European through a previous shop he worked at and through Car Meets. After much procrastination I took my car in for much needed work on replacing my brakes. As well as water pump, replacing hoses and flushing the coolant system. He did a great job and also gave a awesome an awesome price. Chad did a great job replacing my boxster battery and oil change a few years ago. Today, I noticed my battery was dead due to not driving it most of 2020. Called up Chad for advice and he walked me through what to do and even face timed with me to make sure I was doing it right. When my charger didn't work, he offered to let me borrow his. At the end of a long day got the boxster running great again, but what a hassle and could have been much much worse without Chad's help. It's nice to be able to check that "my mechanic" box knowing you have a trustworthy mechanic you can call or bring your car to and not have that sinking feeling that you may be told to do some repairs that you don't know if you really need or not. I agree with another reviewer about dealing with a small shop versus a large shop or dealership, if you are lucky enough to have a guy like Chad running the show, there is no comparison. I brought one of my cars into a larger shop and they had a trainee working on my car, it made me a bit uncomfortable, but the job was fairly simple, so it was okay, it was only later that I realized I had missing clips and an assortment of different nuts and bolts that replaced my OEM nuts and bolts. Not cool! I have not and don't anticipate I will ever question the bill because I trust Chad. Quality work and honesty goes a long way. read more

Chad at Performance European gets the job done, does it right, and charges the most reasonable prices I've ever come across. As if that isn't enough, he's also a genuinely nice guy! I first went to Performance European based on a friend's strong recommendation, and Chad definitely lived up to the hype. Although I went in with a laundry list of things I wanted to get replaced/repaired, Chad thoroughly inspected everything and actually advised that I NOT replace certain parts that were in good shape. You probably don't need me to tell you that integrity like that is hard to come by in this business. The 2nd and most recent time I went to Chad (for a brake pad and fuel filter change), he discovered that I needed to replace the valve cover gasket on my 2001 Honda Prelude. Since it was so last minute (plus, it was Saturday), I wouldn't have minded if he told me that I'd have to wait a few days until the part came in. Instead, he drove to a local Honda dealership to personally pick up the part and finished all the work the same day. Awesome. As I'm leaving the Bay Area in a few weeks, I can only hope that I'll be able to find another mechanic who provides this caliber of service. I asked Chad to take a look at my car when I started it one day and a bunch of lights came on. I suspected that an animal had chewed on some wires (yes, my neighborhood is like that) but I couldn't find the problem anywhere. He was very good about keeping me in the loop and always answering the phone, and he checked with me before performing any work. That aspect of his service was top-notch. However, he first replaced the speed sensor "because the module wasn't getting a signal, and this is where you start." Despite reservations I decided it was cheap enough and I had him proceed. After replacing that there was still no signal, so he decided the entire ABS module must be bad, a $1000 part. I ended up getting it fixed the day at another shop. The problem? Two wires had been chewed through by an animal, and it was fixed with $5 of butt connectors. The quality of the work performed was good, and his prices are reasonable, but I can't recommend his troubleshooting skills. read more

PE is a great place to take your car in for service. Like the other reviewers, I agree...Chad is reasonable and honest with his work. I had a brake issue (one of many issues on my crappy VW, but that's another review for another time) and brought it in to him. He took a look and explained what I needed to do to get rid of it on my own. I would have given PE 5 stars if the shop hours were more convenient. It's hard to find a mechanic that you can really rave about. Chad at Performance European was great though. My husband's Audi A4 was diagnosed with a broken torque converter. The "check engine" light stayed on perpetually and since torque converters are a transmission issue, we were getting really worried. The dealership gave us an estimate of almost $4,000. Another shop gave a slightly lower estimate, but same ballpark. Some shops said it was too complicated a job and did not want to bother. Chad gave us a quote that was significantly lower than the lowest bid we had! And he came through. He ordered the part right away and completed the job in two days without any delays. He charged us exactly what he quoted--no hidden fees. We had come to pick up the car in my Lexus IS 250, which incidentally needed an oil change. We told Chad about it and he got it done on the same day, in fact, within the next two hours! Again, his price was a lot more reasonable than what I pay at the dealership for an oil change. Overall, we were very happy with Chad's professionalism, with the fact that he tells you up-front what you are going to pay (no surprises), and that he gets the job done quickly. I feel a bit bad for giving 4 stars instead of 5, but I know I will be a repeat customer. I was referred to Performance European by 2 friends of mine who both have/had Audis, so I figured I'd give it a try. I needed to get my tie rod ends replaced and my mechanic is in Brentwood, but I wanted to get the work done immediately as I feeling a lot of play in the steering. When I dropped off my car, it felt a little weird giving him the key and leaving without an initial estimate or some type of paperwork, but I thought of my two friends who brought their cars in. I mean, I had to get the work done. It is what it is and Chad seems a trustworthy mechanic. He finished my car in less than a day and he was good in calling and keeping me informed on my car (I know of one shop in San Mateo that didn't bother to call me - I had to keep calling them). Anyways, I'd definitely go back to Chad , though I'm still loyal to my mechanic in Brentwood. Reason for the 4 stars.... I asked for a copy of the alignment report and Chad couldn't produce a copy. He offered to bring my car back to the contracted alignment shop, but that was too much hassle for me (having someone help me drop off and pick up my car). I'm pretty anal when it comes to service paperwork, so was a bit disappointed about that. I really wanted to know how bad my car was prior to the alignment. read more

I had my mom bring in my car to fix and even she had a very good opinion of his sincerity, motivation, and honesty to fix my car. (and you know how moms have that 6th sense about good/bad people-- lol!) Anyways, I had an accident with my wheel and blew off the tire. I went to my dealership first to see what they would say about my car (and the dealership tried to rip me off as usual, saying I had to replace THREE wheels), so I took my car to Chad to have him look at it. I knew of Chad through a friend's roommates friend (lot of networks...lol). I initially went to Dyno Spot Racing in San Jose where he slapped some coilovers on my car about 8 years ago. Shortly after that, he tuned the ECU on my then want-to-be race car. Quality work done back then. I have since went to him for small minor repairs. Again, quality work. I have a 2001 VW Jetta that just likes to cause me trouble. One day, on my way to class, the temperature indicator warning light came on. Last time that happened, the water pump needed to be replaced. As you can imagine, I was not happy. Luckily, I was close to Performance European. I drove in and told Chad my situation. He checked the coolant and said it was very low. He added coolant (the VW pink stuff) and said that there is probably a leak, but I should be okay to get to class. My 1995 M3 was in dire need of a suspension overhaul. I purchased aftermarket coil overs and a variety of OE/aftermarket suspension components. The problem I had was finding a shop that could do aftermarket performance part installs on my car, good general knowledge of BMW's, and be within a reasonable distance from home. After scouring Yelp, I came across Chad's shop and found that he could meet my checklist of requirements, however I will admit that I had some doubts about this shop before I had the work done. I've never dealt with one man operations before, but decided to take a leap of faith based on the great Yelp reviews. Chad blew away all my expectations. He was very professional and found some additional problems with my car, and gave me an honest assessment of how to proceed. His work was impeccable and pricing is very reasonable for this level of work. Its not easy to find a good mechanic that will let you supply your own parts and charge reasonable rates, but I believe I've found that shop in Performance European. A mechanic who listens. He listens to what you want done and how much you want to spend. He also listen to your input and ideas, you are with the car 24/7 maybe you have a clue as to what is going on. I think because of this I think Performance European is the best deal in town. If you want and example: I had a check engine light for a minor evaporation leak. The book said replace an expensive $350 dollar part and anywhere else I would have wasted $500 dollars. But he listened and took it seriously when I said I smelled gas in the back of the car. We found a badly installed CD changer had pierced the plastic gas tank with a screw years ago. And when it was removed the leak occurred. Once again Chad took the time to give me a choice buy a new tank or plug the whole with epoxy which might not fix it and cause me to pay for the labor twice. With all the diagnostics and discussions he still fixed the issue for under $200! A year later it is perfect. If you want to control your repair costs and process come to Performance European. Performance European is excellent. Suddenly, on a hot Saturday afternoon, my ABS Brake 4x4 warning lights all came up on my dash and it was approaching a long weekend. Called around different shops that either had no availability, no expertise, or quoted double the estimated cost. During the initial phone call, Chad had a rough idea of the problem AND was able to suggest a solution that was half the cost. He said that instead of replacing the whole transfer case actuator for $900, just replace the gear for $400 which is the root cause of a problem common to X3s and X5s. He diagnosed the problem, suggested a better alternative, AND had experience fixing it. His phone diagnosis was correct. He was professional, speedy, honest, and responsive as a one-man shop. Chad is a fantastic guy. I bought a BMW from a private seller a year ago. The previous owner had upgraded the rims and tires. The problem was that he didn't take into account that the car did not have a sport suspension, so if you throw the car into a corner too fast, the tires will hit the body. I figured the only option I had was to redo the entire suspension. Given the number of great reviews, I gave Chad a call and brought the car around. He had a look and recommended a much more affordable option. The work was done quickly and was very reasonably priced. I bought some EBC Red Stuff pads and was unable to take them to the Infiniti dealer... (that same old story). I scoured through Yelp and ran across several shops in the Mountain View area that sounded very reputable. When I called them up they all seemed confused by the fact that I had already purchased performance pads, or simply told be they didn't have any opening for several weeks (really? It's a two-hour brake job). After reading the glowing reviews about PE I decided to call them (him) up. Not only did Chad tell me he would work with my crazy schedule (I'm also a small business owner), he quoted me a price that was about half of the other shops I had called. Needless to say, I came in at my earliest opportunity. Just as promised, Chad slapped on the brakes (no problems at all) and did it even faster than he had quoted. He even dropped me off at a local coffee shop before beginning so I could get some work done while I waited. What amazing service! The only drag is that he doesn't have a waiting room or lobby. So be aware ahead of time that you'll have to have someone follow you (pick you up), or you'll have to sit in the shop while he works on your car. I called around Mountain View to get quotes on a 99 Civic timing belt and drive belts. Chad gave me a great price and was really easy going on the phone so I went with him.
