5/4/2023 Felix's Auto Service 191 W Evelyn Ave Mountain View, CA 94041 This was the second time to bring my vehicles here. The shop is on Evelyn close to the MTV Transit Center. This time it was to fix a scraping brake sound and fluid leak from my wife's 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Peter called me after drop off to inform me that after their brake inspection and cleaning they couldn't find anything and the sound was gone, so he said they weren't going to do anything more. They did find a leaky plastic transmission pan assembly and they did a replacement. They also replaced the air filters which was recommended since the Jeep had 54K miles and an oil change. They did have to keep the Jeep overnight and Peter called me at about 4 PM the next day to let me know it was ready. I got a pick up from Justin, paid a fair price and drove my repaired Jeep home; a happy customer. Expert, professional service and a great value from a neighborhood shop. They offer a shuttle service for drop off and pick up. Peter and Justin are great guys. If your vehicle is out of warranty, bring it here for fixing, I have and will in the future, highly recommended. read more

I was referred to this auto service in search of a new battery purchase and install through my Costco membership. I tried calling Felix's multiple time during their business hours - no answer, goes straight to voicemail. Then tried filling our their website form - no response at all. I notified Costco about this problem in case there are other reasons why this auto service place will not respond and hope they can resolve it. I wound up buying/installing the new battery from my local dealership instead while having a recall job completed. read more

I've had good service from Felix's before, but I guess it depends on who's working the counter. This guy was so rude, condescending, and dictatorial that he defined bad customer service. All I wanted was for them to read off what was causing the "check engine" light to come on, and we'd figure out what to do after that. They'd done that before. But he insisted on running a full diagnostic which would take days. When I said I just wanted what I'd had before, he accused -me- of being dictatorial. That was pure projection on his part. I needed a lot of work on an older vehicle. Not only was the important work so well I saw other little things fixed that were not part of the major work. The vehicle doors didn't squeak anymore. I have had work done 2 times since finding them and each time it was exemplary. I can't walk any more to the 3 mile trip there and they ferried me to and from. I have been going to Felix's for about 5 years now and this is the only place that I trust to go to for maintenance and repairs. They have helped me with everything, from fixing a light inside my car to repairing my car after it was totaled. They a family run and have amazing customer service. They have always been very reliable and have been there for me in emergencies and also kindly offered to give me a ride when I needed to leave my car overnight. I do not have any car knowledge so I always worry if I can trust the mechanics I've gone to in the past; I've been overcharged and most likely have had extra work done that was not necessary. Felix's Auto is the first place I found that I fully trust. They're very respectful and do great work. In addition, they do a good job explaining the issues and work they did so that you can understand everything. Standing by my review. We can post the invoices with amazing charges for air filters (10x cost of the item if purchased online) and other parts and unneeded "service". Read the other low reviews -- you'll see a constant theme of Pete's pressure tactics and gaslighting. His online response continues that trend with hardly veiled threats of "...cannot accept false claims of defamation, or libelous statements". This from the man who refused to release our car until we told him we'd be calling the police. (He was attempting to charge hundreds of dollars for literally looking under our car and verifying there was a giant hole where there was once a catalytic converter -- "work" we never signed an estimate or agreed for him to charge for... after we spent thousands over the years at his garage.) No pressure to decide the priority of repairs, but received in depth detail of repair choices and the vehicle was ready upon my return. I recently moved to the Bay Area and while we towed my Toyota Corolla up, we did it wrong [insert swipe screen of couple arguing like old married couple how to put car on a tow dolly]. Anyways, when I realized something was wrong I panicked and called the boyfriend on what to do. On top of the stress of starting a new job and moving, I couldn't even wrap my head around what should I do next. Boyfriend said his grandparents have been using Felix's for years and without having any area knowledge, I had to trust it. I'm glad I did. Being without a car for a few days during my transition here was a little hard, but Pete ensured I'd have my car in time for the weekend to run my errands and in time to start my first day of work. He communicated well and kept me updated on my car and when it would be ready. I still had some stuff left in the back seat of my car during the move and he ensured it would be locked away in the back overnight to protect my car and my belongings. This place is definitely at the top when it comes to customer service and no BS here. As my car gets older, I'm sure this will be the place to have my car checked out. Brought in my Volvo C70 that wouldn't start. Told Service Manager of the error about "turn steering and try start again". He dismissed this and recommended a new starter. Got car back and a few days later, my car wouldn't start again. He again ignored my mention of the error message and said it was the battery in key fob. Third time my car wouldn't start, I google that error and found the issue in a matter of seconds. Took car to someone else. If Peter had only googled the error originally, I wouldn't be out $766. read more

I brought in my mechanically troubled Honda Civic to get a "check engine" light resolved in order to proceed with a smog check. Pete was really professional through out all aspects of the service, and I felt like he presented all the options to me clearly. After the source of my check engine light was determined, Pete presented me with several options for repairs, ranging from the 'cheapest minimal repair' to the 'recommended repair'. Because the issue was related to my transmission, the repairs were obviously expensive, especially considering the low value of my car, so Pete offered to drive my car around and identify if there were any other mechanical issues which might make the decision to repair, or retire easier. In the end, there were just too many mechanical issues for me to personally justify repairing the vehicle, though I'm sure that Pete and his mechanics would have happily done an excellent job. Once I opted to retire the vehicle, Pete informed me of some incentives through the state that I might take advantage of to get some money for retiring my vehicle. Although I was disappointed that the cost of maintaining my car is apparently larger than the value of the car itself, I left feeling very well informed about my options and the state of my vehicle. Pete was never pushy, and he described the issues and possible resolutions clearly and concisely. I hope to return here in the future for maintenance for the next vehicle that I own. read more

I hate writing bad reviews for mom and pop shops, but my experience left me a little peeved... My fiance highly highly highly recommended this place - saying how great the service was and how excellent the prices were. He was normally able to drop his car off and have repairs done by COB. Plus it's so close to where we live... so when my brakes crapped out on me, I asked him to schedule an appointment for me. Tuesday 8AM, dropped my car off and handed over the keys. Pete was very nice and friendly. I can see why people like him. Tuesday 3PM - haven't heard from them all day. Would I be able to pick up my car today? Is it broken? What's the diagnosis doc? Nothing? Fiance called and said he would get a call back in 30 minutes. (30 minutes later no call) 4:15PM - Fiance calls again. They will call back. 4:45PM - Call back. They are still evaluating it. Fiance says I need my car by noon tomorrow (which I do since I have to drive to Newark to teach yoga right after work.) They will call at 10AM Wednesday for update. At this point, I'm thinking maybe my car is on the verge of exploding if the issue was taking so long to resolve. Wednesday 11AM - Fiance calls. They are busy. Will call back in 30 minutes. 11 something AM - They call back. Brakes are busted and need to change my pads and rotors. I'm a little surprised that my rotors are dead, but sure, why not. They say they will have my car ready by 2PM... (which means I will have to sit at home with my fiance since driving to work and back will eat up too much.) 1:50PM - Car is ready. Come pick up. Thanks. (I think they were about to give us the stink eye at this point.) Let me clarify by saying that I don't mind if my car needs to be held longer. I just like SOME transparency. If they were so busy on Tuesday, I wouldn't mind waiting another day before I dropped it off. I just had no idea what was going on and I dislike having to constantly call to find out what is going on. Just let me know! The work itself seems good - they checked everything I asked and brakes are happy again... and when Pete did see us, he did give us a much better explanation. I understand that business' are busy and what not - but some sort of update would be nice. Especially since all of the reviews here talk about how they get excellent repairs in a timely manner... it sets the expectation too high for me. read more

So I went to Felix auto to get my front breaks replaced, since the sensor light just came on. I knew I could change the breaks myself, but ran into the situation of not having the proper equipment, tools, jack etc. So I decided to take the chance with this place. Granted my car was a Mercedes, I went ahead and requested a quote to get a ball park figure of what I was going to pay for. I didn't just want to drop off my car and get a surprise bill, like a lot of people do. I like to know where my money is being spent and parts vs. labor, etc. So we began talking about parts, Pete insisted my car was a sport, and was pretty much trying up sell the hell of changing 2 break pads and 2 rotors for $532.00 + tax and what ever fees may come along the way. Pete insisted in changing my car break pads that Mercedes only does a ONE TIME use for rotors, with 65,000 miles. And that i needed to replace the rotors when I change my pads. I definitely agree, when you change your break pads, it would be good practice to change your rotors, but come on now buddy I wasn't born yesterday. Let me make the decision and dont fill me with that crap. And the end of the day, I purchased the parts (front rotors, front beak pads) TOP of the line and had $300 + left over. I went ahead and watched a couple of youtube videos and with my buddy tools and his assistance, I was good to go. Moral of the story: Do a little research before you go off and get repairs to your vehicle. Mechanics job is to up-sell the hell out of the parts and charge a ridiculous amount for labor. Get comparables from different auto shops and have a general idea of what the repair will cost. A few minutes will save you a few hundred dollars. Luckily, I did some automotive work in the past, and I knew he was a full of it. If they are truly there to help or retain a long term customer, they will work with you. I stick by this motto. Honest people will get more business and repeat customers versus someone who is dishonest. read more

The commute from Outer Sunset (SF) to Mountain View on 280 at Germanic speeds has been taking its toll on my old deathtrap. Fortunately, this place is near my office. Honest, friendly, and patient. Pete (does Felix exist?) explains why you may or may not need something done to your car in clear detail, so I feel like I get a free auto repair lesson whenever I take my poor old car in for a diagnostic or repair. I usually leave the office after they close, but they're accommodating to those who might not be able to get there exactly at closing, so I'm able to actually pick up my car and get home easily. I've had an oil/air/gas filter change and my brakes replaced there, and everything has been great so far (I was able to write this review). read more

I have experienced many auto mechanic services in the past 8 years as I have owned my 96 toyota tacoma. I must say that overall, Felix's Auto Service has proved to offer the best service including reasonable prices, customer service, and great communication with the ability of answering all of my questions. Also I do appreciate the fact that they do install/order factory OE Parts for your vehicle which has benefited my truck to lasting longer on parts versus other shops that install aftermarket parts as I have had to replace more frequently. Pete is very friendly, honest, accommodating and straight forward as there mechanics have been providing top service as well. They do tend to stay busy as I recommend to give them a call to ask any questions and or schedule an appointment. My truck has a new home as long as I decide to keep it and is need of maintenance as I would definitely recommend this place for everyone. read more

I was referred here about a year and a half ago. I had a 'immediate' problem with my car and was able to drop it off to them first thing on a Monday morning AND received a ride to my work. These guys are awesome! They'll explain to you step by step what is wrong, and what is the best cost efficient way of getting it fixed. Just last week I had some MAJOR work done and once Pete & Kif were able to get me in first thing, a ride to work and done for the exact estimate I received months back. Dude, this place is amazing. Let me list this. I'm a small girl, so I'm used to car mechanics just lying to me and charging me extra money for shit I don't understand. So Pete, the ridiculously nice awesome owner, was like "It turns out your (insert big car part here) is broken too and we have to fix it, uhhh also it's $1,500". So I was like, fuck that, he's lying. So he took me aside and showed me the part and sat with me for 25 minutes explaining exactly what it did. And it was totally broken, he was right - it was some rubber piece that was almost torn in half from a time that I hit a big rock haha. And he called me every few hours with updates because I ended up getting a rental car and he wanted to make sure that I didn't end up having to pay for two days. TL;DR: Pete patiently explained cars to stupid girl, didn't make shit up, were super super super friendly, I love this place. Fuck yeah!!!! read more

I called on a Thursday, talked to Felix about the popping sound my Acura was making when I made turns... he told me to come in the next day, they opened at 8am. The next day I got there around 7:50am, the office door was open and I went inside. Felix's son helped me and he was very helpful... he didn't try to screw me over even though I am a clueless female when it comes to cars... I blanked out for a sec and couldn't remember if I had a vtec or dohc engine. :/ He called me back later on and quoted me $529 to replace both front axles which from what I heard later was a pretty fair price. I asked them to change my oil too which they did for $30. They recommended battery replacement (which I already knew about) and told me my front left tire was bald on the side (and showed it to me). Work was done quickly, I had my car back by the end of the day. I work down the street from this place so it's very convenient. They are AAA-approved too. read more

I found this place from AAA, and initially I just wanted to get my free inspection (for AAA members only), but later found out that my car might needs some servicing. Peter (owner of the shop) informed me of what I needed done and was very informative and not pushy at all.. So, after looking around (I've done some researching on prices for brakes previously) I decided to send my 2000 Toyota corolla in today for brake pad/disc + rear cylinder servicing. Haven't gotten my car back yet but so far service here has been excellent. He opened his door even when I got there before their shop was supposed to be open. Also, I really appreciated that he was willing to give me a ride back home (unlike Zuccato's Auto Care down the street who told me I gotta find my own ride back) Prices here are pretty reasonable. Although, Zuccato quote was cheaper but $20-$30 I went ahead with Pete's quote since he was a lot more friendlier and willing to give me a ride home. Also to note, this auto shop is family owned and has been around since the 80s (previously owned by his dad), they seem to fix all kinds of cars..foreign, local, as well as older models at his garage... It's also conveniently located right in front of the Mountain View Castro station and downtown. read more

Felix is a great guy and Felix's auto is very professional. I had an issue with the electrical relating to some earlier work I had done at shoreline auto service ( which they refused to fix). Felix looked at it and immediately told me that a solenoid was busted. He replaced the solenoid ( just charged me for the solenoid) and I was back on my way. Great Job, shows how just being professional and not trying to milk your customers will always lead to more business ( and ultimately success). read more

I don't give many five star reviews, so let me explain. Sure, Felix's does good work for a good price, but so do many auto places. The reason Felix's gets five is because of the above and beyondness of what they do. First, they pick you up. For free. A very awesome and kind guy in a white Honda will totally haul your ass over to their shop. I don't know about you, but getting to and from the mechanic is my biggest annoyance with getting a car fixed. Well, Felix's says forget about that problem. Second, they are honest and don't charge you for extra, even when they could. I brought my van in because a noise it was making made me think something was wrong. Felix's tested it, drove it around, and did diagnostics. They didn't find anything wrong. Whew. What was I charged? NOTHING. They didn't even bill me for the check, because they didn't find anything wrong. Had they asked for some small payment, I would've made it gladly. But nope. Nothing. Imagine going to the doctor and getting a free checkup because you're healthy (don't start with me, Canadians and Europeans). Anyway, thanks Felix. You take the suck out of auto repair. read more

I been coming to Felix's for the last six years, referred by my sister who works at a collision center. Do you know why I like it? 1.) Same mechanics. That tells you A LOT. 2.) Family owned. 3.) You can usually pick up the Google Wifi signal, if you sit by the window. 4.) Right off the 85 & Evelyn; less than 5 minutes from downtown MV. Perfect if you want to have lunch while getting an oil change. 5.) Peter is friendly & straight up ... he always works with me to reach an agreement. Price wise, it varies ... $31 for a regular oil change for my Accord. I have had maintenance work here and the prices are pretty competitive. In the end, you get what you pay for. After reading the reviews for Felix's, I decided to go in for a quote for my Infiniti...90K mile service, replace front brakes, transmission flush, and brake fluid flush. Peter was very helpful and took the time to explain the process to me and gave me a worst case scenario quote. A few days later, I drop off the car and get a call during lunch...Peter tells me my front brakes don't need replacing and I could probably use them for another year. YAY! It was the dealer that told me to get them replaced. BOO! My car was done by late afternoon - everything was hassle free and I am very impressed at how honest they were about the brakes. I'm sure other mechanics would have just replaced them for the money. I'll be bringing my car back. The prices they offer are very fair. I'm sure it will drive for another 90,000 miles!
