This review for anyone looking for a new salon or wanting to make a walk-in.. don't bother. They take priority booking their standing clients which makes sense but I have never had such a hard time expressing interest in trying a salon to be met with such lack of etiquette. The technician also hung up on me over phone which I found extremely rude and when I told the next person I spoke with she argued with me about that ever happening (why would I lie about that?). Conclusion: it seems that if you're a new customer they do not want to or need to work with you and they make it very clear which in my opinion is a terrible way to run a business. Jeanie saved my nails the other day! I went to my usual toe spot that I love and messed around let them do my nails for a special occasion. Let's just say I had to hide them all weekend and was so embarrassed. I made an appt with Jeanie after a friend sent me here and I am a new customer for life! She fixed the shape, lifting, and color... I had acrylic nails with gel overlay. It's a small place but the staff are very friendly. While my pedicure was great and I once had a really lovely manicure with Jeannie, all of my others were painful because the other technicians just did not pay a lot of attention to my nails while they were working. This past manicure I asked them to remove my acrylics because they were lifting and instead of soaking them the technician immediately tried to pull them off which resulted in multiple breaks along my nails, some into my actual nail bed. I looked up proper removal of acrylics and this is not it. It's very damaging to the nails. I understand they are busy and soaking for long period of time is not always easy, but when I called to make the appointment I emphasized this might need to happen and they did not provide enough time to treat me with care and I have suffered as a result. I can't even use my nails without them breaking due to the poor condition they were left. I also asked if they could do a small nail design on my fingers and they refused saying they couldn't do it while I was in the chair getting my toes done. They were done with my toes before she finished with my fingernails and still nothing. This was my favorite salon and always tip well so especially sad about this experience and the way I was treated. I'm not sure I'll be returning here. read more

There's not much more to add here than what is already written, but I'll absolutely be back AND I highly recommend this salon. Pro-Tips: 1) Park on the street (upsloping) to the right of Safeway. I'm constantly running late, so I park in front of the shop and end up having to run out to feed the "meter." Save yourself some trouble and park where it is unrestricted. 2) Make an appointment! I never use to care about getting my nails done. I'd file them at home and occasionally paint them, but otherwise left them alone. Then one week in Feb 2017, I got about 3 painful hangnails and a few chipped nails. I decided it was more than my home-manicure could handle, so I went on Yelp and searched for a place near me. All About Nails had great reviews, so I made an appointment for that same day (luckily they had something available). And let me tell you, my nails looked so good and I was so pleased with my experience, I have been coming back every-other-weekend now for the past year and a half!! Seriously, I was missing out by doing my own nails at home! I usually get a regular mani/pedi, but I've also had a few gel-nail appointments as well. Not only is the price VERY affordable, but the room is so clean and the ladies are so friendly. When you walk in, you aren't hit in the face with the overwhelming smell of nail polish or polish remover. They also don't overbook, so the room is usually never too crowded, which I personally truly appreciate when I'm trying to sit back and relax. As most people mention on here, make sure to make an appointment. I've seen numerous people turned away, but they are always polite when they have to turn down a client. They can only handle so many people, and as someone who has learned to make my appointment well ahead of time, I'm very grateful that they are available as soon as I walk in (even when I walk in early) and they won't rush to get me finished. For the past 3 years, except during rare trips to SoCal, I've been doing my own nails. I've relied on the gel manicure set, complete with the light, that I received for Christmas years ago. You see, when I used to live in LA, great quality nail salons were all over the place and prices were incredibly cheap. It was an affordable luxury, as were weekly massages and eating out whenever I wanted. I was spoiled and didn't even know it. The sticker shock I experienced in the Bay Area took a lot of time to get used to. I knew rent was going to be crazy but I didn't think groceries, sandwiches, and even manicures would burn a hole in my wallet. And so I cut back on many of my habits and DIY'ed it. Honestly, my DIY nail skills aren't that bad. When I first started, it looked like a kindergartener had done them. I would upgrade my skills to 3rd grade level at this point. Over the past few months, I've gone on 2 LA trips and it reminded me how nice it is to get my nails done by a professional. And so the hunt for an affordable and reliable nail salon resurfaced. I was excited to try All About Nails given all of the positive reviews but I was also a little nervous that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. But wow, I was blown away. Oftentimes places with good prices work on volume and I've had experiences where your appointment means nothing or they rush through the work to get to the next person. I had made an appointment at All About Nails at 1:30pm on a Saturday and arrived about 20 minutes early. They seated me immediately and said they were ready for me and asked me to pick out my nail color. One person worked on my feet and gave me a wonderful pedicure, complete with leg massage. Her work was meticulous, gentle, and professional. Then, after Jeannie finished up with another client, she came over to start working on my manicure. I had waited a bit long since my last manicure and a couple nails that had gotten too long and cracked. She repaired them expertly (and without extra charge) and I'm happy to report that a few days later, the nails are still strong. It was clear that Jeannie and the rest of the ladies that work there have established great relationships with regulars. They chatted like friends and the environment was warm and friendly. I also heard Jeannie turn away several potential customers because everyone was either working or had upcoming appointments. It's so refreshing to know that you are valued as a customer and have their full attention and that they're not constantly chasing after the next customer. I found Jeannie and her salon after trying a handful of nail salons in and around Downtown Oakland. I've become a pedi regular here because this salon met all my criteria: - Cleanliness. I watched the ladies clean the foot sink thoroughly prior to me sitting on the chair. - Attention to detail. Jeannie and her staff take the time to clip, scrub and trim the piggies. I've always been a pale pink/ivory-french-tip kind of gal but after several visits, I've been converted to a much darker palate. My toes are ALWAYS neatly polished and have gone chip-free after more than 3 WEEKS! Last visit was OPI's, Black Cherry Chutney. As of yesterday, I am rocking OPI's Romeo and Juliet. - Professionalism. I've showed up to the salon several times with the BF for pedis as walk-ins. Most of the time, I *do* make an appointment. BIG KUDOS to a salon that doesn't rush through clients to take on an incoming gaggle of clients. I've never felt rushed. I've seen them turn away clients because they're booked. Just had to leave a review - these ladies are phenomenal. They were soooo meticulous and getting every cuticle clipped every nail shaped, and very polish line perfect. Came in on a Saturday afternoon and actually sat down within minutes of my actual appointment time, they have a steady flow of customers but not a ton of people waiting (which to me means they don't double book and make you wait?), and prices are reasonable - $30 for a regular mani pedi. We arrived around 4 pm on a Monday, and they welcomed us as walk-ins. There are a number of regulars, and there are a couple of tables outside for clients to sit, while waiting for nails to dry. They do pedi-manis including gel. We did a standard pedicure. There are 3 chairs and basins. Everything seems clean including the shop. I've been going to All About Nails on and off for 5 years. They do a good job, which is why I kept returning even after I moved to SF two years ago, and why I refer friends to it. However, my last experience at All About Nails reduced me to tears, so I will definitely not be returning or referring people. I know that All About Nails books up fast, so three weeks in advance, I called to book appointments for a gel mani/pedi and a full arm waxing. I originally asked to book the two appointments separately (one on Wednesday and one on Friday), but the person who took the phone call asked me repeatedly if I would like to do both on Wednesday since they had availability for both that day. I followed her advice and proceeded with booking both for Wednesday evening. On Wednesday, I get to my appointment 10 minutes early and there was only one other customer there getting her nails done by Jeannie. There were at least three other women without any customers. Jeannie, the woman who always does the waxing said that she would be with me shortly, as she was finishing up with a customer. I said no problem, because I wasn't in any rush. When she was ready, I went to the back room to start the waxing. Jeannie then complains to me that she doesn't know why they booked me for a mani/pedi with her after my waxing since she has another customer. I apologized (even though it wasn't my fault) and explained that the receptionist told me that she was available for both the waxing and nail appointments that day and that I booked the appointment weeks ago. Jeannie then told me that the other customer is a regular that comes in every other week, so it should have already been on the calendar. I then state that I would love for her to squeeze me in for the mani/pedi so I don't have to come back a different day. Even though I already had an appointment, she made me feel really bad about the request, stating that it means that one of us would have to wait a really long time. Jeannie is usually bubbly and very talkative, but gave me the silent treatment during the entire 30 minutes of waxing. At the end of the appointment, which at times were painful because she was clearly rushing, I pointed out two patches and asked her if she could re-do those areas, which she successfully did. After the appointment was over, she told me that she cannot wax me anymore because arm waxing is not her specialty (even though it is listed as a service that All About Nails provides) and that I am her only customer that tells her when she misses spots. She basically told me not to come back and to find another place to go to. It was clear that Jeannie was extremely frustrated and decided to take it out on me even though it was not my fault that she was double booked. I continued to my nail appointment, which didn't even end up being done by Jeannie. There were 2 other people available and they did my nails (and did a great job!). Jeannie then proceeded to do someone else's nails and returned to her super chatty and bubbly self. The combination of Jeannie's comments to me and her interaction with the other customer, coupled with how stressed out I was with work, caused me to cry multiple times during my nail appointment. Normally, getting my nails done is very relaxing, but the entire experience was ruined because of Jeannie and I couldn't wait to leave. All About Nails definitely prioritizes their regular customers, so I would avoid this place if you aren't a regular. There are so many other nail salons that probably won't treat you like crap for (1) not being a regular; (2) for a booking mistake that they made; and (3) for pointing out some missed spots during a waxing appointment. Jeannie's behavior was not only rude, but extremely unprofessional. I'm taking Jeannie's advice and never coming back to All About Nails. read more

I'm very happy with the service and quality of work at AAN. I had a gel manicure and a pedicure - the total was $43 (plus tip) which is slightly more than other places have quoted me, but totally worth it for the time they take and their attention to detail. It was also super easy to book an appointment before coming in, and when they said 5pm, they meant 5pm - not you come in and wait for another 15 or 20 minutes while they rush to finish someone else and then ask you why you're there. My wife and I have been on the hunt for a go to place to get our nails done since we moved to Oakland 2 years ago. We thought we found it, but then it closed for renovations. A quick scan of Yelp lead us to All About Nails and we could not be happier. The women that work there are super nice and they do an amazing job. The price is also fantastic. I have been coming here for 3+ years now and still have not found a place that matches up to their quality and customer service. I have stayed with this salon through a move to Redwood City and then another move to Dublin - basically it's worth traveling for! The customer service is great. This is the first place I have been to that has. No qualms in telling customers they are fully booked (when they are), rather than telling you to grab a seat and have you wait over an hour under the guise of 20 minutes. They also take their time. Often I am here for well over an hour to get my manicure/pedicure done, and it's because they care. They aren't just rushing through following rote motions. They pay attention to the state of your hands and feet and make sure they take care of you. Ever since I have had my baby, I have had an awful issue with my thumb nails always chipping on the side about halfway down the nail. It's a pain in the arse, and it makes cutting/filing/shaping my thumb nail an absolute beast. Whomever here is doing my nails always checks in to see what we should do with that nail before starting to work on it, and I appreciate it, because it's pretty painful. I haven't had a gel mani/pedi before, so I can't comment on that, but my toe nails hold up really well with the work this team does, my fingers only last about a week before chipping, but that's more on my lifestyle than anything else. read more

I called All About Nails on Saturday afternoon to schedule an appointment for a gel manicure and pedicure. I was confirmed for an appointment at 4:30 PM. I arrived about 20 minutes early, but Tu (I believe that was her name) started my pedicure 5 minutes later. I was already impressed! Another very friendly woman (sorry for forgetting your name!) began my manicure about halfway into my pedicure. Both women really took their time with the mani and pedi, and I felt like they genuinely cared about me. I've had so many bad experiences at nail salons. All About Nails, however, did not disappoint me. My hands and feet look beautiful and are soft. The cost of both services combined was $43, sans tip. First of all let me say that I only came here because of the reviews on Yelp. Note to all businesses...Yelp makes a difference! Having said that, the reviews on this place were spot on. On a street with 12 other nail shops (no exaggeration)...this place is a hidden gem. I struggled with writing this review because I'm not sure I want others to know how fabulous this place really is. Let me start by saying that this place is immaculate. Hands down the cleanest nail shop I have ever been to. This is super important to me. It says a lot about the owner, clientele, their tools, etc. I watched the receptionist clean every foot spa with real deal cleanser...after each use. Secondly, they have an awesome choice of colors. Essie, OPI and few others but I don't think I would ever run out of choices here even if I came in every day! Third, the staff is very friendly, but not overly. There is a peacefulness to the place and they maintain that. It's small with only 4 spa chairs and 3 manicure stations. They treat those who make appointments like queens, so I'll be making an appointment next time. And get this, the nail technician who did an expert job, trimming, filing, cuticle cutting, massaging, and most importantly painting used to do my nails at another shop 8 years ago... Wow! Recently, I learned what the word "ratchet" meant. And no, it's not a tool. In slang, the word is used to describe a nasty person, event, or situation. Here is urban dictionary's definition of Ratchet: "a term for someone who is either 1. a whore 2. dirty/nasty 3. ghetto as HELL 4. being annoying 5. busted." I can be a little ratchet sometimes: forgetting to shower, get in bar fights, pick my nose in public, act like a drunk whore, have effed up nails................ By all means this place is NOT ratchet. Genie is acomodating and the staff do such a wonderful job. My nail color usually lasts up to 2 weeks and i'm not talking about gel/shellac! The workers take such care and detail while filing and cutting, they make sure your nails are perfect before applying paint. I'm the type to mess up my nails before i even LEAVE the salon! I've been to other salons on the same street when I couldn't get an appointment and they just cannot compare. I always leave happy; my nails are beautiful and NOT RATCHET. I lurrrrv All About Nails. Before coming here, I had been jaded by heartbreaking "low end" nail shops. And "high end" nail shops (like those in pacific heights) are totally out of my league. So there I was, alone against the world without a nail shop to call my own. I hadn't had a mani/pedi in a couple months and I was starting to look like Freddy Crougar with mange. And that's when my thrift town-junky friend introduced me to All About Nails. She is always bargain hunting, and this time I could agree with her that less is more! All About Nails gave me a mani/pedi for $25 +tip and they have a great selection of OPI nail polish. The woman was nice and it wasn't awkward when I started giggling and flailing while she scrubbed my feet. I am extremely ticklish. And when I picked out rainbow colors for my toe nails, she didn't judge me. too much. The only bummer is that my manicure lasted a little less than a week. Holy crap, this was the worst pedicure I've ever had. I'm looking at my toes now-- they were finished about 2 hours ago. Both big toes have big scratches in the top layer of polish. All other toes have paint all over them. Not only did they not stay in the lines, but they managed to get paint on my toe knuckles and even on the bottom of one foot. It looks like a three-year-old painted them. A waste of time and $$$$$$$$$$! read more
