First time I went with a frequent patron and service was great, nails looked good, cost is reasonable compare to other salons in the area. Second time I came in by myself on a Thursday evening at 5:00 pm, the salon was empty and they accepted me as a walk in. I had a young woman and older women working on my mani pedi. The younger woman gave a real nice hand massage and my natural nail manicure was perfect. The pedicure was not the best but still looked okay and massage didn't compare. Third time in on a Wednesday at 4:00 pm salon is empty and they take me as a walk in.I left with a cut on my heel from the rough exfoliation. The natural nail polish was not clean and the woman did the most horrible massage. They finished and left me in the chair. After waiting about 15 minutes I asked them if they could put me under the fan. I went over in the fan area and the owner was crossed, I sat there for about 40 minutes until I finally interrupted them and asked if I could go. I used to go to Diva Nails when I lived in Oakland. I moved up to Richmond and tried to find a decent nail salon in the area. No dice. Went back to Diva Nails and BAM! These women really know their craft. Treated my cuticles nicely. Cleaned up my ragged nails. I had forgotten what a great manicure was! Even after two weeks or so, my nails still look great. They use a high quality gel polish. With pedicures, the staff does decent work without hurting your feet. My heels don't need a seriously scrub down as I don't have cracked feet. My nail technician was very quick and efficient. I loved the mini massage I received with the pedicure and manicure. Came here with my sister on rainy Saturday afternoon. This is a cute and small salon across from a parking lot. We walked in and was greeted. There were 3 other people getting their nails done. I was quickly seated at a spa chair, which were comfortable but they didn't offer me the remote to turn on the massage which kinda sucked. The lady who did my pedicure was nice and did a decent job , but I felt like she was rushing the entire time which wasn't as relaxing as it could have been. After the pedicure was done I was seated next to a heater where the paint would finish drying. Was nice but the chairs were not the most comfortable. As far as the salon itself, it was clean and the staff for the most part was friendly. The nail polish selection was decent but nothing special. Anna filed my nails but Thu did the polish. Anna was very friendly and we had a nice chat. Thu was a little quieter (granted she was concentrated on hooking my nails up!). Thu did an amazing job. This is the only place I've been to that takes the time to cut my cuticles with such precision. Thu took her time with my nails. This was my first time getting a (soft) gel manicure and I am hooked. Been here twice with my sister in law. First time was for her wedding, and second time was recently for a girl's day out. Service has always been really good here, and everything was really sanitary. For my sister in law's wedding, we had all the bridesmaid (8 of us!) pile in, and they accommodated and streamlined us beautifully, and allowed us to bring in some snacks and drinks, and be rowdy, even though they also had other customers in the shop. The second time was just the two of us. Definitely a lot quieter, and we got to chat while we got our pedicures. In short: SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSEWHERE OR PREPARE FOR DISAPPOINTMENT. This shop doesn't care about hospitality or quality. This was quite possibly the most half-assed mani/pedi I've ever had. Also, without doubt the worst gel polish I have ever received: lumpy, crooked, awful. I'm not at all picky - but this was just egregious. The longer story: I popped in as my usual place across the street (POSH NAILS) was booked for a number of hours and I was in a hurry. There is absoustely no hospitality in this shop. No smiles, no real welcome and the overall feeling is cold. The women act like they resent being there, resent YOU being there. I could also plainly see that as they were talking to each other in a foreign language that they were talking shit about one of the other customers. Awkward. Don't do that! The pedicure ok but rushed but on the plus side the polish was done fine and as to be expected. A young girl did the pedicure and of everyone she was the most friendly and apparently the most competent. Now lets talk about the manicure. I could have done a better job if I'd done it myself! The manicure was extra rushed, steps were skipped, I didn't even get lotion at the end. She acted like she barely wanted to touch me - maybe she needs a vacation. Worst of all though is that I spent so much for gel polish and she did such a horrible job that it doesn't go to the edges, there are LUMPS of gel polish at the end of my nails. It's thin in some places and thick in others. It's seriously the most half ass, craptastic polish job ever. These ladies DO NOT CARE ANY MORE if they ever did. They don't want to be there, they don't care about the job they are doing, they have no pride.. they have a "meh, good enough" attitude. Shame on them. It's been less than a week and they are already peeling and look 2 weeks old. It's so bad that after less than a week I'm going to a different shop to have it re-done. I'm also highly dubious as to their sterilization method as the tools came back on a towel and not in packages. Ok, so I used to love this place. Why? Because of how they cut my cuticles. They do the best, hands down. Now, when it comes to painting my nails....Ah! I cant stand how they do it! I sometimes wonder how stupid could a person be in painting nails? Everyone knows that you must paint the entire nail thoroughly before applying the second or third coat! They do a half ass first coat, then drench your nails in second and third coat, which gives off the same apearance, untill you wait for about 2 hours, and your nails are still wet when you touch them and end up smearing! I've gone there to get my pedi, then go to another salon to have them repaint them over again with better design, and better technique. I guess you can never win with these nail shops...they always do one thing right, and everything else wrong. So let me tell you about the last time I was there... I got my services done, tipped them each 10 dollars for there noce attitude, and great cuticle cutting...then my paint was too thick on my nails, and smeared after I left. I came in the next day because they closed shortly after I had left. They were fairly busy, so I told the nail stylist to repaint my nails. She said, "ok, she will help you after she is done painting her clients nails". I agreed and sat down for 30 min, watched as she left from one person to starting another pedi, for someone else! I asked what was going on, and she said sorry I have to wait. I dont care if you have a hundred people ahead of me....if I come in there and you say i will be served after her, then that is what i expect! Hahn is the secret weapon of all Divas! She does a mean pedicure and her acrylic nail work is so beautiful you can wear your nails without polish! The salon is clean and tidy and free of those wicked fumes most nail shops have. Give them a call, walk-ins are welcome but I like going early in the morning. Don't go on Friday unless you go early to avoid the parking nightmare associated with the Farmer's Market. The atmosphere is insanely nice in comparison to two other nail shops I've been. It's clean and massages with the job, but they cost more than the nail shops I've been to. I got acrylics, my most expensive job was here, she took so long I wish I had a third hand so I could read. Powder acrylics, the result was very beautiful, however when she was filing down the fakes, she cut me til I started bleeding and ignored it til the blood got in the way of her filing, THREE times. They were just french tipped after that and I think they overcoated because I spent 3-4 hours at the shop for that and french tipped toes that I managed myself anyways so didn't need much work. For me a mani/pedi depends 80% on the thoroughness of the cuticle cutting/nail bed shaping. Anna is the sweetest! She makes good conversation but also leaves some room for you to relax and enjoy your time. I got a spa pedicure and an acrylic set with gel polish. My nails look fantastic and people have been saying "oh I didn't realize your nails were so long" because they look so natural. It has been exactly 14 days and not one chip or breakage, they still look amazing. This is a true testament because I work with my hands A LOT and there is plenty of opportunity for chipping and breakage. I will definitely go here for my nail care form now on. Another HUGE factor is that they are an Alameda County certified Natural Nail salon, meaning they omit any chemicals possible. "Can you wipe my nails off with the polish remover or alcohol one more time before you put the polish on, please?" Never before, in all my nail shop experience, has such such a simple request ever been denied. I made this request after Anna, my manicurist, slathered that yellow oil all over each nail, sanded it in with the block, and then told me to "go wash hands". Sure, I'd just washed my hands. But I know my nails. I have an oily nail bed and need the certainty that that yellow oil is completely eradicated prior to the polish or else it will peel off in 2 days. Plus, that soap in the nail shop is always watered down shampoo or something. Its not like its safeguard or coast. Anyway, she would not do it. Ugh. That's why the star rating is low. Otherwise, this is a cute little shop. Its convenient to the nearby hotels and across from a restaurants. I desperateley needed a mani/pedi but really and truly only had time for a polish change, but I went for the whole mani anyway knowing it would make me late for the dinner rezzy. Oh my god I can finally look at my nails and be happy again! Short and sweet: my nails look amazing and even almost real, though the technician did buzz into my cuticles a bit (not enough to cut, but enough to shock me a little). More in-depth: I had my nails butchered by the last place I went to (might be over exaggerating, but I couldn't look at them without disgust) and after a bad start to the day, I needed some tlc and new nails. Walking in, the place looked cozy and pretty well kept, above average for the vast majority of nail salons. The ladies that were there were straightforward, not terribly much for conversation but they were quite nice. Personally, I prefer not to have conversations because I like to watch and I like my technician focused. I explained how the last lady had done such a bad job and they even commented on how thick it was and the lead lady told me the technician that was going to work with me would take good care of my nails and fix them. Again, not much for conversation but damn did she focus on my nails, it was really cool to watch. She spent lots of time on each nail to make sure the shape was right. She *did* catch my skin and cuticles while using the dremmel(?) tool; not enough to cut or bleed, but enough to make me try not to flinch. The end result was phenomenal. My nails are clean and just thick enough to be strong. Smooth and natural looking (at least enough to question if they are naturally perfect) and even. And they have TEMPERATURE CHANGING NAIL POLISH, GUYS (my little kid came out and I'm so glad I made the choice). I'm glad I came in here to get my nails done. Went here to pamper myself as I prepared to go on vacation. The place was relatively empty as I went on a Thursday. I was seated right away and was started on my services. That is the ONLY reason I'm giving two stars. The rest of the time was spent arguing with the nail technician because I did not want dip powder. She almost seemed offended when I asked for regular acrylic tips. She kept going back and forth with me every few minutes about getting dip powder. I know it's EASIER, faster and more convenient for nail technicians to use dip powder but as this was my first time visiting this nail salon did not want to risk possible infection by doing dip powder from a salon I hadn't frequented before. After awhile of us going back and forth, I finally put my foot down and advised that I knew the cost difference, the benefits and cons of the two services and I would just like acrylic on my nails. She eventually took the hint but then became very aggressive as she filed/drilled my nails. She would snatch my hand towards her and after the third time I advised her to be more gentle with my hand. My nails came out okay and so did my pedicure, beware that they charge $3 more for OPI nail polish so if you have a collection, just bring your own. It was an okay experience. My nails lasted about 2.5 weeks and my toe polish is doing well considering it's been 3.5 weeks. May try again until I find somewhere new. read more
