The good thing is that the dishes are meant to be shared so bring someone adventurous and try a bunch of stuff. The cocktails are tasty and strong, but expensive. I wouldn't go so far as to say overpriced, but they are not cheap. The bartenders and the wait staff are all attentive. The food is a 2.5 the atmosphere is a 5. Came late on a Friday night, the dj was poppin, the decor here is a beautiful mid-century theme. Got the lo mein with shrimp for $22, the shrimp was cut in tiny pieces and I've had better lo mein for $5.99 at my hole in the wall neighborhood Chinese joint but the atmosphere was really fun. The tropical but sexy decor and small footprint add to the unique environment of this already cool place. We decided to try Alice Dallas which is in the space of one of the better former food spots in Dallas, Joyce and Gigi's. As soon as we walked in we quickly noticed how loud it was. However, the hostess was friendly and quickly checked us in and offered us the bar while we waited on our table. The bartender was on point. He was able to adjust my drink order to my liking and quickly followed up with me to make sure it tasted ok. The drinks were perfect. Once we sat at our table I realized that there was a DJ playing popular music but we couldn't enjoy it because it was much to loud. It was so loud, I couldn't hear the waitress talking to someone who was right next to me at the table. The food was good. The Brussels Sprouts are definitely an A+. The rest of the food we tried (steamed buns, chicken Yakatori, Clams, Rolls) where a B, B+ but nothing was bad. Also since it's mostly sharable plates, you can easily end up spending more than you would normally for dinner. This my solid go to for any special occasion or a casual night out. I literally want to punch myself in the face every time I come here (which is frequently) because I have to eat everything in sight as if my life depended on it. EVERYTHING is amazing. I would literally Kool-Aid man through the wall if the waiter said they didn't have the sticky buns or the duck fried rice. OH YEAH!!! The bar is as amazing as the music and ambience effortlessly is. We came to Alice based on a recommendation. Flavors were excellent. It ended there. A table of 8 was sat and orders taken quickly however each order was served independently and after sitting for 45" we got our last "treat order"... the duck fried rice. The easiest order which came Luke warm. Being these are themed as shareable one would think they'd arrive together. The plates were truly treats or tapas to share but at entree prices. As an example the duck fried rice was about 2 cups of rice with minced veggies and very sparse duck meat. When we spoke with the manager he offered to comp us but was told we were really offering feedback for improvement so my review is being offered only after trying to help the business. This place deserves much better ratings! We've been 3 times and each time we've ordered something a bit different and each time the food is to die for. My friends aren't much for sharing and neither are we so we usually order our own dishes. Each time I have gotten a fantastic salad and they have kept it vegan for me. My husband and friends love the Wagyu, omg! They still talk about it. The edamame and shishito is also a great start. We all agree the Lychee drink is 5/5. BUT what really set this place apart for us was the service. We walked in (group of 4) without a reservation on a Friday night (n00bs) and the manager somehow ended up giving us the best seat in the house. It is official. I have a new favorite East Dallas Saturday night spot. The interior is beautiful, dark, intimate and modern. And oh yes I do mean intimate. It is tiny in there! But for some reason I believe this adds to the charm of it all. They have a late night menu if you need some light bites. The dishes are all Asian inspired. You guys...I may have a new favorite food and that would be shisito peppers. These made my soul so happy. I need to know what they used to season them because I am going to recreate this at home. Also, the music was incredible. We were grooving to r&b jams mixed with some other urban grooves all night long. It's definitely good music to move to. There's just enough room to dance too if you stay long enough. Not sure how it is during the day but it's perfect for a Saturday night GNO or a fun date. I will be trying many more items on the menu. If you want good quality food, this is not the place. If you are trying to find a spot for good drinks and music, this is your place. Our table had calamari and dumplings for appetizers and sushi and chicken pad Thai for entrees. The Calamari was not good at all. It was not coated evenly and it was drenched in a sweet sauce which took away from the calamari itself. It was so gross and greasy we couldn't even eat it. Idk how the kitchen manages to mess up such a simple dish. The pad Thai had ground chicken... GROUND chicken. It was also extremely subpar. Not good at all. The Sushi fell apart and had no food flavor. One of the rolls had more rice than anything in it. Save your money and go somewhere else. The only reason I am giving it three stars is for the ambiance and the great music. This could be a great place but they really need to improve their dishes and the quality of their food. This place really disappointed us. Also, beware of the valet guys. They charged us $10 and didn't even return our vehicle to the right side of the street. I read a lot of reviews saying they should be charging $5. I think they are charging more based on who you are/ how you look. Beware! read more

Such a great new place in an unassuming location off Ross Avenue! I made a reservation for dinner last night and thoroughly enjoyed my experience minus the air conditioning that was inoperable. The staff knew it was a little toasty, so they immediately offered the first round on them, so I ordered a refreshing and delightful lychee martini while enjoying the beautifully decorated dining room. For my meal, I enjoyed the crispy chicken lettuce wraps, the pork and mushroom dumplings and the seriously flavorful and refreshing mango sorbet to cool off. After spending a weekend in NYC, I felt like I hadn't left. Alice Dallas was adorable. The disco ball, 70s style chandeliers, and the intimacy of the table settings was just like some of the unique spots I popped into over the weekend. Our server Kelly was fantastic, on top of things giving great recommendations but also that perfect balance of space to breathe. The food was great. This is definitely a spot to take someone who loves sharing (no picky eat my own way eaters!). We shared the Brussels shishito peppers/edamame, brisket and chicken buns, and the pad thai. My favorite was the special chicken steam buns, as it was a honey fried chicken with a kick to it. The pad thai was a little too much on the sweet side for me, but there was some fresh jalapenos that helped offset and it was still tasty. I look forward to trying another noodle dish next time. The back of the restaurant was adorable too, with a private room that was setting up for a draft party. Apparently you can rent it out and there's a Karaoke machine too so sounds like a private party is in my future there. Check out Alice Dallas soon! This place is pretty great, but still needs to work out a few kinks. Hopefully it's not just a flash in the pan, and they get some time to mature. Food was excellent. No complaints there. Service was quite good. But it has so few tables that the wait is inevitably long. Especially for a place that wants to be cool. I don't want them to start forcing people out of tables, but they need to find a way to get people seated more quickly. They have a good idea on the decor, but it's just not quite executed right. The '80s aesthetic is a solid plan, but they haven't gone all-in the way they should. They need some more art and lighting fixtures to finish it out. And seriously upgrade their music selection. It's basically just a CD of top 40 '80s hits. If you need an '80s mix, hit me up, and I'll tell you the Spotify to use! but I'm really hoping the place settles in. I'll be back! read more

Alice is a small spot, off Ross, a quiet street just east of downtown Dallas. There is valet parking ($5), and I would use it. Although there is a back room with more space, the front room is tight and cozy, with tables situated close together, although the noise from the neighboring tables was not distracting. Go for table 11 (I believe that is the number), the raised booth to the right of the entrance. Be sure you have your reservation--it was crowded the Friday night we ate there. All the items on the menu are effectively meant to be shared. The four of us shared eight dishes, including a dessert. All were excellent. I loved the simple edamame and shishito peppers--the peppers blistered and nicely seasoned. The brussels sprouts were awesome, nicely browned and sweet. We could/should have eaten several orders. The tuna tartare, served with taro chips, was fresh and brightly seasoned. The calamari was crisply fried and also seasoned very well. The shu mai dumplings were a great mix of texture and taste, and even the fried rice was nicely seasoned and gone in a heartbeat. The pad thai was delicious, although it had a heavier sauce than I am accustomed to seeing on this dish. We had an argument over the dessert. The chocolate cake was a dense puck of dark chocolate flavor. However, it was served on a wasabi-honey glaze, which our party split on whether it was a good or bad thing. I have not had a wasabi-honey glaze before, and it was an assertive electric green mix of sweet and hot, but not for everyone. They have a nice drink menu, with interesting cocktails, wine and a small selection of domestic and Asian beer. Try the Cherry Blossom, and you can tell the bartender to make it less sweet, if you prefer. Service was friendly and responsive, and a shout-out to our server Lorna for taking care of us, especially with help on the menu. I can't wait to go back--I need to finish working through the menu! My first time dining in to a restaurant since March, and I do not regret deciding on Alice. First, the restaurant is taking safety precautions very seriously: temperature checks at the door, hand sanitizer as you walk in and on each table, social distance, etc. Even our water glasses were individually wrapped as they arrived to our table. I ordered their version of an Old Fashioned, and my friend ordered the lychee martini, both were pretty good. As far as food, we started with the edamame & shishitos and a mix of pork and fried chicken steamed buns, per our servers recommendations. The steamed buns were delicious. I had the Mama Bear roll while my friend had the Rainbow Roll, and both were great. The atmosphere of the restaurant was really chic and romantic, pretty enough just to stop in for cocktails. Ambiance is fun but very loud. Difficult to talk. Beautiful people everywhere. Overall I left kind of wondering why it's so red-hot popular. It doesn't really make sense. Marketing, press coverage, or ownership relationships - must be something, because it's not the food or the service bringing people in... still sort of scratching my head trying to understand the current overall rating here. And there are suspiciously many very low-count reviewers here... hmm. This place should be 3.5 stars on Yelp on its merits as a restaurant alone. The only reason to go back is for the talent show. As a restaurant, there are too many far better options around at this price point. I'm guessing this will burn hot and fizzle, unless the scene keeps it alive somehow. A few friends and I went to Alice last Friday, and we all left super impressed. To start, the decor and vibe of the place takes me back to NYC (I lived there for 7 years). They have a cool little disco ball, an intimate bar, and a really cool booth to the right when you walk in. Every seat in the small space is a good seat. The music was what I like (80s) and overall the atmosphere was on point. The food was even better. There were 6 of us, and we ordered pretty much everything on the menu (with the exception of 3 or 4 dishes). Everything was VERY good, the only think that was kind of ehhh, was the garlic noodles, but honestly, maybe they were just ehhh because everything was amazing. I highly recommend the crab dip, calamari, the ribs, the fried rice, the pork buns and the shrimp!! Along with honestly everything else. We each had three drinks, and the totally bill with tip ended up being $75 person (in my opinion, a steal given the quality of food, drinks, atmosphere, and service).
