A great place for platters - gyro , lemon chicken with all the sides - white sauce and red sauce is great - tried the pita platter a new item that has small diamond shaped pita that sits on the grill until crisp , ripped with a feta , salad and grilled gyro and chicken - was incredible as I was trying to avoid the rice - bit then I went for a side of biryani (great choice and very flavorful on it's own with a little yogurt and some hot sauce. My uncle and Aunt have been cooking great south Asian and Meditteranean fused food for years in the new haven / central and Southern Connecticut and this fora into a more Meditteranean style menu with some light indian styled spice blows away the "chicken and rice " establishments in New York - that have low quality items compared to the well marinated and properly prepared meats and biryani here - proud to write this review for my aunt and uncle ...job well done ! read more

Outstanding food. I have eaten most items on the menu and can say you cannot go wrong with anything. The Lemon Chicken is not to be missed and make sure to get a Kati roll. They are a little greasy but super tasty. I would also recommend the grilled fish. I am not even a huge fish eater but it is so light and seasoned perfectly that it is now my go to. The tahini sauce on the Falafel is a touch bitter and the location is not optimal. But I can say this is easily my favorite restaurant in New Haven. read more

I would eat here again. It's clean and had some vegan options. Prices were very reasonable too. The "smashed potato roll" is not really a roll, but rather a grilled pocketless pita with flavorful potato and union inside. It's like a wrap, but only better. I really loved this. read more

Bang for your buck (platter-wise). Came by July 4th and they were open, except it was a desert town. Not a single soul in sight. Decided on the lemon chicken platter. Great customer service with the cashier. I'm pretty sure the lemon chicken platter I got was 100% equivalent to chicken over rice from halal food carts in NYC... just double the portion. For a quick and convenient location, Ali Baba's has it! It is a great spot to go in and pick your meal. Everything there is always very good as well! The only concern I have is sometimes they deliver, and other times they will say they don't. Mixed messages in terms of delivering or not isn't ideal when you're not even 5 minutes from a college campus. read more

The pictures looked great on yelp aNd it didn't disappoint!!! We were unsure of what was in each platter and the cashier was very patient answering our many questions. I got the mixed meat platter on salad. Which has lemon chicken and gyro lamb meat on top. Very good! Spicier than I expected but so good. A friend go the baklava and was very happy with it. I love the food here. The service when you come in is good. I've ordered from GrubHub before and had issues, but from what I understand it wasn't the fault of the restaurant. I always get the gyro platter and samosas with baklava. Everything is delicious! I really like this hidden gem on Dixwell Avenue. I've been wanting to go for a while now. I'm quite impressed! Prices are great, food is great. Here's my gripe I just wish there was a little more variety in terms of the meatless items specifically fish. It wouldn't hurt to have some sweets on the menu either. The other thing,you have to wait for your name to be called which is tough if it's noisy and busy. Very delicious Middle Eastern food for a reasonable price. I had one of their kabobs, and it was a big portion along with very bold and yummy flavors. The meat was perfectly cooked, tender, and very delicious paired with their sauces. My meat was served with rice and complimented my seasoned chicken. This is essentially Mediterranean fast food. The lemon chicken is what they are known for and they started as a food truck. They still have them but have never eaten at the truck, so this is not a review of them. Always get the lemon chicken with pita and like the hot tea they serve. the food is great and find it to be better then anyone else in the category, which includes the "famous" Halal brothers, from NYC, in downtown New Haven. I'm constantly at Yale for treatment and need to eat something between appointments. I'm also on a doctor specified diet. I tried their food truck for the first time yesterday. Healthy, economical, and a heaping helping of pure DELICIOUSNESS! I was able to get three meals out of my order. My wife is a plain old hot dog/hamburger with fries and ketchup gal and she loved it. We are going down to the actual restaurant on Father's Day tomorrow as we were so impressed we need to try other items on the menu. Kudos to Jamesh, his wife, and the crew. I saw the earlier post from someone that resides in Middletown as well and I'm in total agreement that a location on that culinary destination of Main Street would be a perfect fit for the eclectic mix of great restaurants here. read more

This place is legit. Went to grab something quick that was middle eastern or greek and this place didn't disappoint. The gyro platter was great, the lemon chicken platter was even better. My review for their old location still stands. Ali Baba's is one of my favorite places to eat, I've introduced a ton of my friends to their food and they're all obsessed as well. The staff is some of the best I've ever encountered, it's clear that they genuinely care about their product and their customers. The prices can't be beat, and their food is just ridiculous. I never stray from my lemon chicken platter with chick peas, white sauce, and hot sauce, I highly recommend it. The new building is great, it's large and far nicer than the hole in the wall they used to be in. However the location absolutely sucks. The old location was convenient - right on and off the highway, so even if you were coming from out of town it was quick. Hamden by default is just annoying, there's no easy or quick way to get anywhere, but Ali Baba is pretty deep down Dixwell and it just takes forever to get there. There's seven hundred traffic lights, buses, high speed chases, people just standing in the street staring at the sky. It's just annoying, and I'll be honest, this has caused me to come here a little less frequently, I just go down to the food cart instead. It's a further drive, but I'm there in half the time and it keeps my road rage at bay. read more

It took a while for me to try this place but I can see what the hype is about. The food is extremely tasty and the portions are huge for the price. I tried the mixed grill and the lamb Kati roll so I could sample as much as possible. The food is fresh and flavorful and very filling. I was hungry and couldn't come close to finishing it all. Would probably do without the rice next time. It's a very clean place and the service is friendly. It's not in the greatest of areas and the atmosphere is lacking but none of that mattered much. I'd probably do delivery next go round but will definitely try it again. read more

I am so glad that they open Ali Baba Fusion restaurant, now we can enjoy their delicious food in sitting environment. Since they have opened this location I pretty much go their every other weekend. Well, Ali Baba's is my very favorite Mediterranean food restaurant, and I'm so sad to say I won't be able to have it any longer since I've moved across the country. But this restaurant became a fast favorite for my boyfriend and me while living in New Haven. It surpasses Tikkaway (another favorite of ours) by far in portion size and overall satisfaction. We always got the lemon chicken platters, which features a huge portion of rice topped with the BEST chicken I've ever had (the seasoning is just phenomenal - your jaw will drop!) as well as veggies; it also comes with my favorite yogurt sauce of all time, and you should also order some pita bread on the side, although you can order it cut up in the platter itself, which results in small pita triangles mixed into the rice. Ali Baba's is just the most delicious restaurant to visit if you're a fan of Mediterranean flavors. The staff is also really friendly and helpful, and you can call your order ahead for pickup which is super convenient. The price is also EPIC and totally doable for me, a broke college student. The value is unsurpassable, and I will always recommend this place to people who visit the New Haven area. It became my favorite treat, a meal I'd reward myself with after a run or workout, and I'll certainly miss it! read more
