Likely most people do take out but the inside has a nice set up. They made some errors to our order but were nice to them correct them and bring us what we ordered. The food is tasty for sure. The big reason why I won't be coming back is I guess the location. While we were eating a man came in (appeared homeless) and was asking us for money. Ordered extra blue cheese and celery with the wings, wings showed up with no blue cheese and no celery. Mind you I paid extra for extra blue cheese. My chicken kabob came with ginger chicken which I don't like, never picked or asked for. Chicken kabob bowl was said to be topped with lettuce and white sauce, was not topped with either. My husband and I came here for dinner. The place was pretty clean and big. We ordered grilled fish platter, samosas, falafel and baklava. The fish platter was good. We both liked it, especially the rice, tasted like the Halal food cart in New York which we both loved. :) The samosas were also good as well as the sauce. My husband liked their sauce so much. The order was originally cancelled through Grubhub because I ordered too early and the call I received said that the restaurant was opening later than usual but a call to restaurant verified that they opened at the normal time. I ordered the combo plate with chicken and lamb meat. Very tasty but I preferred the chicken over the lamb. I would order the chicken plate next time. Guess what....we don't live next door and I don't know if I will come back since you can't honor a promotion that YOU advertised. I actually attended their food cart on Grove St. in New Haven, and let me tell you something - this is the best food cart in New Haven, hands down. Let me tell you more - Halal Guys has nothing on Ali Baba. The food cart vendor was super nice, we had a nice talk. I ordered lemon chicken salad, which comes with lettuce, chickpeas, feta cheese, black olives, as well as white sauce and hot sauce on top of the chicken. It was INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS. It's amazing that for $6 you can get a delicious salad, which is far better than most dining places in New Haven. The lettuce was fresh and crisp, the olives were OK (I would personally prefer kalamata olives here), and the chickpeas were tender and full of flavor. The lemon chicken deserves a separate paragraph. Some people call it "Crack Chicken", and I can see why. This chicken is full of flavor, very good seasoning, properly cooked, and most important - IT'S ADDICTIVE. So be careful, because once you try their lemon chicken, there's no going back (looking at Halal Guys). By the way - the portion is huge. If you come across their food cart - you have to try it. I don't know how they make profit from charging $6 on a HUGE lemon chicken salad - give it a try and you'll be just as surprised as I was. read more

Located off Dixwell Ave, right before the Arch St intersection on the Hamden/New Haven line, Ali Babas is a relatively new restaurant that serves Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine with a Pakistani flair. Although the location may leave something to desire for some, I can assure you that the parking in the small lot towards the rear/ and or on the street, are more than safe. The Interior is clean and welcoming, providing immaculate restrooms and free WiFi for customers. With all that out of the way, lets get down to why I really wrote this review, the food! LEMON CHICKEN! If you've read the reviews for either this or their previous location, then it should come as no surprise that I am going to tell you to get this dish (platter or wrap, you cant go wrong). While I haven't quite figured out why it is named lemon chicken, I will tell you that it is one of the best chicken dishes I have ever had the pleasure of eating. The chicken while immensely flavorful, has just enough spice to pack a little kick while allowing optimal shoveling into your mouth. Despite the Lemon chicken stealing the spotlight, all of the remaining dishes on the menu are able to hold their own as well. From the Gyro Wrap (one of the New Haven Advocates top 3) to the Mixed Platter, you really cant go wrong. And for those of you who are vegetarians out there, there are options for you as well; both the Cauliflower Kati Roll and Falafels are top notch (the later of which dare I say is better than a certain world famous location in New Haven). While the food and the restaurant are great, what really keeps me coming back is the owner, He and his wife are some of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting, and you can see that they put there heart and soul into what they do. If you're in the area be sure to give them a shot, I can promise you will not be disappointed. P.S. Do yourself a favor and get and extra cup of white sauce on the side. Menu isn't massive, but that actually worked out better because it didn't us as long to decide. I had a potato wrap of some sort and it was very good. The place was well lit and even had a nice, cozy couch area (tough to eat in that environment, but looked comfy). The girl at the register was SO friendly. Don't get me wrong, I've never crossed anyone who works there that hasn't been super nice, but she went out of her way to start a conversation and just really left a good impression. I got my usual, grilled fish platter and an order of samosas. The fish platter was just as good as it always is, perfectly seasoned, not overcooked. The samosas were what I was really happy with though. Usually, they're super greasy which is likely attributed to frying oil not being hot enough. Amazing food and quick wait times! You will not be disappointed. Any of the briyani's (although I tend to get the vegetable one) are flavorful and hearty. The samosas are always fried perfectly so the shell isn't too hard and the food isn't dried out inside. The gyros and falafel are also cooked nicely and are full of amazing toppings! And I can't forget about the kati rolls, whether you are getting the vegetable, paneer, or chicken (or all 3 like me) your taste buds will be pleased with you. And if you are in the mood, try there baklava, its a happy ending to a wonderful dinner! The staff is also extremely nice and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the foods. While this may be someone out of my way, it's definitely worth getting if you find yourself in the mood for some Indian/Pakistani cuisine!
