    Churrasco

HORRIBLE!!! We ordered the "Churrasco" thinking it was a typical skirt steak. Nope. It was a very cheap cut of meat with bones throughout. It was so tough that I gave up trying to chew it. The one star is that the fries and the red wine was good. I definitely would Not recommend this place!!!

This spot was the one for our first Tapas dinner for this Madrid visit. Roomy inside with some outdoor seating. Empty as we were early for dinner around 7 so we took a table outside. They do have a Sister location next door -difference is less Tapas and Paella is on the menu. We started with Sangria and the Alhambra house brew. The Beer was billed as an IPA but tasted more like an Ale-very good. The Sangria was a bit sweet and refreshing. Complimentary Manchego cheese was a nice touch. Our Server warned us that their Tapas are larger than the typical size and she wasn't kidding-more like Tapas on steroids. We started with the Goat Cheese with onion and blueberry sauce. I don't think I've had fried Goat cheese and this was delicious. Blueberry sauce takes it over the top. Tortilla Omelette (Spanish Omelette) was filled with eggs/onions-very good. Last Tapa was the Cured Iberian Loin. Again, big portion. The surprise was the flat chicken breast and peppers under the Loin. This one was ok. Decided to share the Rice with 1/2 Lobster. Sauce was tasty mixed with the Rice as well Lobster. Not much Lobster though. Service was excellent with our Server patiently answering all of our questions. They've been around for almost 100 years. Don't miss the Goat Cheese Tapa!

We tried three dishes here; prawn, steak, traditional Spanish Madrid dish and potato with heavy sauce on it. Oh my god ~ the potatoes were really good. The prawn ~ it was steamed but it smelled that it came from trash can. It was smelliest shrimps ever. The Traditional Madrid Dish ~ I generally can eat anything but I was about to vomit smelling the food. It smelled like a dirty gym socks and I couldn't even eat one spoon of it. Hard NO on this place.

Alhambra definitely did not disappoint for out early evening snacking. All of our dishes (tortilla, meatballs, and beef tripe) were great. Even folks at the table who normally do not like callos/beef tripe really enjoyed it...especially the sauce/stew. We wanted to order a couple more items, but our waitress informed us that the portion sizes were very large. Boy, was she right. In terms of bang for your buck (I mean bang for your Euro), this place is great. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor options, and I highly recommend eating outdoors if the weather is nice. Since the place is somewhat popular, I would recommend making reservations if they accept them. We lucked out with outdoor seating because a table was finishing their meal when we arrived. Unfortunately, I failed at the Yelp rule of 'phones eat first' because my phone's battery was dying.

Just premium ham and bread. No mayo, no oil and vinegar, No extra additives and it was delicious. The bread was EVERYTHING. Love everything about it. I could have eaten more but I am watching these calories while in Madrid.

The paella wasn't that good, sangria was very watery taste. The service was good, pleasant waiters. I don't think we would be back eating there.

Excellent food. Service was friendly and food was quick. The restaurant is in a building with a lot of character and also has outdoor seating. The goat cheese with blueberry sauce was my favorite thing we tried

1st meal in spain and this place did not disappoint! It was so nice eating outside, taking in the evening with great tapas, drinks and company. Oh Europe, how I missed you. And coming from CA? The food here is so cheap. Highly recommend the jamon, achovies, steak (comes with fries) and two sauce potatoes!

Had a nice lunch here. The server was nice and explained the menu to us. We got the oxtail, tortillas, patatas bravas, and a plate of jamon. The portion size is huge here, so under order. The oxtail was sublime and pretty tender. Everything else was decent but not knock your socks off.

Sides for parillada for 2: half salad, half fries
    Ana D.

Went at about 8pm on a spring Saturday and there was no wait. Ordered the parillada for 2 and was about to order the grilled vegetables but the waiter warned us that the order was very large and with the aide of salad or potatoes it would be too much food. -service: the first waitress split a setup for 6, moving a small table in the middle of the passing route. Thankfully another server told her she should simply seat us in the table for 4 that was available and out of the way. I asked for tap water and it was not brought. Another waitress then asked what we wanted to drink and I told her I had asked for tap water but it wasn't brought- she returned with one cup of water despite us having a party of 2. -parillada for 2: for $33 it was a very good amount of meat. One large sausage, 4 small paprika sausages and 2 large pieces each of chicken and 2 cuts of beef (total 6 large pieces of meat). The chicken was simply flavored but had a nice grill taste. The meat was very chewy and I had a difficult time chewing it. I also asked for it to be well dine when we ordered because I am prego but for one of the cuts of beef, it was pink/bloody in the center and even after asking them to cook it more it still came back pink.

A great tapas place in the heart of Madrid! I've been traveling around Spain for over a week now and have had many different meals from different restaurants, but this place is still on the very top of my favorites list. The staff is very quick and friendly, and that added to why I like this place, being the first restaurant that I ate at when I landed. My party of 3 ordered the goat cheese with jam, ham croquette, paella, prawns, and a jug of sangria. It was more than enough for us! My favorites were the ham croquette, prawns, and sangria. The croquettes came with shoestring fries that very delicious. The ham croquette wasn't over fried; the crispiness of the bread crumbing was just right! In addition, the fries were amazing even though they were just fries! The prawns came out boiling still in a ceramic plate. It was filled with an olive oil/butter sauce that was soo good. The sangria was the best I had in Spain so far! Not too sweet and a good amount of alcohol mixed in. However, I didn't really like goat cheese and paella. The cheese was huge! I like my cheeses in moderation, but these blocks were too big and therefore, too cheesy. The jam included slightly offsets the cheesiness but not enough for me. The paella rice texture seemed a bit undercooked, so I didn't fully enjoy that dish. Overall, a place worth visiting if you're in Madrid! They also give a small complimentary spicy Spanish sausage with bread dish which is pretty yummy.

Had seafood paella here. It seemed like pre-cooked as it got served just in 5 minutes... It was an OK paella that had standard taste, but lacked of the flavour of saffron and rosemary. It might be a good place for tapas but not for authentic paella. In fact, most restaurants in this area may serve pre-cooked paella as they don't have time. So I was satisfied anyway. Service was good. Chicken wings and bread chips were on the house.

Most patrons got the original, which is egg + potato. We tried the Brie, which was a crowd pleaser. Cheesy and eggy, with bites of cooked potato for texture. Also, got a goat cheese + caramelized onion one that was more goat cheese than onion. Would sub this one out if I come back. Got 4 jamon and 4 carrilerra (cheeks) croquettes. I thought they were medium sized based on the other Madrid croquettes we had. All croquettes we had on this trip were great, and these were certainly on par. You can tell by looking around, the place was emptyish while the tapas places nearby and across the street were full. We actually went inside the restaurant across this place, it was touristy and extremely expensive, we thought, this is not the experience we wanted. We left and entered the Sidreria. Here goes nothing... Here is the lowdown: it is CHEAP, LARGE PORTION sizes, DELICIOUS, super FRIENDLY (bar tender did Everything and was really nice to us. It helped that I speak spanish though) and were you get FREE TAPAS with your drink. Tell me when was the last time you got free tapas in a touristy bar? We ordered a Tinto de Verano (red wine, lemon soda and splash of vermouth) and it was great, cost about 2 euros or so! the only beer though, was San Miguel, but it tastes much better from tap than bottle, we repeated our orders shortly after downing the first batch. The free tapa came as a surprise, we had ordered several (including fried calamari already, and a tortilla) portions again, were cheap and huge. We were full then. At the next round of drinks, another free tapa came. I was surprised again and as a sign of respect, we ate it all again. No comments. A plate of peanuts and soft bread topped with a mayo/potato/fake crab meat. It looked so simple but it was so good! That's when they got me. Simple-delicious (like the tomato on bread and Olive oil) that's it. I was sold and happy we decidedly to enter.
