Stars predominantly for staff service-able to maintain some order given the crowd. Why the crowd was there...I'm not too sure. Food wasn't memorable, might I say tastes like a chain restaurant? Albondigas we sent back bc it was cold. The patatas bravas were aight-needed more salt (more on that later). The pork steak we couldn't finish. Dry and bland. The fried artichoke didn't taste like anything. The only pleasant dish was the gazpacho! Always refreshing. Asked for some Spanish sea flakes to season all the dishes. Received packaged salt. Sigh. Highly concentrated mineral water though. Nice.

Very nice restaurant in the center of Madrid. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. They have both Spanish and English menus. Very creative modern Spanish food. They put a twist on the old fashioned food. Loved their Patatas Bravas, grilled & smoked octopus and Ribera del Duero ! Hated their quesadilla - maybe because my taste buds are spoiled with Mexican quesadillas in So Cal ?? Bottled water was affordable 1.9€ and wine by the glass was 3.5€.

Great location but it is always busy. Suggest to make reservations or have a good group with you when having to wait 30 minutes or more. Everything on their menu is so good! Patatas bravas, ceviche, meatballs and so much more. I suggest getting a pitcher of sangria to share, and definitely eat the fruit afterwards.

This place was recommended to me by another yelper (thanks Briony) and it proved to be a great place to get some Tapas. Firstly it was tricky to find at first, hidden in a corner, but it is worth it so keep looking. By the looks of it there were very few tourists there and it seemed to be more locals which is always a good sign. We sat outside and they have the coolest sprinkler system that blasts you with water vapour every 20 seconds to keep you cool. It was just the ticket in that hot sunshine. Food was great . I LOVED the sirloin with cream cheese and the salmon with Brie was very good to. The Spanish omelette was fine, although if you asked Trudie M she would probably tell you it was awesome. Service was quick and friendly and they had a menu in English. This is a place I will definitely return to next time I am in Madrid.

It's a more upscale restaurant than most other tapa joints I've been to in Madrid, but yummy nonetheless. They do have an English menu and they have outdoor seating. It was a bit hot when I went (August) so we sat inside with the airconditioning :) We got the appetizer sampling, which included the Lateral appetizer, sirloin with caramelized onions, goat cheese with sweet red pepper, brie with salmon, ham croquette and prawn croquette. Everything was delicious except I didn't care much for the lateral appetizer (ironically). I really liked the croquettes! they were just oozing with flavor. The sirloin was also exceptionally good! We also got the avocado tartar with shrimps. I would suggest passing on this. Although the avocado was quite fresh, it wasn't anything particularly special. I also couldn't really taste any shrimp.

So worth the hour wait, the food was amazing. First of all, at the bar they have a mojito station, where the bartender makes adorable mojitos & cocktails with fresh ingredients/muddled fruit. A little steep in price (10-13 euros) but worth it. We had a party of 8 so we ordered a bunch of tapas: -Loved: melted brie and ham on bread, ham croquettes, fried artichokes, GLASS BREAD YUM, (essentially bread with tomato jam), meatballs, patatas bravas -Didn't love: blood sausage, steak & caramelized onions on bread

Tortilla (potato egg omelette) with side of bread in front of burrata & tomato salad drizzled with truffle oil

Wow, wow, wow! When I left here, I did nothing but think of which day I'd return to try more of their delicious foods. Trendy & upscale, but more like hipster clientele restaurant with a lovely outdoor patio for dining al fresco. I wish I could say there was something I ordered that wasn't as good as expected but there wasn't. Waitstaff was polite and professional, didn't forget a thing despite me thinking that they forgot my octopus leg but that came out too before I had a chance to inquire about it. I've learned that in Spain, more so than Italy, they don't rush you when you sit down to a meal. My daughter and I were there about 1 hour, 30 minutes which is a lifetime in any NYC restaurant. I won't boar you with too many details of the meal, but it's worth saying that everything we ordered was perfect! From the drizzle of truffle oil on the burrata and tomato salad, to the "fall off the bone" meat of the bull tail to the sweet grilled onions on the hamburger, everything was incredible. Highly recommend if you're in Madrid, but they seem to have restaurants in Malaga, Monaco & Barcelona as well. I didn't seem to catch too many tourists in this place which must be a great sign if many locals are coming in.

Acachofas (fried artichoke) with jamon. Goat cheese (queso de cabra), lettuce, & roasted red pepper on toast (super good).

The mojitos are awesome. They have multiple variations, some on the sweet side, so be careful, because they go down easily. Everything is tapas and raciones, so it's good to go with people and share. You must try the goat cheese (queso de cabra), lettuce, and roasted red pepper on toast (super good). The artichokes are ok, but there's a TON of fried ham on top, and it would have been better to leave it freshly sliced. Skip the albondigas -- they're dry and the Saudi is kind if salty. Nice decor and a good-size patio. It's on a busy walking street, so expect big crowds and lots of tourists.

    Mojitos & artichoke deliciousness!

I visited on a rainy Thursday night so there wasn't a large crowd and I grabbed an open seat at the end of the bar. A friendly gentleman gave me a menu and asked what I was interested in. When I mentioned the Old Fashioned, he advised that it was an Amaro-based version without the usual bourbon/whiskey spirit. I noticed a Brooklyn and commented that I sometimes made those at home. Very politely he noted that if I was making them in the US, it wasn't with Amer Picon, which isn't available in the US. He's right. So an actual, real Brooklyn it would be! I thoroughly enjoyed the Brooklyn. I also enjoyed some brief conversation with the bartender who was very good. The kind who uses the spoon or straw to taste each drink to ensure it was made properly. As I was paying my bill and mentioning to the gentleman who initially greeted me that I wanted to bring my business partners here later in the week, he wrote his phone number on a business card and told me to call him in advance as the bar got very busy when it wasn't raining. Turns out, this friendly man is Alberto the owner! Guess I didn't do quite as much research as I could have! I regret we weren't able to make a second visit to 1862 Dry Bar on this particular trip, but it is going to be my first stop next time I'm back in Madrid. Great vibe, excellent staff and a classy and friendly owner.

Settled into the very cool cavern-like subterranean space with rough stone walls, vintage blues show posters and a terrific Chicago blues soundtrack. A waiter who spoke English took drink orders, and everybody got bowls of sunflower seeds in the shell. It got crowded, but not ridiculously so, because they limit admission, letting a few new people in when others leave. They feature a rotating roster of blues bands who each do a three-night run. Check out their web site (it's their Facebook page) for who's playing. As usual when I see a music listing somewhere, I looked the group up on YouTube, to check out what they actually sound like. The combo we caught - The Maria Avilas Quartet - came on at 9 pm. It was a good-time Chicago-style blues band with guitar, standup bass, drums and a female singer, and we stayed for most of the second set as well. The crowd was really upbeat and friendly, and the beer was cold. Later in the evening, the waiter offered selected people (lucky us!) free mini-shots. Bottom line: we really enjoyed the place, and highly recommend it for a fun evening out.
