I saw this on Anthony Boutdain's no reservations show and thought I'd try to check it out. The Experience was very special and really think you should check this place out of you want to try something unique. The food is outstanding and the drinks are legendary.

Vermut de la casa on "tap"

We stopped in Bodega de la Ardosa on a whim. We're glad we did. It was about 4:00 pm on a Thursday. In the front seating area, there was plenty of space to stand around and a couple of places to sit. Perhaps this is the perfect time of day/week to visit, as it's apparently very busy later at night. I don't have a lot to report here, as my partner and I only enjoyed one canya and one vermut de la casa. But the atmosphere was so pleasant, and the staff was unassuming, and committed to making sure every patron was taken care of, I just have to recommend this little authentic corner of the city. One member of the staff brought me a stool without being prompted in any way. He did it in a very unassuming way, devoid of expectation for gratitude. An interesting observation: I believe there is a rear seating area patrons can access by actually ducking behind the bar and walking deeper into the space. It was one of the most curious things I've ever seen. People just came in, passed right on to the bar, went underneath, and disappeared to I know not where. It seemed like that's where the restrooms were, too. This seemed to me a very nice, authentic place to have vermut on tap! The vermuth is stored in a really cool, tall urn equipped with little spigots. Quite pretty!

Such a fun traditional Spanish restaurant! This is a great place to experience if you want to know where the madrileños go! What we ordered: after we crawled under the bar to get to the other side (lol) we started off with two glasses of tinto de verano, mixed croquettes, and tortilla española. All of it was very good, especially the tortilla because sometimes they seriously lack flavor. None of it blew me away, but it was good! Beware- this place gets PACKED some nights so maybe for the first time go on a week day. Also note- you need to spend more than 30€ if you're paying with card!

    Salmorejo! Get it!

Phenomenal bar and tapas! Such a cool atmosphere. The tortilla de patata is the BEST in Madrid imho-perfectly cooked outside and gooey inside the way it should be. Don't sleep on the salmorejo either it's so flavorful, creamy, and loaded with toppings-perfect for with your drinks. Atmosphere is really cool, they have a great variety of drinks including beers, and their tapas are out of this world-gets really busy on weekends for good reason!

This well know Bodega in Madrid is a must try when in the city. If you can, I would suggest to go early because this place is packed every night. It is common to see a line to get in. The food is good with a wide variety of local dishes. And their Vermut is a must have. It's worth going for the ambiance and lovely old interior. This is a typical Bodega so please don't expect high end service. The waiters are just too busy serving the many guests as fast as they can. Take note that behind the bar, there is another small room where you need to pass under the counter to access it.

Vibrant little bodega with nice beers, good party wines, and yum tapas. This is a great hang spot to meet friends and chill for the afternoon. Fun traffic going by, good prices, and a romantic, historical vibe. Ace.

This place is full of chill vibes First, I really loved the decor of Bodega de la Ardosa because of the dark, smokey vibe . . . although there was no cigar or cigarette smoke (unfortunately). Our party arrived pretty late in the evening, but this restaurant/bar seems like a good place to meet up with some friends and chill or go to another place. We were lucky that the atmosphere was pretty tame; I believe there were about 6 or so other people at the bar. The service was ok - it was not horrible but it was not amazing. I think the bartenders were a little tired because it was towards the end of the night. The drinks are pretty well-priced. If I were to return to Madrid, I'd definitely grab a drink or four at Bodega de la Ardosa.

BEST. TORTILLA. DE. PATATAS. EVER. But shhhhh don't tell my mom I said that. For real tho, it's near perfection. And that's saying a lot--the Spanish are very serious about this dish. It may seem simple (eggs, onions, potatoes) but you'll see as you work your way across Spain, or even a single street in Madrid, that no tortilla is the same. Egg to potato ratio. Cook of the interior (from runny to more firm). Potato prep (cubed or sliced/fried before or not/etc). A lot of places make them in advance and then slice to order (which is totally fine, as tortilla is actually really good at room temp or cold), but Bodega de la Ardosa makes them super fresh to order...probably because they do it at such a high volume but also cuz they make theirs a little more runny in the middle. Totes my jam. They season it perfectly and serve it with rustic bread. So good. Soooo order the tortilla de patatas, some croquetas, and down it all with some vermouth. Expect a crowd--mostly locals with a few tourists mixed in. If it's too packed in the front, there's a back area where you have to legit crawl under the bar to get to. I hit my head but fully worth it. This place is the life. I told my wife that if we lived in this part of Madrid, I'd eat lunch here twice a week no problem.

An extremely friendly place with great drinks and delicious tapas along with an "Old Madrid" type of atmosphere about it. It really makes you feel like you are in the Old World and, of course you when here, you are, and in the very heart of it. It's just a great place to sit around, chat, meet fellow travelers and meet local or world traveling friends. As might be noted, it's extremely popular with the Yelp community, which is a big plus for me because if you want to speak with knowledgeable people who generally know where everything is or what to do, Yelpers are well known as being the very best. It's small, gets crowded quickly so I'd suggest coming early or at some off hours, but the problem with is that there really doesn't seem to be any off hours for the place. One thing that you will love about the place is the character of it. Its character just seems to ooze out all over the place.

Service was in Spanish or English, and they were patient with my poor Spanglish butchery. Everyone was friendly. Service was paced to be leisurely but it was not slow. Inside was cool on a hot day and decor was upscale. I wouldn't roll in wearing gym shorts and a t-shirt but there was outside seating in the plaza outside. Not that we even considered it that day, evening would have been a different story. The area has a lot to see if you want to wonder around and then swing in or take your time after. The restaurant is located in the heart of Madrid on a very cute street, and it is easy to find and walk there if you stay in the city center. The place is not very big - both times I went there for lunch, there were no tables available, so I had to sit at the bar; once I even had to wait about 7 minutes until one bar spot became free. The restaurant's design is simple, but pretty and lovely. Overall, the restaurant is in very good condition and was perfectly clean both times I visited. The only small downside is that the place is quite noisy, but it did not bother me. One of the best things about this place is the people who work there - both a guy and a lady at the bar were extremely nice and friendly to me; plus, both spoke very good English. They gave me recommendations on what to try, and I followed their advice. The restaurant's menu is not big, but it has all the most popular traditional Spanish dishes. Both times I ordered Rabo de Toro (a traditional Spanish stew), Fardos (squid rolls with bacon and squid ink mousse); and once I also tried croquetas de jamón (ham croquettes). The croquettes were tasty - I loved their flavor and soft texture. One portion includes 6 pieces, and they are quite big and filling. It was my first time trying Fardos (I ordered a 1/3 portion), and it was a great experience - the dish turned very delicious after the bartender mixed it for me. The squid was cooked very nicely, and combined with the fresh bacon and ink mousse, it tasted fantastic. Rabo de Toro (I ordered a 1/2 portion) was also my first time trying this dish, and I loved it - the stew was perfectly cooked, very soft and moist, with rich flavors, and it melted in my mouth. The restaurant also offers a wide variety of drinks, especially wines. I do not drink alcohol, so I was recommended to try grape juice - Mosto, which was extremely flavorful and tasted like fresh pressed grape juice, even though it came from a glass bottle. I loved that drink! Price-wise, all items on the menu seemed reasonable. I paid €8 for 6 ham croquettes, €12 for a half portion of Rabo de Toro, €8 for a 1/3 portion of Fardos, and €3 for one glass of grape juice. It is possible to have a nice full lunch here for around €22, which is reasonable for a restaurant in the heart of Madrid. The place accepts all major credit cards and Apple Pay, which is a big plus. If you visit this restaurant, I strongly recommend trying 1/3 or 2/3 portion of Fardos, a half portion of Rabo de Toro, and their grape juice Mosto - it's enough food to feel full and experience traditional Spanish flavors.

I ordered the Oxtail (Rabo de Toro) and wooooow... easily one of the most tender and delicate pieces of meat I've EVER had. They serve it boneless, but I'm pretty sure if they would have provided a bone, it would've fallen right off. The whole place gives cozy tavern vibes with a rustic interior that feels perfectly Madrid. NOTE: the portions are a bit heavier than most spots. I hate to waste food, especially when it's as immaculate as the Oxtail, but if you're a party of one, you got to do what you go to do.
