Awesome. The best sangria I've ever had. Octopus was amazing, and the staff was super friendly.

Near the Prado. Remarkable Venezuelan food and friendly service from two brothers. Arepas were amazing, particularly burrata with pesto.

Like others, we were looking for something other than tapas and we found this little gem. Cacao looks small when you first walk in, but they do have another level. Service was quick and friendly. We had the reina pepiada arepa (with shredded chicken, mayo and avocado), grilled octopus and the pork tenderloin. They were all soooo good. The caramelized onions on the pork were a bit too sweet for my taste but hubby loved it. Grilled octopus was tender and perfectly seasoned, not rubbery at all. Sangria was pretty good, a bit sweeter than what I'm used to, but it may just be me. For dessert, tres leches cake and quesillo (Venezuelan flan). Both very good. They do have their own version of tapas as well. We didn't get chance to try it this time, but the night is young we may have to come back.

Probably the biggest octopus leg I've eaten! Super tender and juicy, just a bit too salty. The piña colada was yummy, and the steak was a good one as well. The only thing is that I feel that the dishes were all a bit too salty... In addition, the waiter kept forgetting what people were ordering: he'd send the wrong dishes to the wrong tables, come back to ask us 'wait did you want a or b?', etc, and gave people attitude for it (even though he was the one who hadn't paid attention). However, it wasn't as if it completely ruined the meal or anything, but if he had done his job (I've really never seen a waiter be worse at his job.... it was relatively empty too at the time), I would have given 4 stars instead of 3. Overall a good meal.

It was raining and I decided I didn't want to walk to far from my hotel so I decided to stop in. The food was excellent!!! The service was top notch.. I ordered grilled octopus and they didn't over cook it. They turned on the football (Soccor) game while I ate. Truly enjoyed my visit.

The food here was amazing and the staff was super friendly. We ordered the patacones, which are fried plantains flattened into a pancake serve with salsa, guacamole and shredding beef- absolutely delicious. We also ordered chicken and beef arepas which were very tasty and their burrata salad was so good (beware- it's a ton of burrata). We also ordered a pitcher of sangria, which was delicious. They had an awesome music playlist going while we ate which helped to make our dinner an amazing experience. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Madrid!

Cacao is an excellent dinner and snack spot in Madrid. There's a front cafe section, a dining area in the back, and entertainment downstairs. It mainly serves authentic Venezuelan food which was delicious. The service was quick and polite. They speak both Spanish and English (and even have an English menu). We ordered Arepas (which are like sandwiches) and Carne mechada (which is like a pulled beef dish). Both were excellent and flavorful. Pics below! I would recommend you stop by at Cacao on your visit to Madrid!

TL;DR - Hidden gem that is worth a visit! Visited Cacao Restobar for dinne while I was visiting Madrid. I ordered following: - Jamon - Patatas Bravas - Garlic Prawns - Pork Tenderloin - Sangria All of the food that I ordered was great and Sangria was probably one of the best I've had so far. Touch of cinnamon they put in the sangria does an amazing job of completing the flavor of the drink as a whole with other ingredients. When you're done with the meal, they bring out homemade bailey's with your check. Friendly staff, great food and drinks, and fair price.

I just loved this little hidden gem! It was conveinantly located on the same street as our AirBnB so we decided to give it a try for dinner one night. This was probably one of my favorite places to eat in Madrid! The staff was awesome. They seated us quickly, they spoke great English, they were friendly and attentive! They actually cared if we enjoyed our food. The prices were also very good for how fulfilling the food was. Many of the items on the menu were things I'd never heard of but I was excited to try everything. They also have a non-alcoholic drinks menu which was a rare thing in Madrid. This alone made me more than happy with the place. We started off with the Tequenos, which are basically supper yummy cheese sticks. They are huge and stuffed with cheese. They are definitely a MUST. We also tried the chicken Arepa which was essentially a cold chicken salad stuffed between two soft pieces of bread. This was our least favorite item. My husband had the Fajitas and I had the Grilled Octopus. GET THE GRILLED OCTOPUS! It was so tender, juicy, big and just full of flavor. This was the best Octopus I'd had in Madrid (I was eating it everywhere I went!) I would recommend this place to anyone in Madrid for dinner. I would definitely go back any time I make a trip to Madrid.

I stopped by this place around 1pm for lunch while waiting there check into my hotel. The server spoke little English and I was seated right away. I will ordered the grilled Octopus and shrimp in garlic in butter sauce. I was disappointed in how small the shrimps were. However the sauce was very flavorful. They gave you breads on the side so that you can dip them in the garlic butter sauce goodness! The flavor from the shrimps were so good I found the Octopus bland. The Octopus was tender but lack of flavor when compared to the shrimps. However I did not regret ordering it.

AAAAMAZING FOOD. my husband and I went here on a date. We were visiting Madrid for the weekend and was looking for a romantic dinner spot. Although the setting wasn't "romantic" the food was delicious. I couldn't finish my entire meal! If i ever go back to madrid, i will definitely be back.

Well it does and it's amazing! Which a hipster vibe and a friendly staff, the Matute might not be classic Spanish food but it does a great job developing flavors and presenting solid dishes. I tried three difference ones, pulled pork, pork loin and black beans/plantains. All three were excellent! Generous portions for the price. Thr only down side i felt was that the pork loin was slightly overcooked. Other than that, great sauces!! About 5euro per arepa but totally worth it. Bonus they dont charge for water here and have wifi! Overall, i really enjoyed my meal here. They have better arepas than some of the Venezuelan places ive been to in the states. Every time we came, we were eating at unpopular times so the restaurant was never busy but i believe it gets crowded at night. I'm vegan so I inquired which arepas, if any, could be made vegan. I was informed with confidence that there were two options, the veggie or the Caribbean veggie. The Caribbean veggie was the BEST. My meat eating friend enjoyed a couple different selections but her favorite was also the Caribbean veggie. Complete with black beans, fried plantain and avocado, it was loaded up and delicious. They also have salsas for you to rest out on your food. The sangria was delicious and made to order and was something we truly loved from Matute as well.

Our Groupon came with two drinks, three starters, two mains, and dessert! The three starters were Tequenos, Tostones, and Cassava Sticks. All were delicious. My husband and I ordered Arepas as our main. They were giant! I got the chicken Arepa, and my husband got the meatloaf, but it looked more like pulled meat. We both enjoyed them very much, although when I ordered mine I didn't realize that it was more like chicken salad. In retrospect, I would have ordered something with less mayo. For dessert we ordered passion fruit cheesecake. At that point we were stuffed, but we ate it what we could, and it was also really good with a unique taste. My only complaint was I felt like we were a hassle to the woman working. Not sure if it was because of our nationality, the fact that we had a Groupon, or if it was something on her end, but we didn't really feel welcome. Regardless, I enjoyed my meal and would go back if visiting Madrid again.
