If you're staying in Madrid, this is a top notch tapas spot. It is absolutely not touristy, but it gets busy. First time we tried to go at 3 and there was a line out the door. Went at 1230 next day and got in no problem. However shortly after 1 (when they start serving food) a decent crowd gradually piled in. My recommendation is to brush up on some Spanish if you're a tourist, make a reservation if you can, and be patient. Food and wine here is super cheap and worth it all.

Food in Madrid has been difficult traveling with a big family--it is hard to please everyone! But my grandma, mom, sister, and boyfriend all thoroughly enjoyed this place. The restaurant was definitely super busy so be sure to make a reservation. We came here at 10:30 pm for dinner. We started with a bottle of wine and they brought out complimentary bread, cheese, and meat which was very good. My grandma got the cold tomato soup which has more of a mousse consistency but was refreshing and nice to dip with the bread. The padron peppers were a hit and we ended up getting another order as they were flavorful and fresh. We also loved the baby squids--they were so tender! The burrata and garlic prawns were good too. For dessert the chocolate cake was super rich and the cakes both came with yummy ice cream. Service was super kind and they have menus in english, and the servers are able to communicate decently in english. The restaurant has a bustling atmosphere but cleared out a bit towards the end of our dinner. Would highly recommend this place!

Delicious "hole in the wall" type spot in Madrid. We went with friends who are locals to celebrate our honeymoon and were greeted with wonderful seating, service and friendly staff. Tapas style as are most places in this area but we started with Potatoes Bravas and munched on croquettes, steak tartar and a few other small plates. Dessert was the star of the show which is evident in the only food photo I took... the chocolate cake. It was incredible! Sangria is a must order and was delicious. We also enjoyed a lemon drop shot that was yummy!

We ate here once in 2019 and remembered it so fondly we had to come back. You always run a risk trying to recreate magic but it paid off- it was just as delicious this time if not more. We popped in without a reservation and managed to be seated anyway. Luck was on our side. We ordered red sangrias to start- huge glasses and so very tasty. The starter for the table was a potato and fish salad marinated in oil and vinegar and we ate every bite. The dishes that followed were all better than the last- the aubergine was amazing, so were the croquettes and the fries with egg and shrimp. We also ordered 2 desserts that were both perfection- chocolate cake and cheesecake, both served with ice cream. Our hope is that this place never changes so that we can come back again and again when we are in Madrid.

Lovely spot! They'll ask if you've made a reservation, so try to pop in before they get too busy, and they'll try to accommodate. They're busy for a reason. Good wine, tasty eats. Love it!

El ambiente, la comida, el servicio es una experiencia al paladar y a la cultura culinaria de Madrid. Cada selección de vino será el complemento perfecto.

What a find! This place has the best dishes I've had in Madrid, and that's saying a lot. The Gambones and Chipirones dishes were musts.

I would highly recommend this place. I think usually one person speaks English if you are unable to speak Spanish but we were mostly able to get by between my minimal Spanish and the staff's English. I was a little disappointed the original dish I wanted to order was sold out for the evening but that's what happens when you get dinner at 9:30pm I suppose! The prices are great and the food is delicious. I would recommend getting a reservation ahead of time though because it's hard to get a table at dinner time otherwise. The service did leave a little to be desired when it came to getting the check but otherwise it was fantastic.

Note: This is a nicer sitdown with prices to reflect that. This place was recommended by my Airbnb host and it was nearby, so we decided to check it out for a late dinner. Upon entering, it appeared extremely busy. However, door is close to the bar area. Restaurant side was half full, so we were accommodated immediately which was nice! Waiter was friendly, nice, and no problems with his English. We ordered the Slow Roasted Chicken that came with a side salad and Patatas Bravas (sauce on side). Everything was delicious, especially the Roasted Chicken which was tender and came with an amazing sauce that was a bit sweet! Would recommend if you're near the Malasana area!

Huevos rotos con gambones al ajillo

Absolutely amazing, highly recommend. Croquetas and Russian salad were top notch, and the cheesecake was the best I've ever tried in my life. Huevos rotos pictured below was delicious. All of this and more for an unbelievable price. Just do yourself a favor and get a table!

Great food, great service and good prices. But make sure to make reservations because as everything in that area gets pretty crowded.

When we left at 12:45 PM, every table was filled with a few patrons waiting to sit/stand. When you get in, have some people grab a seat while one person goes to the front to order. Their tortillas are sold by the piece, which is one sixth of a giant circular frittata. They also sell croquettes in pairs and there's a discount for getting 8. Most patrons got the original, which is egg + potato. We tried the Brie, which was a crowd pleaser. Cheesy and eggy, with bites of cooked potato for texture. Also, got a goat cheese + caramelized onion one that was more goat cheese than onion. Would sub this one out if I come back. Got 4 jamon and 4 carrilerra (cheeks) croquettes. I thought they were medium sized based on the other Madrid croquettes we had. All croquettes we had on this trip were great, and these were certainly on par. I can see why Pez Tortilla is so popular with many locations. It's a hearty meal at a very affordable price.

You can tell by looking around, the place was emptyish while the tapas places nearby and across the street were full. We actually went inside the restaurant across this place, it was touristy and extremely expensive, we thought, this is not the experience we wanted. We left and entered the Sidreria. Here goes nothing... Here is the lowdown: it is CHEAP, LARGE PORTION sizes, DELICIOUS, super FRIENDLY (bar tender did Everything and was really nice to us. It helped that I speak spanish though) and were you get FREE TAPAS with your drink. Tell me when was the last time you got free tapas in a touristy bar? We ordered a Tinto de Verano (red wine, lemon soda and splash of vermouth) and it was great, cost about 2 euros or so! the only beer though, was San Miguel, but it tastes much better from tap than bottle, we repeated our orders shortly after downing the first batch. The free tapa came as a surprise, we had ordered several (including fried calamari already, and a tortilla) portions again, were cheap and huge. We were full then. At the next round of drinks, another free tapa came. I was surprised again and as a sign of respect, we ate it all again. No comments. A plate of peanuts and soft bread topped with a mayo/potato/fake crab meat. It looked so simple but it was so good! That's when they got me. Simple-delicious (like the tomato on bread and Olive oil) that's it. I was sold and happy we decidedly to enter.

I'm always amazed that such a gem exists in the heart of Madrid, a city center filled with tourist traps. Malaespina draws both locals and tourists -- and for good reason. The food quality to price ratio is unbeatable. On our most recent visit, we had huevos estrellados, tortilla tapas, sangria, and espressos, and spent about $20 for the two of us. We had a super late and big lunch that day, so we didn't go until around 11pm. It was a Friday night and we waited about 25min to get a table. It was quite cramped in there, with tables basically on top of each other, though that's typical in Europe.
