I've had a number of very poor customer service experiences with Alaska. I was making a connecting flight in Seattle to Bellingham (45 min flight from Seattle), however, my family had come down to Seattle for the day and we decided I would just miss my connection and drive back to Bellingham with them. WRONG. I called Alaska as a courtesy to tell them I wasn't going to be on the plane, and they told me my returning flights would be cancelled if I didn't make the connection (as in physically sit on the plane). I wasn't asking for a refund on the ticket, I was just saying my butt wasn't going to be in the seat on the Bellingham flight that I had already paid for. Customer service was incredibly rude and unhelpful. By the time I got off the phone with them it was too late to make the connection and I had to pay almost $300 extra to rebook the return flights. It was insane and illogical. While this is not a reflection of the entire flight crew, twice I've encountered rude and demeaning flight attendants or ticket counter employees which has tainted my experience as a whole. I'll be sticking to southwest from here on out, a cheap flight is not worth the hassle and bad attitudes. read more

The best airlines ever! I left a bag in the airplane. Realized it as my ride was picking up. Started to panic And I get a call. I have no idea how they researched and got my cell phone number so fast My bag was not even labeled. And they met me and gave me back my bag. I always have constant good service with Alaska. I hope anyone reading this saves themselves from a subpar reward program, and a terrible customer service outlook. New policy after new policy gouging their long term clients. I get better deals at delta with more perks at a lower status. I'm good 75k with Alaska. That's pretty high up on the list and I'm treated like a second rate citizen by all of the grumpy bitchy shitty people that work answering phones or working inside the airports. They all seem to have an arrogant attitude and abuse what tiny power they have across all levels of employment. It's kinda becoming a big thing among many frequent flyers that I encounter. They say the same thing I do I hope more people write about this and they change their crap policies back to benefit us. If I could go lower I would. Alaska has an absurd policy that if you aren't on the plane 40 minutes before the flight leaves you can't get on at all. We had boarding passes in hand when we arrived 38 minutes before the flight left and were told we would not be boarding. Despite calls to "reservations" we were told nothing could be done and we were out of luck on the money we had spent. The agents at the desk were rude and unhelpful and when we called reservations they were worse. We were forced to go try and find a flight on another airline. We managed to find a southwest flight and the employees of southwest were very accommodating and happy to work with us. Quite the contrast from mean and condescending attitude of seemingly every Alaska Air employee we interacted with. Will never fly this airline again. read more

First time on Alaska Air! On our trip to Hawaii, we flew American, great experience, Hawaiian Air, fantastic experience, Alaska, horrible! We were loaded on plane, forced to sit for 2 plus hours, unloaded, told we might be completely canceled, waited another hour plus, told they found a new plane, waited more, finally got on and eventually made our way to Hawaii. We were not fed, even tho flight was over 5 hours! Hawaiian air on the way home fed us a very nice lunch, complimentary cocktail, and had the free entertainment! We missed 1/2 day of our vacation, and they emailed us a $50 voucher?!!!!! The entire experience was horrible, and I can't imagine choosing to fly with them in the future. $50 is completely not enough for the lost time, the lack of service, and stress ! Next trip to Hawaii, I will definitely choose Hawaiian Air, you will feel like your vacation starts and ends with being well appreciated, and cared for! Avoid Alaska, especially for a long flight, you will be miserable, and hopefully not forced to give up 1/2 day of your precious vacation time! read more

DO NOT BOOK A CAR THROUGH ALASKA AIRLINES! DO NOT BOOK THROUGH THRIFTY. CANCELLING ALL FUTURE BOOKINGS. We booked through ALASKA AIR CAR, which ended up being through another third party (CARTRAWLER) who booked though THRIFTY. DETAILS: Reservation was for PHX (Phoenix) on 5/10 for 1:30pm pickup. The line was combined with Dollar with over 150 people were waiting. People in the front of the line were saying they had been waiting 2 hours. I have pictures. Insane. At that time - I use my Conf email to try to talk to someone either on cell or via the internet. The links were dead. Also called thrifty and they could not help me because I booked through a 3rd party. After waiting 40 min with little movement we rented at the only other agency that had cars left, for more money. I had a meeting I needed to get to by 4pm, which should have been plenty of time. I talked to Alaska Airline about the horrible service and they pushed me CARTRAWLER. We just looked at Yelp only to see this is a LONG TERM problem in Phoenix. Despite the very polite customer service gals with Alaska, Alaska Air needs to know this reflects very badly on them. I booked a flight to Phoenix from Seattle, and added on a car through Alaska. It was booked through Dollar Rental. Got to the car rental site and the line was extremely long. It took us 2 hours to get the car. Signed the contract and went downstairs only to find out they put us (five adults and all our bags) in a compact SUV instead of the mid-size SUV that we had reserved. Our only option, according to the lot attendant, was to go back up and stand in that 2-hour line again, to try to swap out for what we reserved. We didn't choose to do that. We would have gone elsewhere, but Alaska charged us $380 to hold the car, and wouldn't cancel it when I called while standing in line. When I returned, I contacted Alaska just to let them know my disappointment and to get reimbursed for the cost between the two different vehicles. They said they can't do anything about it and I need to deal with Dollar. I got no response from Dollar, and no call back from a supervisor when the agent I spoke to said, "You signed the contract, we can't reimburse you any money." I feel like Alaska should stand by their third-party contacts and make things right with THEIR customer. I will never book a car through Alaska again. I am very disappointed. I would suggest you look carefully when you are looking to book any third-party things through Alaska. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! read more

I use to fly a lot but as the cost raises and terror took the skies I stopped. I however flew Alaska Airlines one way from Seattle to Phoenix to transport my beloved dog. They are still the best! Their pet transport fee is still the lowest when your pet travels at the same time you do. When I got to my seat there was a post-a-note saying I'm on board too! That reassured me, and others like me that our pet was on the plane. I thought that was such a sweet and thoughtful touch. Kudos Alaska Airline! I flew you also because many trips between Seattle and Alaska with my prior dog had been successful and horror free. You know how to take care of our fury members, as well as the rest of us and you do it at fairer fare than the others. Your cleaning staff is awesome after the flight they get in there and tidy things up for the next group, find and turn in our forgotten items like my L.G. Lotus phone and quickly get it to us before we leave the airport! When I went to claim my baggage and dog your porter took the work out of it by having all my belongings and my dog gathered and ready to go curbside for my pick up! The porter checked to make sure my dog was mine and even minded my bags while I took my dog to the PHX doggie walk at the airport to relieve herself! All in all I felt I and my canine companion were looked out for like we were more than just a head count from the start to the end of the trip. Further more all my belongings including my computer and camera equipment in my checked in baggage came to me undisturbed and undamaged. I thank you a thousand times for your kid gloves to my personal belongings and with my dog. I'll be flying with you again. read more

I am extremely disappointed in Alaska Airlines and the way they handled our departure this morning. We arrived at Phoenix Sky Harbor on time. We checked in and proceeded to the infamous security line.....where we waited and waited. We raced to our gate with 9 minutes to spare and the airplane waiting as well! The woman who greeted us announced that they were not opening the door to allow us to board because we were 9 minutes late and 10 minutes is the cut off! Are they serious????? We paid full fare for a first class ticket, NOT that that should matter, but we did pay three times a normal fare for better service! The kicker is they knew we were checked in and had our bags on the plane and wouldn't make a concession for 1 minute and a TSA delay! Seems to me I recall many times WAITING for a late passenger to board! My money is on THEY ALLOWED SOMEONE TO UPGRADE. We will avoid ever flying Alaska Airlines! My husband and I recently used Alaska Air to relocate to Hawaii with our 9 pets. With such an unusual case, we expected difficulties, but they were great. The reps on the phone were extremely helpful, accommodating, and nice. When we arrived in Chicago the lady was very thorough checking us in, and made us feel comfortable leaving our pets in her capable hands. The Seattle airport was the same good experience. We really appreciated they provide cards for each of our pets to let us know they were all boarded. The flight attendants on each flight seemed genuinely nice, and responded to all our inquiries regarding our pets. We really appreciated their care towards our pets. We will definitely use them again when we visit family back on the mainland. read more

Flew in late evening from Portland oregon to Phoenix on Alaskan Airlines. Alaskan Airline allowed a pet dog on the flight. Some people call them a comfort animal. They are considered a pet. This was not a service dog as those dogs are trained to obey commands given them by their owner. This dog started whining soon after it got on the plane. Whines turned into yipes and finally out right barking. I was sitting directly behind the person with the dog. After putting up with this for about 45 minutes I asked to be moved. I don't know why Alaskan Airlines or any airline allows pets on their planes. This is a huge imposition on passengers around these animals. I will not be flying Alaskan anymore until they change their pet policy. If more passengers would boycott Alaskan, maybe they would change their policy. read more

They go above and beyond with customer service--even when I've spoken with them on the phone! Now, I only fly with Alaska Airline. My first time flying with Alaska Air... I was really surprised by the awesome customer service. I have flown with other airlines before and have always waited at least 45 minutes to an hour before being able to speak to a customer service representative. I had to revise my itinerary this past weekend (Seattle to Phoenix) and had to call in 4 times. Not once did I wait more than 2 minutes to speak to a real life representative. We chose to fly Alaska because it is smaller, and we expected that would mean better service. Wrong. Because there is an apostrophe in my last name (think O'Brien or O'Malley) the system couldn't find our information on either end of the flight. Seriously? An airline reservations system that is thrown by an apostrophe? To make matters worse, they were terribly short-staffed in our departure city (Seattle) which meant standing and waiting in a long line while they tried to fix this silly problem. Yippee! Alaska Airlines totally redeemed themselves for me. I got great customer service - the gate agent in SEA found me an aisle seat instead of a crummy middle seat. The flight attendants (actually they are more like flight safety attendants - just saying, so give them the respect they are due) back to PHX seemed very conscientious about getting passengers to keep their stowed luggage in the overhead bins nearest their seats. The inflight service was friendly and efficient, soooo major kudos! read more

First off we are flying with little children and they dont sit us together , second huge mechanical issues with incompetent mechanics. 2x now we have boarded and un boarded and so far our flight is 2 hours delayed with no resolution in sight. Simply the best, I just wish they flew to more places out of Phoenix! Going out of Terminal 2 is easy and convenient, the people are friendly, the planes are clean and new (unlike the garbage on Southwest and USAirways), and their ticket prices are reasonable. my first time to fly with this airline. i must say i was impressed with their customer service. the attendants at the check in counter were very helpful. the flight attendants were friendly as well. on board, the seats were spacious compared to other domestic airlines i flew with. every seats have charging station for any device you need to charge. all in all, i had a pleasant experience. i will definitely fly again with alaskan airline. read more

If I could give a negative star I would give -10. Very disappointed! Mom and Grandma (67 yrs old and 89 yrs old) are still at the airport because they were left. They arrived 2 hours prior to their flight because it takes longer for them to get situated. Checked in and a wheelchair was provided. They were taken to their gate and they began to wait. When Mom (Enedina) approached the gate agent she said they were too early so they sat right in front to wait. After 2 hours passed and the flight time came and went Mom asked again and they were told the flight was changed to a different gate and had LEFT!!! The Gate Agent, not once apologized since she was the one who had already spoken to them and checked their tickets. She said too bad and they could only go to San Jose, CA...that's not even funny. She was short and had zero empathy for these two senior ladies. read more

I LOVE Alaska Air. They get 10 stars for customer service. The reps go out of their way to make things smooth for your travel. They are ALWAYS polite and kind and they just feel human. They are funny and try to help you see the bright side of every situation. We have been flying with them once a year for the past 34yrs and have NEVER been disappointed. That doesn't mean we didn't have some bumps along the way, because we have. But the reps did every thing in their power to make it better and really, isn't that what great customer service is about. Treating the customer in a manner in which you would like to be treated. Everyone makes mistakes. But this Airlines acknowledges them and then makes it up to you. P. S. I have NEVER been on a flight where the Stewards were not super friendly and gracious. I don't know about anyone else's experience with Alaska Air, I can only tell you how consistent they have been over the past 34yrs that we travel with them and I have traveled with United, American, Southwest and Delta and I can not say the same about any of them. They where very lenient in allowing bags and kept me accommodated with a couple snacks and beverages free of charge. The seating isn't the most comfortable, but the legroom is above average and the free on-flight movies where also nice, all for a very good price. Would definitely fly again read more

Nancy Nancy Nancy. I wouldn't use Alaska EVER again no matter how much savings I would receive. We arrived to the airport at 6:05 for a 7am departure pre-checked in with boarding pass in hands yet Nancy would not accept the fact we made it in a timely manner while stalling and arguing with us about a 40min. Cutoff we left her counter at 6:23 that's 3mins passed cutoff and they refused us my wife and I had to take a leave of absent from work because of this. While waiting for management which Nancy said there was no manager?!?!? We had witnessed her give 3other families attitude and stalled them thus leaving them all late for flights and we all MISSED our flights this morning... we had spoken with an airport employee NOT from the airline, and she asked if the attendant was named Karen and she even described other complaints about her. Seems it's okay for Nancy to reject flights based on her attitude. Oh FYI 3 customers behind us got on the same flight no worries and they had 4bags and a big dog to check in. How did they get through???? Keep in mind we were ALREADY checked in with boarding passes in hand and couldn't get on our original flight scheduled a month before scheduled departure. We had to settle and take a next day flight WOW you would think buying the tickets a month in advance would make things easier, SOUTHWEST is great never once had a problem with them go with southwest!!!! read more

The problem my wife had was she booked a flight to Seattle using her frequent flying points. Last week she found out she would be unable to fly to Seattle, sloshed tried to cancel her flight and get her points back, unable to do this , but for a charge of $125.00 they would be able to do it...... Such a lame excuse, why not give a credit for our next flight if you wish to keep us flying with Alaska. read more

Well I have not flown Alaska for awhile but I am hoping for the best. I asked about when is the best time to request exit rows and I was told they are considered premium seats so there would be an additional charge that I could pay 24 hours prior to checkin. Really? I volunteer to help someone in an emergency to exit and you are charging me? I guess other people don't make a fuss about paying it. My husband is tall so we always volunteer to sit there. I was told well there is more room thats why we charge extra. I asked if I could use my Price guarantee money in the alaskan bank from this flight and was told no but I could use my points. Flew this airline once when I was flying from PHX to PDX (Portland, Oregon). Really enjoyed my flight experience. This airline flies out of Terminal 2, which is the first terminal once you are off from I-10. Easy parking access and literally walk right in to the security check-point. Will definitely try again if I'm going to the PNW area again. read more
