Airports are true gateways and access doors to the rest of the world. As points of arrival or departure for travellers, they play a critical part in the perception of destinations. In our recent trip to Phoenix in June, my partner and I landed at Sky Harbor, dubbed America's Friendliest Airport, located just three miles east of the downtown. The atmosphere truly lives up to the name. The views here were absolutely stunning, especially watching planes take off and land with the desert mountains in the background. Terminal 3 was clean. Clear signage in getting around was smooth and stress-free. The SkyTrain ride to the car rental center was efficient and convenient. TSA lines were the shortest in any of our travels, only a few minutes. The staff were friendly and professional. We had a really positive experience at this airport. read more

They sent us an email explaining they had to change flight times and such. They said if we could not fly on their new schedule they would refund our money. We put in for this refund THREE TIMES now and it keeps coming back as denied even though the CSR clearly sees a note on the cancellation that it's eligible for the refund!!! They changed our flight and stole in excess of $4000!!! read more

Yes our red eye was delayed from about 10:30pm to 9am the next morning. We do not fly United often. We never left the house so it's not like we were stuck at the airport. They did give a $15 food credit, I think they could have given more. The actual flight was fine, once it happened. The positive was that they do have an outlet to charge devices, which is important on a 5 hour flight. Service was fine. read more

I checked into both of our flights on my iPhone United app 24 hours prior to our departures, including our two checked luggages. I will summarize both of our round trip flights from IAD to PHX and PHX to IAD here: Our IAD United bag drop went smoothly. Our IAD TSA Pre-Check also went smoothly. We took the usual airport transport from the main terminal to the C Terminal. Our UA1858 departed IAD Gate C7 at 12:50 PM and arrived at PHX on schedule at 2:57 PM. Our C7 Gate was conveniently adjacently located next to the United Club near C7. We were both in Group 1 boarding. Boarding went smoothly. We had cross aisle seats 10C and 10D on a nice Boeing 737-800. Cabin service was very good. Our local friend picked us up from PHX. I again checked into both of our flights on my iPhone United app 24 hours prior to our departure, including our two checked luggage. Our friend drove us back to PHX for our flight to return to IAD. Our PHX United bag drop also went smoothly. Our PHX TSA Pre-Check also went smoothly. Our UA1141 departed PHX Gate E3 at 1:30 PM and arrived at IAD early at 8:57 PM. The United Club was also near Gate E3. I will separately review both IAD and PHX United Clubs. We were both in Group 1 boarding. We boarded on time at 1:28 PM. We again had cross aisle seats 10C and 10D. Our aircraft was a nice Boeing 737 MAX 8. Cabin service was very good. Both flights were smooth. Our two luggages arrived at IAD carousel 4 within a reasonable amount of time. read more

I HATE these airlines. No matter the situation DO NOT AT ALL COSTS BOARD HERE. I booked everything in advance ($2,000) of things to be exact and I told the woman working there about that and she said sorry in a VERY sarcastic way and gave me a bag of crappy stale pretzels to "make up for it" and the flight was delayed 2 DAYS. When I finally boarded, there were crumbs everywhere and the bathroom still had fresh crap in the toilet. I was so offended. I would rather walk to my destination. read more

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport has seen improvements over the years. I've traveled through (the now defunct Terminal 2), Terminal 3 and Terminal 4. The old Terminal 2 was outdated, had no charging stations and the "regular" wall outlets were in such poor repair, it seemed plugging anything in would immediately cause a fire. It's only benefit was getting from curb to gate in minutes. I'm glad United Airlines has moved to Terminal 3. Terminal 3 was completely remodeled and expanded. It has a sleek, modern feel and plenty of amenities. It can be a hike to get to your gate, so arrive on time. To make your trip a bit smoother, I strongly recommend using the UA App. You can download Boarding Passes to your Apple Wallet, get updates (push, text, email) to stay informed and arrange for (paid) WiFi. Be sure to download the app PRIOR to your flight; you won't be able to do so during the flight. Terminal 4 is acceptable and the recently (last year or two) remodeled Southwest Airlines concourse has a cool, relaxing vibe. On my most recent visit, I traveled through Terminal 3. While busy, it didn't seem so overcrowded that the staff couldn't handle to flow of traffic. In fact, United Airlines employees were plentiful and eager to assist. I'm just not sure why their "Express Baggage Check In" has the word "express" in it. It's just a set of self serve kiosks to print tags. There's nothing "express" about it. While Economy Plus offers more legroom, the seats (bottom and back) are hard and uncomfortable. It's especially difficult for cross country or long haul flights. The number of charging stations throughout the airport is appreciated. For food, Sky Harbor has plenty of options, including many local favorites. I just wish they were open more hours throughout the day. Most are useless if you're taking a red eye flight. This is particularly noteworthy, given my red eye flight offered no dinner or snack service and it was "lights out" shortly after takeoff. As long as you arrive in the recommended two hour time frame, you can make your way through the airport with ease. Just be sure to download the UA app in advance and bring your own snacks to avoid getting "hangry". read more

United really needs to up there game and become a world class International airline. The food has gotten worse and not sure which caterer they have hired recently. The Fish tasted like hospital bland food and had no flavors. They served exactly the same meals twice on both sectors. What is going on with folks deciding these type of things for passengers. The business class seat was not that comfortable and they don't show on seat map, if the window is visible. Chose the wrong sat for a 24 hour flight and got nothing out of it as could not see anything. Also, they did not allow to choose a special meal throughout this flight after paying such high price. Washrooms were not being cleaned. Snacks were also very ordinary. What are we paying for? Compared to Singapore Airlines and Emirates, this does not stand out at all. read more

Story time! So, the plane was too small for everyone's luggage. Big deal, it happens all the time right? One of the attendants told me specifically that my luggage would go in cargo, and I'd get it back at the gate. What really happened was they put mine and a few other people's luggages on a completely different flight without telling any of us. We landed in Colorado Springs, only to find out my luggage was not there. None of the luggages were. Me, my sister, and a large group of angry passengers went to customer service. They told us an hour. An hour goes by... still nothing. 2 hours. 3 hours... eventually me and my sister had to go to our hotel, me without my belongings. I called United multiple times, because no one was helping me. 12 hours later they track my luggage and tell me it's in Montana. After many, many more calls, I finally got them to fly my stuff back to Colorado. I shouldn't have had to force United's hand so much over the phone, but they finally got it to my hotel after enough nagging. In total, I didn't have my luggage for a full 24 hours. The workers were quite rude, minus a select few. Then on the way back from the trip, our flight was delayed. Usually it's out of the airline's control, but not this time. This time they overpacked it and we had to wait two hours stuck inside the plane. We missed our layover and got stuck in the airport for another 3 hours. It was almost 8 hours because a worker lied to us about the next flight being full! The exit seat was still available, and me and my sister are both old enough. We managed snag the earlier flight in the exit row. Still, this traveling experience was a disaster. United, please work on better management and customer service. I still didn't get my reimbursement. read more

I fly United pretty often and the United employees that I've encountered in Phoenix are generally pleasant and polite. The boarding process is well handled and the gates are clean and comfortable. When everything is on time there's no issue, but when there's a flight delay United seems to fall apart. The gate agents don't seem to have the same information that their app or customer service teams have, which creates unnecessary confusion. On a flight to Denver just before the Labor Day weekend the gate agents told us the flight was canceled. Panic ensued as everyone scrambled to figure out their plan B. The app said delayed... not canceled. And the chat person I connected with also confirmed it was delayed. Ugh! And as things progressed, what was on the board at the gate was like 10 minutes behind the app updates. We were getting text messages before the gate agents apparently. Delays happen... not a complaint about that. But when they do, United needs to ensure there's a united front (pun intended) between their teams and systems. read more

Horrible airline, we got stuck for two hours cause one of there stewardesses hurt her finger!!! Freaking ridiculous

My company booked me a flight on United to/from Phoenix to Dubai and back. Outgoing trip was nice, but the trip back was the flight from hell. First off, I was supposed to fly back at about 2AM Saturday morning. Wed evening I was checking my flight and noticed the leg from Dubai to Newark was canceled. No explanation why and I was not notified. I contact the airlines on their chat platform (which sucks, but they make it damn near impossible to talk to a human). They tell me all their flights from the Middle East are canceled and let me know I can be on a flight a week later. They ask, "is that acceptable?. Nope, not in any way. So, I book with Lufthansa and get a flight leaving in 5 hours. Abu Dhabi to Munich to Denver to Phoenix. Last leg is on United. I check out, get to the airport and get on my flight. AD to Munich - great (Etihad is a pretty good airline). Munich to Denver is even better (Lufthansa is a GREAT airline). Then it goes bad. Get through customs in Denver, transfer my bags to United for the last leg, and get to the United gate about 5 minutes before boarding is supposed to start. No gate agent, but two pilots sitting outside the gate. Lots of people at the gate. I check online to see the flight is canceled. I asked if someone else had seen that and now everyone is checking. They got notifications - I didn't. Finally, 10 minutes later, I get a notification that I have been rebooked for 18 hours later. Uh, hell no. Time to call Southwest. Get a reservation - Denver to LV, LV to Phoenix, no plane change. Get back on the United chat to try to figure out what I am going to do with my luggage. Sat on the chat for 30 minutes, without talking to anyone, before I give up. Got home around 11pm, 36 hours after leaving the hotel. In the morning I call United and get told one of my two bags was scanned in at the Phoenix airport. Second bag location shows as in Denver. I take a chance, grab a friend and go to the airport so I can get to the baggage service area while friend sits in car. Get to the baggage service area at 8AM to be greeted with a sign that says they will be back at 8:30. Guy sitting there tells me he has been waiting since 7AM and the one employee told him she would not open later. I can see my bags. Some lady comes in, scans some bags, opens the door and asks the guy what flight he was on. Shuts door, looks at some bags and then tells him she does not see them. By this time there are about 8 customer waiting. She announces she doesn't open til 8:30. That is when I said, "Ma'am I can see my bags. I don't care what time you open. Do your damn job and provide some customer service." She asked the other customers if they minded that I went first, to which they all replied "No, we don't" She shuts the door again and putters around the bags. Now, she doesn't know my name, which bags are mine, where I came in from or anything. What the hell was she looking for? So I knocked on the glass, held up my ID and pointed to my bags. She got them out, DO NOT FLY UNITED IF YOU NEED CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU WILL GET NONE. Oh, and the kicker was I got an email from United for a 15.00 coupon to use at a restaurant. Really? read more

Took a first class flight to Houston and I must say every experience is different. ... 1. All other first class flights with United we are offered a drink before take off and warm towel. But, not on this flight 2. We always have great customer service!! 3. We preordered our flight meal but when it came to this flight they were out of the meal my husband picked!! Mind you he picked his meal 5 days before the flight so you would think they would have set one aside! The reason this is an issue is because my husband is on a certain diet so the other options they had left didn't fit his needs so I had to give him half of my meal. Some of the worst customer service I've witnessed. With absolutely no line and 4 agents standing together, I've never seen paying customers so readily dismissed. I was waiting in an open area just behind the ticketing kiosks and watched an active military person, in uniform, request assistance. Now if you fly, you see this all the time because active duty persons receive different baggage assistance. Every single agent looked up at the man and then looked back down at their phones. No one addressed him for 2-3 minutes and even then, he had to say "excuse me" 2 more times. Lord bless that man for exhibiting the patience he did. I have never seen anything like this, ever. Another person walked through the line and stood at the front, staring at the agents, which took the same 2-3 minutes to assist the customer. This happened in mid-November, when flights were still partially empty and people should be happy they're working. These were paying customers who were treated as though they did not exist! I expect so much more from United and their team members, especially during a pandemic which has been stressful enough on many of us. I have had to fly 3 more times since then due to work requirements, but I have made it a point not to choose United. This type of treatment is beyond unacceptable. read more

Since I have nothing else to do let me take the opportunity to tell you how awful United Airlines is for me right now. I requested wheelchair assistance and I was taken to the club lounge, everyone was great there. When it was time for my flight two wheelchair attendants came and said the flight was canceled the receptionist in the club lounge said they did not have that information and that I should be taken to the gate. I was taken to the gate and the flight was not canceled but delayed 30 minutes. Upon arriving at the gate everyone was in a state of confusion because the destination for the flight posted was a different destinations from what was on boarding passes and the United app for that gate. The attendants seemed upset with the flyers because they were confused and felt passengers should have known to follow their boarding pass, despite the boards display. The flight was later delayed again before being eventually canceled. They had cited that all of the planes have been rerouted. However, all the planes started showing up that they claimed were rerouted. Again, this to everyone in a state of confusion. Now that the plane crew was there, they saw that the planes couldn't fly because the crew need to sleep. Glad they realize someone needed sleep. They told all passengers that because it was weather related that no one would receive vouchers, and that everyone had to pick up their luggage and bring it back again tomorrow. There was just one lady at the counter, trying to handle long lines of people. At one point she became so frustrated she began yelling that, people should go downstairs to the ticket counter where they had more agents because she was just one person. During this time, I was left sitting in a wheelchair for 55 minutes without anyone coming to assist me in a wheelchair so I could get to baggage claims to pick up my bags. Because I was left sitting so long without coming for my bags they were no longer on the carousel when I arrived. When I did get my bags and asked to speak to a supervisor, the agent initially tried to decline by telling me that the supervisor would say the same thing that she was saying. I asked her if she could call a supervisor anyway. She stated that she called for a supervisor and they would come within 15 to 20 minutes. Needless to say 15 or 20 minutes was nowhere near the amount of time it took for the United supervisor to show up. The attendant that finally came to push me to baggage claim, call the wheelchair supervisor to come. That supervisor did show up in a relatively short time, but they stuck with the party line about how many people flew that was canceled and how they were short handed. OK going with the theory. I am sure everyone who flew did not need wheelchair assistance, but if they say so, it shows that they don't have enough personnel, or they are extremely inefficient as an airline because I am sure this is not the first time that this has happened. When the United supervisor did finally show up, there was more of the same, explaining when its the weather United is not responsible for helping you find hotels or transportation or giving you vouchers or apparently pushing your wheelchair. Because of the time of morning, finding a hotel airport shuttle was impossible. Even worse I had called in prior to my flight and let the airline know that I received insulin while traveling and that I needed a way to keep it cold. I was told that when I got to the gate I could ask for a cooling box for the insulin. Just let me say that never happened and when I mentioned that to United, they told me the airport was pretty cold and that the insulin will probably be OK. One would think with all the money airlines charge these days, money, creeping you up with food charges, baggage charges, Wi-Fi charges etc. they would be able to buy some good customer service or at least provide assistance. Since they are constantly over booking flights, maybe they should consider overbooking the personnel to work those flights read more

Wow! I made a reservation that was confirmed 2 weeks in advance of travel to go from Phoenix to Newark, NJ on a 7am flight Friday Sept 8th. They voice messaging is extremely frustrating but I finally got a message that it would take about 30-40mins to talk with an agent!! After waiting 30 mins I talked to the agent. I asked her why the flight was cancelled. I was told they changed planes and my seat was no longer available. So asked what flight they could reschedule me on and they wanted to put me on a Red Eye for the next night. That was unacceptable. So I got rebooked on the same flight for the next morning. Firstly, if you purchase a "Basic Economy" ticket on this airline, you are definitely a second class citizen! You have no choice of seat, you board last (no matter when you check in) & you are forced to pay to check what you planned to be your carryon. If this is your second bag, it'll run you $40 one way. You can't purchase food or beverages without downloading their app & registering a credit card. I had a connecting flight in Denver which was delayed: first from 7:20pm to 8:08, then 9:55, then 10:55, then cancelled. I was rebooked for 6am the following morning. No vouchers for hotels available, unbelievably long lines for customer service with people waiting over 4 hours to NOT be helped. I was told I could get my own hotel room & apply to United for reimbursement. Ya, right. I'm sure that's a piece of cake. Wow, I worked a year to get a vacation and am treated this way by a service industry that depends on people flying with them again. I work in service, this is pitiful. From PHX-DEN-ICT . Canceled my connecting flight due to "weather". Despite watching other planes take off and others land. My flight from PHX was delayed, and then they rushed everyone on and said it'd be fine. Halfway through the flight, the connection is cancelled. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE EVER PUT US ON THE PLANE FROM PHX-DEN. United knew exactly what was happening. No connections to get to ICT for 2 days. So now I have to buy a room, transportation, bathroom necessities, different clothes, etc. My bags are somewhere not here, so I have nothing. Customer service has no room vouchers, no food vouchers, no travel vouchers, nothing and said I was on my own because of weather. They told me to kick rocks and kept giving me the "oh I'm sorry sir, there's nothing we can do, it's a holiday, it seems like your upset" that was the least I'd call it. Basically, avoid this airline at all costs, even if it means paying another $100-$200 to get to where you need to go, DO IT. I'm out $500 on top of all my reservations that I'm not getting back, and it's only day one of my 6 day vacation, now cut short to 3 days. I can't believe I'm paying for this experience. read more

My wife and I are both physically disabled septuagenarians. We both used our respective wheelchairs til the time we had to physically board our United Airlines Flight no. 2390 at Los Angeles Airport bound for Phoenix , Arizona on March 8, 2023. One flight attendant was at the back end of the plane and saw us both practically limping our way to our seats with our respective handcarrry bags. That flight attendant was busy munching peanuts and totally ignored us as if we were invisible. No smile. No greeting. Not even a nod of any sort. She did see my frail wife who stands at 4 ft.11 asking the help of another passenger in placing her handcarry on the overhead bin. She was just standing there and kept eating her peanuts. I could not help my wife because of my severe pain on my shoulder and arms which severely limits my range of motion. We are extremely disappointed with this particular flight attendant who is very unprofessional, very uncaring and is a " bad egg" who ruins whatever good service United Airlines is trying to project. She should very well know that in the flight manifesto there should be notes that we are " disabled". It doesn't matter if we are disabled or not. This flight attendant is an uncaring spirit who should not be in this kind of job. I managed to take her picture. I would be glad to discuss this negative experience with whoever at UA is in charge of these matters. read more
