I've been an American Airlines member for centuries it seems. Each time I fly (more recently) with American, there is some delay or other issues with my flight. It's never a smooth schedule. I've had my good and bad experiences flying with them as a card holder. My understanding of what this company was growing up and how I was treated as customer "back in the day" has changed tremendously since then. The friendly skies, the "on time machine" and "something special in the air" is a far cry from what it was then. They've failed on almost every level of the things they upheld so vigorously during the 80's. "Doing what we do best" isn't what we get nowadays. It's the sign of the times I guess, but honestly such a shame too! You're paying a high premium and having to do most of the work yourself when entering the airport. Staff is simply there to socialize amongst one another & if you have questions or need guidance they seemed more bothered by that, that you've interrupted their conversations. The on board staff is just going through the motions without any type of respectful greeting, personalities are as dull as a butter knife, zero friendliness and lack of appreciation of their passengers. As a valued member, I will continue to hope for the best, but will always be prepared for the unknown and what my experience has been lately versus what my expectations are moving forward with this airline. read more

Flew from RDU to Here and then a few weeks a return trip to RDU. Both trips were on time. The first trip , I had the row all to myself, that was nice. I usually like to sit in row 32,33, or 34. I find that I have a good possibility of having the row to myself. Not always , but it does happen often. Sky Harbor is a very easy airport to get in and out. Terminal 4 is the American Airline hub. I do have to say , the attendances on the flight were not as friendly as Delta's attendances. So much said for that . I do fly American often and also Delta. The gate areas do have a variety of charging stations. Some gates more stations than others. read more

I love American Airlines, at least most of the time. For a minute it seemed like all of my flights were delayed, but that hasn't been the case lately. KNOCK ON WOOD! The staff is always friendly, planes as clean as a plane can be and the legroom pretty adequate. read more

We flew Phoenix to Miami and then on to Barbados on 1/14/26 We had an excellent experience at the PHX desk check-in since we are traveling internationally - she was so kind and friendly getting our bags checked and boarding passes. It was a great start to the day. Boarding was smooth- A321 Neo and the seats up front were comfy and new. Nice bonus. With American tho- you need to bring your own device but you have free access to their app and entertainment so make sure you bring your iPad or something. I focused on podcasts today so download them before they close the doors. Definitely preorder your meal in the app- we did- only one person out of all of first class didn't preorder and he had one choice- take it or leave it, so preorder is the message here. I had a great cold salmon salad on quinoa with roasted red peppers and pickled red onions. Excellent. The side salad was fresh jicama, corn, edamame with a sweet Thai Chili dressing. Nice heat to it! Husband had a honey glazed chicken and enjoyed it, especially the sourdough roll l. We were then served a choice of a fruit and cheese plate or sorbet. Once the trays were cleared, the flight attendant went back to his seat and took a NAP!! lol. Haven't seen that before! Even when someone pressed the call button, he didn't respond. A steward from the back finally arrived and took care taking away some dirty dishes providing drink refills. Yikes. AA 2107 1/14/26 Second flight to Barbados was also a newer 737 max. Seats are really nice and comfortable. As we were late due to staffing issues, on preflight drink, but dinner came within the hour- roasted chicken pesto with potatoes. The picture looks awful but it was TASTY. Very good. Service on this flight was very attentive as well Bonus was the free WiFi if you have an advantage account yay!! Finally! read more

American Airlines is an airline I often chose, especially since they've partnered with British Airways which is my preferred airline in general. Love the ability to buy a cheese plate, though sadly they often do not have on the flights I've been on recently. Just something about cheese at a higher altitude. Overall, a solid airline and great service out of Sky Harbor airport. read more

This airline has gotta be the worst in aspect. They do not care about their customers, or customers luggage. Believe me when I say do not travel with this airline. Their customer service dep is a joke. My bags were delayed 2 days, my flight was canceled, I had missing and damaged items, they did nothing to rectify the horrible experience I encountered with theie airlone. They deserve a big fat 0 when it comes to . Save urseld the hassle book elsewhere. read more

This is clearly based on baggage service. Absolutely awful. With many storms around the country, there have been many many cancellations. Our bags arrived yesterday. We finally got back in Phoenix tonight. The baggage recovery had two people working with a huge line of people waiting. I've waited over an hour with maybe 15 people having been helped. They should have known this would happen and be prepared. Bags are all over the place. They're not being very helpful. There is a huge lack of organization of bags. There should have been systems in place knowing this was going to happen. With TWO agents, the wait is long and unacceptable. They don't care because they know we have not much of a choice. Get it together American!!! read more

I don't remember when I flew any other airline other than Southwest or Hawaiian, so I'll say this may have been my first flight on American Airlines. I was all set for my quick weekend trip to San Diego when a friend suggested I fly in earlier to avoid any mishaps should my original flight experience any delays. The more I thought about it, the more I started to agree. Arrangements were made so that I would arrive on time for my very first UYE in San Diego. I had high hopes but they were not met when I arrived at the airport only to find a hot mess of lines with American Airlines. I was so damn confused I didn't know which line I was supposed to be in. When I saw the kiosks at the far end, I made my way over there to print my boarding pass but just as I got to them, employees closed it off and made everyone line up around and behind the escalators. Ummmm... okay. So we stand in this monstrosity of a line and I low-key started to panic as everyone around me clearly had bags to check in. I didn't. Once I got closer to one of the employees, I asked if I was in the right line since I only needed my boarding pass. She said yes. I finally get to a kiosk armed with my confirmation code that I had memorized, only to be told by the screen that my "check-in window" had closed. SMDH. I then asked another employee which line to go to since the screen told me to "see an agent." The counters were busy af. One line was for "special services" and the other was for all the 1st class, business class, etc. which does not apply to a regular joe like me. She told me to go to the special services line so off I went. I thought it was meant for people who needed assistance like wheelchair service, etc. Anyway, by the time I got to the actual counter, I had spent at least 20 minutes in line. The lady who helped me was nice and booked me on the next flight out. Instead of landing in SAN at 9 am, I landed at 11:26 am, which also caused me to forfeit my original car rental. *sigh* I was given an aisle seat in the very last row so it took forever to get on and off. No snackies or drinks were served (although I'm not sure if they regularly do when there is no turbulence---it was a pretty bumpy ride right before we landed)! As I sat around waiting for my next flight out, I had to re-book another vehicle to ensure I would have one when I arrived. I am a creature of habit, and while I am very grateful for my friend's suggestion, I know I would have made that flight had it been Southwest. Yes, I know I could have checked in online, blah blah blah, but I didn't. I don't have the app either. Also, I prefer the paper boarding pass vs. the electronic version. Had the lines been more organized, I may have made my original flight. Better luck next time (if there IS a next time), I guess?! read more

I fly American all the time, not that I have a choice as every airline these days all feel the same. It used to be that flying was a treat but nowadays its just like taking the bus or subway, just another form of transportation. I have to write about this most recent experience because the whole thing was just fubar and the more I think about it, it only feels worse. I was helping my elderly and disabled mom fly back to the East Coast and I bought her tickets, so I could manage things for her. We come to PHX airport a few hours ahead of time as we needed it as my mom isnt that mobile. We get in line for AA's counter and when we finally get to the front, I asked to have my mom's seat changed from middle to an aisle seat as she has trouble walking. Agent is NOT helpful, rude and starts to raise her voice at me and says no despite the fact I ask her three times and tell her that my mom is elderly and disabled. We even offer to pay for upgrade or first class. Her explanation is that the flight is full. Fast forward, my mom is getting wheeled to the gate by an assistant and I had to escalate my ask this time and asked another agent that I want to speak to a supervisor now. Tom is the supervisor on duty and listens to my grievance and calls over to Louise at the gate. My mom's ticket is ultimately changed from a middle seat to aisle seat. When my mom lands, she calls me to tell me that her flight was at best 80% full. So what the lady agent told us at the PHX AA counter was incorrect information. That made me pretty disappointed in this human as she had no sympathy for an older person who is disabled. The sad state of society now. My mother being legally disabled is protected under the Air Carrier Access Act and airlines must provide accommodation. This is the law. I have called and left a message with my complaint and I have also wrote a written form to explain what happened. I have every intention to make sure those with disabilities get their right protection and treatment. I hate writing one star reviews but I hate even more dealing with illogical, knuckleheads, who have no sympathy and this agent broke the law. What a shame because I plan to make sure this agent learns what this law means. And the airline owes us an apology and whatever else they see fit to compensate us for our time, mental anguish and being disrespected. read more

Bad weather causes delays - I get it !!!! 8+ canceled flight and 6 other unsuccessful flights on the stand-by list. Both bags arrived a day before me along with 500+ bags sitting all around baggage claim and the American baggage service office. I stood in line for two hours and five minutes because there was only two customer service agents working in the baggage service office. Apparently there is no organization to where bags have been placed so they have to manually search all over the baggage claim area and in their closet for your bags. Air Tags are not specific enough to always find your items. At least I could tell they were in the terminal. read more

Our short flight between phoenix and flagstaff az was delayed three times for a total of over three hours. All delays were within the control of the airline. As such, compensation is due. While the delays seriously disrupted our plans, I understood and was content to accept their offer of entry to a premium airport lounge on a future flight. When we attempted to do so on our return flight, we were rather rudely informed that AA did not accept the QR code for the free passes. At that point, I decided to ask for full legal compensation. AA has made it almost impossible to apply for a credit or refund. Their online forms do not permit such a request and their customer service phone numbers have wait times exceeding an hour. I'm a reasonable person but I hate being screwed around and AA has perfected the art of not doing the right thing by paying customers. I'm done with them. read more

American Airlines - Plug at seats 2025 - Airlines Near Me - Phoenix, Arizona

I used to be very loyal to America West Airlines out of Phoenix with a hub at one time in Columbus, Ohio. Then, it was US Airways flying across country, again from Phoenix, and I was getting upgraded regularly. Now, it's American Airlines that I frequent along with past America West Airlines and US Airways patrons. I find that similar to any other airline, customer service is often better than not, but there are always those few hiccups. With American Airlines, you can get someone on the phone, on a chat, on social media, or in person to assist, and with some respect on our part, we can often get what we need. I rarely have luggage issues though there was one time where my bag was broken, and American Airlines gave me a replacement bag while they had my original bag repaired. I find myself regularly flying in and out of the American Airlines gates at Phoenix Sky Harbor and frequenting hubs like Dallas-Fort Worth, Chicago O'Hare, Philadelphia, and Charlotte. Often, my travels require a layover, and my flights are more often than not on time and without delays on departing or arriving. With status, an American Airlines credit card, and membership in CLEAR and Global Entry, I do not pay for luggage, I receive priority luggage handling, I board early, I speed through security, I sometimes receive upgrades, and I access lounges. Traveling has become more of a hobby and habit at the same time, and using American Airlines as my regular go-to airlines, I accumulate miles quickly while also receiving status and Loyalty Point rewards. I have two travel premium credit cards: the AAdvantage Executive Mastercard offering complimentary Admirals Club access and the American Express Platinum card offering other lounge access along with travel credits along with complimentary CLEAR and Global Entry membership. Through T-Mobile, I receive free WiFi on American Airline flights. Through my American Airlines AAdvantage status, I get upgrades or free paid snacks and drinks on flights along with other benefits. To retain status each year, you need to earn Loyalty Point through flying, credit card spending, and promotions. You also can earn Loyalty point rewards after hitting 175,000 points, 250,000 points, and so on. While it is difficult to receive upgrades due to so many people at the Executive Platinum status tier, the benefits I do receive is worthwhile. I also have experienced technical issues on flights but not enough to cause me to abandon American Airlines, especially when every other airline has these same challenges. All in all, American Airlines is a great company and does as well if not better than any of the other major airlines. read more

In all of my years traveling, the treatment that we received from this airline and specifically that of the Phoenix Airport was absolutely awful. This airline was responsible for me missing my last flight of a 3 flight trip back home to California from Germany. We had made it on time despite our flight from London being delayed. We ran as fast as we could through every checkpoint, and we were sent and forced to print a new ticket for my friend, despite the worker verifying that there was nothing wrong with the ticket. Despite this major inconvenience after an already delayed arrival, we made it to the gate just 5 minutes before the plane was set to take off and the worker refused to let us pass despite the plane still being in the gate. When going to customer service, we were told there were no more flights for the day and that we were expected to pay for our own hotel and other expenses until departure the next morning. This airline was not accommodating whatsoever and they even gave us a hard time about refunding the flight that they caused us to miss. Thankfully after calling our bank, the airline negotiated a refund with our bank instead of simply giving us a refund when we first requested. We ultimately ended up spending an extra 500 to book a last minute ticket with another airline and we will still have to drive an hour in order to pick up our bags from a different airline when we land. This has been an extremely stressful and inconvenient experience, so if you are planning a trip with this airline, I would highly NOT recommend it! They do not care at all about their passengers or their belongings. read more

Phoenix is one of American's main hubs. I have taken a couple flights on American from Phoenix and found the experience to be just alright. My most recent flight was a connecting flight on American after arriving on a flight from Seattle on Alaska Airlines. This was not ideal as it required changing terminals and clearing security again in Phoenix, not to mention taking the PHX Sky Train. It is not ideal, especially if you have a tight connection. It would be better if Alaska and American could fly out of the same terminal or if there was a way to change terminals without going through security another time. The gate waiting areas are pretty average. Not good, but not horrible. Flying American is okay if you are on a jet, but I do not care for their flights on regional planes which are very small and old. read more

We took a flight to Phoenix from Detroit metro. We were to leave at 6:30 am but the night before leaving we get a text it will be an hour later Now leaving at 7:30am. We arrive and get on the plane and sit on the tarmac to be deiced. Now that really is a good thing that we are cared for. Now we are leaving even later. The crew were pleasant and friendly. I thought the captain telling us items were appropriate and precise. When arriving in Phoenix, there was a disabled plane at our gate. And we needed to wait and find a new gate to disembark, adding more time. In the scheme of life these are only first world issues. I will continue to fly American Airlines but will not line up a pickup at the airport in advance. read more

When they bailed out the Airlines, they had no realization that a business that is run as poorly as this one could ever exist. The fact that billions of dollars have been spent on airports around the country to support the ineptness one finds every time you try to use American's "service", makes you realize that they are just milking the system at our expense. Delays, non-existent customer service, selling insurance that won't pay off, a bag of pretzels on a six hour flight, missing stuff from the luggage..... but I digress. Even Frontier is better than American, and that speaks volumes. read more

If I could give American Airlines zero stars, I would. I've been an advantage member for almost 40 years. Flew them exclusively for business, have their credit card, etc. For my 60th birthday and Father's Day, my wife bought us first class tickets to visit our son's family in San Antonio. He's our third son in the Navy. Very proud of all 3. Anyways, today was sadly our return flight to Burbank. We flew from San Antonio to Phoenix, and our connecting flight was due to leave at 4:32 pm local time, from another terminal approximately 1-mile away (5 moving sidewalks). We arrived at the connecting gate at 4:35 and the doors were closed. 5 others, including a handicapped man, had the same connecting flights and arrived at the gate to the Burbank flight shortly after us to find ourselves all denied access, and my wife and I were running. When the gate agent returned to the gate, she told us we just missed it and unfortunately there was nothing she could do to help us. She said that they were aware that we were coming in on that SAT flight and that she called for a cart to pick us up. No cart was sent for us or the poor handicapped gentleman. She said that we would need to go to another terminal for customer service because the one at the next gate was closed. When we arrived at the customer service window, there were 12 people ahead of us and 1 agent. There are no more flights into Burbank tonight. So we had a choice between waiting until tomorrow or flying to LAX. No available first class seats or aisle seats only middle or window. Instead of making it home at 6pm, we are due to arrive at another airport further from home, no first class, 4th boarding group, no aisle seat, and 10 pm arrival. I have to be at work at 6am tomorrow. American Airlines has done this to me before a couple of times. I guess it's my fault for giving them multiple chances. No more. I'm canceling my credit card and will never fly American again. They just lost a 4 decade loyal customer. But, they don't care, no skin off their noses. The customer service agent told me that they're trying to replace human customer service with an automated system. I tried to use their automated system. It asks questions, but doesn't understand clearly spoken English, so, with all of the grief they've subjected us to, it's time to move on after all of my years flying with them - sad to say. A once great airline that took good care of customers is now too big to care about those who have loyally supported them for so long. So long AA! Forgot to add that our luggage still went to Burbank, even though we're waiting for a flight to Los Angeles, now. Thanks for nothing American Airlines. read more

Why flying people to Phoenix then goes back to Las Vegas. Poorly designed flights schedule. Also when they design flights with connections don't make it too close, when flight arrives late like ours people will miss their connection flights and had to rebook, that's what happens to many people on our flight. It is unfortunate but luckily my next connection flight is like two and half hours later. Still same day arrival. No food voucher was given for their mistakes. Up to two hours before our flight, American sent us text messages claiming that our flight to the east coast was on time: we checked in, checked our bags for our destination, and were told that our flight was operating on time (the aircraft we were taking was coming from our destination, 6 hours away). Three hours became four, then five. See a problem here? The aircraft was coming from our destination, six hours away. There is no possibility that American didn't know of our flight's delay when we were sent text messages that our flight was on-time at 7;00 AM -- and every half-hour after that. The truth of the matter is that our flight didn't leave from our destination until shortly before noon Phoenix time, and unless American began flying the retired Concorde, we were given bad information. When we got to our destination, our bags didn't arrive on our flight: American had no idea where they were. We had to purchase business clothing for our meetings the next three days -- a mad rush that caused every meeting to be delayed hours -- in a very busy week. This wasn't T-shirts and underwear we had to buy: for me, it was suits and shirts, ties, belts, everything; for her... dresses, shoes, undergarments, coats, makeup, etc, etc... all rushed for tailoring the day after our arrival. Some of our appointments had been made months ago and simply couldn't be rescheduled. Could we leave a few days earlier? Or just fly on a better airline? Our bags arrived three days after we did. They didn't leave Phoenix on our flight -- confirmed by our Apple AirTags. No one at American can say why, or explain why our suitcases reported as lost weren't put on an aircraft the day after our flight: they left Phoenix 3 days after we did. read more
