I think I'm just spoiled by the Asian bakeries in nyc but I wasn't a huge fan of this spot. We came around 8:15 am and the shop was still taking out some pastries and items for the day. It smelled scrumptious and there were plenty of pastry selections from buns and muffins to cakes and cookies. They have a lot of Matcha-forward pastry items, which was nice to see. I ordered a classic Latte with a Chocolate Croissant and a Matcha Muffin. The matcha taste in the muffin tasted artificial imo, which ruined the experience. The chocolate croissant and Latte were pretty standard. I also tried the Matcha Bun and Matcha Eclair from my brother and they were sweeter than I'd like. Staff was overall friendly and spoke minimal English. There were still a good amt of customers coming in and out, so it still gets good foot traffic despite my opinion of the taste. I really liked this bakery! If this was where I lived I would go so often (I already do for the other Asian bakeries I really like). I'm glad I went here while on vacation. My favorite items was the black sesame melon pan and matcha tiramisu. I went close to Halloween so the black sesame had eyes and it just really looked cure! I love black sesame and I liked how strong the flavor was. The matcha cream was a really nice touch to it too and enhanced the black sesame flavor. The matcha tiramisu had a lot of matcha on top! It paired super well with the cream. I definitely want to try making my own if I can. I only got a small bit of the cocoa melonpan but it was also really good! It had a chocolate filling in the middle. The bakery had a lot of bakery items on display so you'll definitely find at least one thing you like! A Japanese bakery that my nephew studying abroad frequented, the Aki Boulanger is one of three 'Aki' food establishments on a corner close to the palace in Paris (the others being a mochi place and a French style cafe). The bakery serves up Japanese classics like milk bread and castella. Their version of the strawberry cake (Gateau Fraise, 5,9€ each) was the perfect size (3 - 4 bites) and had the requisite super light whipped cream and very fluffy sponge. This is a Japanese inspired French bakery around a 10-15 minute walk from the Louvre. We were so excited to have so many Japanese options in Paris! The cafe also offers reasonably priced ready to go meals, such as katsu curry, bento boxes, and sandwiches. One of their popular items is the Matcha Melon Pain, which is a matcha bun with cream inside. It was so soft and delicious! Wish I ordered more pastries! The matcha latte is also very good. I came to Aki's to buy breakfast when I was visiting Paris and really enjoyed their Japanese and fusion baked goods, especially the latter. I found their fusion items to be really unique like the kinako twisted donut, black sesame cookie, black sesame flan and mochi beignets. You could really taste the mochi filling in the beignets (they were honestly more like croquettes than actual beignets) and they were generously stuffed with different filling flavors like matcha and red bean. As someone who likes black sesame, I liked that they had so many black sesame options among their many pastries. Unfortunately, the way you order pastries is that an employee at the counter will pull the pastries you want from the counter display and works your way down like an assembly line. It was very crowded when I went and since I don't live in Paris to come to this bakery often, I wanted to take my time reading through all the options (especially since I don't know how to read French and needed to ask for translating a lot) but I felt the employee was rushing me to pick which pastries I wanted to buy. Also, the way they pack the pastries is they just stuff them into paper bags and throw them into a plastic bag that they charge you extra for. If I had enough money (and patience), I would catch a train to Paris every day just for this bakery. I had researched this company for a project I did for my class a while back, and had been determined to try it. However, my first attempt was unsuccessful, because I hadn't done my research and didn't know they were closed on Sundays. I went back a second time and got TWO cakes as a sort of revenge (for myself) and I wish I could have gotten more. The prices are average for a high-quality bakery in Paris, and just like most places, they up-charge if you want to eat in. I got the Yuzu Mille Crepe (4,80 take out or 5,30 eat in) and the Mont Blanc (5,50 take out or 6 eat in) . I am a die-hard fan of Mont Blancs, and I. was. absolutely. blown. a. WAYYY. The cream was the perfect softness, the inside was filled with a slightly sweetened whipped cream, and the center contained a generous clump of chestnut cream. The bottom, unlike traditional mont blancs, was a sponge cake. The Yuzu Mille Crepe was phenomenal as well. The crepe itself was soft, thin, supple, and the perfect thickness to soak up just a little bit of the yuzu cream hidden between each layer. The bottom layer was a yuzu sponge cake with little bits of yuzu inside, which gave it an extra oomph. Both cakes were superb, and I really doubt I will find anything else during my time in France as good as these cakes. I can't wait to come back and try more!! & a lil irrelevant side note, I love that most of the workers here are Japanese! Stopped by for a quick breakfast. I got several pastries and two lattes for myself and a friend. I made the mistake of ordering to-go and our other friend wanted to sit down and eat so she ordered her items for here. They were extremely strict about this so we ended up having to tell them that we would not eat or drink our items. They were all really tasty although more filling and less rice on the Onigiri would have been great. The matcha crème brûlée was excellent. Right in the heart of Japantown/Little Tokyo, Aki Boulanger often has a line outside the door. You can choose to eat in or eat out, they have a window counter space as well as tables outside. Regrettably I didn't get a chance to try the packaged meals, even though everything looked amazing. Pastries on the other hand did all taste great, with especially strong authentic matcha flavors. I have always been a fan of Asian/French fusion bakeries the most, being raised on these types of places where I grew up. I did not buy any of the savory bento foods or sushi-ritto, but enjoyed trying 3 or 4 bun type treats that I truly enjoyed. The prices are different based on whether you eat in or eat out. They are very strict about this!! They are the sister bakery of Aki across the street so they even have prepackaged lunches like katsu dons and other Japanese foods. They have limited seating outside but two floors of seating inside. My favorite treats are the matcha ice latte, matcha tiramisu, matcha cream cake (best best best), matcha cream puff. My friend and I came here just for coffee and dessert, but their bento boxes looked so good that we ended up canceling our lunch reservations to eat here! We tried the katsu sandwiches as well as the donkatsu box - everything was so yummy that we contemplated coming back the next day. Decided to drop by to pick up something matcha flavored after many friends' recommendations. I got a matcha eclair while my friend got the kabuki, the green tea opéra. The eclair was very delicious, with just the right amount of filling that was not too sweet. As for the kabuki, my friend kept saying "fluffy" and "luxurious" between bites. Service is uncharacteristically good here, in a city full of boulangeries where getting a smile can take months of conversation and visits. This is my first yelp review ever, so here goes... On our way to the Louvre this morning around 10:30am, my boyfriend and I decided that we should probably get a snack before getting to the Louvre. We stumbled upon Aki and was drawn in by the displays of different pastries and bread. The area surrounding this bakery seemed like we may have stumbled upon a mini JTown in Paris. The ladies working there seemed to all be Japanese and spoke Japanese and French. I used my broken French to see if they spoke some English and the lady that was helping us said she could speak a little. With the language barrier, she was still patient enough to help us as we ordered a bunch of snacks. We ordered two hot dog beignets, a Matcha cookie, a slice of berry cheesecake, and a Matcha au lait. Hot dog beignet - It was crunchy on the outside and had curry flavor in the breading. The curry wasn't too overpowering which was good but I had expected it to be warm, but it was cold. I didn't fancy it too much. Matcha cookie - I LOVE Matcha and the cookie hit the spot. I was worried because I initially broke off a piece and it felt like it could have been a hard cookie but biting into it... it had just the right amount of chewiness. There was a good amount of matcha flavoring so I could definitely taste it. Berry cheesecake - The texture was definitely a little fluffier and less smooth. It felt a little healthier to me and not so much cream cheese tasting as I am used to. It almost tasted a little milkier more than cheesy and the berries were plentiful. However, it did not taste like the cheesecakes I am used to. Matcha au lait - This was delicious. Just the right amount of Matcha and milkiness and sweetness to gulp down. Overall, I think they were on point with the Matcha flavored drink and cookie. However, the beignet and cheesecake were nothing to drool over. read more

Aki alone makes me wish I lived in Paris. What's better than a French bakery? A Japanese-French bakery! Oh my goodness...heaven. They have such a wide array of unique sandwiches and pastries that one would never get tired of eating here. On the left you have a small selection of casual pastries. These include raisin buns and some Japanese-inspired goods like green tea matcha buns with red bean filling. There is a cold-food section that has white bread sandwiches and other takeaway items. In the case you will find cool desserts such as green tea tiramisu and blueberry Japanese cheesecakes. They look so simple yet so good! They also have fresh onigiri with more interesting flavors than I have ever encountered in my life. I got one with some sort of stewed pork...it was fantastic. The sandwiches appealed to me the most. Instead of the typical baguettes, you have baguettes with chicken karaage, tonkatsu, gyoza (dumplings! odd sandwich filling), and even yakisoba (noodles! noodles in a sandwich!). I wish I remembered more but hopefully this will just make you want to take a trip of your own here! Best part about Aki is that it is reasonably priced so you don't feel like you are splurging for some sort of "experience". Even their coffee is good and cheaper than other cafes. 3.5 stars - during my two months of study abroad in Paris, I made numerous trips to Aki for lunch. At first I loved it (as a huge fan of matcha), but as I had the chance to experience more and more boulangeries and pâtisseries (Sadaharu Aoki in particular), Aki fell down the priority list a bit. It's definitely good, but a bit overrated in my opinion. I tried: Melon pain (2.20 - 2.80€): My favorite item from Aki, and I don't know of any other boulanger in Paris who makes it, which is really a shame. They are small round buns, lightly sweetened with a brioche-like consistency on the inside, but a bit fluffier, less dense and buttery. The top is my favorite part, crunchy and reminiscent of a cookie. I think I tried pretty much all of the flavors, and the matcha (with white chocolate chunks) and strawberry were my favorites. Perfect amount of sweetness, terrific texture. Matcha cookie (2.50€): green tea cookie with white chocolate chunks, very straightforward. Great flavor combination, the sweet white chocolate went very well with the bitter matcha, which is very pronounced. They definitely aim for crispy/crumbly cookies rather than soft, chewy ones, but are generally very good. Aki-Brest (3.70€): open-faced pâte à choux (éclair-type puff pastry) split lengthwise with a red bean mousseline piped inside, dusted in matcha powder. I had this a few times and liked it at first, but on later tries I wasn't a fan of the choux pastry, which was a bit dry, with the consistency of having absorbed too much air. The red bean mousseline tastes great and is the perfect level of sweetness, but I found the texture a bit too greasy, the kind that leaves an unpleasant feeling on your lips and tongue after you eat it. Yuzu & Matcha éclairs (3.20€): Really liked the yuzu, which was just tart enough, but I thought the matcha flavor wasn't very pronounced in the matcha crème. As opposed to the Aki-Brest, the choux pastry in their eclairs was consistently good, just a tiny bit crunchy without being at all soggy or doughy, really appreciate the restraint in using sugar. In the end, still a very good choice, and I'm rounding up for the incredibly kind, efficient, and courteous service (without exception!) read more

On my last trip to Paris I stopped by here to try it out and had what, to this day, is the best beignet variation I've ever had. Perfectly light and fluffy with a nice sugary coating on the outside and a well proportioned filling of apple - I haven't had anything quite comparable since in the states. (And believe me, I've looked.) Came back first thing in the morning (right when they opened) before I had to catch a plane, but regrettably they had not made any yet. I'll be back on of these days, and I'll be sure to try some of the other delicious looking items they produce here as well. read more

This was my favorite place to get pastries in Paris, but the owner is incredibly hostile and rude. My husband and I went here for our honeymoon and loved their cream puffs so much that we made a day trip there 2 years later from London just to get the cream puffs again. We stopped in to get a few with our two year old daughter and took her to Palais-Royal. We returned about an hour later to get more treats for the train ride back and while we waited for our Uber, we let our daughter sit down for a few minutes. The owner came out and started berating me because of the no tax for to go orders. Ok, we get it! We're stupid Americans and we forgot. My husband and I came here Friday July 3, 2015. We came early and sat outside while we waited for our driver to take us to the train station to head to Amsterdam. We got a great seat out front and I ordered a Cafe crema and a blueberry muffin. I asked for the girl to heat it and she did. It was incredibly delicious and so was the coffee, nice and strong.
