Of course, bakeries are everywhere! But this one was probably my favorite out of all the other bakeries we went to while visiting Paris. It doesn't hurt that they all look so pretty. very pretty. you almost don't want to eat it. Sometimes, pretty pastries don't always taste as good as it looks. Not the pastries from Gosselin. It is pricier than other mom and pop bakeries you'll see while walking around Paris but it is worth it. It's a walking distance from Musee d'Orsay so stop by before going to the museum and have you a eclair or a flan. YUM!

This very nice boulangerie-pâtisserie is located on a busy corner, directly across the street from the Solferino Metro station. It's several blocks away from the Orsay Museum. They sell lots of breads, croissants, eclairs, chocolates, and many other decadent French treats. During my visit many Parisians were purchasing loafs of bread, so I sort of went against the grain when I purchased my French sampling of croissant, pain au chocolat, and vanilla eclair. But I'm glad I purchased those items because all three of them were excellent. They were dynamite! The inside was a little hectic and busy when I visited but I think that's because a lot of customers were regulars and they were just in a hurry to get home and cook dinner (it was around dinner time, hence all the bread purchases). The people working behind the counter were friendly, polite, and I experienced no problems with my English.

I don't usually like the color pink, but the color is all over Paris. From here to Printemps department store & I love it now.

I don't give 5 stars often, and I think this might be my only 2nd 5 star review of a Paris locale, but I have a huge sweet tooth and we bought 4 pastries and I ate them all in one sitting. Oh my goodness, I spotted the shop as we were approaching the Musee d'Orsay and I felt how Dorothy felt when she saw the City of Oz for the first time. It was awe inspiring. My mouth opened and even now my tongue is salivating at the thought. I hate myself for not taking photos of the window front. It was so gorgeous and magical, the sweets I saw in the window and the throng of girls in the front. I am not a fan of macaroons, but of the other sweets that you rarely can find in the States. The closest you can get is Madeliene or Whole Foods. Anyhow, after our visit to Musee d'Orsay, I dragged my son and husband in there and they packaged our sweets in the most beautiful pink box. I carried it on the Metro as if it was a priceless heirloom, All the women were staring at it. Then at home we devoured every last scrumptious crumb. I even saved the wrapping paper and tissue paper to put in my Paris scrapbook...

macaron framboise...OK, a bit dry, unmemorable

Gosselin is the stereotypical "A-OK" boulangerie, offering a huge array of products at reasonable prices, where nothing is really bad but at the same time nothing is exceptional. Their baguette tradition is quite good, with a tasty, crunchy crust and just-dense-enough, yeasty interior. Definitely ask for it bien cuite, the one less-cooked baguette I had wasn't very good. The pâtisseries are okay - they are plentiful in variety and wonderful in appearance but generally unexceptional in taste. I had a merveilleux chocolat, a large macaron framboise, and an éclair café which were all fine, pretty much average for Paris. But come on, if you're here in the 7th, you have Rue du Bac on your doorstep, and that means pastry row with Jacques Genin, Des Gateaux et Du Pain, Pâtisserie des Rêves, and more...there are better places for bread, viennoiseries, and pastries a stone's throw away!

I eat about half of it there on the stand up tables (if they're available.) Ok,,, it's one of those no frills joint that I like so much. You walk in, you bark your order to the cashier. She sets you up with your sandwich and tells you how much it is. You reach in your pocket, you pay her, she give you change and you're out the door. On to the next one. The sandwiches they serve here is pretty good. Salmon, ham, cheese, greens, tomatoes, onions, etc. Those are all pretty much created equal,,, what really makes the difference here is the bread. They make their own bread here,,, yes,,, own bread,,, from scratch. Flour, water, yeast, etc... all that good stuff. All that and a lot of love to create the perfect light and crispy on the outside and mouthwateringly chewy and tasty baguette you've ever put in your basic mouth. Anyways, the simple things are what I love,,, and Le Fournil Du Maine is what I call my regular joint. Thank you so much for making amazing sandwiches,, I'll see you again next time I'm in town. While…read morethe Cafe de la Place is fairly boring and expensive (typical tourist trap brasserie) this small vendor is a treasure. The owner/chef is very proud of his operation and prepares crepes and sandwiches before your eyes as you wait with a selection of very fresh ingredients. If you want avocado and fig in your sandwich, well, he will cut them up for you from a whole fruit! Maybe don't try to change your order too much because the chef has a very clear idea about what ingredients go well together :) The crepes are quite traditional in terms of the selection of toppings of ham, cured ham, cheese, mushrooms, and egg... But they do not fail to please the taste-buds. The sandwiches are more exotic with choices like fresh mozzarella di buffala and roquette/arugula and on a fresh baguette they are delicious and filling. Crepes are from 3.5-6.5 euros and sandwiches are 5-7 euros so its a great deal if you feel like avoiding the cantine or a McDonald's...or like avoiding to pay 6 euros for a Coca Cola in the Cafe de la Place next door (how much would a sandwich cost???). However, the cafe (if they are not too busy) will probably let you eat a crepe/sandwich at one of their outdoor tables if you buy a drink from them (but be warned, the crepe might be the cheaper portion of your meal...) Bring cash and enjoy one of the best crepe stands in Paris!
