My review scale here in France I feel is so off. It's like almost every place I get pastries and sweets from are fantastic. How do I gauge what's great vs average here?? Or maybe I was just lucky. Anyways I found Drops here as well so I ended up getting one of those. I also got a croque monsieur, a croissant and a citron pastry(?). I think I'll need to just refer to everything here as a pastry because I don't know how to classify them. Anyways everything was so good. Their croissant was very different than the first place that I went to. The one here had a super crisp to the outside. As for their citron pastry, it was one of those fancy looking desserts essentially. It was also a citrus bomb and wasn't overly sweet. The croque monsieur was a tad over done, but that's to be expected when it comes essentially pre made then reheated. There was a long line forming when I first got there but it moved so fast . It was so fast to the point where I didn't feel comfortable asking questions to trying to check the whole display. The line basically wraps around a rounded display counter so you can't see everything at the same time. I was at the start of the counter when someone came to take my order so I didn't get a good chance to see much before I ordered. The line was also moving so fast that I couldn't really slow things down to get a good look before I had ordered. Keep that in mind if you come. It wasn't until I got to the register when I saw the croissants and drops again. Luckily they let me add them just before paying. Sandwiches and pastries... what's not to love? We stopped here for a quick lunch after a morning at the Musée D'Orsay. It was walking distance and was easy to find by walking straight down the street that runs perpendicular to the Seine and in front of the D'Orsay. We split a ham and cheese sandwich and a fantastic pistachio eclair. I think that may be a seasonal flavor. If so, it's worth visiting during the season just to get one. The prices seemed reasonable and the staff spoke English. There's really no place to sit, so we took it to go and ate on the steps in front of the museum, watching birds and people. I'd definitely have gone back if we were staying longer. read more

Love, love this place! Good luck figuring out what to purchase as there are so many wonderful options. We wanted a light lunch so we split a ham/butter/emmental baguette sandwich. It was fantastic. Why did we split one? So we could share a pistachio eclair, of course. That eclair was one of those vacation decisions that turns out to be a double-edged sword. It's so perfect and amazing it ruins you for all other desserts in every other place you'll ever go. You're happy you experienced it but devastated knowing the odds you'll ever be back are slim. I considered grabbing my husband's half and running but he's far faster than me. You can usually find a worker who speaks English if your French is a little shaky, and they are very nice here. TLDR: Another awesome bakery in Paris! ______ While in Paris we stopped in a bakery every morning for a quick bite to go. This was day 3. Croissant - flaky not too buttery. It had a little chew to it...it was good, but not my favorite. Trust me, I had A LOT of croissants in Paris! Croque monsieur - this is a baked ham and cheese sandwich. what a large serving. This was delicious. They warmed it up and the cheese became gooey. The ham was thinly sliced and the entire combinations of flavor were excellent. Twist - I pointed at the almond croissant but they accidentally gave me a sweet twist. Didn't realize it till blocks later when I opened the bag...all good, a pleasant surprise. This was really good! I can't recommend this place enough! We came here twice when we spent time in Paris. Definitely try the pastries, we had several. My favourite was the cheesecake, it was so smooth! They also have wonderful lunch options here. We had the vegetable soup, some quiches, and some bread. It was so filling and delicious! The staff and owner here are also super lovely and it's not expensive at all. Seriously, go here if you are nearby! read more

Gosselin is the perfect place to go whether you're craving for baguettes or something sweeter (like the hand-sized macaroons). We stopped by this place while waiting to check out the Louvre and were glad that we avoided the tourist traps around the amazing museum. I know, I know, I have said similar things about Julien, but I have to admit about Phillipe Gosselin - just wow. With butter - crunchy, soft, flavorful...sigh... Toast it for a little more bite. I'm not changing my feeling about Julien, it was my first love, but still, Gosselin bread is incredible. These two bakeries (Gosselin and Julien) are located only about 2 blocks apart so you're never far from bread, quiche, desert, sandwich goodness - they both have it all! I love Gosselin. Every time I come to Paris I try to make it a point to come to Gosselin. There are several locations scattered throughout Paris but this was a new location for me. We were waiting for our wine and cheese at O Chateau so we walked down the street to stock up on chocolate almond croissants: MY FAVORITE!! They are both a bakery and a patisserie with fantastic pastries as well. Highlights are definitely the croissants, baguettes and the eclairs... what we always get. Our order goes something like this: 2 pistachio eclairs, 2 baguettes and 4 chocolate almond croissants. Generally our order is less than 20 euros. Again, love love love this place. The people are always friendly and helpful. For things like croissants, you'll need to get these at the beginning of the day (they only make a certain number) and then in the afternoon you stick with the pastries. Breads are always better in the morning. Baguettes (in general and not specific to Gosselin) are only good for about 4-5 hours so in the evening they are on their last legs. If there's a bakery/patisserie you're going to visit, this is the one. Love them. read more

Is it just me or are desserts in France just the right amount of sweetness? This small cafe has a number of delicious pastries. Some you can buy by the slice, others you'll need to buy the entire cake. Two of the pastries we got here were very good, with fluffy buttery crusts. Unfortunately I don't know any French so I just pointed, don't know the name of the desserts. We got it to go, as there are no seats. Our walk from the Louvre to Hotel de Ville on rue St Honoré contained a never ending supply of bakeries and pastry shops. Gosselin was our last stop, and probably the most delightful. As you can see in the photos, the variety here is just doesn't stop. A lot of the items are fruit based, which is great once you see how many ways a raspberry can be implemented in a creation. I wanted to try everything, but my wallet and stomach had a limit. My favorite was the mille feuille with pistache & pramboise (pistachio & raspberry Napoleon). The mix of the two flavors is phenomenal and gives the entire pastry a silky smooth and not too sweet texture. It is just heaven biting through it. I really can't put into words what it tastes like, but hopefully the photo will give you some idea of just how fabulous it was. read more

I asked for samples, or "tastes," and when I got my second one, she said, "C'est tout!" :D So different from US where they give you endless samples. Anyways, we got the frambois gelato. Stopped at this location for a quick lunch after walking around the Louvre. Located on an easy to find street corner, the Gosselin was a small, but wide open bakery for sweet and savory treats. All of their tasty treats are on display to choose from. I ordered a sandwich (jambon du pays) and a tarte aux frambois. The baguette for the sandwich was delightful--so soft and crusty! Very delicious pickles on the sandwich and the creamy spread was so delicious. The tarte was baked to perfection and the raspberries on top were some of the best I had in Paris. Definitely made me want to try other Gosselin chain locations, but there were just way too many tasty bakeries to choose from!! read more

I was passing by and the lure of freshly made macarons brought me inside. I haven't tasted any macarons before and was curious to try! A lovely resident (she's from Iowa studying at the university) helped me out and suggested a few flavors. Oh, I am so glad I listened to her. I picked up a 5 piece assortment to nibble on later. When I did, it was love at first bite! It was a bit sweet but the texture and flavor was amazing. I'm sure that there are more amazing places that reknowned for their macarons but I am very grateful to Gosselin Philippe for introducing them to me! read more

Everything made here is divine!

I went to 3 bakeries in Paris and I have to say this was the best out of all of them. The poulet crudités here was my absolute favorite! We tried it at all the bakeries and there was no comparison. The croissants were very soft and flaky, but I wasn't a fan of the macaroons here. Also, the spinach and cheese tart were amazing! In all, I definitely recommend this place! As far as language barrier, there was one person who was able to speak English so it wasn't hard to order. Definitely stop here if you're dropping by near the louvre! read more

I work in the street (Rue saint-honoré) and come here a lot. Staff is randomly either welcoming or not. Bakeries asides; They have many sandwishes, some soups, and salads. Soups taste really bad sometimes. Bread used for sandwishes are hardly fresh. Their Baguette is too thin. Tradition isn't much better compared to other boulangeries. Globally bread are far from delicious. La crême de la crême is today, my friend went to buy tabbouleh and found moldy spot on it... The staff only gave her another one when she came back with it. No refund, no commercial gesture... I'll never come here again. They are many good boulangeries, this one really lack professionalism. read more

We were staying in this neighborhood on our vacation in Paris and ended up visiting this place every day, on a few days more than once. This is the best bread in the world as noted by Peter Reinhart, f Poilane and the American snit that owns Poilane. THIS is the real deal, made by real Parisians. Seriously, this IS the best baguette and the best bread in the entire world, and I love bread. There are people on The Fresh Loaf (bread baking afficiando site) that travel to Paris just to get THIS BREAD! I want to go back to Paris NOW, and get this baguette! Grabbed some sandwiches and a salad for lunch. Salad had chicken, lentils, green beans, cous cous, tomatoes, artichoke, and lettuce in it. The green beans were really overcooked (or canned?), the chicken was dry, the tomatoes were nice and sweet, and the cous cous was good. Mixed together with dressing the components actually worked together fine. And since it was only about 5 euro (compared to all the other expensive food in 1er area) I think it was fine. Ham and butter sandwich-really good. Ham and butter worked well on the perfectly fresh baked baguette. Approx. 4 euro. Avocado and chicken sandwich- Also with mayo, lettuce, tomato, and hard boiled egg. Again the baguette was very good, but the sandwich was a little bland. Approx. 5 euro. Can't speak for any of the desserts but I would say a good place to have a plain baguette if you like to eat them that way. Otherwise, try one with ham. read more
