After eating at several Argentinian restaurants recently, I've been on a chimichurri kick. I have…read moretried chimichurri sauces from Whole Foods and Trader Joe's but they aren't really very authentic. A friend recommended seeing what El Gaucho might have, so I visited the next day. The market is easy to spot with a big street sign out front. There are only two parking spots in front, one is a handicapped space. There's plenty of parking around the back though. When you walk in, you will see the main market with lots of items and brands I've never seen before. Slightly to the right is their deli counter with lots of meats, cheeses, and other miscellaneous items. To the right of the entrance is a dining area, and another counter where you can order sandwiches, empanadas, pizza, French fries, and drinks. I was laser focused on getting the chimichurri and leaving since I was short on time. It is in plastic bottles in plain view on on top of the deli counter. I purchased the regular variety, but they also have a spicy version. I could already tell this was going to be way better than the other two sauces I tried. I've had it on a steak, and on my breakfast scrambled eggs, and it's in a whole different league from the grocery versions I tried. It looks just like a restaurant chimichurri, oil based with lots of herbs and spices. I just had a nice filet mignon with chimichurri at a good Argentinan restaurant last week, and this chimichurri is about 90% as good. I moved it from the plastic bottle it comes in to a glass jar which will hopefully help preserve it longer, and store it in the refrigerator. I now have no reason to look elsewhere for chimichurri. My friend visits here periodically and says the sandwiches are excellent. I'll have to return again to try one, get more chimichurri, and explore the market and deli to see what other goodies they have.

This morning I was about to be pick up a can of Yerba Mate. I thought why not go to a restaurant…read morethat serves it. This restaurant was the first option that came up on Yelp. Glad I skipped the can to try the real deal. The cashier offered two different options for the iced Yerba Mate. Regular and Mango. Mango was my choice and it was great! Way better than the can. Empanadas were delicious and filling I chose 3 spicy beef, chicken and the Arab. All were very good. I was full after the second but still devoured the third. Clean spot grab and go or chill and enjoy your meal. I'll definitely be back.

Most empanadas are way too thick so the meat ratio on these are amazing. I tried the chicken empanadas Inside: carrot / golden raisin / peas / diced potatoes / cabbage / chicken breast You appreciate the overall taste because they don't oversalt or over season the chicken which helps the golden raisins peas and carrots shine like they should. My tops were the Zaatar and the cheese bread. I imagine it's hard to go wrong, however. Some of the dishes were a bit spicy for me, but it was nothing a splash of the provided lemon slice and the great pickles couldnt cut through. Overall, loved it and would come back. Ah and we ended our meal with some incredibly fresh tasting baklava for about a dollar a piece. No skimping on nuts either! Loved this and cant wait to come back!

They're almost 5 dollars a piece but it's so worth it. They only sell them on Sundays and it's cash only. They take the orders and are pretty quick about getting them out. I ate them both while my friend and I were sitting there eating and talking. There are about four tables with chairs there near the front of the shop. Inside, they've got pan dulce, drinks, and the salteñas (chicken or beef). I always get the beef, I haven't tried the chicken so I can't comment about that. It's like a Bolivian hand pie or turnover, the crust outside is sweet and the inside is full of beef, eggs, potatoes, and broth. It's so tasty and very filling.
