Mixed vegetables curry/ rice/ naan and of course Cab
Paul V.

I have been here few times during lunch buffet which was shutdown during Covid-19's. This time for late dinner. Menu items are customary for most upscale dinner menus. Lots of vegetarian dishes with other non vegetarian items. It's more pricey but service and ambiance is what you generally pay and enjoy while having quite dinner with light Indian classical music being piped in. Since I am familiar with some tunes they had same song was played over and over. Since I was by myself I had time to listen as well had opportunity to observe that. I did mentioned to waitress about it but she didn't notice it ... being busy making sure that patrons are taken care of. My curry was spicy as ordered snd rice was Basmati which is more soft and less chewy then Chinese rice... if you want to impress someone or have important guests who would like to try authentic curries this is the place.

Have dined here multiple timesand this is one of the upscale Indian dining spots in Central NJ area. It's hard to name something that's not good here. Let me name a few of my favorites and then get into others . Was introduced to Akbar by family in NJ. Tandoori Paneer sizzler, Lamb chops , Chicken chops ,Mughalai corn came highly recommended. Loved all of it . Meat was extremely tender, perfectly marinated and grilled in the tandoor making it a treat to feast. New finds in the appetizers are Chicken Hazarvi, Paneer pepper Chicken and Hara Bara kabab. It's hard to find any flaw in their appetizers. We have tried quite a few entrees Top of the list items Palak Softw which is a must have for us . It's a the child of palak paneer married to paneer burjee! True to it's name it's loaded with spinach flavor blended with paneer ( indian cottage cheese ) delicately spiced making it a healthy yet flavorful. Chicken Makhani is the classic Butter Chicken and they do it right . Mirchi ka Salan is a classic Hyderabadi curry and it's quite good here. Jeera rice is a pretty basic dish but many places don't season it well . I love the rice here . It's a great combination with their classic dal . Biriyani is worth trying too. It's not the typical Dum style , but quite different spiked with right balance of spices . For dessert Gulab Jamun and Qubani ka meetha are delectable and must have to bring closure to a almost perfect meal. I have almost always dined in for an a la carte meal , so most of my review is based on that, i tried their buffet for dinner as it was an option on a Sunday. Buffet food looked pretty appetizing . But the flavors were nothing compared to the same a la carte preparation . Recently we ordered food for pick up and I must commend Akbar for excellent packing, and all dishes including the tandoor cooked chops , salmon & kababs were so tender and almost onsite quality. Kudos to the staff and management, for the consistent quality & service , which proves why they have been around for a while .

Akbar is definitely one of my favorite Indian restaurants in that area. I feel like you get the most delicious food for a very affordable price. I have been their several times and they haven't disappointed me and that's always a good thing because I will definitely keep coming back. I remember it so clearly but the first time I had their samosas, I gave it 10/10. They were freshly made, the presentation was on and it tasted so good. Their mango lassi is so delicious definitely 10 rating, it's thick, rich and something about it just makes you happy! You definitely know it's a great drink from the very first sip and you can have it with entree or dessert because it's so good. Now when it comes to the food, where do I start? Well you should definitely come there hungry because you will be leaving with a full stomach lol. From chicken biryani ask for it spicy if can handle it, and my personal favorite the chicken tandoori murgh. It comes out sizzling, smells so good, looks beautiful and tastes even better! So next date night, I would definitely recommend them and they also accept the restaurant.com gift certificates so it's really awesome!

I had been searching months to find a good place for my 50th birthday party and was so glad to have found Akbar. They did a great job of serving my party and were very helpful and nice! Food was great too of course! THANK YOU AKBAR!

The service was top notch and plenty of parking. The soda tasted a little funny and my partner said the same about her salmon. Aside from that everything was perfect, there wasn't ever a time where we were waiting for food or drinks. I will definitely come here again, but I'll skip the soda next time.

Perfect for my small reception

Delhi Garden - Goat Curry Masala

4-Star Review - Delhi Garden, NJ…read more Tried Delhi Garden recently on a friend's recommendation. It's a bit out of the way from the central Edison area, but worth a visit every now and then. I saw some solid reviews online and decided to check it out. Service was good . Atmosphere not that great . Overall, I was leaning toward a 3-star rating, but a few standout dishes pushed it to a 4. The aloo cutlet with chole was the star of the show--super authentic and flavorful. The paneer tikka and paneer masala also hit the mark taste-wise, though I wish they had packed a bit more spice. The paneer tandoor came in a generous portion, but again, it could've used more flavor. The biryani was just average. One common theme--everything was low on spice, and the small container of spicy sauce they give barely lasted a few bites. It's a takeout-only spot, so no dine-in tables, and the parking area is small but manageable. Price-wise, it felt fair for the portion sizes. Not perfect, but worth trying if you're in the mood for North Indian flavors and don't mind customizing the spice at home!

It tasted absolutely delicious. The vegetable samosas had a perfect crispiness to it and were delicious as well and the filling was perfectly seasoned. The sauce it comes with makes it even better! The service is very nice too. I requested an adjustment to the malai kofta before and they accommodated it without hesitation, which I truly appreciated. It turned out delicious as well. I'm always extremely satisfied with the food here. 10/10 every time! The restaurant does not have seating. It is takeout only. There's a table at the front for placing or picking up orders, and they have a decent amount of parking.

When entering from Grove Ave, it's easy to be a little bit confused because the restaurant is stuck in the corner behind what used to be Stop n Shop and such. The shopping center is certainly very empty without the anchor grocery store, so it's often quite easy to miss this. Knowing that the restaurant opens dinner service around 6, we got here just before then and realized that the staff was already accepting people beforehand. That was great. As my girl is from Goa, this was a place that was on her mind for some time to try. Likewise, I wanted to try some authentic Maharastrian food too. To start, we ordered a mango lassi & a Kaira Panha. I stuck with the former, which was great. My girl enjoyed her drink too, though def not my first preference. For an appetizer, we ordered the Kothimbir Wadi. This was quite tasty and well enjoyed with the chutney. Certainly authentic. For the main meal, my girl enjoyed her fish fry. I got the Veg. Kohlapuri along with Garlic Naan. The Kohlapuri was good and was easily able to finish it. The only small gripe we had was that the tomato-based curry kinda reminded me of a North Indian korma that you'd get from other establishments. My girl noted this and do wonder whether this is truly the proper way of making and enjoying a Vegetarian Kohlapuri. She noted it was meant to not have a tomato base and was supposed to be a bit more flavorful. As this was my first time, I'm not sure if I can fully validate this, but it's worth a question. Nonetheless, I can't complain about the food. Just simply a curiosity on my end.

We're allium-free vegetarians and had been meaning to try more Indian restaurants but the sheer…read moreamount of "pure veg" Indian restaurants within the same square mile was both awesome and daunting. We're still looking around for our go-to Indian restaurant in the area as our kids love saag/palak paneer and we used to go at least once a month where we moved from. But we finally made it! We came here on a Monday that also fell on a holiday so they had a steady amount of customers. We were the only non-Indian customers, which appears to be normal. They're located in a small strip along with 2 or 3 other businesses. Shared parking is behind the building so most people entered through the back door. It was about half full when we got there so I can see it filling up fast during crowded times. Walk through because no one is at the back but there is a small clothing rack to hang coats; the counter is at the front by the front door. We made ourselves known and were promptly seated. They serve vegetarian food and many are Swaminarayan-friendly (allium-free, which appears to be their default mode), certain can be made Jain as well! They do use alliums but overall, they seem to be able to make most of the dishes without alliums. We ordered the following, Swaminarayan-style and mild because one of my kids can do but mild food: DAHI PURI: I usually get pani puri but decided to try it out since it's been a while since I had this. It came out first as the appetizer, was a thing of beauty, and there are A LOT of flavors in there. The sweet-leaning yogurt, sev with its textural differences, the freshness of the cilantro, the spiced potatoes, the tart pomegranate seeds... My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. PALAK PANEER: This was ordered for my kids. Green gravy with tender paneer. They liked it! The curry got a little too spicy but it didn't hit them until later. My kid with the food allergies ate all the paneer when the gravy grew too spicy for him. MALAI KOFTA: This is different from the malai kofta I've had before but not in a bad way. I definitely think they use cashew "cream" in this. It's lightly sweet in a way that reminds me of cashews. The kofta are soft and I'm pretty sure are paneer based. This is probably the most mild curry we ordered, both in terms of spice and spices. This was my pick because I usually can't order malai kofta at Indian restaurants so I was pleased I could hear. MATAR METHI MALAI: I love how Indian curries are so straightforward when it comes to names. I'm not sure what to expect with this but my husband didn't know what to get so I nudged him towards this. He wanted MATAR PANEER but it's not on the menu. This is essentially fenugreek pea curry in a milky gravy. It has very interesting spices and flavor. A little more bland than the others, yet not at the same time. Must be that fenugreek! For some odd reason, it reminded me of coconut chutney I've had before. We also got ROTI for one of my kids who prefers bread over rice. All curries come with white basmati. For drinks, we got MANGO LASSI, SPRITE, and CHAAS (buttermilk). The buttermilk was different! Much more spiced than I expected. I also swear at one point I tasted a raw onion bit but it only happened once so who knows if it was mistaken blended in or it was all in my head. I do remember it was STRONG though. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised at the sheer amount of choices we had. Our bill totaled to around $90 (curries are around $20, Dahi puri was $12) and we brought home some leftovers. They seem to be family run and are fairly nice and helpful. We would likely go back again to try more things, but the palak paneer isn't completely up our kids' alley to become their favorite. If you have food allergies, let them know. My youngest has multiple food allergies including to nuts and wheat. Most of their curries contains nuts EXCEPT for the palak paneer and their bhindi (okra) dish. Luckily for my kid. Despite how nuts are a common ingredient in the kitchen, my kid was completely fine during and after eating. Note: their menu says they charge gratuity for parties of 4 people or more. My husband says he didn't see it on the bill when it was time to pay. Not sure if that statement is now outdated or it only counts if there are 4+ ADULTS.

The tomato onion based curry lacked salt and spice and the actual soya pieces were too soft and mushy in texture. Wish these were a bit more dense as experienced in other restaurants. Roomali Roti- drown in ghee and it must have sat over a gas flame because it tasted of bad chemicals. Basically like eating the ghee-soaked cotton swabs from the candles at the local temple.
