I had reservations about an all-veg restaurant but this place was a home run. Delicious! A little pricey but very happy with the meal.

My childhood bestie and his family were in town from the Bay Area so you know we had to meet up…read more They've been vegans for close to two decades and I vibe with just about anything so I love when we enjoy good food together. Except oysters. I don't vibe with oysters. But oyster MUSHROOMS?!?! Hey-yooooooo. Our party of 6 posted up at a table by the window and went hamm (get it vegan ham) on apps and entrees. The oyster mushroom chikn tendies were phenomenal. Legit tasted like kfc. I had the Barbie-Que sandwich that was drool worthy. Pasta and neat balls and mash n gravy were satisfying bites too. They have an extensive bar but as I was on my friend's dad's dime, I acted like I had home training and didn't run up the check. I had no idea an actual vegan restaurant - as opposed to a fast casual - was in our midst. I'll definitely get back!

I like vegetarian food quite a bit, but found the dishes here to be subpar. The dishes were overly…read moresalty, as if to compensate for the lack of taste. I order a few items and was disappointed by all of them unfortunately. * Raw-violi (pickled and brined beet slices, cashew macadamia nut cheese, pesto, and saffron cream, 1 star off): the beet slices were too salty; the cashew macadamia nut cheese did not taste like cheese, but more like ground up nuts; I did like their saffron cream sauce...not sure how it went with the beets and nuts, but it tasted good on its own * Mackin cheese (elbow pasta with sweet potato truffle cream cheese, 1 star off): I could taste the sweet potato, but there was no truffle flavor * Mash-n-gravy (crusted tempeh, truffle mashed potatoes, kale, carrots, and gravy, 1 star off): I have had good tempeh before, but the tempeh here was a salty, compacted soybean; again, there was no truffle flavor in the mashed potatoes; the entire dish was a goopy mess * Bananarama (banana cake, blueberry compote, and mango-vanilla sauce, 1 star off): the cake was dry and tasted like a day or two old; I did like the mango-vanilla sauce though It is sad that the condiments or sauces used for the dishes were the best part of the meal. Back to meat dishes I go...

Dosas got me spinnin' like dosey doe. Lol. I am ashamed to call myself a hardcore foodie; I can't…read morebelieve it took me this long to try dosas. Sure I have eaten at many Indian restaurants but you have to go to one that only specializes in dosas. Shoutout to my Yelper, Johanna B., she said it is one of her most favorite things to eat. I did a search on Yelp and it lead me to Brundhavan, formally known as Indian House of Dosas. Looking at the menu, I have to admit that I was completely clueless. I had to look up quite a few of the descriptions for the different fillings. We opted to get the Masala with potatoes, onions, and carrots. The presentation had me so intrigued. Dosas are made of rice. Just eat with your hands and dip away. My favorite was the coconut one. It was so delicious. With every bite I kept saying, OMG, I LOVEEEE IT!!! YUM!!! We also ordered the Medu Vada, a savory South Indian fried doughnut made with black lentils served with chutney and sambhar. Crispy exterior and soft inside. Probably the healthiest doughnut I have ever eaten. Get it!! Please order their Masala or Irani Chai. I wanted 3 cups of it. Lol. Service was a 10/10. Super friendly and helpful. I appreciate them explaining all the different sauces and how to eat it. My son's favorite cuisine is Indian, I can't wait to bring him here. Note: their new location is a couple of shops down the strip from their old one. The new space is clean and modern.

Despite being named after a famed religious town in U.P. that serves as a refuge for widows,…read moreBrundhavan is actually a South Indian restaurant, with quite a few Karnataka items that are otherwise hard to find in the NY/NJ area. I'll start with the good: the benne dosai (which has gone viral across Bombay and now Delhi) is well done, with a nice thick, fluffy texture. I also enjoyed the filter coffee and badam milk, which I love hot but almost always find offered only cold. The Indo-Chinese items such as the paneer manchurian (dry) were also not bad. That being said, I was very disappointed with the thatte idli, which ironically was what I was most excited to order. They offer with a variety of different podi toppings, but the one we ordered had a strange aftertaste. I'm not sure if it was from the ghee or the podi, but we didn't finish the order. The chutneys and sambar are also really nothing special.
