Andaaz, which means style in Hindi, certainly offers style and flair in its elegant ambiance and extravagant presentation of pan-Indian cuisine. Executive chef Ashish Tiwari demonstrates his culinary creativity with sumptuous ghee-roasted lamb chops which are a must-order from the appetizers. Another standout was the eclectic vegetarian platter featuring delicious pesto paneer tikka and crispy Thai lotus root chips that taste like savory jalebis. The main course that we ordered was not as appealing as the appetizers. The Jaipuri malai kofta tomato curry was poured tableside by the attentive staff and went well with the freshly baked garlic naan but the kofta itself was not memorable. The serrano and lemongrass mocktail tasted like a spicy margarita and was well crafted. The textures of gulab had a stunning presentation but only the small scoop of gulab jamun ice cream was a standout as the rest of the components were mostly for show. Four of us had dinner at the restaurant recently. Style over substance -- and an expensive lesson. The menu also dresses up common dishes with fancy names to justify fancy prices. The food came out cold, including the naans, which should never happen. We returned all the dishes and the naans to be warmed up! Every main dish was mostly gravy! Very little main item! As an example , the goat curry looked generous but had just 4 small, bony pieces for $32 -- that's $8 a piece with barely any meat to eat on them. About 80% oily gravy and only 20% goat meat I would guess! Our "spinach jalapeno paneer curry" was mostly palak with some jalapeño mashed in and very few pieces of paneer! Then there's the $44 vegetarian appetizer platter - an exorbitant price for just 8 pieces total, no chutney included. Beautiful plating, but the portions and the value just aren't there. When I travel to NY/NJ, I hope for a better tasting Indian food because of larger Indian population and popular destinations. We tried several dishes - peanut masala (was average); tempura cauliflower type veg appetizer (was not good at all - no taste), paneer app (was okay, nothing wow about it), chicken 65 was average too, noorjahan chicken app was good. But a side of chutney would have helped. My colleagues loved the smoked corn soup, but found eating corn cob quite weird. We had some variety of biryani too - veg biryani was good. Chicken biryani was just okay. While mutton biryani was good too. Service was good overall. I could see cocktails had pretty good presentation. Kulfi was liked by most of the colleagues. My parents took me here for my birthday and it was one of the best fine dining experiences I've ever had. From the glamorous ambiance to the extremely hospitable service to the delicious mouthwatering food. The food recieved 10/10 - I'd gladly come here again to celebrate a special night. However it was the service that stole the show! The recommendations from our server, Venkatesh, was on the dot. He even asked the chef to do a special accommodation because the iddiapam on the menu was sold out and we really wanted to try it. We did not make a reservation since we did not know if we were not sure of our timings but they accommodated us on a Monday afternoon. The staff was very good. We ordered mocktails to start with - Andaaz apna apna which was good to beat the summer and Serrano and Lemongrass punch which was delicious. We went with the appetizer we ordered andaaz katori chaat that was good and a platter. The platter had chole chawal bites - okish, pesto paneer - great, lotus root chips - yum, spinach and cheese cigar - great, mushroom and barley kebab - yum! For the mains, we ordered jaipuri malai makhana which was delicious. The gravy was super creamy. We paired it with butter naan. For dessert, we went with mango saffron kulfi baklava and it was delicious. They bought us a complimentary chocolate cake as it was my birthday and that was great too. We had a wonderful time celebrating our anniversary here with family. Stepping into this type of spot, your expectations should be set for nyc fancy but with central jersey convenience aka there is a dress code, no children, prices are elevate and portions are small. BUTTT what they deliver is a wonderful ambiance with thoughtful rich interior, attentive service and quality food/presentations with fresh ingredients. Several items on their menu were really good like the pesto paneer and lotus root appetizer and the Multani Paneer Curry and Veg Biriyani. All the desserts and their presentation was lovely (several items served on dry ice). Finger bowls, a complimentary starter, a visit from the chef all also included in this dining experience. The location has plentiful parking and is also BYOB as well. Their Non alcohol drinks cocktails were also well curated - thoughtfully crafted than the routine mango/tamarind combinations standard at most indian restaurants. Beautiful ambiance with service to match. From the moment you enter you realize that this place is gorgeous. Remember it's a BYOB and you may want to have a drink inside this beautiful place. Chole appetizer reminded me of a playful fusion dish of an Indian Arancini. Lamb chops were executed differently than you'd expect and were stewed rather than grilled as an appetizer. Chicken kebabs were absolutely delicious and meant to be eaten wrapped in the accompanying naan style bread that had a chutney seared onto the bread. Jackfruit roll was beautiful and playfully presented. This dish was sweeter than I expected. This is a high end Indian restaurant we're each dish is beautifully presented with attentive service. This is a new upscale fine dining restaurant that has opened in Kendall park. It is definitely a nice addition I really love the ambience as soon as you enter. As you enter the restaurant, there is a reception area to check you in and there is recessed lighting throughout the restaurant. For the Instagrammers, they have an entire greenery wall that can be used for photos. They have a good menu with lots of variety as well as appetizer tasting plates, which is good for you to sample the many options that they have available. The appetizer sampler had lots of selection and I found it very flavorful. I also love the bread basket and all the variety that they have in it. The chocolate decadence desert was very creative and I love the presentation with the mini tree and pink cotton candy as well as chocolate fence. It was very delicious. Main courses were a hit or miss. Malai kofta lacked gravy and kofta were extremely dry and hard. We ended up not eating that one at all. There was another entree with paneer and veggies which was lackluster also. Portion sizes are extremely disappointing--they need to realize this isn't a Michelin-starred restaurant where tiny dishes are meant to be an experience. The drinks are barely 100 ml and definitely not made with premium liquor. Overall, worth experiencing for one time. Aarzu and Samudhra are way better for food quality! read more

I understand restaurants have policies, but the complete lack of compassion or discretion in handling an unforeseen situation was disappointing. I came here for my birthday and was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! I was expecting it to be a regular Indian restaurant but I was proven wrong. This restaurant is so so aesthetically pleasing. Everything from the interior to the food is gorgeous! Each dish is so well crafted still holds the essence of Indian cooking. We got the vegetarian appetizer platter, the malai kofta, and bullet and garlic naan. The vegetarian appetizer was a lot bigger than we anticipated but we still ate everything! The presentation of the platter was also awesome. The malai kofta was really good as well but I think the naan stole the show. The bullet naan was genuinely spicy but went perfectly with the creamy malai kofta. We also got two drinks, both nonalcoholic. One was a seasonal drink and the other was the Serrano lemongrass punch. Honestly-I went in thinking this was going to be a typical Indian restaurant trying to pawn off standard Indian dishes in a half baked attempt at being 5-star high end restaurant. Stay away from this shady business with ridiculous policies and poor management. I shared my review on Google and social media and was cyber bullied by associates of the owners of this restaurant. When my family and I went to dine here, we were only offered bottled water which they charged us a ridiculous amount. They didn't even offer tap water. I have dined at numerous fine dining establishments and tap water was always offered. Also, check your receipts as the cost listed on the menu maybe different to what they charge you. My friends and I were looking forward to a "fine dining" experience that this "stylish affair" restaurant claims to offer - However the entire experience was quite a letdown. 1. We made a reservation for 8:00 pm and were made to wait for 45 mins in a sparsely furnished waiting area/entrance on some very uncomfortable stools. This is after they take a reservation fee of 100$ - and my question is what if we had walked in that late - i'm sure we would have been denied a table ! 2. The reason for the delay was that some guests who had "walked in" at 6:30 and were still at the table and were not vacating - so after having a strict reservation policy that is clearly advertised on their website why were walk in's accommodated ? 3. As a "compensation" we were offered free cocktails - however the server had no idea when we had a few questions about some ingredients! She didn't even offer to find out - we had to ask her to go to the kitchen and inquire !! 4. The Hostess walked up to us when we were seated and "apologized" for the delay as if she was doing us a favor - no eye contact-no smile just a cursory by the way - we apologize ! It would have been better if she didn't say anything ! 5. No one inquired if any of us on the table had allergies. 6. The server who got our non veg platter seemed visibly irritated when we asked him to repeat the names of the appetizers on the platter - we needed to make sure since one of us didn't eat mutton. 7. No one refilled the water or even checked on us - and we had to look out and call a server to take our main course order. 8. The server who got our main course had no idea about the dishes he was serving and gave the wrong descriptions while putting them down at our table . 9. The Indian appetizers were good however we ordered Chinese for the main course which was nothing great. -The only saving grace the entire evening was the Manager Sid - who was trying to appease us and did profusely apologize, while accepting our feedback. The Chef also visited our table to apologize . So - would I give the place a second chance ?? Given that the entire experience was quite a disaster and the food was average -barring the presentation - which was good ... probably not ! Style over substance. This is not a good dining experience. Let's at least start with what was good: the service and the ambiance. Staff were friendly and helpful, but there was a 10 minute delay in our seating. (we had made a reservation for 8pm) Now for what I don't like about the restaurant: the food, the cost, and the pretentiousness of style over substance. Food: This was decent food that was not at all worth the cost (If you are familiar with Indian restaurants in NJ, this wasn't even as good as Mithaas). There is a certain finesse missing from the food, which comes down to the ratio of ingredients. Price: after considering the above category, the price was a huge slap in the face. We spent roughly $206 (before tax or tip) for 3 people. We ordered 3 appetizers, 3 entres, a bread basket, a desert, and a mocktail. At a restaurant like Mithaas, this would have costed us roughly $100-120. At a comparable "indian fine dining" restaurant like Chef's Table or Samudra, this would have costed us $165 or $210 respectively. My point is, for the price point, there are SIGNIFICANTLY better options within an hour's drive from here. This is relevant because it is a fine dining restaurant, so people will be willing to travel a bit farther for the increase in quality. Pretentiousness: style over substance. I want to preface this by saying that in no way were the staff or anyone else rude to us or snobbish. When I say "pretentiousness", I am referring to the overall concept of the restaurant. For those who don't know, in hindi, 'andaaz' means "style". And this restaurant beats you over the head with it. It reminds you at every corner that this is a stylish place. Right from the main entrance, there is large decoration on the wall stating how important "style" is to the restaurant. You see exquisite presentational appeal of the dishes. Lavishly decorated art on the walls. Fancy looking menus with even fancier descriptions of the food. An enforced dress code. People everywhere taking selfies of their experience at the restaurant. And you can't help but feel like the entire experience is performative. Why? Because you are hungry, and you were craving really good North Indian curries, and you likely drove a good 30 minutes to arrive at a "fine dining" restaurant. Because there are more people chatting and taking pictures than there are actually eating. You must smile and proclaim your enjoyment, to mask your disappointment after tasting the meal. You want decent, affordable North Indian food in central Jersey? Try Mithaas. You want a North Indian "fine dining" experience? We knew the food prices were very upscale, but expected the food to be worth it We ordered Chicken Seekh Kabab as an entre, but I was surprised to see one sheekh Kabab cut into four pieces along with a few pieces of Turkish bread, which was dry and chewy and almost inedible. I called them for a reservation, They said they were busy and could not take a reservation on the phone, Need to book online. I went online and they want a $150 security deposit to book. The guy at the front said, let me check. and he comes in a few min, yes we have available. wait for a few Min. and then he asked me where the others, I said they were coming in a few min, Now this guy said to me in front of my guests, make sure no one comes in slippers, this is fine dining and we have strict dress code. My guests standing with me ( American) were a little upset, but I told him we were coming from office directly, so everyone wore shoes. Anyway, we went and guess what, only 4 people were eating, the entire restaurant was empty. The decor is good inside, I ordered two appetizers, but the waiter tried to oversell by increasing my order by saying exactly,"We have small quantity in each plate and each order is per person, it will not be enough for you". And I know they serve good quantity, as this is not my first time. So I said its ok. Please bring what I ordered. Appetizers came and believe me they were in good quantity and were good too, My guests liked them. Naan was good. Daal was too much creamy and Oily. We tried to enjoy a special lunch at Andaz in Franklin Park, NJ, but what should've been a nice afternoon turned into an exercise in bizarre customer treatment. Despite being dressed nicely, I was turned away because of my Birkenstock sandals. Here's the kicker: this "shoes-only" rule applies only to men. Women can wear whatever they like. Here's a tip for restaurants with absurd dress codes: If you're going to enforce random policies, make sure your food is so extraordinary that patrons will consider swapping footwear mid-meal to experience it. Or better yet, call ahead to warn us, so we can don our finest loafers. Maybe even offer a spare pair of shoes at the door for those who didn't get the memo. And why pick a location surrounded by five dozen other Indian restaurants? If Andaz's goal is to alienate customers, they're succeeding. But when your biggest claim to fame is enforcing silly footwear rules, don't expect people to stick around. Let me start with service which was NON EXISTENT. The front desk lady perhaps thought she was hosting at Nobu or something with her snarky attitude. People at Nobu are much better trained in hospitality so....We had a reservation and reached Sharp on time, yet ended up waiting to be seated for 30 minutes! Unbelievable. There was random walking who was also seated after 40 mins. If the place does not honor reservations then they should stop marking it. People were normally dressed unlike there one-page long dress code enforcement policy (eye roll). Not only was the front desk rude and unwelcoming, once seated our order was taken 15 mins after. Food was below average for the price.. BELOW AVERAGE.. you can get better quality food for half the price in nearby restaurants. We ordered chilli chicken and gagged. We had to send it back and messaged the chef via the server. Not only did the Chef not come and speak to us about it, they charged us for it. Seeing how mismanaged the place was run, we decided not to contest the charge so we didn't get pulled into any drama over 30 bucks. Net net, if there was an apocalypse and we ran out of food and this was the only place to eat, MAY BE I would eat there.. under normal circumstances, just sheer mismanagement over priced food is not worth a return visit. We paid $330 for 6 people - 4 adults and 2 kids.. do not go to this place. Spend your $$ elsewhere.
