Just had one of the *worst* customer service experiences in a long time. I had two items to return -- totaling $48 -- with my receipt. The items were purchased from an Ace store in a different state, just 20 days ago. I was informed that this store is an "independent" store and that they would not be accepting my return because "it's their policy." Top it off the "assistant manager" (guy with a beard) had quite an attitude -- no customer service skills of any kind, rude, curt. I'll not get into it, but suffice to say this guy shouldn't be dealing with the public. He made me feel like a criminal for trying to return something bought in another store. Like I was trying to get away with something. It was surreal. This is contrary to every experience I've ever had at an Ace Hardware store. And any national chain frankly: You bought something in a different store, any store should take it back with a receipt and a smile. This incident reflects poorly on the entire Ace brand. They told me I could call the store where I bought it and mail it to them for a return. Yeah, not helpful. "Ace is the place with the unhelpful hardware man..." The irony here is I go out of my way to buy local and to support my local businesses. Ace Hardware of Veneta has just made the perfect argument NOT to. Had I purchased the two items from Amazon, I'd have returned them with ZERO HASSLE. Well, Ace Hardware of Veneta you got your wish: You will never have to worry about me returning anything to your store EVER. Because I will not be buying anything from you. Or ANY Ace Hardware store ever again. You just walked 35 years of customer loyalty by showing me your POLICY is more important than my BUSINESS. Congratulations on holding onto $48! I just bought a property in rural Lane County and the we're gutting the house and barn, rebuilding a fence... MAJOR renovation. Over the next several months, I will need paint, tools, hardware, plumbing, HVAC, electrical... tens of thousands of dollars worth (only tens if I'm lucky). I'm doing much of the work myself. Rest assured Ace Hardware of Veneta: I will not be returning anything to your store. Every single thing I need can and will be purchased on Amazon. Every. Single. Thing. I had a question the last time I was in here, and the manager (I think her name was Linda, but I wouldn't swear to it. I just remember her name tag said she was the manager) was very helpful. I saw her walking from the back stock area into the store and I asked her where something was. She started to tell me which isle it was on and what section, and then took me over to it. She told me about several options, and said if I needed anything else to come and find her. She was friendly and helpful. The store itself is huge. It's also clean and very well organized. I was impressed by that alone. It is well-lit inside, every isle labelled so finding something is pretty easy. I like that because it's quicker for me to find things, and that makes my time use more efficient. Would I return? Absolutely. The blades are really worn down and the bushings on the front wheels retaining bolts are cracked broken with pieces missing. Now with it stalling after running for a few seconds, it looks like it was gearing up to be in the shop a lot. So today I had this grand plan of making stops at three different locations to compare models and pricing of mowers. As luck would have it, our first stop was our only stop. Tractor Supply in JC was it. As I was looking over the mowers and popping open the filters and lids, an employee came over on his forklift. He could see I was seriously shopping. He was real knowledgeable about the mowers and the differences between them. Turns out he is the one who puts them together when they get delivered to the store. He also told us if there were any issues, bring the mower back so the can affect any repairs and make it right. What can I say? The price was average for this type of a Zero Turn mower. It was also very sturdy with upgrades that make the work easier to get done. We've had nothing but great service from this location, so I decided not to waste the rest of the day looking and ultimately coming back here, so we bought the thing and they held it while I drove home to get the trailer. When I got back, there it was waiting and ready for me to load it up and haul it home. We really appreciate how the staff all take their work here to the next level. They all work as if the store was owned by them personally and they want to take care of their customers.
