I should have written several 5* reviews for the W7th location as they have always had what I was looking for and were always professional and helpful. Current project is testing out a power supply to see if the power supply is bad versus the motherboard. I went in and was instantly greeted and asked how I might be helped. I asked for Electric testers and was walked to where they are. Whenever I have a project or am about to add new parts to my 68 Dodge Charger R/T, I look to make sure. I have all the requisite tools and if I am missing something, I will swing by Harbor Freight. I am thankful they are close, are professional and helpful with suggestions. This isn't a store I go to often, as it is out of the way for me, and a fair distance to drive. I've known more than a few people who just love this store. Sadly, I am not one of those. It's decent, but compared to the new one they opened in Springfield, this store is just terrible. Let's start with this fact it's a fairly small store and it seems cramped. Like, there's no room to walk if there is already someone down the isle you want to go to. This makes shopping a bit harder, if not close to impossible when they are busy. The customer service is lacking. Makes me feel like Walmart has more intelligent employees at times. This would also be when you can find one walking around to help you. Otherwise, you're just kind of left in no man's land to find whatever on your own. I've never had to return anything, so I have no opinion about that. The cashiers are OK, and really just OK. They kind of border on, get your shit and get out, while doing it with a smile. I've never been a huge fan of the store, it would get three stars at best. After going to the new Springfield store and comparing the two, it's barely a two star experience. The simple fact I can't give any specific example of them being terrible, is why it gets two stars. It's simply not an impressive place to go. I'll stick to the Springfield store where I am always greeted, asked if I need anything and shown where the item I need is. I'm from out of state and stopped by the Eugene 7th Ave location to grab a few things while I was in town. My experience was very positive. Amanda went out of her way to help me buy a generator at the best price possible. I appreciate the time she spent with me and found the store to be well stocked and orderly. I have been a shopper at Harbor Freight Tools in Eugene for nearly 20 yrs and have always since day one been a fan. I lived in Springfield when a store was opened there and was very excited until I shopped there and decided very quickly that I liked the environment at the Eugene store much much more and was willing to drive the distance to give them my business. The environment of any establishment means a lot to me and will make or break my return. If I could give 100 stars I would gladly do so. Thankfully this is not a place I need to go to very often. I would much rather go to Jerry's, or dare I say Home Depot for most of the things you can find here. I come here out of convenience, and they do have a good selection in gloves if you need them for your RV, work, gardening, plumbing, or anything you can think of. I use some of them for the kitchen when I buy meat in bulk, and I don't want to touch raw meat. Earlier when I came in it was busy, as it usually is when I come in...with hardly any lanes open I thought to myself why are there not enough employees to open up another lane. I was standing in line with so many other thoughts rambling in my head...I was also nauseous from the smells around me. I'm not sure if it was the patrons, or the rubber from brand new tires, and such. It smelled like B/O mixed with rubber from tires. What ever it was I wanted to run, run fast! As all of this went through my head thank goodness another employee...he must have seen a look on my face. What ever it was, he was the kindest person because he certainly made me forget I even had the nausea, and he had me up, and out of there really fast. Really friendly, quite possibly manager. But I could be wrong. Who ever it was, I was glad he turned what was souring my opinion right back to winning! It is still not 4, or 5 stars. The place to go for "use once; throw away" tools. I wouldn't trust their measurement tools (I took back a dowel center-finder that had been manufactured off-center), but if you need something basic like a hammer, screwdriver, clamp, welding rods, or a set of drill bits that won't break the bank, this is where to get them. And there are some really good deals to be had here, if you keep your eyes open. I got a 12-pack of button cells -- the kind that most places are selling for $4.99 apiece -- 12 for $5.99. Yeah, they didn't last as long as higher-priced name brand cells, but with 12 of them, they lasted long enough that I probably saved at least $40 on the batch. Also one of the few places in town where you can almost always find a wheel to fit any wheelbarrow or hand cart -- something I couldn't find anywhere else in town. People complain about the service, but what the hell, for prices like these they need to keep low overhead, and people who come in are mostly smart enough to serve themselves. They offer some pretty unbeatable prices, you can find their ads in the Register-Guard or pick one up at the store. I was in need of a cheap pump to empty my fuel tank and they had one that was normally 12 bucks for 3.00. Can't really beat that. The staff was friendly and helpful. I don't know what all these other professional "business reviewers" are whining about. If you actually buy tools and use them, Harbor Freight in Eugene is great. I've been coming here for many many years and never felt like it was cramped or that I wasn't babysat enough. Literally the nicest people have always worked here and their customer service is great. Usually the lines are a long wait when a Eugenian customer is slow to pay or draws out a transaction longer than need be. If the staff could get people out quicker I'm sure they would. I recently bought a 3 Ton Pittsburgh floor jack that was missing the zerk and felt a little sketchy after lifting my truck. I returned it within a week with 0 hassle and bought the Daytona. Holy crap it feels like the Lamborghini of floor jacks. Anyway. It's a great place for discount tools. You can't beat the ratchets and floor jacks/stands. The Earthquaker stuff is phenomenal. All these people giving anything under 5 stars are literally just looking for things to whine about and probably buy hammers and nail kits. There were two lines open and I stood in one line for a good 5 and it wasn't moving because they were really taking their time helping another customer. None of the employees said anything to me to go in the other line. I finally got got in the other line, and then THREE other customers proceeded to get in the line that wasn't moving and I had to tell them that it probably isn't a good idea to stand in that line. To be fair, an employee asked me if I needed assistance as soon as I walked in which was helpful. However, the customer service at the check out line was absolutely absurd, even once i got to the counter. It takes 2 seconds to tell someone to move lines. It also takes 2 seconds to shut your lane down while you help a customer. read more

I was very disappointed by one person who is an employee there Amanda. You should not work in customer service. If you are going to be working in that field . Being polite, courtesy is key. I came in with my dad to return a jump starter for his tow truck. It wouldn't charge so we wanted to take it back and get a new one. The guy came out and my dad was explaining what was wrong and what he needed and so on and the guy asked how much my dad had to drink which was extremely uncalled for considering my dad hasn't even touched alcohol in 11 years. Returned a doweling jig with no problem. Jig was manufactured incorrectly and will not work but they did not care to have me show the problem. Too bad, the replacement purchased at Rockler Tools cost more. I still found two items I wanted today and always save the 20% off discount coupons ready since I must drive an hour to get here. Since I'm only a woodworking hobbyist, most of the items at HFT will work since I use them only a few times each year compared to a professional.
