Customer service sucks. I wound up having to make a temporary pawn, which is extremely rare that I do, I brought in a high end electronic item to pawn ($500 retail) , at first they passed manly because that they didn't have a clue what they were looking at, I asked them that you might want to research it , he did and then came back with a offer of $75, $75 for a $500 item? Seriously? I didn't expect to get full price. It's a pawnshop, but I did expect a fair offer. I was only asking $250, that still leaves them room for a profit . I would of even entertained a $200 offer. But $75? I didn't bother telling them that I've spent over a thousand dollars in there over time. Nothing will cause you to lose business faster then trying to screw over their customer's . I will NEVER set foot in another Ace buyers again. Well where do I start? They may know some things but they know diddly squat about music instruments. They offer you even less than the typical 1/6 of used depreciated value. When presented with a genuine piece of vintage gear worth a lot of money, they'll take a look at a couple of scratches on it and say no it's a scratched up. Even after you remind them that this is a 50 to 75-year-old item and you would be hard-pressed to find one without scratches and present them with the literature about the actual nature of the gear and it's desirability, you're met with even more attitude then you're met with at the door. The guy that does all of the instrument assessments is just a undeniably rude, has a angry and put off demeanor, and leaves you feeling like as if your not supposed to even be there. How they get anybody to come in there is beyond me. I lost a $800 guitar in pawn for $120 pawn. Granted that guitar was worth $800 new, and I did have a blemish that was introduced to it much to my horror. That being said they now have that said guitar on the shelf for $1,100 and have so for a year now. Where they got the idea that it was ever worth $1,100 is beyond me but it is no surprise that it hasn't sold yet I can tell you that. You go through and they have just absurd prices on some things like the example I just gave where they're wanting more for it than it was worth brand new and you can still to this day go down to Guitar Center and buy one still in the dang box with a warranty and everything for 3/4 of what they're trying to sell a used one for there. On the other end at least their lack of knowledge makes for the occasional good deal on some of the gear because they mislabel and under assess a certain pieces of gear that are far more valuable than what they believe them to be. My wife and I just today took a half ounce 999.9 HH Gold coin in and asked to sell it and we were offered $9.00. My wife told him it is gold and the guy said no it's not, it's silver. The guy starts to tell my wife; "I've been doing this for over 25 years and it's silver". My wife told him its stamped 999.9 HH and the guy says, "I've never heard of that; Well it's a Gold and Platinum company". So much for saying you've done this for over 25 years. My wife told him he's crazy and it's worth over $700.00 in melt. The guy states, "well I can test it but it will leave a stain on the front of the coin". My wife took the coin from him and left. This Pawn Broker actually shaved gold off my grandmother's 100 yr old wedding ring with a nail file, to "Test it for gold". A family heirloom destroyed for the sake of accumulating gold shavings for their greedy ambitions! When questioned about it, the clerk said "yes, I filed in two places on your ring" but when her manager appeared she stated she only filed in one. There are striations where she filed on the outside near the stones AND there is a gash on the inside bottom (where she admitted to filing). We SAW her file in two places and I have pictures of the damage as well as video of her saying she filed in two places and then denying it. I'm a big movie buff and am always looking to add old favorites to my DVD collection. I was walking home from the CD Game Exchange store about a block away from Ace Buyers, and noticed that Ace had some DVDs on a shelf so I decided to walk in. Normally I wouldn't enter a pawn shop since they tend to have a seedy reputation, but this one was friendly and I'm glad I came in. Ace Buyers has old video games, game consoles, musical instruments such as guitars, jewelry, and more, but this review is primarily for their used movie selection since that's what I went in here for. The reason I am giving Ace 4 instead of 5 stars is because their movie selection isn't as big as CD Game Exchange's. For instance, the other store has wall-to-wall shelving of DVDs, whereas Ace only has a small section in the middle of their store. However, do not let that discourage you from popping in here. I have an on-going list of DVDs I'm searching for, and Ace had 3 DVDs on my list that I couldn't find at CD Game Exchange! Their pricing is just as good, if not better as well (for instance, at CD Game Exchange, you can get 5 "$2.50" DVDs for $10, but here at Ace, you can buy a single DVD for $2. So if you don't find 5 DVDs that you want, it ends up costing you just as much per DVD but you don't have to buy as many.) I was fairly impressed with their selection as well: they had popular titles such as Harry Potter, Fast and Furious, and Twilight, and even had some newer releases like Bad Moms. I found a copy of Star Wars Episode III for $2, which beats the price I could get it at CD Game Exchange for! I walk past Ace a lot, and definitely will be coming in here more frequently to see if they have any DVDs to help fill in the holes in my collection. read more
